Madden 09 - Gen. Discussion & Info

Many teams in the NFL use a similar offensive scheme, like the West Coast Offense, for example. There may be slight variations but many are similar. It also matters who the off/def coordinators are and who they worked for in the past. That also determines what schemes they use.
 
I noticed before the snap and after there are no names on the back of the players jerseys at all its just the number is there a reason for this??? Anyone else having this problem???



I got my game yesterday and finally got a chance to play late last night and I must say visually the game looks great. But I have some serious issues with how badly this game glitches with the endzone celabrations. I got achievements on botched endzone celebrations?? I ran to the wall to do a celebration and the guy fell off the wall and it cut to a different scene right away. The next time I went to the goal post and the guy didn't do anything but jump and it then panned over to the replay of the play. I was sitting there like wtf. Is there glitches all over the endzone celebrations is anyone else having these problems???? I mean its extremely frustrating that no matter what I have only got the endzone dances to work 1 time. Is there a time limit on when you have to get to the spot or something??? Anyone help is appreciated.

Because I never got that and I started a Vikings franchise and Favre wasn't on the Jets or Packers.

You have to enter into a ranked game and the rosters will automatically download in the pre-game lobby like the last couple versions of Madden.

I can see players' names on their jerseys prior o the snap, and I have never had an end zone celebration glitch.

Thanks, I've got a couple 48 codes. I'll probably wait to get the update until after the season starts.
 
Is there a way to check the wind direction in the play selection screen? I'm taking a break from the game and don't wanna check myself, but it seems there's no indicator until you're actually lined up to kick.
 
If anybody here is interested in joining a Madden League, the Chiefs team dropped out, so if anybody wants to be the Chiefs, join the fray!
 
I'm surprised that EA hasn't changed the AI's routine to always call a timeout with 10 seconds left in the half when they're in FG range. Why not call a TO at 3 seconds so I can't make a play at the end of the half?
 
Is it me or does the safeties not react to an open runner coming up his alley? I had Julius Jones charging both of my safeties but they are still playing the zone and not pursuing the runner. Another thing they need to fix is the starting line up pictures. While playing a Cowboys Franchise Zach Thomas is out for the season and his picture is not replaced with the 2nd stringer. This also happens with other teams too.
 
Is anyone else having connection issues when playing online games? I've been disconnected in the first quarter in my last three games. It's really annoying as this year I actually want to play online more but it doesn't seem to work for me...what the HELL?

Sorry to say my friend, but it seems to be your connection. You and I were d/c'ed in the 1st quarter those 2 times, but I played 3 games last night and they were lag-free and finished no problem.
 
After a game is over, you can go to the EA Sports Highlights. You have to "create" your highlight there, by choosing a play and camera view. Once you do that, visit your highlights in the main screen, and select. There should be an option for you to upload your highlight online. You might have to go through a EA Sportsworld registration page if you haven't gone through it already. It will then encode the video, then upload it.

Go to the EA Sportworld page online, login, and it should be sitting there waiting for you to watch it. =p

I can connect fine with no lag to other people, and it just disconnects at the same time during every game? My connection is fine with every other game. I've configured all of my stuff, I fixed this problem a LONG time ago so that shouldn't be the issue.

Also if it was my connection why would the other player get disconnected and not get the option to continue the game against the computer? If it was my connection why wouldn't I receive something in the DNF category? If it was my connections why does everything else work fine? I don't know but this is really annoying, it worked fine the first few times I played, looks like I might never get a win online if this keeps up.

Am I the only one having a hell of a time with running in the game? Most every skill has jumped up to All-Madden for me, but I'm still on Pro and it goes down a bit every game, but the AI doesn't seem to let up. They're always in the backfield at the handoff.

Running...? You can run in this game? I made custom sliders and put run blocking at about 65 and have some success with the TEXANS...ugh. What team are you using?
 
I've got my run offense bar totally full, but I still have yet to rush for 100 yards in a game. I'm not talking about one guy, either. I mean as a team.

How many games have you guys played in your franchises? I'm still undefeated, online and off, and I've finished 7 games of my first regular season. I also played all 4 preseason games. In contrast, in Madden 08, I didn't finish a season until a couple months after I bought the game.

Also, why is it that I can beat the Cowboys 35-7 and the Colts 21-3, but I barely scraped by the Lions 29-26 in overtime, and nipped the Falcons 11-10?

I've played four games thus far and have only managed a little over 100 yards total in those four games, while I have over 800 yards passing with a nearly full bar. And my playcalling shows I'm 45/55 run to pass ratio, so it's not like I'm not trying to run. I think the best run I've had was a 16 yard gain.

Then again, I always used to play and keep it at Pro to run up the score. I love the offensive side of the game and rolling up on teams.

My guess is because you are using Madden IQ and the "MySkill" setting, which in my eyes doesn't work. Hey you just tore up the Colts secondary, we are now going to make your qb accuracy 0 so you can't pass on the Falcons... Just a guess but what do I know.
 
I love Madden. I got hooked on the game about 10 years ago. I've given GameDay, NFL 2K_, and other games a shot but I always came back to Madden.

That said, this year's game is a huge disappointment to me. It's like they decided to mate GameDay and NFL 2K5 and this is the bastard child they produced. The newer upbeat style and tempo doesn't do anything for me at all, and wide receivers running directly out of bounds with 10 yards of open field is inexcusable. Not to mention playing on D with the faster tempo is a pain in the ass. The franchise mode hasn't seen many changes or updates either.

I was really looking forward to this year's Madden, but now it looks like I'll be heading back to NCAA Football 2009, which gets my vote for the best football game of the year.

Faster tempo? Please explain, the game seems much slower to me. I'm in the same boat as you though I'm not too fond of the game right now, pretty much for the opposite reason. It just seems like the art that comes up in between plays slows the game down. I like you will probably be headed back to NCAA.

It just seems the game on the field is much faster than last year (and any year prior), where as in the past the game was slower and a bit more methodical. It's much more noticeable for me on defense. Granted, speed is more of a perception factor than anything since it will vary from person to person, but to me it just seems like Madden 2008 Turbo Edition w/even more questionable A.I. The player models do look real nice though.
 
I bought the Madden CE the night the game came out but then had second thoughts on actually opening it up. I've been reading what others think about the game and while there are some who say positive things about it, I'm mostly hearing nothing but negatives. I've decided I'm just going to return the game and buy NHL & FIFA 09. It's starting to look like the only good EA sports games are the ones EA has competition with.

Right now Blitz: The League 2 is looking like it'll be my football game this year.

You will regret this for the rest of your life. Blitz: TL was good, but had little replay value. Madden 09 is the best football game ever. WE MUST PLAY PACKERS VS. BEARS!

I really want to play Bears vs Packers with you, but I just can't talk myself into opening the game up.
 
I've been very pleased with the game so far but take that for what you will considering I haven't bought a football game since ESPN 2k5 came out. I'm not sure I understand what up-tempo things captain frizo is referring to unless he's talking about the speed on defense. I hardly have time to make any adjustments. Other than that, the game goes at a generously slow pace. I have been frustrated when receivers at times go out of bounds in the flat. Overall, those are very small grievances within a great game.

I don't know about being "the best football game ever", but this one is damn good. It's certainly the best Madden of this console generation (which, I know, isn't saying much). I really have little to complain about outside of how incredibly difficult it is to run, but then again, having it set me on All-Madden is a far cry from my usual Pro with adjusted sliders.

The animations are freaking awesome and I could safely say it's the best looking football game ever.

Yeah, it's a good game. It's really starting to grow on me. This game is damn hard, I raped people online last year and the computer as well. Offense is extremely hard this year, and it's REALLY hard to run. However I've made a nice set of sliders and I tested them out with a wide range of teams and it seems to work. I can run well with the Vikings and Patriots and teams like that but the Texans, it's just not happening. You really have to switch up your plays this year as well.

Also the patch seems to have fixed my online troubles, so if anyone ever wants to play a game send me an invite or let me know. I'm usually on because I have no life, I wonder how long it'll be before I get fat?
 
Are CBs slower in the game as well? I know Indy doesn't have any speedsters at CB, but I've had a few interceptions where I was running down the sideline and got caught by the QB. I'm pretty sure Marlin Jackson could outrun Chris Redman. I was holding down the RT as well, but maybe it's just the animation that's throwing me off (plus it really bothers me how the DBs hold the ball out with one hand while running in the clear).

Another case, I had Dallas Clark run free in the flat only to be caught by a second-rate DB. I've seen this guy outrun speedsters at DB in live game-action.

I have never played Madden 2005 or NCAA 2006. Madden 08, you can make an argument for as it was the best prior to the release of 09, but I feel that 09 has improved on just about everything from 08. 2K5, I loved when it came out, but the last 2 iterations of Madden blow 2K5 out of the water. Seriously, go back and play it sometime. Nostalgia can cloud one's judgment.

Anyhoo, now that you apparently don't get d/c'ed during games, we should play.

Madden o5 and Ncaa 06 were awesome. If those had updated graphics and rosters I'd be playing those instead.
 
I disagree, the last two Maddens were disappointments as they attempted to make the next step in the nextgen consoles. This year, it's much more polished as they finally solved some, not all, of the major, but little, problems. Only thing they need to retool is Franchise mode and put back Owner mode, but I heard that's already being solved in 2010, as they put the Head Coach director to lead that feature.

To be fair, I also have only played about 16-18 games of this year's Madden. I'm not going to play only a few games and judge it as a whole with the little time I've had with it. This could very well end up being my favorite, but as of now it's not.
