Well of course you want to win, but even now, do I realistically think that the Tigers, as young and tired and inexperienced as they are can beat the Yankees, Twins, or Sox in a 5-7 game series? Hell no. The Twins are the only ones they even managed to have a winning record against during the regular season, and the playoffs are a whole different ballgame when we know we'd be going up against Santana as many times as they can pitch him.

With all that said, they'll probably get flack from fans and the media if they don't win the pennant.
Although, the Tigers do have the BEST pitching in baseball. They have had pretty good pitching during this streak. The hitting is the problem, but we should get Polanco back soon. Verlander has been GREAT though. I think experience is a bit over-rated. The RAIDERS should be great, they have Pro-Bowl older players... ;)

I feel they can hold the lead. Bonderman needs to get his act together as well. We may see Verlander pitching Game1 in the playoffs...if they make it :)
Liriano is done for the year. Sad to see, kid was money.
Yep, it's too bad. Hopefully he'll be fine next year. On the plus side Garza looked good in relief. Hopefully we can get Radke back, but Im not holding my breath.

Still don't think the tigers can win it all....they do have great pitching...but they k a lot, and that can hurt them against a team with decent pitching in the playoffs.

too bad about lirano

Yeah, I don't think Detroit can win it all...but when you are a Tiger slappy, you have wild dreams! They looked HORRIBLE again last night.

wow this thread has died...and so much has happend. im surprised no one posted about the 5 hr comeback in the Pads game.Best single game comback ever IMO. and finally the run is over for the braves...clinched NL east and now we need homefield.......

Thread really died because the Red Sox majority is done and so are my heartless no trying s.o.b. adopted Giants.

Yeah, this thread has definately slowed, probably because the Central is the only good race in the AL and their doesn't seem to be any White Sox fans here. Plus, the Detroit fans seem to be expecting a let down, so they don't want to talk about it.

Only 1/2 game for the Twins!

true..and ive only talked to 2 other mets fans here..surprised no Yankee fans showed up in this thread. Yeah i cant believe Verlander got blown up again. What i s wrong with tigers? did they just lose gas. Leyland needs to do something because the Twins right now deserve the central with the way they are playing.

Tigers took 2/3 from the White Sox. fuck yeah. That puts Chicago between a rock and a hard place and almost guarantees Detroit a playoff spot. Of course, if they don't win the division, they get to play the Yankees.

Yeah, Im not looking forward to having to go to NY. Hopefully the Tigers slip up a little bit more. I have a bad feeling about the Twins final series with the White Sox though.

I wouldn't want to be the Twins that last weekend. Especially if they are within a game or tied with the Tigers. As all the Tigers have to do is match them and they win the division and prepare to welcome Oakland, unless a late season collapse occurs and Anahiem (of La) takes over.

With that said, I pretty much gave up on this thread when the Red Sox started playing like a JV squad. It was nice to see the take 3/4 this weekend, but all too little, too late. And then there's the Reds, they had a terrible August as well. Both teams were at the top of their games, then August came about. And now they both will be sitting at home in October.

Yeah, Detroit looks like it's just trying to survive...although, they played GREAT against a White Sox team that NEEDED to win. 2 of 3 is GREAT. Pitching was once again decent, except Verlander slipped up...again. At least BOnderman is coming around...hopefully. The Gambler is pitching great too...amazing.

I know we are only up 1/2 game, so hopefully Minnesota slips up. NY is just HOT right now....so whoever has them in the first round should be interesting. Although, anything can happen.

Even schedules for the Tigers and Twins the rest of the season as well, should be extremely interesting. They both have series with the Orioles and Royals, with the Tigers also playing the Jays, and the Twins taking the Sox.

The AL is pretty much set with NY, Detroit, Minnesota and Oakland. The only thing up in the air is who is going to win the Central and who is going to get the wild card. The NL is a little more interesting because even though the Mets and Cardinals are in you've got the Dodgers, Padres and Phillies fighting for the last 2 spots. Hopefully the Dodgers get left out - they are a team that could go somewhere if they get hot.

Regardless of who wins the central, I just hope its decided before the last game. I wouldn't want to make the call of starting Santana in the last game to try to secure the Central and then not have him for the playoffs right away.

The Central very well could be decided by those pesky Royals.

Indeed. Tigers have Baltimore tonight, then KC, then Toronto, and then KC again. They should be able to win the division if they don't play like they did before the Baltimore series.
Tigers lost, but so did Minnesota. W000000000000000000T!!!!!
They seem deadset on making this a race to the end. Magic number is 10 with 9 games left. :D

In the newspaper today, it said 9 was the magic number.

Ah, it would be 9, I guess. Statistically to finish with a better record, the number is 10, but we have the head-to-head tiebreaker with Minnesota, so if we both win the rest of the season, the tie will go to us.

So, the Marlins are apparently going to fire Joe Girardi at the end of the season. This organization has done a bunch of boneheaded things, but this has to be one of the biggest. He took a team of Triple A players and turned them into Wild Card contenders, I don't get it.

It would be an even bigger smack in the face if they make it to the playoffs and manage to win it all. Not going to happen, the WS atleast, but that would be the biggest smack in the face.
Suprised nobody mentioned that the 2 writers that wrote "Game of Shadows" got sent to jail, good.
And soon enough Conte and Bonds.
And soon enough Conte and Bonds.
The only way Bonds can go to jail is through the "tax evasion" charge, the steroid situation he can't go to jail for, seeing as how his lawyers would plead that Sheffield, Giambi both got off scott free.

Conte should be the fucker going in, he's fucked with so many athletes.

If he testified in court, I forget he did, its perjury. I forget who all testified.

And wouldn't be ironic, if he were jailed after he hits 1 HR shy of Aaron.

that makes no sense but jeffery loira is still cut throat with that team. no one expected the marlins to be even in the hunt let alone be this good. they are going to be force to reckon with 2 years down the road with the core they have. i hope this is a rumour and not a fact. but i also think it has to do with the ballpark for some reason.

the game of shadows writers are sentence to 18 months but they arent going yet. the jury has to decide if they will still be going. thats sucks too because i think those guys are heroes because it caused MLB to have a stricter policy regarding steroid. oh well let the govt be one enforce stupid penalties because the two writers are keeping their promises to their sources.

 Hey, you get to play the Royals too, for a chance to overtake us in the division. But we get the Royals to finish off the year on a high note.

dam im so outnumbered. i would change it to the Mets finally win the NL east MLB Discussion 2006. where are you mets fans meaning javeryh and elcinodad..

The Twins have 7 games left, right? That means if they go 5-2, the Tigers only have to go 3-3 to clinch the division. Now, the Twins play Chicago at the end of the year, so I'd put good money on them losing at least one game against them. Of course, the Royals have an odd tendency to randomly beat great teams, so there's a real possibility the Twins could lose 1 in Minnesota. The Tigers play Toronto and then the Royals. They're gonna win AT LEAST 4 out of those 6 games, so Minnesota has to play nearly perfectly for the rest of the year.

Ah yes....what a weekend it was for the Tigers. Rather boring games, especially after a 10 run first inning. Wow, what a let down for any team to be down 10 runs without even taking an at-bat.

TIGERS IN THE PLAYOFFS!!!!!

Yeah, I dont think it likely that the Twins will overtake the Tigers. It would be nice if they did though.

Because if their's anyteam who should be in the title it should be the Yankees. No way the Tigers are getting out of the first round, even if they barely scrape by the A's, their's no way in hell their beating the Yanks' in the playoffs.

I see it as Phillies/Mets vs Yankees in WS. Phillies if their pitching holds up..

fuck you. They're the story of the season and one of the greatest things to happen to Detroit sports in years.

Not to mention after a horrible August/September, they're still a half game up on the Yanks and Mets for best record in the MLB.

Well looks like the Mets aren't getting 100. They must have gotten lazy after clinching.

I will be going to Home Game #2 at Shea Stadium for the NLDS. Long ride from MA but it will be oh so worth it.

Got MVP Baseball 2005 today. When I updated the rosters, the Tigers went from 15th to 4th best team in the game. Pwned.
fuck you. They're the story of the season and one of the greatest things to happen to Detroit sports in years.
In years? Are you fucking idiotic? How about the Pistons? Red Wings? Story of the year? yeah sure, if that makes you feel better while jerkin' it go ahead.

But if your not realizing, that you guys will probably be ousted by the Yanks seeing as how they have 1293082139123 times as much playoff experience then the Tigers do, your crazy.

ouch ima wings fan and that hurts. but on topic..I think the Tigers deserve it. Who would have thought they would even make it this far. Post Season is another story. with the momentum the Yanks have going in and with now Matsui and Sheffield back in the lineup fully healthy..it will not be at all easy to run over them. even guys like Scott Proctor are pitching well late into the season which makes it even harder. The Tigers are great but leyland needs to pull them out of their asses and make them start pounding people with the lineup they have. i know they are back on track...but once post season its a whole diferent story. i want to see leyland truly coach this team instead of having a loaded lineup like he had in Florida.if he can beat the Yanks than ill give a whole new respect to the Tigs.

Im jealous encindido! i cant even go to a playoff game this year with an overload of school and work. i just hope we come out safely as we are sputtering hard this late. im just hoping we get San Diego because i dont want to get hit by a hard knocking Nomar..

1. The Wings were good preceding their 2 cup wins.

2. The Pistons were becoming better every year leading up to their championship, and had one 2 chapionships about a decade earlier.

3. The Tigers have been awful since 1993, and have not played significant baseball since 1987. They were awful as recently as just last year, when they won less than 75 games.

4. There is no other story in baseball bigger than the Tigers this year, period. That is an indisputable fact.

5. No one gives a flying fuck about the Yankees beating them. They had a great season and it'll be remembered no matter what happens.
