Could this be a move toward them going blu ray or hd dvd exclusive?
Nah, as they said, it would be pointless for them to do it as they are the only studio that is neutral at the moment.
Too bad it's a crappy movie.

But I expect no less from the visuals to be 5 star.
Digital to digital better be perfect for such big-name flicks.

Audio though....
The comment about the audio reminds me about Ratatouille again, the BR version had EXCELLENT sound, I was blown away by it, and that's part of the reason of why I loved it so much. Shoot, once in a while I would be looking around, wondering if someone was in the kitchen

Kinda seems like they're trying to resolve the whole format "war" thing, heh.

What I'm wondering is how thick the disc would be, considering the amount of space they'd need for both HD formats :whistle2:k
Could this be a move toward them going blu ray or hd dvd exclusive?
It would make sense, I assume that a Total HD disc would help them save a lot of money vs making title on both Blu-Ray and HD DVD, so if they canned it, it could mean that they are going to choose a side.
I'm not interested in those movies, so I didn't buy them.

EDIT: c'mon? dallow, you're being sarcastic, right?
Guilty pleasure?

Need I remind you Mr. Toxic? ;)

Could just be because everyone else except them picked sides.

They were hoping everyone would embrace it, but since it's clear everyone's supporting their side to the end its not profitable for them to develop a technology only they will use

I knew that would bite me in the ass.

I meant you seem to be let down that WB isn't going to pursue Total HD. Are you genuinely let down that they aren't?

well this sucks...i go to put in Ocean's Twelve and it wouldnt read so i take it out and it has a defect that looks like somebody tried to punch a hole through it...now i have to exchange it tomorrow and put off Oceans thirteen for another day

Should have gone with the HD DVD version, what you described its a manufacturers defect. Blu-Rays are known to instantly implode and cause little dents like that.

....I kid, I kid... :D

yep...i have now learned my lesson with blu-rays, in the trash they go...i am going to give a call to Toshiba and see what they offer me if i become HD DVD exclusive;)

I wouldn't mind scoring the A35 for that price :D
Ah helllll no.
Gimmie HD TIVO!
Had one for ~4 years now. I'll take an HD DVD player with Anchor Bay SD upscaling, HBR audio bitstreaming and 7 free movies for $149, Alex.

I've never had a Tivo, or any kind of DVR.
Lately, I've really been wanting one.

Good specs on the A35 though. Really good.
The A2 and A3 are shrimps in comparison.
I've never had a Tivo, or any kind of DVR.

Then you totally should (and will be able to for a reasonable price, even if it doesn't "win"). I got my first TiVo in 1999. My current one is by FAR the most important HD source I have. If for some reason I could only keep one, I'd light the A1, 360 and PS3 on fire in a second.

I just gave up tivo when I switched to cable 2 or so months back. I hate the DVR the cable company uses, but can't bring myself to buy a tivo just yet.

I miss the fuck out of the lil' bastard.

When do you guys think studios will stop with the craptastic high-def. covers?

Here's what I mean:

I hate the damn silver outlines...why can't we have regular covers, like the box colors can't differentiate enough from regular DVD's!?
The cover of Bourne is the cover from the damn poster. Looks pretty awesome to me.
Talking about the silver outline...It would look better without it like the DVD:

See what I mean? I know not all titles have these but the majority does this. I gotta start printing custom covers soon to replace them.

Bitch at Universal and Disney. As far as I'm aware, they're the only ones that do it. Sony does a tiny little silver bump on the bottom, but that's not too bad.

I thought Nielson said that 300 did 165,000 in the first week alone?

If you add up both, there are over 200K sold; could have been a precipitous drop-off after that (but that's unlikely, given its presence in sales charts). Dunno. What was the release date of 300?

July 31. And according to the last list (aggregate by title), it was 204,400 as of August 5. So basically that's the first week's sales.

That was from the September 2nd Home Media Magazine, so maybe we'll get lucky and they'll do it again in December.

I just bought 4 Fox/MGM titles tonight thanks to this. Gotta love the desperation the BDA is going through now. First it was just Sony and Disney, but now Fox/MGM joined in. Shrek 3 must either be selling like hot cakes, or Oceans Trilogy is selling better on HD DVD. Oh well. I got The Fly for cheap....FINALLY!

Thanks BDA. You have conditioned me to wait for a BOGO on every movie, from all of your studios. No more "Day 1 purchase" on Blu-ray from me! Just got fucked by buying 28 Days Later on release week to see it for $14 35 days later. Never again.

Just curious but why does everyone think hotcakes sell like crazy? I'd imagine they only sell moderately well during breakfast time, which is why the expression 'selling like hot cakes' confuses me.

Oh, and  at the BOGO being a sign of desperation.

I think Gizmo needs a civil war sig for "I'm sittin' on the fence."

Sign me up for a  at "desperation." Guess $98 HD DVD players were a benevolent gift to the public, and not a desperate firesale of stock that had been manufactured in late 2006. ;)

If you're so bothered by the sales, why do you support them by buying from them? Jaysis, you're a hypocrite of the most insignificant level.

lol...funny thing how you mention Oceans Trilogy...since i had a problem with my Oceans twelve disc, i went back to Best buy to exchange it and guess what, no Blu-ray sets left in stock yet they had a ton of the HD-DVD version and the customer service guy was saying none of the other stores within a reasonable radius had the blu-ray version in stock either and there was no set date when more would be coming in.
Shrek 3 must either be selling like hot cakes, or Oceans Trilogy is selling better on HD DVD.
Shrek 3 is not going to do as well as you hope, and the BR Ocean's trilogy is currently 180 on Amazon, while the HD trilogy is...

...

...

...

...596. Smile!

One of these days you're going to admit that Amazon rankings are useless tools. Between the top-ranked hidef videos being 80%+ Blu-Ray (even if you look at the top 250 hidef videos), and thus HD DVD accounting for under 20% of that, as well as the disparity of the Ocean's trilogy on both formats, you're either going to continue to ignore posts such as these, or you'll have to admit that Amazon rankings are meaningless.

Predictions for tomorrow's numbers? Is 74/26 too much to expect?

I know I'm going a little off topic but I had a similar experience. I went to TRU to pick up Mario Galaxy and a guy goes up to the R Zone cashier asking for Assassin's Creed for XBOX360, the R Zone rep says that they are sold out, he then asks for CoD4 and he says that they are sold out. He then tells him, we got plenty for the PS3....the guy leaves and the R Zone rep tells me, seriously the good thing about the PS3 is that you can always find games in stock since no one seems to buy them

Thought that was pretty funny.

On another note, I got Equilibrium and Ghost Rider from XploitedCinema.com
Equilibrium looks good but grainy on dark scenes, I'm pretty sure that the movie wasn't filmed in HD so it doesn't look as good as Transformers but its still good I guess. Wish I had the DVD version to compare it with. As for Ghost Rider...yes I enjoyed the film and that's why I purchased it on HD DVD!

I kinda wish TRU could have gotten some of the LE's of AC, PM'ing at BB is starting to become a pain in the arse for SMG. I just want $25 off the LE :(
The worst was the generic disc art on early BD discs.

Thankfully Sony and others have remedied that.
oh man, don't remind me. I keep looking at those thinking "wtf, you can have cover art but can't print at least a decent picture on the disc, the thing looks funky!"

After I popped it in though, I forgot about it til' it was time to take it back out ;)

Yes, thankfully that has stopped.

I can just imagine people waiting hours on end for hotcakes to go on sale. People get trampled in the mad dash for maple syrup, you know. Or cooking oil.

It's called "Holiday season." All companies and stores do sales.

It's also called being the biggest hypocrites in the world.

MMMMM Blu-Rays! I hate you so much! Nom nom nom nom nom!

Anyway.

Watched Ratatouille last night........... reviews weren't kidding about the spectacular audio.
It's just a perfect surround mix, any way you slice it, the rears and surrounds were used to perfection and not just mere ambiance. Even the menu was in 5.1!

Oh yeah, and the video was good too.
biggrin.gif

I had to laugh at the little intro warning of 2-3 minute load times for BD players.
PS3 loads it in seconds.

Not much to work with on that low-budget 80s cash in.

Get it on DVD. (the latest issue)
It is still worth a viewing and I'm really surprised you've never seen it. (i think you haven't)

I love it.
