david wells was tagged in the first inn...3 runs, 2 homers...but of course my guy on my fantasy team, veron wells made an out....Last year, IIRC, wells was tagged by the bluejays a couple of times.

Dude, you're talking to the man with Sheets and Burnett.

I guess Varitek's millions of intangibles didn't help him at that at-bat?

sheets and burnett....I have wood, prior, and clemans, as well as first game injured nick lowry ....I didn't change the draft setup as I was out of town and have a horrible staff as of now...had no closer, and more then 25% of my sp were on the DL or not playing.

Ouch, apologies, that is bad.

Wells looks terrible, though.

Wells needs to be moved already. Trade him away, or throw him in the middle/long relief for a little while, then bring him back into the rotation.

The Blue Jays looked good, offense was killer.

Going to Dodgers vs Giants game on Friday. Schmidt vs Perez I believe.

I guess Cleveland had to snap their winning streak eventually, and they were in it until the final pitch, better than a blowout for me. Hopefully they'll pick things back up tomorrow, I picked up some bleacher seats on the cheap for the game.

Damnit, two nights in a row the Giants games have been PPD. Morris and Cain pitch tommorow, hopefully we can win those 2 games tommorow which would be awesome.

was the blue jays great, or was the red sox pitching horrible...I saw some of the highlights, and there were some good hits on good pitches, but the first inn, they were ride down the middle of the plate.

No kidding. I always look forward to watching the West Coast games (especially San Fran, so I can see Barroid), and they've been rained out the last three times I've tried to watch them!

(Like Morris's start last week, too.)

Red Sox pitching looks kinda weak, besides Schilling and Beckett. Wells looked weak last night, and Clement just gave up a Grand Slam.

well, wells is coming off of knee surgery, being overweight to begin camp by his standards, and didn't start really pitching untill a week and a half b4 the season started...wells will get 12 - 17 wins this year, keep in mind he was shelled twice by the blue jays early on in the season last year...and the was shelled vs the weak hitting 05 oakland a's. I am not worried about him yet, and if foulke continues to return to form, we have an ace in the making with john paplebon....clement is weak, that is why he is our 5th starter...clement career wise is the same as aj burnett...but cost us less...great stuff, but not ride in the head...

yeah i do agree that wells will get 12 this year but i dont think nothing much more than that...i just dont think he wants to be there so that will make him not play to his full potential...Papelbon looks more like KRod everytime i see him...and if he gets in the rotation maybe the next schilling..then they could slot foulke back to closer which i would love to see him since i have him on my fantasy team and papelbon ruined my pick haha...the sox shouldnt have anything to worry about this year..if the rotation can put up numbers like they are doing now and the offense does it job...than the al east is there's or atleast the wild card..

Mmmm it feels good to be 7-1 even though its against bad teams..

my money is that wells gets traded by the all star break...won't get much, but he needs to have a couple of decent starts before we can move him...him mouthing off and demanding a trade killled his trade value, so it needs to get back to something to trade a 14 game winning lefty. If clemans comes back, my money is on boston, the yanks won't offer to let him go home between starts, and boston will. IMO, that kills any chance of him in a yankess uniform. The rangers have great team, but NO pitching. Houston could be still in it, as st louis is a lot weaker this season. While I think paplebon will be a great starter, and I do believe foulke can still be a very good closer. I would like for paplebon to stay the closer, as my fantasy team had none. Someone dropped papblebon went he went to the bullpen, and I picked him up as I figured his era, whip, k/9 would help me out. And the day I got him, he became the closer. :)

david wells is going back on the DL, lenny dinardo will make a spot start for him on monday.

Wells lands on DL for second time with knee injury

Associated Press

BOSTON -- David Wells went on the disabled list for the second time this season Saturday, another blow to the Red Sox's rotation after they opened spring training with seven pitchers competing for five starting spots.

That group is down to four with the trade of Bronson Arroyo to Cincinnati and the success of Jonathan Papelbon as the closer. So Lenny DiNardo, who has one start in 30 major-league games, will probably fill in for Wells on Monday against Seattle.
Boston replaced the left-handed Wells on the roster with right-handed long reliever Jermaine Van Buren, who was called up from Triple-A Pawtucket.
The Red Sox said Wells has a sprained right knee, which underwent offseason surgery. He received a shot of the joint lubricant Synvisc on Friday night after a win over Seattle. That is usually administered in a series of three injections a week apart. Wells was placed on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to Thursday, meaning he can't be activated before April 28.
Manager Terry Francona and general manager Theo Epstein refused to put a timetable on Wells' return. Meanwhile, Curt Schilling, Tim Wakefield, Josh Beckett and Matt Clement are the top four starters.
The 42-year-old Wells began the season on the disabled list and struggled in a rehabilitation start April 7 at Pawtucket. He struggled again in his first start of the year for Boston last Wednesday in an 8-4 loss to Toronto, allowing seven runs on 10 hits -- three of them homers -- before leaving with no outs in the fifth.
Francona said Wells felt a problem in the knee while throwing Friday.
"I think David felt like it was going to be hard for him to do the things he needs to do to be successful in the condition he's in right now," Francona said.
The Red Sox held Wells back during the spring while he rehabilitated his knee, but his last spring training appearance was impressive.
"He didn't say anything about his knee until now," Epstein said. "He looked actually pretty good in spring training. I was at his last outing in spring training while the team was in Philadelphia [for two exhibition games] and he looked probably better in that outing than he did at any point last year.
"And then in Pawtucket he struggled, but there were no complaints at all about his knee so you've got to factor in what the guy tells you," he said.
DiNardo was chosen in the Rule 5 draft in 2004, when he made 22 relief appearances with a 4.23 ERA and no record. Last year, he pitched in eight games with one start for Boston with a 1.84 ERA and 0-1 record in 14 2/3 innings.
"We're comfortable with Lenny spot starting for us," Epstein said. "He keeps the ball on the ground and this is a chance for him to step up."
The Red Sox eventually expect the 25-year-old Papelbon to start but don't want to move him out of the closer's role, where he converted his first five save opportunities while allowing two hits in 20 at-bats.
"Right now what he gives us is pretty special," Francona said.
Late in spring training, the Red Sox traded Arroyo for slugging outfielder Wily Mo Pena.
The Red Sox obtained Van Buren in a trade with the Chicago Cubs last Dec. 1. In his only major-league experience, Van Buren was 0-2 with a 3.00 ERA in six innings for the Cubs last year but issued nine walks. He was sent to the minors early in spring training this year to work on his control.
"I thought I was going all right," Van Buren said, "but the real picture was I wasn't pitching as well as I could so I think that was a good lesson for me to go down and focus on what I really needed to do."
He pitched four scoreless innings in two relief outings for Pawtucket and allowed three hits and no walks while striking out four.
Wow.

The Athletics just hit four home runs in five at bats against Vicente Padilla today. This sucks.
Shit, I've got Padilla on my fantasy team.

Giants win a nail biter. Went to the game last night and had to wait 2 hours because of the fucking rain. Bonds almost hit one out, but he's complaining about 10-12 bone chips in his arm floating around, nothing serious from what Buster Olney and Barry Bond's bitch aka Pedro Gomez.

sox were able to squeek by with a win today...dinardo did ok in the spot start, but seanez continues to suck. Foulke had a 123 in on 9 pitches, but then got into a jam...thankfully mark lorretta was able to hit a 2run homer to win it in the bottom of the 9th

Must've been a Homer Simpson, because the pitcher went "D'oh!"

i hope the mets win again tonight...even though Big Papi ripped me a new one i hope pedro can make me feel better about last place....even though the mets are in first and we face atl tonight.

Wow, the Giants are up 7-0 and they allow 9 Runs to the AAA Diamondbacks...at least our offense kicked it in gear.

Yankee pitching: is it too old?

Jeter seems to get booed nonstop at the Rogers Centre, I wonder why.

I'm sitting here watching the Rangers/Mariners and noticed a Japanese Nintendo DS Lite ad behind homeplate. I know the Mariners call themselves Japan's team, but hell, I didn't know Japanese companies actually bought adverts!

What's freaky is they have like 4-5 signs in that stadium that are in basically all Japanese.
sorry man, granted on saturday when I was up 11 - 0, I was hoping for the shutout. :)
haha yeah that was the worst ass beating i ever recieved in fantasy baseball..im just trying to dig myself outt last place..its not cozy in this spot...
Griffey on the DL, whaa?!?!
for some reason that doesnt surprise me at all..wondering why they made the deal for cody ross

Bonds Trainer subpoened

I am starting to get the feeling that with his injury problems and things like the above article, that Bonds will go on the DL and retire right after he passes Babe Ruth on the HR list. That dude is hobbling bad.
what's wrong with brad lidge. if he doesn't get straighten out, the astros aren't going anywhere.
Same thing with Francisco Cordero for the Rangers. He just doesn't have the stuff that made him clutch the last few years anymore. I think Otsuka should be named as the new closer. He's been pretty much lights-out since day one.

There are rumors that Cordero is injured. Apparantly he was hurt in spring training and hasn't gotten better.

Well then he needs to get his ass off of the field. He blew another save today which is ridiculous.

it happens with all ultra fast ball pitchers....Im used to it thanks to Armando Benitez being with the mets...you dont know how many times ive seen games blown by himbecause he keeps pitching a lights out 98-99 mph fast ball all but to see hit yard and we lose the game......seems like something is wrong with all the good closers this year..Rivera, Street, and Wagner all blew their saves the past week...wondering when K-Rod will get knocked around this season to make it all the elite closers have early season blown saves..

i wish A's would trade that headcase zito, he's doing all this self=promoting by talking about each team and city he goes to. get a mulder/huson type deal, he wont be mised at all

Broussard's been hot lately... hopefully this doesn't fuck him up and put him on the DL like Hafner getting hit in the face last year. He said he was fine, but give it until tomorrow when it has time to possibly swell to see how Broussard feels.
he sounds like damon
haha you mean "demon"? i heard thats what some of the fans in beantown are calling for going to evil empire....atleast thats what some of my NEU buddies say...

The DETROIT TIGERS are tearing it up....I love it. We actually have GOOD pitching thus far. First time since maybe '84 ;)

Hopefully Chicago slips up a bit....they are due for a few injuries ;)
Doug Mirabelli is back, we're saved!
Knew I forgot to post something.

I didn't even look to see who was traded.

He just arrived at Fenway with a full police escort from the airport. He apparently changed into his uniform on the plane.

They were going to bring him in with a helicopter, but they either couldn't find a place to land close enough, or the hospital wouldn't let them use their helipad.

EDIT: He got dressed in the state trooper's SUV. I'm sure everyone was dying to know.

At first when I saw that they traded for him, I just assumed he'd be there tomorrow and they'd move Wakefield back a day. I wasn't expecting to see him there tonight. That was awesome.

Edit: It figures, I stop watching the game to take care of some stuff, and the Red Sox blow it open. Oh well, a win is a win. But a win over the Yankees, is icing on the cake.
And another great performance by Arroyo, complete game. Maybe seeing the Reds in July might actually mean something other than seeing some guys in their final days with the club. I just hope their pitching can stay like it is. They have the 2nd best record in baseball right now, only trailing the White Sox.
