Welcome to the Japanese niche games deals and discussion thread!  Feel free to talk about local and import Japanese games here.  Our goal is to maintain a thread dedicated to active deals on niche games including RPGs, Visual Novels (VN), Shoot'em ups (Shmups), Musou, etc.  Also maintained are pre-orders for standard, limited and collector's edition games with key release dates provided.

I've wikified the thread to make it more friendly and open to others that can actively update with important information. You can find the wiki post directly below this one.

NOTE:  Please, leave the censorship discussion away from this thread.  It's common for japanese games to have questionable content outside of the country.  We want to keep discussions to the game itself and not about cultural/societal tolerance.

Has anyone in store picked up Valkyria Chronicles PS4 at best buy? Does it still come with the metal case?

If "N" was ever forward thinking, they would have made the 3DS to stream and function as the Vita does, then the tablet for the Wii U would have never been needed, and they could have made a robust tech specific console at a lower cost. They could have included the classic controller, and then the 3DS could have been a companion accessory. And considering how well it has sold, it would have made way more sense.

Of course, they never think of tomorrow, as the 3DS didn't even have a second analog nub, and rather quickly they realized one was needed, so we got the CPP.

I'm hoping they finally pull their head out of their asses, and I think a handheld console hybrid would be the best avenue for them to pursue. Their handheld market is really the only place where they have ever really dominated, so that is where their main focus should lie. Having it function as a console within the home, and double as a controller, would be great, or something of a similar mind set.

I wish them well, but even if the NX is a killer idea, I seriously doubt it will have much support past 1st party titles, but if it's mostly a handheld, they may get decent 3rd party support, as their handhelds have never had the console support issues. Either way, I haven't seen many great decisions from their old guard or the new in recent years that look to positive, but time will tell?

Reboots are cool when it's something like what Tomb Raider did. I would even say RE4 was kind of a reboot in regards to the original titles. I hope they realize that the basics of this franchise is single player ONLY, and subtle horror is the theme of the day(the scares don't need to be slammed in your face). Co-op and multiplayer is nothing I'm interested in for a true RE title, and they can leave that on the cutting room floor.

 
Hopefully RE7 isn't a reboot, though I doubt it will be. I just want them to bring back back some older characters like Rebecca or even Billy to see what they've been up to. Hopefully Chris or Leon won't be in this game, they need a break.

Considering what they did with RE6 and every CG movie that comes out, Capcom loves nothing more than to ruin the franchise.

Did anyone else get their Valkyria Chronicles Remaster early? I thought it had already come out since Best Buy delivered mine on like Friday.

 
Well, it looks like the Atelier Sophie stuff was removed from the PSN store. Hopefully anybody that was interested got in before it went away. They were probably all pre-order incentives with the themes being different per store.

I did for once, though I passed on the themes because I don't plan on ever changing my FF7 theme. Thanks for posting those links.

I actually like the CG movies. I mean, they're corny and ridiculous, but it's freaking Resident Evil! RE6 is a different story. I'm not one of those people that can't get past the fact that Resident Evil games have changed. That's totally fine--hell, Revelations is my favorite one. But after completing six in its entirety, I can't help but feel that it's a terrible game. Leon's campaign is okay--not great. Chris' feels like a shooter trapped in the confines of a Resident evil game--which is obviously not to its benefit. And then there's Jake's, which is just awful. Revelations restored some of my faith in the franchise, but I can't help but feel that they made those games to appease the fans that don't like terrible games, and RE7 will just be more of the bloated, filthy carrion that they spewed out with RE6.

I thought it was a hilarious mess of a game. The game had some good ideas and parts to it,but it has so many moments which made you question if they game went through proper testing. It wants to be a shooter,yet your given so little ammo and limited inventory space. The problems obvious stem from it having three different teams do the campaigns instead of having one cohesive vision of what they wanted to do.

With all the bitching RE6 got and it not hittingcapcoms desired sells numbers, and they are working on RE2 Remake and the Original REMake selling super super good, I think Capcom has a pretty good idea at what they need to do to fix Resident Evil (i should hope)

The CG movies are just the camp of the cutscenes without any of the gameplay, and I really don't have the patience for it. They're not terrible, just nothing terribly compelling. The live action movies are on a whole different level of cancerous. It was fine when they were a separate thing from the games, but the way the stories from the newer games and movies have influenced each other have really made the series seem like a total joke. Totally with you on RE6. It was an absolute train wreck, and to this day can't believe there are actual defenders for it.

RE4 changed the series, and that was great. It needed a change of direction to be relevant in a different way. RE5 may have been a bad Resident Evil game, but it was a good game when played with someone else, especially in Mercenaries. Revelations was a nice callback, but I think they just really don't know what to do with the series outside of remakes at this point. They get good feedback for Revelations, but still greenlight Umbrella Corps while (supposedly) working on REmake2.

They have a long way to go to fix the mess they're in.

I didn't see anything listed for a Vita theme and there's no way for me to really check if there will be one as PS4 is the only physical and there's no digital listing for the Vita version. If you're curious what they look like in use, then:

A-1 & A-2 are Best Buy Pre-Order Themes.

C is a Amazon/Gamestop/EBC Pre-Order Theme.

No word on what specific theme(s) come with the Collector's Edition on the NISA Store. I'm expecting it to be C, but hopefully includes all.

That first Sophie theme is pretty cool. I'm bummed out that I didn't get to download it before it got taken down from the store... :(

Yeah, and hopefully they are part of the NISA Collector's Edition pre-order, since I have one ordered.

Thanks Draekon i was able to get all the ps4 stuff. The themes were just ok, not as nice as the themes that didnt get accidentally free, those look a lot nicer.

Edit: oh i see why A1 is nsfw, i didn't notice it .she's at a front side upskirt angle & she has like a g-string on the right side of the screen, than to the entire left of the screen is her gigantic zoomed in g-string crotch lol

Hmm.. now I'm not sure which set of themes are better.

I think they were still in a period where they (japanese devs) were trying to cater to the Call of Duty crowd (one reason why Chris Redfeilds missions in RE6 were the way they were).

The decision could have been greenlit to make that game along time ago and we are just seeing it now, games take a hella long time to get made yo =]
