The one-two punch of Celine Dion and James Taylor will spell out sure death for Blu-Ray.
that was Blu-ray release list...... sorry it was a bit confusing, but that is Blu-ray's lineup on December 11th. Honestly, I don't think Bourne really matters that day because Harry Potter is on the same day.

Yeah, I think Myke's comment still stands. Those 2'll be the death of blu ray.
Pirates wasn't included in this sale for whatever reason, and I got POTC 1&2, Apocalypto, and Enemy of the State from the Walmart BOGO two weeks ago. But those 4 cost only $8 less than these 8 did.

Bourne falls smack dab into the target demographic of people who own HD players. I know I personally am a part of that demographic and could care less about HP. Definately getting the Bourne trilogy as long as it is 60 bucks somewhere.

Not underestimating HP, but Bourne 3 was a fan fucking tastic movie with tons of great word of mouth. It was the movie of the summer IMO.

I didn't know you had an HD DVD player, Casey.

I think the HP films, despite their "family friendliness" ('cept for that homo Dumbledore ;)), are very nice cinematic features that are ideal for hidef.

But, I also haven't seen the Bourne films, so I may be missing out on somethin' good.

I agree, Bourne was a great movie and actually a sequel that lived up to it's hype, and I don't think Bourne really has a "target" demographic. My parents and grandparents both loved thosem movies, as do my friends and I, so it's one of those movies that everyone can enjoy! But I think Mass media wise Harry potter is bigger, either way, unless Celine Dion sells a lot, I think that could be the first week HD-DVD wins.

And those comments about Celine Dion between Steve, Myke and Redvsblue were hilarious, keep it up. The death of blu-ray would be if they put that crap of her covering AC/DC and doing the air guitar.... I still have nightmares about that one.

and myke, I just saw the third one, and it was AWESOME, and the other two I hear were just as good. Plus, they are based off books so you know they can't be bad. ;)

Yea I got the add-on a few weeks back when they had the 2 extra movies along with heroes sale. Bourne was a big reason why I ended up getting the HD player (and 8 movies, a remote, and a television season along with a player for 190 is a pretty good deal).

I also just splurged and got the 1080p westinghouse 42 TV today. Threw in Casino Royale before I had to go to work and man did it look amazing in 1080p. Can't wait to finally start watching all the movies I bought in HD and have not watched (wanted to wait until I got a TV to watch a lot of them).

I agree about HP , but remember those are pretty much a double dip , except of course the latest one .

The Bourne films are great I saw the newest one last summer and was blown away .
Jason Bourne is like a Bond/Sam Fisher hybrid type of character , a real bad-ass .

The character is so cool you forget it's Matt Damon .
Definitely check them out .

You just might luck out if they try to fill that disc up .;)

Seriously though , as an AC/DC fan since I was 9 , It was total blasphemy to hear about that .
:wall:
Then I somehow had enough guts to catch it on a rerun , bad move on my part .

The famous video series will be available on Blu-ray and HD DVD.

Washington, D.C. (November 11, 2007) -- Girls Gone Wild, the video series that displays young women cavorting in public, will be available in High-Definition next month.

Mantra Films says its latest video, Girls Gone Wild: Sexiest Moment Ever 2, will be released on Blu-ray and HD DVD high-def disc on December 11.

Both the Blu-ray and HD DVD edition will retail for $24.95.

Mantra Films, which was started by Joe Francis, who's now serving time in a Las Vegas jail for federal tax evasion charges, says the new video is "the ultimate collection of the wildest and sexiest footage we've ever caught on tape!...

"Girls Gone Wild: Sexiest Moments Ever 2. Sexiest Moments Ever 2 takes you to the hottest beaches, bars, and college dorm rooms for all the naughtiness that you've come to love from Girls Gone Wild!"

It's unclear if Mantra Films used high-def cameras for the filming of Sexiest Moments Ever 2.

Mantra Films and The Girls Gone Wild video series reportedly generates $100 million in sales annually.

Francis, however, has been the target of criminal investigations in several states, including the aforementioned case in Nevada, by local officials concerned about his company filming young women engaging in sexual activities during Spring Break.

Thanks Linkin. I am going to order that when I get off of work tonight. Don't really care about the box set too much, really just wanted the movies for fairly cheap.

Officially, it's the "DVD, Blu-Ray and HD DVD Deals" forum, so I'll put in a half a vote (cause I'm a relative newbie) for keeping the thread here in a "News" related forum. I wouldn't be offended if it was moved, but the overall content/theme of the forum seems more appropriate here.
I vote for moving it IF

the DVD, Blu Ray, HD DVD deals forum turns into a discussion forum, and not just a deals forum.
That's pretty much what I said .
If there was a DVD HD DVD / Blu-Ray forum you could put everything in there .
I think we need a place to discuss movies in general anyway .

I'll mention it to Cheapy and see what he says. I do agree that we need a movie discussion forum. Most of us post DVD info on the DVD deals thread even if were not actually posting a deal but more to discuss stuff.

EDIT: Sent message to CheapyD. I've always thought that we did need a separate forum to discuss Films, TV, and DVD/HD DVD/Blu-Ray news, so I simply just asked for one.

I think a lot of us have been waiting for a TV / Movie / DVD discussion forum for a while. TV/Movie gets posted normally in Off-Topic where it gets lost fast.
But Blu-Ray never has sales all of the time .
Every 3-4 weeks they have a BOGO sale. Anytime a big movie comes out on HD DVD, a Blu-ray BOGO sale just happens to pop up. Happened with Transformers, now Shrek 3, and I'm sure it will happen again with Bourne.

All I know is that the HD DVD group is planning on fighting back on the week that "I know who killed me" comes out. That is sure to be a HOT title!

So...twice = "every 3-4 weeks"?

I still don't get why you get bent out of shape when there is a BR BOGO, since you buy BOGO Blu-Rays yourself, and it's not as if the BDA invented or copyrighted the BOGO. If HDG can afford to shell out an absurd amount of money for Paramount, they can jolly well afford to eat up a week's worth of BOGO money. Right? Right.

I was just naming the last two BOGOs  I fully expect them to continue with this ever 3-4 weeks. They have had at least 6-10 of them since January 07.

I was wondering , when he said twice , what he was talking about .

I want to know what other times, besides the last two big Disney and now Disney/Sony B1G1 sales have there been?

The only sales I can really think of were the Fry's only sales.

The only sourpusses here should be Sporadic, Linkin, and Rich as they don't have BD players.

Seriously though, it seems like every other week Amazon.com and other big retailers are having these BOGO sales, even Fry's ran them like every week for a while. I guess I could be considered a sourpuss for it. If it wasn't for the BOGO's I dont' think the BR/HD ratio would be in favor of BR or atleast pretty close to HD. I wonder how much money Sony is losing everytime they run one of these, ofcourse it takes money to make money.

There's a difference between, nation wide, every store, B1G1 of which there have been two, and very recently.

And Frys having their own little sales every once in a while when they're only located in a few spots of the country.
They've done the same for HD DVD, just not as good deals.

We know and there's been a hell of alot more for BR .

Don't mean to sound rude, but duh...we all know the difference of a Nationwide sale, but when Amazon.com, Best Buy, Circuit City, J&R, DeepDiscount, decide to do a BOGO, it spreads through the net like wildfire and eventhough its not considered a "nationwide" sale, it ends up being like one. I don't understand why you guys seem offended that we mentioned you guys have had a lot of BOGO's, because in the end, its a deal for you guys.

Well, let's be *very* generous and say there will be 500,000 discs sold this week as a consequence of the BOGO (in real life, it's probably 1/10th that number).

So, they eat the retail price of 250K discs...let's say $25, just to find an even less conservative estimate. They'd eat $6.25 million on those "free" discs, at that cost estimate and sell-through estimate, both of which are rather high.

In sum...how much did Paramount exclusivity cost, again?

EDIT: Linkin, I don't get offended at the prospect of the sale, but the sort of cynical (particularly on a site geared towards sales/discounts/cheap finds) "HAY YOUSE GUYS ARE CHEATING!!!" approach so many HD DVD owners take to these BOGOs is plain silly, and more sour grapes than anything else. If HD DVD had more BOGOs (and that would be far cheaper for HDG to have done than to whore out for Paramount/Dreamworks), you would own more discs, and other folks would own HD DVD discs. I'm not format neutral, but that's a matter of circumstance: you combine $100 players (which is what the 360 AO should retail for now, as it's too absurdly close to standalone prices now) with bimonthly BOGOs, and you can easily begin to chase that growing gap b/w BR and HD disc sales - and I might even get me a "Big Lebowski Player" myself ;)

Because HD-DVD fan boys make such a huge deal out of it, and claim that Blu-ray is the devil for making their movies cheaper to buy, and cheaper than HD-DVD, getting rid of their one advantage.

Damn you Sony/Disney for making your movies cheaper to buy! DAMN YOU!

Something has got to be cheap and it damn sure is not the Blu-Ray players .
Something has got to be cheap and it damn sure is not the Blu-Ray players .
Like I said, they have different stratagies. Blu-ray has a good amount of players in the market with the PS3, and they want to encourage such owners to buy movies, therefore they make them cheaper and affordable. HD-DVD doesn't so they need to get people into HD-DVD buy making players cheaper, which they have done. Is one better than the other? Who knows, either way, Blu-ray is dominating sales. (and it's not just because of the BOGO, the top two selling Blu-ray movies are 300 and The Departed, two of which have NEVER been on a BOGO.)

And your sig is kind of contradictory because the SDF was run by a bunch of Nintendo fanboys. ;)
