Katamari Damacy 2!!!(First Pics!!!)

I'm very glad that the gaming business has gotten it right for once... I mean, a quirky Japanese title that actually sells and has gotten good feedback from both the gaming community and gaming publications, getting the chance to thrive with a sequel. Let's hope the 2005 they mention is an early 2005 (Jan thru Mar) release though in this case, I can wait no matter the time frame.

I hope its a mid summer release..since that's usually the lull point in the gaming industry, a nice fresh KD experience would be most welcomed by me then.

That's great news. I purchased 5 copies so far. I initially picked up a copy for my kids. They love this game. The other 4 copies were for Birthday parties and XMas gifts. This is a very fun and original game for a great price. I hope the sequel is value-priced as well.

I just oicked this one up after hearing so much about it. Still waiting for it to ship. Hope its good and if it is, bring on part 2!

Yay! I just ordered the first one. This will give me an incentive to play it, otherwise it could have been in danger of ending up in the dreaded "to play" stack.

Am I the only one who doesn't want this? Katamari Damacy was awesome - perhaps one of my favorite games recently - but it does not need a sequel. Instead of churning out sequel, why can't the team that created that come up with a new IP and a new great game?

Because it's simpler to refine an excellent experience (that right now is very popular and marketable) as opposed to completely starting from scratch again.

Give them the chance to at least make a sequel. KD3 the next year would be a bit too much (one wonders if there'll be a KD DS, though), but for now, I'd like to see what direction they take the game.

That's great news...but how could the sequal possibly build off the first one? An out-there concept would call for a extremely out-there connecton to a sequal. Look at FFX-2.

I'm going to have to agree w/ alongx.

Anyone who can come up with a concept like KD I'm sure is original. I'm guessing another out-there concept that will be just as wacky.

That's good to hear, the first one was a nice change in gaming and the feeling of rolling over your first human, man it's utter bliss.
I just hope they keep the cheapass $20 price! ($15 with GGC) :D
That'd be nice, but I'd be willing to pay more than that.

I would have preferred they wait untill the next generation of systems, but I hope they atleast come up with some sort of new play mechanic to keep it fresh rather than just making it more of the same since the original game already has plenty of replay value.

Haven't even played the first one yet, though I did order it from the EBGames website on Fri., and they shipped it the next day.

I would love a sequel to this game. I think ther is a lot that they can do with it. I hope, though, that they keep the Cheap price.

Me too. I can't wait for it to get here.

I was trying to explain this game to my wife and just gave up.

Haha. Yeah, me too - my wife was like "I don't get it." She will probably end up playing it more than I will once it gets here...

Well, throw some ideas out on what they could do.

Specific monuments/cities?
Alien landscapes?
Bionic Commando like swinging?

There is a great deal that Namco can do to extrapolate the first, which was awesome, but doesn't have a ton of replay value. Still, assuming it will be $20, it's already a must have on my list.

Dosent have a ton??? excuse me? how many times have you gotten a 100% collection rate on the first try?

As for the second game I would assume somthing allong the lines of added attacks, like how many times do you ram your katamari into something thinking you should be able to collect it but you;re just a bit too small? they could add a charge move that allows you to collect larger items for a short period of time.

What? I ordered it friday too and it still hasn't shipped

Following last week's confirmation of a sequel to Katarmi Damacy, the best game ever made and you know it, Namco has at last unveiled first pictures of the sequel to said best-game-ever-made. The first pictures can be seen in the image section for this story, accessible via the attractive new image-based link conveniently placed below this text.

While Namco hasn't been forthcoming with actual details on what makes this a sequel, it was good enough to share the final Japanese name of the title. The game is now called Minna Daisuki Katamari Damacy, which can translate to English as either "The Katamari Damacy that Everyone Loves," "The Katamari Damacy that Loves Everyone" or "Everyone Loves Katamari Damacy."
A release is set for Japan in Spring... or maybe Summer... or maybe Fall. Actually, it's Spring. Maybe.

I'm in agreement with those who are not altogether excited about this announcement. While I love Katamari Damacy and am glad to see that it was considered enough of a success to warrant a sequel, the very nature of Katamari Damacy seems averse to a sequel. Wacky, wildly creative games like KD tend to feel washed out when sequels are produced. Just take a look at what happened to Parappa. Not everything needs a sequel, which is what I tried to argue to all fans of ICO who wanted a direct followup. I'm glad that the ICO development team was of the same opinion as mine.

Parappa seemd to go...weird. I like the originals concept, than they messed with it. I'm all for more rolling, especially with niceer graphics (ok, its a very small upgrade..but it helps :) )

Yeah, rolling is great fun, and there seemed to not be enough of it in the first game. I'm all for more rolling, especially if it has the $20 price that made me love the first game.

As much I loved the first one, i'd feel ripped off if they came out and asked more than $20 for this one.

I agree 95%. I love Katamari Damacy, and my friends (especially those who smoke weed) are obsesessed with it. But I'm not sure if the world needs another Katamari Damacy so soon. I mean, the idea was great and the game is a unbeatable at its price, but there are essentially only 3 level types and even then I only really enjoy one of them. It just seems like they are milking this for all it is worth. I would much rather see them take the obviously inspired vision that created the first and use it to create something new.

The world needs a real-life Katamari Damacy I think.

I would like to roll around my old high school a few times, and maybe over some of my former co-workers and bosses. There are a few political people in power I would like to roll up in a ball.

That would be swell.
