I noticed we have a Favorite Games of 2009 Thread. Being a Super Bitch, this was not adequate for me. We must have a Worst Games Thread. Since I play almost all RPGs, my list will be pretty limited. I need CAG's help in posting their shitty experiences of games released in 2009. Also, please post your most disappointing game released this year as well, even if it wasn't that crappy.

Worst Games of 2009:

Winner:
Black Sigil (DS)
This RPG is so bad, it even surpasses Lunar DS as the worst RPG on the DS. I am not kidding. I even finished Lunar DS as a bet with Paco, and it actually gets somewhat more tolerable as it goes along.
Paco's part of the bet was merely to finish one story in Unlimited SaGa, and he never did. The bet was years ago too. What a pussy. SHAME ON HIM
Black Sigil was pretty much unbearable for me to play. The characters, battle system, level design, and encounter rate (worse than even the worst 8-bit games) are all atrocious. The only nugget of goodness that could have possibly saved it was the somewhat intriguing story, but it would have been like trying to find a piece of chocolate in a giant pile of shit to play it just for that. To top it all off the game has a ton of glitches and bugs. After losing over an hour's worth of progress due to a lack of save points and a glitch that froze the game for no reason at all, I stopped playing and traded it in. What a piece of shit. I don't care if it was done by a fledgling developer, there was really no excuse for the game's poor quality after years and years of development. It should have never been released. It still plays like a beta RPG Maker game. I have played much better freeware fanmade RPGs that had no such bugs or issues (Charles Barkley Shut Up and Jam Gaiden anyone?). Worst game of 2009 for me and worst RPG on the DS by far.

Runner-Up:
Nostalgia (DS)
This takes the cake as the 3rd worst RPG on DS, below Black Sigil and Lunar DS. I can't believe this game has been in the planning stages since the Sega Saturn era (according to the developers) and yet they came up with the biggest cliche ridden rip-off in RPG history. Even Legend of Dragoon was less shameless than this. Think of the game as a destitute man's Skies of Arcadia mixed with every lame RPG cliche in history and you have this game. The plot is a joke. I was predicting major plot points well before they happened. Everything else in the game is cliche as shit too. I had reasonably high expectations for this game, thinking they couldn't possibly fuck up a Skies rip off too badly, but they did. They really did. Shameful. The saddest thing is that I bought this game at launch, yet waited until good games that came out around the same time- Half-Minute Hero and Wizard of Oz- were Amazon DOTDs before buying them.

Honorable Mention:
Resident Evil 5
Total shit if you aren't playing on co-op. I didn't want to play online and I didn't want to pay $45 for a second controller for my fiance to play, so I decided to play it like I have every other fucking RE game (except for UC)- alone. The co-op play really disguises how much of a turd this game really is. It has the basic core gameplay of 4, but they took out every aspect of RE4 that made the game interesting and fun and replaced it with something nonsensical. The story and dialogue is a new series low; it's not campy and amusing, it's just a ripoff of B action movie schlock, much like Chris's new look. I guess this is what happens when a series' creator leaves. Mikami must have cried when he played this game.

Most Disappointing Games of 2009:
Winner:
Muramasa (Wii)
This game was hyped up so much, and yet it wasn't even as good as its sort-of predecessor, Odin Sphere. The problem is the game is way too repetitive and easy. Even the harder difficulty was way too easy for me (except for a select few bosses) and I admittedly suck ass at action games. The game was entertaining for the first couple hours, but then you just do the same thing over and over again the whole game. Due to the lack of difficulty, there is no need to ever mix things up or change your strategy of button-mashing except maybe on some bosses, of which there are few. The dialogue translation is an absolute joke and Ignition should be ashamed of themselves for being so lazy (and Nostalgia's translation was just as bad).

Runner-Up:
SMT: Devil Survivor (DS)
This game had so much potential, but several careless design choices ruined the fun. A huge percentage of the game's missions require you to escort and save completely helpless people. The main characters are devoid of any real personality and you can't sympathize with them at all. These and other issues combine to make this game a real disappointment. I hope Strange Journey is better.

Honorable Mention:
Suikoden Tierkreis (DS)
Okay, I think most people knew this game was gonna suck, but I was holding out a sliver of hope. Bad idea. One of the things that immediately pops out at you is how the main character's voice acting is obviously sped up to save memory space on the cart. The voices are horrible enough as it is, and so I played the game muted. The game is way, way too easy, and yet there is no way to eliminate encounters on the many, many times you will be backtracking through dungeons. There is no way to return to the beginning of a dungeon either. Just having an item or spell that lowered random encounters or returned you to the beginning of a dungeon would have made the game a lot more tolerable. The main characters are hard to relate to because they are devoid of personality (like Devil Survivor), and the story isn't that great either. Can we please get a real Suikoden VI that's actually made like someone still gives a shit about the series?

Ok people, now I need your opinions. You don't have to do any long writeups like I did, just post some shitty games that you played that came out in 2009.

Halo 3 ODST was definitely my most disappointing game of the year. All of the Halo releases (IMO) have been true classics, but ODST was obviously a rushed cash grab.

All the hype built-up with great marketing was completely washed away when I found that the innovations made were things such as damage from falling and taking away dual-wielding. It did nothing to advance the Halo gameplay, and only took away. It even failed to introduce any new weapons besides a silenced version of the SMG, which is more or less useless in the Halo universe.

Total, complete letdown.

I actually enjoyed Muramasa, and this is coming from someone who has played Odin Sphere and Princess Crown. I actually think it is a lot better game than Odin Sphere fundamentally speaking (they are beat'em ups with an RPG twist, depth is not a word to describe any three of them lol). But the translation, I completely agree, it is pure shit. I still don't get the story and this is after playing it a couple times through. Ignition's localization efforts are worse than 16 bit RPGs I can name off hand.

For example, Nostalgia is actually a pretty decent RPG considering it is a parody of sorts of old-school RPGs, but the localization is fucked. Problem is, it is the localization that can make or break an RPG. And to think they are localizing Arc Rise Fantasia...

I digress though, my most disappointing games of 09':

Resident Evil 5 = I think it is the worst entry in the series, it is even possible the third installment (Nemesis) is better. Darkside Chronicles is a better game in every right and it is a rail shooter (which is fine by me, it was damn right fun). In fact, I personally think they may be better off moving towards that direction anyway if they keep this crap up. :/

Kingdom Hearts DS = Its bland, there is really nothing else to be said. The GBA installment had more personality than this game, and it is peusado-remake of sorts. Hopefully KH: Birth by Sleep is a much better game, which I'm sure it will be.

The Conduit = I love the Wii to death, it is my favorite console this generation, but this shooter was complete hype. It is a technical marvel, but the story and level design is complete and utter trash. I would almost say it is worse than Perfect Dark Zero. There is a reason why I own a PS3, and with the exception of Metroid Prime Trilogy (which is technically not even a FPS), I'm starting to lose faith the Wii will ever have its own defining FPS. Which is a shame, motion controls are defintely superior to conventional controller (Which The Conduit, to its credit, nailed right on the money. Its controls are flawless and completely customizable).

I'm not sure if a better localization would have helped Nostalgia too much, though it probably would have made the game a lot more tolerable. Other than the translation, there are other major issues with the game. The backtracking through dungeons for quests and even in the main storyline is absurd. Is it really necessary to go through the very first podunk sewer dungeon 3+ times throughout the game? And yes, at least 3 of those trips are REQUIRED. The game balance is also pretty ridiculous with the ship battles. The regular battles are boring and monotonous, devoid of challenge but also last too long considering the difficulty. The dungeons are mundane as well. I would be interested in how much a proper translation of the game would improve it, though. Maybe I would have at least played through to the end instead of stopping 2 dungeons short because I just wasn't having any fun anymore (and hadn't been for hours).

Biggest disappointment for me was Brutal Legend. I remember hearing it had some RTS elements, but didn't think it was the basis of the entire gameplay. And it's not like I don't like RTSs(I do). I just hate the controls on the consoles, and this game is no different(if anything, makes it worse). Also, the game seemed to end pretty abruptly for me.
Halo 3 ODST was definitely my most disappointing game of the year...
I loved ODST. Dare I say more so than Halo 3? I loved the fact that you aren't some super soldier anymore. I like the fact that you do need to pick your own fights and that making a wrong decision against a group of bad guys, even if its just a group of grunts, can really mess you up and get you in deep shit(although, maybe this is just me since I played it on my own on Legendary). Firefight is fun too.

Most disappointing would have to be Resident Evil 5. I actually liked the addition of co-op. You need to play with another person though because towards the end of the game the CPU becomes brain dead. I managed to play it alone up until the boss you need to kill with the flamethrower. I couldn't beat it with the CPU. The story was pretty bad. They ruined Jill for some minor plot bullshit and Wesker became this ridiculous evil character. The game wasn't scary at all. I have no idea why they showed cutscenes every time enemies showed up. It ruined it. The monsters strayed farther and farther away from zombies. Resident Evil 5 was pretty much an action game with the Resident Evil name slapped on it for sales. The game was good, but not Resident Evil good. I really wish they would go back to the old style, but modernize it. If they continue with this the series won't be recognizable anymore.

Worst game is definitely Shellshock 2. Total piece of shit.

As many people have already said, the biggest disappointment this year was Resident Evil 5. I loved RE4, but this game did nothing for me. I had to force myself to finish it, and I never want to play it again. When co-op games like Gears of War have been out, how did Capcom fuck up co-op so horribly?

Tekken 6 was also a disappointment. The terrible online coupled with the horrid scenario mode made that game quite underwhelming.

Probably Bionic Commando, RE5, and Brutal Legend for most disappointing. I don't usually play bad games but it really sucks when one that's hyped and looks great before release turns into a bummer.

Most disappointing--
Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2

Premise: Fix Ninja Gaiden 2 by balancing the game better and make it awesome by adding online co-op missions, extra playable characters, and new bosses/enemies.

Execution: take out most of the enemies and many entire fights, but leave in the AI that allowed them to be cut to shreds without defending themselves.

Result: a better game than NG2, but totally boring. And online co-op is laggy, but the new characters and stages were fun.

I can understand that honestly. I guess my tolerance level for "annoying shit in RPGs" is there because I grew up with trite like Beyond the Beyond and Secret of the Stars lol :p I guess when I'm saying Nostalgia is a "decent RPG" I'm being heavily sympathetic to the title. It kind of came out of nowhere for me so that's probably why I wasn't disappointed with it.

I do remember retroactively reading past threads here on how people were looking forward to it (Skies of Arcadia look alike lol) and it didn't deliver, at all. I don't blame you though, it was a borefest at times. I'm even starting to wonder if my patience is there for RPGs nowadays, I can't finish DQV DS for the life of me. It just trudges along too damn slow for my tastes. :p
Tekken 6 was also a disappointment. The terrible online coupled with the horrid scenario mode made that game quite underwhelming.
This.

The only correct answer is Turtles in Time Re-shelled. at least for most disappointing. Maybe not worst, though. I was also very disappointed in Blazblu. The strategies and game mechanics were just too obtuse for me to get a handle on. I had high hopes but sold it about a week after buying.

Worst game I played all year was Fairytale Fights. And that game was free!

Sad to see so many people disappointed in RE5. My roommate and I had a ton of fun with that game.. played it through 3 times.

I completely disagree. Resident evil 5 was a lot of fun! it definately wasnt the best game of the year but it was fun on co-op, mercenaries mode, versus mode, and even single player.

My Picks:

Worst Game:
Red Alert 3 (360) - Horrible controls, way too much happening at once for a console rts
Biggest Dissapointment
ODST: Short single player, way too expensive for what was included

Brutal Legend. Easily. Instead of making a game that knows what it is, it tries to do too much. The RTS part is awful. Really kills the flow of the whole experience.

I didnt expect it to be as good as the months of hype made it seem, but I expected at least a somewhat playable title with a good metal soundtrack. All the Judas Priest in the world couldnt save this one. But youre supposed to forget the awful gameplay because Tim Schafer is so "funny".
But youre supposed to forget the awful gameplay because Tim Schafer is so "funny".
Sounds like every Tim Schafer game...

Brutal Legend and Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 were the most disappointing games that I played this year. I had high hopes for both of these but they both fell flat on their face.

My biggest disappointment of 2009 was Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2.

I loved the first one and wanted a sequel for quite sometime, but this one somehow missed the mark. It felt like there was less there, and definitely less to unlock, which was quite disappointing. One of my favorite things about the first game was unlocking all the different costumes, characters, and concept art. This game had a lot less of all of that.

Halo Wars = Crap

Fossil Fighters (DS) = Crap

Fairy Tale Fights = Glitchy Crap (free)

.detuned (PS3) = Crap

Ghostbusters = While amazingly fun, was far too short

More to come.

I didn't like Dead Space: Extraction. Too long of missions, too long standing around doing nothing, can't save during missions... Bleck.

Lets see...

Brutal Legend for one it looked way better than it actually was. I hated it with a passion. The RTS stuff was crap, and the game wasn't even good in general.

MUA2. The story sucks. The fighting was boring, and just didn't feel right. It was a crapfest of a game. I waited on it, and wanted it to be good, but it wasn't.

Dead Space Extraction. fuck that game seriously. The save system was terrible. It was boring, and the chapters was really long. Parts of it was pointless, and it makes you wait. On top of that it froze up on me 2-3 times, and I had to play the same thing over, and over.

I'm sure there is a game or two I'm not thinking of.

The Worst:
Bionic Commando
- GOOD GOD, where do I begin? Ever heard of saving whenever I do X and Y? Ever heard of keeping track of my progress even when I die? NO, then fuck YOU! Not only that, the swinging mechanics are the one thing the game has going for it, and that only works a small amount of the time since radiation will kill you 95% of the time because you had to pick your nose.

Disappointing
Resident Evil 5
- Not scary, Sheva sucks, boulder punching, etc.

Turtles in Time: Re-Shelled
- You took away the music that made the game awesome and replaced it with your own generic crap, Ubisoft.

Modern Warfare 2
- Thanks for going 10 steps backwards on your map design and Campaign, IW.
Disappointing
Oh come on, the boulder punching was like the one thing that made playing that game worth it. I laughed so hard at that part.

Thanks for reminding me about KoFXII. *sigh* I really wanted that to be good, but it was just so fucking barebones.

Blazblue, not because it wasn't a well made game or anything, it was just that after penetrating the game to a certain level it becomes almost as broken and stupid as third strike. There's broken games that can be great fun but Blazblue's lack of balance crippled it in my eyes.

KOFXII: Thankfully one of my friends bought it at release, and I played it at his place. So barebones its comedic, especially given how much shit SNK usually throws in their KOF games (just look at XII or MI2)
Tekken 6 was also a disappointment. The terrible online coupled with the horrid scenario mode made that game quite underwhelming.
Oh my God do I agree. Namco can suck a dick for making that one of the main focuses of the game.
Brutal Legend. Easily. Instead of making a game that knows what it is, it tries to do too much. The RTS part is awful. Really kills the flow of the whole experience.
I Wanted to love the game, but yeah I agree, which kinda pains me because there was so much potential.

Besides that Lego Rock Band sucked ass. Besides having a few good songs it was a majority made up of God awful songs. Plus it feels like a step back in the sense that World Tour mode brings back bad memories of Rock Band 1's Tour mode with the game CONSTANTLY picking the same damn songs and they're ALWAYS on disc.

Scribblenauts was also a HUGE disappointment. Love that free rooster hat I got, but fuck the hype wagon was too huge for this one. More then half the time it feels my strategies came down to luck or stupidity and not as open as people made it out to be. Plus what's not already said about the controls?

Oh and Tony Hawk Ride for worst game I played this year. Friend bought it and as he described it, "it looks like I'm having an angry seizure."

Most over-hyped purchase I made was Killzone 2. I never played the first one, so I decided to give this one a try and got bored after an hour of running around one-shot knifing everything. Sorry, Crysis is still the king of graphics so this game was nothing more than a pretty, empty box.

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2

I felt that they took out a lot of the replayability of the game with the removal of so many unlockables.

I'd say that Tekken 6 and Brutal Legend were dissapointing. I wouldnt say they "sucked" but they definitly didnt live up to the hype.

I don't feel that any of these games are bad games, but they were definitely the ones that disappointed me the most based on my expectations.

Killzone 2 - I didn't like the controls much. To me it felt restrictive in the way it moved, almost like my character was tied down with resistance bands.

inFamous - It's a real shame that it was so extremely repetitive with the same side missions over and over when the game had such great controls and awesome power ups. The city was great, but doing the same thing over and over was pretty awful. They should have learned from Assassin's Creed 1.

Halo 3: ODST - Overall it felt like a bunch of corners were cut and that the length was artificially inflated with the hub world. I hated the hub world, and so did everybody else I played through the game with on co-op.

It' been said, but I don't mind repeating-- Brutal Legend was confusingly bad.

(I actually really enjoyed RE5. Played through it several times in online Co-Op. I understand that most people hated it for changing the formula so much, but I enjoyed the experience.)

I know- i wouldn't even have bothered playing it by myself. As is, it stands as my favorite online experience of this generation (but i don't know how much of that is the game or the company I keep).

what's up with all the T6 hate? they fixed online in november, at least, as well as you can fix online so it's on par with SF4/BB.

scenario sucks but i find T6 more fun than any other fighter of 2009.

BlazBlue>>>>>>>>>>>>>>T6

Worst - Madworld

I really wanted to like this game and it completely oozed style from the art design to the awesome soundtrack but the concept fell short for me personally. I love beat em ups, just not beat em ups that require a score for you to advance. If scoring had been secondary, it would have been absolutely great and it ended up being a deal breaker for me.

Disappointing - 3 way tie

RE5 - I love this series and RE4 was an amazing change of pace for the franchise. However, making it pretty and relocating from Spain to Africa leaves much to be desired. I felt 'meh' about the demo and finally fired up my copy over the weekend and the idea that I'm standing stationary to try and take out an entire hoard of enemies feels so archaic. Third person shooters have come so far and all they really had to do was copy Uncharted's formula and it would have been awesome. I'll probably give it another shot but I honestly feel like I have better games I'd rather play than adjust to the control scheme.

Trine - REALLY looked forward to this and checking the weekly updates to see if it finally released was painstaking as it was delayed weeks and months for no apparant reason. As I played through it one day, I realized that there was nothing that kept me coming back for more other than the notion that I want to like this game. It just never got its hooks into me.

NSMB Wii - I caught a lot of hell for going off on it after a frustrating bout or two with the motion activated "grab" control. This was the first Wii game I was willing to buy full price on release since Mario Kart 18 months ago and I had a complete blast playing through the DS game for the first time weeks before release. Though it didn't feel like much of an upgrade from a 3 year old handheld release aesthetically or even in spirit, I ignored the motion mechanic and got mostly through it. I got to a point where it just completely annoyed me to the point where I wrote the game off and shipped it out on goozex within an hour and never looked back. Sorry, I love Nintendo and mascot games, but I just have 0 interest in motion controls.

It was good, but not worth 60 dollars. Didn't it already drop to 40 dollars?

Worst:
1. Muramasa - This game was a preliminary contender for Wii GotY for me. But in the end, it was just a beautiful game with nothing but repetitive and stale gameplay. More importantly, I can't fathom how much better this game would look on the 360/PS3.

2. Madworld - Another game that looked good but felt stale. Even it's unique art style wasn't really that great.

3. Kingdom Hearts 358/2 - This game has the longest and most boring introduction of all time... for the first 20 hours, there is basically no story. Of course, that leaves the game with about 5-10 hours of actual progression. And the gameplay just doesn't work very well with the DS's limited controls.

Most Disappointing:
1. Modern Warfare 2 - This is nothing more than MW's multiplayer with minor additions and a lazy single player campaign that lasted 3 whole hours. I'm fairly sure the doesn't even run at a native 720p and it needed to be patch multiple times within the first week. Is it bad? No. But for one of the most anticipated games of all time, it's a pretty weak game.

2. Resident Evil 5 - It felt too much like an action game and not much like a Resident Evil game. It's fun but just felt too generic. And the ally A.I. is just plain bad...

3. Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks - This just felt like a lazy attempt to appease people who complain about the Wii/DS being nothing more than mini-game machines. Phantom Hourglass wasn't exactly the best Zelda but combine PH's gameplay with some unbelievably boring train traveling segments (at least sailing allowed you to explore at your will) and you've got a recipe for disappointment.

I enjoyed RE5 solo. there, I said it. Mercenaries is great. Gameplay-wise, I didn't find it a whole lot different than RE4. Tone/story-wise, it's obviously much different (but who the hell plays RE for story...)
that said, I wouldn't try anything tougher than normal with the AI.

A lot of Brutal Legend hate (for lack of a better word)... I rather enjoyed it the game, although the RTS element did detract from the overall experience.

I really have to agree with the OP on Black Sigil. Worst and Most Disappointing all combined in something I had such high hopes for. Other than Black Sigil, I don't regret playing any of the games that graced my consoles from 2009.
BlazBlue>>>>>>>>>>>>>>T6
Buahahahaabaa. BlazWeeaboo.

That game is so unbalanced its not even funny. Arakune and Nu shit on everyone else to the point where you cant even play the game anymore.

For a real discussion:

Most Disappointing:

1. Kingdom Heats 358/2 Days. A game of sidequests tied together with a terrible story.
2. Brutal Legend: Look forward to this so much and It was doublefine'd
3. Street Fighter 4. Dimps. Enough said. 3S all day babi.

Worst:
1. Killzone 2- Controls. Awful. Dead World.
2. KOF 12. -Enough said.
3. Scribblenauts. - Controls so bad most would kill.

Last edited by a moderator:
Brutal Legend - partly because of the RTS elements which I was not expecting, partly because I hated all the side mission activities and didn't feel like doing any of them, and partly because I simply hated the game world and wasn't interested in spending my time there (unlike Oblivion or Fallout 3 where I loved exploring and wandering around). Also, its part my fault as well because I knew what I was getting in to despite the fact that I'm not a fan of heavy metal but I thought the game would be good enough that I wouldn't care but apparently I was wrong.

I don't buy a ton of games, so here is my list:

Worst Game:

Gears of War 2 - Yes, I know that it was released in 2008, but it was released in late 2008, and wasn't playable online until 2009. Talk about a broken game that only sells for its graphics. I found the single player to be such a big borefest that I couldn't even continue it with a friend on co-op. As for multiplayer, it really didn't evolve much from the first, and the matchmaking was broken for the entire tenure that I gave the game a try (2 months!) However, I really think that this game speaks volumes about online multiplayer on consoles. Simply put, mainstream, blockbuster games cannot have sluggish "tactical" multiplayer on consoles, since every idiot wants to rush around with the shotgun and hope to get 1 or 2 kills before dying, when they could have taken the alternative route of utilizing the microphone to coordinate with their team mates, instead of singing songs and making fart sounds.

Most disappointing:

Call of Duty MW2 - Now this is a pretty good game and all, but this was hailed as the second coming of Jesus, and it didn't deliver. The multiplayer had some crazy issues the first month it was out, and other aspects of the games multiplayer are simply unpatchable, such as the imbalance of the core gameplay which is stimulated by the horrendous level design, which also cannot be patched. Notice how my rant has focused on the multiplayer, because the single player option is pretty much garbage. Its uninspired and confused. Spec Ops could have been fun if it had matchmaking, but it doesnt.

Most worrisome:

Since this is the general gaming forum, it makes sense that I say that L4D2 and ODST here. The current industry path is promoting more and more sequels, but what we witnessed with these two titles is that two reputable developers (Valve and Bungie) were willing to take advantage of their fans buy charging them full price for half empty games. Historically, these two studios have stood by their fans, but if they were so eager to cash in on brand recognition, then this is a sign of worse things to come from other developers who don't value their fans as much as they should.

I agree in terms of the narrative. I think it's a fantastic game, but the storyline was nonexistent.

Here's what I gleaned from it over a one playthrough and loads of MP: you're a generic macho white dude with a rainbow coalition of support dudes who curse a lot and kick ass, a la Gears of War, fighting some dudes in masks who have a Third Reich kinda aesthetic thing going on, so I guess that makes them bad).

In reality, the studio that made the game developed the storyline in an unforgiving fashion that assumed you had played the first game (which I, and many other people, did not). Understanding the story is like trying to watch the second half of a season of Arrested Development without having seen the first half - you're going to miss out on so much detail and relevant information. The story could have been less selfish in explaining how things panned out throughout the game (as well as done more to establish clear protagonists and antagonists, as by the end of the game, I sympathized with the Helghast and thought the ISA were a bunch of assholes).

On topic...disappointing for me. Well, I just got Brutal Legend from GF and I may ship it right back based on what y'all say here. Sheesh.

Madworld and HOTD: Overkill (tie): very repetitive gameplay that felt uninspired. All the creative juices went towards creating atmosphere, but the underlying game that we're supposed to enjoy as well simply wasn't much fun - especially in Madworld's case. HOTD was very, very clever in its presentation, but I became bored with the gameplay.

Guitar Hero: World Tour, Metallica, and 5: I didn't play WT until this year, and all three are, to me, positively soulless creatures that take music I enjoy and make them unfun, uninspired, terrible things. The "music game" genre is not dead to me yet (I feel the opposite of this w/ Beatles: RB, as its presentation is awe-inspiring), but Guitar Hero sure is.

Lastly, I'll echo Kingdom Hearts DS. Paint-by-numbers, repetitive gameplay, adequate-but-could-be-improved DS controls, and a story that's so droll it doesn't compel you to continue slogging through the boring gameplay to reveal more. Ugh.

Worst that I own - Dynasty Warriors 6 Empires - I actually did pretty good in 2009 for purchases as most of my games were either from 2008 or rated rather high. But I gotta admit this - I really need to stop buying Dynasty Warriors games (with the exception of maybe Strikeforce since it will have online and I heard *positive* reviews for a change) they have become to the point where they have changed little to nothing in the series but I find it so hard to resist buying a crappy version of their beat em up every year or two. Luckily I got it on clearance at Target for under $20 so I didn't miss out that much.

Most disappointing that I own - King of Fighters XII - What's going on here? Horrible net code that even has me lag from someone who I'm playing with in the OTHER ROOM! The roster is pretty pathetic. No taunts? Where the fuck is K? Where are all the damn characters? WTF? What is this? Five battles and I'm done? Wheres the story? WHOS THE BOSS? Wow. Yeah that game would have a much easier pill to swallow at $10.

Runner up - Madworld (Glad I only paid $10 for it).

Worst game that I don't own from 2009 that everyone says sucked - Bionic Commando.

I can't really say Tekken 6 because It's just Tekken. Nothing about it has changed much, and they fixed the online so It's pretty playable now. When it comes to a shitty beat em up campaign mode tho? Yeah, and the achievements only took me 11 hours to get 1000k.
