Jushin "Thunder" Liger's wrestling topic
You'd probably be feuding with Scorch...
Like as if I would want to fued with that Velocity level jobber. I'm far more important than that... so don't mess with the Demolition Man. :D
Am I the only one who thinks Egde sucks ass? I mean, Christian was 10x the wrestler he is.
I agree. The only thing Edge had on Christian was underage girls screaming for him....

Also, what myke said in my sig...

Now when it was the "5 second pose" Edge and Christian with Christian doing most of the mic work, he was pretty fun to watch.

BTW, the Burchill finisher is SICK. I have never seen anything like that in my life. You botch that and someone is gonna die.

It's not cheating if there are no disqualifications. Well, there was once a DQ in ECW, but that barely even counts.
It'll be a while. As I said, I want to add some muscle, and I'm not sure when I'll be moving back to Illinois. Then I have to train (usually 6 months before a debut) and all that. NMW does have all shows on DVD, however, so if I did start wrestling, you could watch.

I've mentioned the organization and my friends who run it and wrestle for it, but for anyone who wants to check it, out, go to www.newmidwest.com.

Also, I have a fan made DVD of one of their free shows. The crowd was much smaller than usual and the wrestling wasn't the best, but it's decent overall. Assuming the DVD burner works (never tried it) or someone can tell me how to put the show online, I can make it available to all of you.
Cool. So, is your fiancee going to move with you to Illinois?

Good luck with your training. I'm in training myself (although not for wrestling), and it's going well.

Thanks. Yeah, that's the plan... But... Well, never mind.

I'm not sure how well I'll do. I have the passion for the business, but I've never been the most athletic, and I can get nervous in front of crowds.

What are you training for?
When did Burchill debut the C4 in WWE?
Someone who knows the name of *that* finisher knows more about wrestling than even me. Impressive. Who else has used the C4? I'd never seen it before that Velocity.

If you went back to watch the Burchill match on that show, check out the Jamie Knoble/whoever (probably some jobber like Paul London) match. Knoble's dragon sleeper with leg lock is just awesome, as is the knee drop/gut buster combo (which, I believe, is used by someone in TNA - Roderick Strong maybe?).

Y'know, if I were to develop a wrestling gimmick, I want to say I'd steal from Raven (at the risk of giving DemoMan a giant boner), but with some qualifications:

1) I wouldn't do any of the stuff Raven did from 1997 on. His whole character's motivation was "whiny bitch" from WCW on. He completely changed from his apathetic anti-hero character in ECW; he was no longer Johnny Rotten, he was more like one of those girls on the MTV "Sweet 16" shows, who throw temper tantrums because their father won't buy them a jewel-crusted Hummer for their birthday, or pay to have Britney Spears perform for her and her friends privately. Seriously. Go watch a Raven promo from any point after 1997 that makes him look like anything but the ugly girl in high school going "WAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

2) I'd be more than happy to "take my real personality and turn it up," as many popular wrestlers (Austin comes to mind) say. I'm an unabashed liberal, "just a touch to the right of Marx himself" as my conservative mother might say. I'd be glad to use the wrestling ring as a motivation for pointing out people's egregious spending habits, overwhelming debt accumulation, environmental disregard, hatred for other people based on superficial means, etc. Like JBL but a communist; being an environmentalist worked for Ludvig Borga. Now, part of being a good heel is being transparently lying. Heenan used to do it as an announcer (claiming he never saw the bad guy cheating when it was as clear as day); with a politically-motivated figure, it's easy for me to remain dead serious about what I say (I hate you people because you treat homosexuals as second-class citizens in this nation) and for the crowd to respond as if I was *just* as trandparently lying as Heenan ("that queer likes queers! KILL HIM, IRON MIKE SHARPE!"). At the same time, you can point to many nationalist/ethnic/political angles that either went too far (Sgt. Slaughter) or just plain sucked (La Resistance). Now, I'd differ in that my character would flow naturally, and that I'm not French; I'm not a minority; I'm a bleeding-heart liberal American, and if cast in this role, I'd demand more time to develop my character than simply walking to the ring with an upside-down American flag, or something stupid like that. Think about La Resistance; why were we supposed to hate them? Because they were French (later French Canadian)? what kind of bullshit is that? Now, if a crowd knows what I stand for (that which they, in their infinite ignorance and hatred, do not), they could find it easy to want me to get my ass hella kicked.

3) I would certainly like to steal Raven's body language, at least when he played the character who was indifferent to the crowd. That, and some of his aesthetic, is what I'd rip off. Maybe the braids (I've always wanted blue dreadlocks, but the wife tells me I'm too old for that shit).

4) No Offspring for theme music. fucking awful, they are.

Jamie Knoble for champion! With Kash (a heel) as cruiser champ, I wish they'd let Knoble fight bigger dudes, with the gimmick that he's a mean little asshole that latches on submissions and doesn't let go for anything. Basically, take Benoit's gimmick, replace "Canadian" with "Southern" and "intensity" with "tenacity".

For a wrestling persona, I always wanted to do a heel "mad scientist" gimmick under the name Adam Einstein, complete with cleverly-named trademark maneuvers (The Adam Smasher, The Up-and-Adam, The Steinbuster), "vial of mysterious liquid" used to blind foes, and of course, a beautiful assistant.

Also, Thomas Dolby theme music.
Also, Thomas Dolby theme music.
Most hated heel ever! (Unless you use 4 Non Blondes or some shit).

EDIT: I have great respect for Knoble. I never watched him in WCW, but I got to see him wrestle every week for a year when he was in HWA training for the WWF (but then again, I got to see Reno and Kwee-Wee wrestle a lot too; you take the good with the bad). I knew then that Knoble was something special, and an exceptional talent. I also was lucky enough to sit in the 3rd row when he won the ROH title from CM Punk in a 4-way with Christopher Daniels and Samoa Joe. He's a phenomenal wrestler, and he knows it, and luckily, he loves to wrestle.

That having been said, I think he's in the WWE for financial reasons. I respect the man, but he (and people like Spanky) know they won't get to wrestle 20 minute matches and entertain the crowd. They know they won't get onto SmackDown, unless it's to be jobber or squash-fodder (see Kendrick and London getting killed by the Shane Twins; when were they last on SD?). They both left the WWE for a period, and they both got to wrestle to their hearts' content. They know they won't be doing that in the WWE, but their paychecks even things out. The same will be the case with CM Punk, when he debuts. He won't amount to shit because he's too scrawny (relativel speaking, of course), and having seen his work, I can't picture him working a 6-minute match on a WWE show.

Let them make their money now. Just be smart and save it/invest it, motherfuckers. I demand to see all of them wrestle again, and that means I'll have to wait until they all leave the WWE so I can watch them in a real wrestling match (not real in that weirdo crying guy sense, of course, but real as in not a 3-minute ballsack WWE match).

Aw, c'mon, don't leave me hanging! :)

Well, either way, that's OK. I'm sure you'll do great, though. You can become very athletic if you put the work in, and once you perform for crowds a few times, the "stage fright" will melt away.

Time for Saucy Jack's rasslin' news! Brought to you by:

FIORE! The new fragrance by the legendary actress Francesca Fiore! "Feel like a bitch!"

Tonight's news will focus on TNA. I'm covering for DemoMan, who is apparently ill with "Best Buy Fever." Can't get enough of the blue and yellow, I guess. Hope you get well soon, Brian, and remember... use your Rewards Zone cards... and Turn on the Fun! ;)

Tonight's issue... Does WWE have a plan to destroy TNA?... and... What's Sting been like backstage?

From The Wrestling Observer Newsletter:

Johnny Ace has been given word from the top to sign anybody TNA is interested in, even if it is guys the E just recently cut. Some office workers have been told the idea is to sign them with lengthy no-compete clauses, then bury them so that by the time they can go to TNA, they are damaged goods. Dave says management see this as a possible pivotal year for TNA, and doesn't particularly want them to become legit competition.

According to backstage sources in TNA, Sting was very sociable with everyone when he was there. He showed up bright and early in great shape, looking ready to go. He was hanging out, joking, talking to, and spending lots of time with all the other wrestlers there. He spent a lot of time talking to Abyss, who he is a big fan of.

When Sting was in TNA previously, he was said to have kind of a bad attitude where he just showed up, did his thing, and left. However things are visibly much different this time.

Word going around now is that Sting is very open to putting people over and doing jobs. He realizes this is his last run and is ready to go. It's said he wants to have fun and help TNA out, more specifically, he wants to help TNA out to the point where they are considered competition for WWE. He has been vocal about his feelings about how wrestling needs competition.

The belief right now is that Sting very well could be to TNA what Terry Funk was to ECW, where he can put over their up and coming wrestlers.

It looks like Sting is ready to really help this company out this time around.

I wonder what is harder on Knoble's body - the hard WWE travel while wrestling about 10-15 easy minutes a week on average, or the lighter indy travel schedule wrestling 30-45 hard-hitting minutes a week on average? If he can walk out of WWE in 5 years with a bunch of money saved up and relatively little fatigue on his body, I'd say he's making the right decision.

Comparing him with Sting, taking a look at HBK's recent career, being kind and putting people over have nothing to do with Jesus Christ.

I'm glad Sting is a realist, and I'm glad he has short hair again.

That's an interesting plot to kill TNA, but do you think they'll go through with it? I guess here's the answer: Watch Charlie Haas when he comes back and see.

Another piece of news:

Credit: PWTorch

Since the breakup between Lita and Edge, Edge has reconciled with his wife. Acting in a role with Lita this past Monday night on RAW was understandably awkward for Lita and Edge both.

Edge has developed a reputation for doing what he is asked by management. However there were limits as to how far Edge would go with the segment on RAW.

Lita on the other hand is a very private individual and has reservation about play a “slut” character in response to her affair with Edge going public. The sex only further enhanced that character and fused real-life with storyline.
I was wondering. What really happened to Bischoff? Did he really get canned and he played along with the storyline? Or is he just off of TV?

Also, to add to the converstions of pages past, I would really like to see Mysterio and Hardy each gain one of the titles and have a real go with it. Also, Y2J as RAW GM isn't a bad idea. A GM who could be a face or heel at the drop of a hat? No one has that type of charisma with the crowd that CJ does.

The news is saying that WWE wants Ross back. Do you think they are talking about as an announcer again? Or maybe Austin will pull some strings and end up getting Ross put in as GM? That would be different...
So does anyone kow what happened to Bischoff?

All joking aside I have been down with a bit of a cold lately. My voice has been very whimpering lately to the point of me having to strain my vocal cords just to speak at times. It is starting to go away a bit but its not quite fun trying to sell stuff at work when I can barely talk at times.

However it was fun at Worst Buy to say NO to the ten trillion things by just saying "I'm just going to say this once since I got a cold but what I got here is all I want. Understood? Good." I'll post a review of the Daniels DVD in a day or two.

Yeah the video compression is god aweful at times on the DVD. Checking the size of the DVD its 6.8 gigs total (off the top of my head). Not to mention the amount of editing done to many matches is terrible. I swear if I didn't know I would of sworn I was watching a halfway decent VCD bootleg instead of a professionally authored DVD.

I'm suspecting that TNA wanted to make this a 2 disc set, and both discs being dual layer as well but decided to compress it down to one disc. Its painfully obvious as the Daniels bits during the main feature seem to indicate in a slight way that you have switched to a seperate disc.

Jerry Lawler recently signed a long-term contract extension with WWE, so rumors that he might be "squeezed out" of the RAW commentary booth are untrue. In fact, with Joey Styles and Coach both having received heat from Vince McMahon, Lawler is the only announcer at the table on good terms with the WWE boss.

-- Shawn Michaels is telling friends that he plans to wrestle for at least a few more years. Nonetheless, there is speculation that he might be hiding some sort of pain, as his recent matches have reflected a slower, more protective style.

I don't know why but...

... this is the most freakin hillarious picture I'd ever seen of Scott D'Amour. I didn't know that TNA had a section on their pictures site (tnapics.com) for the Team 3D funeral which is where I found that at. Classic... just classic.
Holy...I've watched it 5 times and I still can't believe it...I mean he's a big guy...
That's why he was signed from FWA. The man (6 foot 4 268 pounds) is as agile as a crusierweight.

Just wait till he debuts the standing SSP.

You can see some other crazy crap Burchill has done here.
Anyone know how much crative control he has had in WWE? I wonder what he actually did and didn't do.
Absolutely none he was only an on screen character. He was just one of the boys.

I don't think anyone has "creative control" in the contractual sense (see: Hulk Hogan in WWF/WCW, Bret Hart in WWF). I think there are some who have pull due to main event status (HHH, Undertaker, HBK, Angle); they can throw a temper tantrum or refuse to put someone over without feeling the effects that, say, Ahmed Johnson would (who was shitcanned for refusing to job to Kurrgan, IIRC). They also have the ear of Vince more than Paul (who?) London, and their ideas will be given more credence, be it proposing an idea or shooting one down.

Bischoff was just an actor. I'd love to see him and/or Heyman running the ship in TNA (well, as long as Bischoff doesn't have direct access to the money, of course).

It's frightening how much has changed in 5 years. Jericho debuted during a time when it was an incredible opportunity to sign with the WWF; the same goes for the WCW guys who stayed on. The WWF was saving their asses, they were led to believe. Now fans grumble (sometimes; not guyver, probably) if so-and-so signs with the WWE; this can only become worse if they purposely sign guys to bury them (what I willl, in the future, refer to as the "Charlie Haas Project").

The WWE is right; this is a crucial year for TNA. They'll either flourish and be on Monday nights by fall, or they'll flounder and lose Panda's financial backing by the end of the year.

Scott D'Amore is awesome. He should be allowed to wrestle more.

If I can't do a Hollywood gimmick, I want to be Canadian. As far back as age 13, I got shit thrown at me for supporting Canadian wrestlers such as Bret Hart.

The C4 is awesome, but the standing SSP has been done by several guys (which is not to say that it doesn't look great) such as John Hennigan, AKA Johnny Nitro, on Tough Enough 3.

They need to start touring, they need to get it to they people who miss wrestling and are not hardcore internet fan like the people here. If Spike is thier only vehicle for exposere they need to do something on thier own. That will inturn raise ratings and give them a reason to be on monday night. Not only as an alternative but a better WRESTLING product. Not some crap that say LIVE SEX aka: we need a rating boost tonight.

I think if TNA wasn't so desperate for TV exposure they should have passed on Spike TV. This is going to be the third time out of three that Spike total fucks over the wrestling promotion on their network. Obviously WWE could take it, with the money and following that Vince had built up over the years. Asking ECW to pretty much not be ECW though? I'm still blaming TNN/Spike for the painful program that was supposed to be ECW and pretty much killed the product.
