Kansas CAG Thread

Nah, that was pretty much the only game I really wanted to get out of this sale but it's much appreciated. Again, referencing the whole "spent a bit too much last month in Colorado" problem ;)

You'll probably have better luck down there- it's a little off the beaten path so it's one of my favorite "deal" stores.

So,

Did someone clean out all the Targets of the Tony Hawk's Skateboard bundles, or did Target actually "send them back" as they claimed?

I swear, one day I go in there and they're still sitting in piles with the $44.98 price tags on them. Just a couple of days later I read here on CAG that the price has FINALLY dropped to the ~$23 price point and when I go into the stores, they're ALL gone. None of the Targets really seemed to know what actually happened to them, but they all said something about "sometimes we send them back".

Just curious if you guys knew anything...

I think they actually donated them to goodwill. I've read in other threads where CAGer were finding them at their local goodwill shops for sale. If I can find the thread I'll link it. Seems that goodwill even has an ebay style auction website where they sell video game related items.

EDIT: Here's the link to the site: http://www.shopgoodwill.com/listings/listByCat.asp?catID=33
Just do a search for "Tony Hawk" and you'll come up with a bunch of them.

Today I traded in a bunch of stuff at Gameco on 95th Street. The trade values were way better than I expected although they're a bit overpriced and have a limited selection.

Managers special at CompUSA north Rock road Wichita. Kingdom of paradise for the PSP, marked as $10, but only charged $5. Good for a new PSP game.
Did the movies go up to 30% off?
I don't think so- I think they were still at 10% like a lot of other stuff.

I posted this in the Target thread but since it's relevant to Kansas City area CAGers:

I bought Viewtiful Joe Double Trouble and Gunpey for the DS for $5 each at Target. The store off of Chouteau trafficway in the northland had a copy of each on the shelves. I grabbed them, took them to the pharmacy (had to get a prescription for the wife), and they rang up $0.00. They asked me how much they were and I said "clearance for $4.98".

Might be worth a shot at your local Target. Seems like it's been hit or miss depending on how cooperative the employees are.
HD DVD add-on $130 at Olathe Wal-Mart if they still have them. There were 3 when I was there a couple of weeks back.
I saw them and couldn't believe it. I tried to go back this weekend but they were sold out:bomb: . Hopefully they will get more in before the price goes back up.

The blockbuster on 87th and lackman has a table of games mared clearance 50% off. The prices were right, but the games were wrong. Lots of sports. Anyway, someone in the area might want to take a look. They had xbox, ps2 and psp games in the mix.

Closeout so no.

Made it to the OP CompUSA today. And, in the slowest moving clearance in history, things are still at 10-30%. Console games are 10%, PC games at 15%, and movies at 20%. Blech. A decent selection of games over there for when a drop hits but 10% off a $30 game just isn't that intriguing, especially when I can go across the street and use the gamer gift card for $5 off. Maybe if we get up to 30%, stuff like Clubhouse Games and Elite Beat Agents look a lot better at $20.

Speaking of the BB across the street, anyone hoping to reserve Pokemon and get a stylus, this is not the place to go. I got the last Pearl stylus when I preordered today and there were no Diamond styli (styluses?).

Was in Topeka at the mall yesterday and stepped into Sears to see if they had any clearance games. Well, not really- I only went by what was on the labels but pretty much everything was in the $15-$20 range

SI

I checked CompUSA (Metcalf) today and the sale is still at the same 15% for console games.

Microcenter (also metcalf) is selling official 360 wireless controllers for $30 (reg $50) right now. They had this a while back as a one day only thing but it was in the ad I picked up and I verified it when I bought one. Take an ad with you (they are at the front of the store) to the register, it rang up right but the checker didn't believe it.

Finally, I was in St. Louis a couple days ago and the Slackers had a thick foam dance pad for PS2 for $30. It looked just like my $100 red octane one execpt it was another brand. Seems like a good buy for a CAG who likes DDR games.

edit: I forgot to mention that a new Vintage Stock is going in over by the WalMart that is in the BlueRidge Mall lot.

Damn, I was going to post that. Are Vintage Stocks any good?

Vintage Stocks have always suprised me with their wide breadth of video game stuff (i.e., i found some boxed Famicom games at one once)---but DEFINITELY do not expect to find any deals WHATSOEVER. Overpriced is the name of the game there.

Oh yeah... If you buy anything from them you might ask if they could at least kiss you before taking you from behind. They do usually have a very large variety of stuff but I think that's just because they can't sell it at their gouging rates. They make those payday loan stores look like a bargain in comparison.

Well, I'm down in Joplin, MO for the night- that's close to Kansas- only about 10 miles to the border, Kansas and Oklahoma. And I'm just kindof reminded that there aren't many deals to be had at the moment- not like quite a few times over the past year where there would be multiple good ongoing sales where you could clean up in an "out of the way" place like this.

Within a half mile radius of a mall in Joplin, there's a Best Buy (no Kingdom Hearts 2 for $20 or deals from the recent clearances), a Toys R Us (nothing going on right now- saw a $5 copy of Rub Rabbits and if that's your best deal...), a Sears in the mall (just a bunch of $15-$20 stuff that's a year or more old), a Hastings (well, they rarely have anything good and are more likely to have something insane like $40 used copies of Baten Kaitos or even funnier stuff like a $10 used copy of a game sitting next to a $50 used copy of the same game), and a Target (no games at all but some accessory junk at first clearance).

Sometimes, there's just no luck to be had.

SI

i know there's a Vintage Stock in Joplin (no deals obviously) Did you stop by Eccentrix(sp?) by any chance? I know that they carry used stuff-and you can find a deal or two there sometimes.

Didn't know about either of them or really have time to hit anywhere else up. Tho, if I had know, I would have adjusted accordingly, if possible.

Just a funny story here: I was in GameStop NEXT to OP Mall and they were complaining that 10 year old kids call them all day everyday to ask if they have any Wiis. While I was in there they got a phone call about it and a kid on a bike came in to ask about it. Funny enough, last time I was at the Lee's Summit Wall Mart I saw at least 12 on the shelf.

T

FYI, The CompUSA in OP is at 20%-40% now with games being 20%. They've compressed the store a bit as some of the areas are blocked off. Some decent stuff that has recently come out at 20% off if you want the $10 off it brings but nothing really exciting still. Maybe at 30% some of those older games start looking a bit more attractive but just not yet.

SI

I was just at Target up on SM prkwy and they had the Viva Pinata for $20 deal. I only saw the old version (some call it the collectors edition, but it doesn't actually say that on the case) and not the new "regualr" version. There's a discussion about this deal elsewhere but it is YMMV so I thought I'd let you all know it's a green light at that store.

Was in Topeka and had an hour to kill waiting for a customer so I hit up the Wannamaker stores. Not much luck for clearance stuff but there's not really much organized clearance going on right now. Here's what I found, tho.

Target: I can never find the clearance games section at this store and that's looking all around the electronics and music section. I found a couple of PC games on clearance but there has to be more than that. They have one of those game endcaps but I didn't see any clearance there. A decent number of accessories across all systems orange stickered, tho. Also, not that this stuff is rare these days, but lots of wiimotes and classic controllers.

Toys R Us: Lots of clearance stuff in the 9.98 to 19.98 range, mostly licensed games and franchise- that sort of thing. Nothing great- only saw 1 thing under 9.95 and that was a $5 copy of Polarium. Don't miss the binders on the floor- they don't have enough room on the wall so they've started putting some of the pull tags in binders on the floor.

KMart: I'm just not sure what to look for these days here since clearances are so different from store to store. Nothing really jumped out at me but there were some yellow tags in the cases. Also, rather than having an easy to sift through bin, they had a new clearance case with games "$20 and under" but few were yellow tagged that I could see and most were the standard GH type stuff. FYI: If you wanted a Pokemon pre-order stylus, they had around 5 of each for pre-ordering and those are getting hard to find.

Best Buy: Well, BB never has decent clearances but they did have quite a few 9.99 and 14.99 games- not clearance stuff but not completely bad deals. This did get me my only find of the day- I snagged the last non-GH copy of Kingdom Hearts 2 there for $15 after the new universal clearance and a GGC coupon. I'm going to be down to just 2 coupons in a couple of weeks but I guess I don't get stuff from there very often, since I rarely get full priced games anyways.

Will do.

Was at the CompUSA in OP yesterday- selection's getting pretty picked over but it's still only at 25%. Store's at 25-50% right now, officially. Of course, laptops and desktops are still only 10% despite "everything being 25-50"

SI

I was there yesterday too. It said there were only 14 days left until closing, so they're going to have to start ramping up those clearance prices. Let's keep a close eye on this because at 30-50% off a few games might be worth it. I was curious to see how much they would sell their kiosks for, but they had already been sold to someone else.

They had an Xbox display for $500 sans system :p

I picked up Clubhouse Games for the DS at 25% last week- I think those are the type of things to get, stuff not at full price that won't drop for a little bit, if you don't want to wait. Not much else I was really seeing that would be worth it CAG-wise until we're hitting something like 50% unless people want to get in on some Wii or X360 games below full price, as above. As a friend of mine said when we were there yesterday "Oh, I see how CompUSA gets this deep into its clearance without selling any games- they never marked them down to market price to begin with"

SI

The GameXchange is now closed on 95th and Quivira. I'm not sure when that happened but there is nothing but shelves left in the store.
Will do.

I went in there today. I believe the games are now at 30%, not much selection either. This is probably the worst closing sale i have seen.

Comp USA has 8 days to go and the games are at 40% off but there's nothing worth buying as far as I'm concerned.

The better news is that the Bestbuy next to CompUSA has gamer gift cards in stock!!! I could hardly believe my eyes. I picked up a few and left the rest for you cags (I was tempted to just buy them all). They were on a register end cap thing. Enjoy.

Also, I went to two bestbuys today to use a gamepro $5 coupon that a friend sent me. I was going to pick up some M$ points with it but both stores were out of the $20 cards and wanted to sell me the 4000 point $50 cards. I think this may be on purpose to keep people from saving so much by using coupons. Just a theory though.

I'll be checking the CompUSA again tomorrow, I think.

When do the GGC's expire? If they're the June 07 ones, I already have a decent supply but if we're talking later than that, I'm grabbing some.

June 07. I believe I heard the new ggcs don't have the coupon on them.

Oh :(

Well, they were a dumb idea to begin with for BB- great for us. But if there's one store I don't feel sorry for taking advantage of, it's them.

SI

don't forget that there are even better coupons in the gaming magazine they sell there. It's $20 for a subscription and you get a load of coupons each month. I just mooch off my friend already has a subscription but has different game systems than I do.

Kansas CAGs are fast! If you've been watching the main site, GameStop has lego SW ii (360) for $20/18 but most places have not changed the tags from $40 yet so I thought I could just walk in and pick one up. I went to 2 GSs and only found one used without a case. The guy at the second GS called around for me and another store even told him "we sold out yesterday". I did find a final copy at another store though, but you all are fast.

AT the store I did pick it up at the new price tag was already on it so that's not helping keep it on the self anymore.

Agreed. Things disappear in KC quickly. Very quickly. I always wondered if the Tony Hawk Skateboard bundles were really shipped back to the mfg, or if some Kansas CAG went through and cleaned them out the day they dropped to (what was it, $22?). One Sunday I went in and they were there, the following Tuesday I went in and they were all gone.

The main reason for this post - I was wondering if anybody knew if CompUSA lied to me. About 1.5 weeks before close they swore up and down that 40% was as low as the software - Microsoft Vista, etc specifically - would go (and hinted that no prices would go below what they were marked at that time). They said the company would rather ship to another store than take "that much" of a loss. They also said the liquidation was being handled through CompUSA rather than an actual liquidator. I had meant to go back in there to see if they had lied to me but I live 30 minutes away and had a ridiculously busy schedule the week leading up to their closing the doors for good (I hate being lied to more than I hate missing out on a deal) - now my morbid curiosity is getting the better of me.

So, did anybody get in there during the last couple of days, and did you get anything worthwhile? Did they ever lower the prices any further? Curious what I missed out on.

The OP CompUSA closed out on last Monday, I think. I went the Friday before and snagged an IGO wall charger for $4 but there really wasn't much to speak of in the store, even at 60-80% off. And you know how it is- if there's stuff which is that far marked off, you'll snag stuff even if you don't necessarily want it. PCs and laptops were still like 20% off, tho, so some of those hadn't moved yet. I saw that on Monday, they were supposed to drop prices throughout the day so if I could have gone, I would have loved to, but no such luck.

I ran by the CC on Quivira a couple of days ago and snagged copies of Disagaea 2 and DS Mech Assault for $17. I didn't see any more copies of those but they do have 2 or 3 whole bins of stuff out there.

Also, I'll third what people say about KC- lots of game hoarders, I think. And don't even get me started about Lawrence. Poor college kids + overabundance of time = tons of ebay hoarders. The worst are at Best Buy, where any time there's a sale, the employees say there are handfulls of people scouring the store with lists. When I was in college a couple of years ago, I was happy to have a couple of bucks to try and snag stuff a copy for personal use. Oh well.
