Lost Planet - Discussion and Hype Thread - UPDATE: Map Pack #3 Free Aug. 16th.

The bonus CD on the limited edition wouldn't play anything on my Car CD player. I've got a fairly new panasonic CD player that is top of the line. This is strange, because I've played burned CD's before. It only read one track of music and just didn't make any music sound, only silence. Wierd.

The bonus disc is supposed to be used by PC only.

The sound tracks are already in mp3 formate and stored in one of the folder.
so, rip them, then burn them, THEN i get to listen to the soundtrack I bought? that is mildly annoying.
Well you gotta figure that its not a full on music CD, its got files full of artwork, videos, and such.

If you have Nero, all you need to do is using the create MP3 disc function, and add in the mp3 files, andburn it. Whole thing can be done in less than 10 minutes.
I actually find it convinent, since I don't need to rip them to mp3 to put into my mp3 player. ;)
SO the LE isn't worth it?
I don't see why not? The sound track alone should worth close to 10$ + the art book, and much better looking case.

Wow... the onlien kicks ass even though I don't know what the hell is going on half the time. The level design is insane for multiplay IMHO but rocks. Also, the leveling system is nice.

Am I the only guy here that feels like the game was animated by the same team responsible for Monster Hunter? the entire game feels like a mix of Battlefield and Monster Hunter... long and crazy.

That's the same vibe that I got from it... of course, it's much better than either of those games.

Pretty nice game. Definitely next-gen.

I haven't tried multi-player yet, however. Probably give it a spin after work.

I was able to pick up a copy of the game a day early at TRU.

The problem is I am out of the area for the weekend. I'll probably get a chance to play it sometime on Sunday. Woo.

I wasn't planning on picking this up, but they had it at rhino when I returned Dead Rising and decided why not.

I must admit the campaign so far is a bit better than I anticipated, even though it has that cop-out style mission layout. Game is beautiful though, and will definatly play some multi later.

edit: 0/5 with multiplayer games actually letting me do more than run a few steps. Gotta love connection problems. Taking a break as I am tired of spending 5 minutes in a room with 10 people all talking at each other with the high pitched mask on only to be disconnected.
There's enough people playing every map. So you don't have to worry about everyone being on the map you can't use.

There's a lot of Japanese players. A lot of my games end up being me with 15 Japanese guys.
This is very good news for the 360. I noticed that alot of the people playing the demo were from Japan also. Maybe the 360's doing better in Japan than we all thought.

Seems like that to me. It says waypoints, which I thought were those things you activate, but when I saved there and loaded, I started at the beginning of the mission.

There's invisible checkpoints in each level that it saves at. It's not those beacon things (which is what I thought at first too). Usually it's right before a boss or if you load a new area.

I just beat the first 2 levels. The bad reviews this game is getting are rediculous, this game is freakin great

can't wait to pick this up in a few days. The boss fights sound great.

umm...what bad reviews? just because it's not getting 10/10 from everybody, doesn't mean it's getting bad reviews

i might need to try this out sometime

6.5 from EGM/1up is pretty bad.

On Live, you asked me what I thought of the game.

The game is aight. Solid rental. Single player doesn't seem good enough to play through again (unless Capcom threw in some unlockables at the end that might make it more fun). Online is quirky, but fun, though there is no real strategy to it. Hard to go from GoW, to this. I don't see the online community moving to Lost Planet.

8.1 from Gamespot:

The Good: Massive bosses and thick swarms of enemies keep the action intense; large, varied stages; great-looking environments, effects, and creatures that don't cripple the frame rate; addictive multiplayer will keep you playing after you've finished the single-player game.

The Bad: The single-player game can easily be finished in seven or eight hours; scatterbrained story doesn't make much sense.

I hate when 7-8 hour single player modes are considered a bad thing. When you have school, work and other things, 8 hours is the perfect length for a single player mode.

agreed... I don't have time to play RPGs anymore cuz the damn length... I loved MGS3 snake eater partially due to the length even after beating it in two days. If it ran any longer, it would have killed my love for it too fast.

So far the pacing is great and online is something that will get better over time once people understand where is what and whatnot... I love the snow sleds since they can take you from point A to point B in no time with the risk of being knocked off :)

It's more of a value thing. $60 dollars for a game that someone gets 10 hours of enjoyment out of vs $60 for a game someone gets 80 hours of enjoyment out of.

I doubt there are many people buying this strictly for the single player mode. In fact, the only reason I bought it was for the online multiplayer because I loved the demo so much. I never even played the SP demo. I will easily get in the vicinity of 80 hours enjoyment from this if it is anything like the demo.

Yeah, I'm happy with this kinda length. And it's perfect for an action game since that way, the devs can avoid making the game feel repetitive and dragged out.

I picked a copy up today and so far I've gone about halfway through the single player. I've been pretty happy with the game so far, other than the story being totally psychotic.

It probably sounds weird, but to me it comes off as being somewhat retro- like a 3D Contra or something. You run around with these ridiculously powerful weapons and your character is nearly invulnerable as you blast through each level, then you get to a challenging boss fight and that sense of invulnerability goes away FAST.

Near the end of the game... it gets pretty insane later on as there's so many explosions and rockets whizzing by that you can't see a thing. Friggin awsome and a nice breath of fresh air since this is one of the very few Japanese shooters we'll see in a while.

..it came out today and people are already beating it? Glad I didn't pick it up.. used copies should be everywhere soon in my town.. lots of people attend the local university where there's no XBox Live play.

I did play a little of it tonight and had quite a blast with it, one question though. One area, when I was outside, had water. Not just a tiny bit, but like a freakin' lake that I could jump in/around.

What the fuck? I thought it was supposed to be like a million degrees below zero and whatnot.

The problem with those 80 hour epics that everyone seems to want is that very few of them are worth playing. Games like the latest suikodens, all those tales games, the Shin Megamis, and NIS TRPGS are just a big yawnfest for me. I'll admit I enjoy the final fantasies, and some of the Suikoden games.. and KOTOR/Jade Empire and such are totally worth it.

They may last 5 times as long, but it doesn't mean crap if those 80 hours bore me to death. I'd rather see quality over quantity.

Games like MGS3 nail it right on the head. Ends right when it should, without fetch quests, and drawn out battles, and repetitive segments..

totally agree, and that's why i love Gears so much. It didn't feel short for me because I was having so much fun with it. Glad to hear this game isn't too short or too long. I'm totally going to have to pick this up somehow! I liked the demo alot too.
The reviews aren't great. Is this game worth $60. How about the CE is it worth trying to get that?
Looking at what sites like Gamespot and IGN said in their review, it's definitely worth buying. The single player might be short, but so far, it's really, really fun. Definitely seems like the kind of game that you'd want to play through again. Of course, this ignores the entire multiplayer mode.

As for the CE, it's prolly not worth picking up unless you really want a bonus disc for the game.

Do you think the exclusive map will ever become available? THose who have it is it a really good map?

THe thing is I have so many games I am prepared to be buying.

Bah, that's not that many games. If you really have to, switch Crackdown with this... I mean, that game looks like it's got some interesting concepts, but it's never looked anywhere near polished...

I don't want Crackdown for the beta (though it makes it an incentive ;) ). I think I'll just suck it up and buy this game today. I know its not many games but I am just 16 and haven't got a job yet (I need to get on that). Do you think this will drop to $40 (on sale) like vegas did so quickly?

It'll probably drop by $10 or $20 as quickly as Dead Rising did... not sure how that worked out since I bought that right away too...

im really on the fence with this, i was VERY amped on this game but the lack of offline mp is a killer. i have it preordered and there arent any other games i plan on gettign until march/april so im leanign towards pickign it up but the mp is brutal.
ill be deploying soon and will primarily be playing offline mp games for 6 months.

If you're that strapped for cash, get the $25 back that you put down on Halo 3 and use it towards this...there's no reason to "rob" yourself of $25 for a game that is more than 10 months away and will be WIDELY available at release.

I didn't like the demos that much, but I was able to pick this up for $48 (inside-man retail hookup) and I'm enjoying it...hell, there's nothing else coming out for a month and my 360 is hungry!

I have a feeling the $100 legendary edition (the one that requires $25 down for preorder) will be IMPOSSIBLE to find when Halo 3 hits store shelves. I want to find a deal on this game...

My bad...didn't know that it was for the "helmet" edition...there probably will be a limited run on those (although paying $100 for ANY game in 2007 is insane, IMO, but that's a discussion for another thread/time).

The map will be free on the marketplace, but not for some time.

This game is not worth owning though. You can enjoy it with a rental. The single player is very short and unless you really, really, really LOVED the multiplayer demo, it's not going to keep your attention. Don't get caught up in the hype.

Microsoft and Bungie aren't stupid. There's a reason you saw the LE of Halo 2 just as widely available as the regular edition at launch. They're going to give you plenty of oppurtunity to buy the most expensive version of the game.

Here ya go!
Could someeone kindly link me to the post containing the pics for the LE? Thank you.
