Texans Draft Report
1st Round: Tercel Kiner, SS (Florida) 80 OVR, A-Pot, 92 Spd, 91 Acc, 95 Jmp, 93 Hit Power.
Was looking for a guy that would add the speed needed in the back end to replace Glover Quinn (the slowest player in my secondary). Didn't really scout this guy but I couldn't pass him up with how important safeties are to my play style on D. He allows me to put Daniel Manning at SS and use his skills exclusively @ Free. Kiner has amazing range and came up big in his first game (2 picks, 5 tackles and a number of pass break-ups).
2nd Round: Cal White, C (LA Tech) 76 OVR, B-Pot, 87 Str, 75 Pbk, 75 Rbk
Still working on solidifying the weakest unit on the squad. My Center is aging and I was targeting interior lineman for most of the draft and I consider this pick a huge success, pick 25 in the 2nd. Great value, Center for the future.
3rd Round (from Bucs): Dondi Hardaway, CB (Michigan) 72 Ovr, C-Pot, 95 Spd, 99 Jmp, 80 Mcv
Great athlete that the staff is hoping develops into a solid slot corner and possibly return guy. He has the raw tools but needs to work on his football IQ. Another good value pick.
3rd Round: Clay Harris, QB (Weber State) 74 Ovr, B-Pot, 95 Throw Power, 87 TAM, 89 TAD
The Texans are hoping they've gotten the QB of the future. @ 6'4", 227 Lbs he has the physical stature we were looking for. The kid possesses an excellent deep and intermediate game and runs play action really well. He's already physically better than Schaub, but he will sit and learn behind the vet for at least this season (barring injury) hopefully his awareness and short throwing increase.
4th Round: L.C. Simmons, ROLB (NW Missouri State) 68 OVR, C-Pot, 90 Spd, 93 Hit Power, 77 Block Shedding
Small school kid with freakish athleticism for a 250 pounder. Looking for him to develop into an excellent third down linebacker (rushing the passer and covering TE's) and contribute on special teams immediately.
5th Round: Sharif Peters, HB (Central Conn. State), 67 OVR, C-Pot, 95 Spd, 88 Agi, 93 Acc,
Derrick Ward's replacement (3rd RB) and my new kick returner.
6th Round: Lunior Andry, LOLB (LSU), 64 OVR, D-Pot, 87 Spd, 85 Str, 86 Agi, 88 Acc
Another 3rd down, pass rush/coverage specialist, will be a great special teamer until he develops enough to contribute in sub packages.
7th Round: P.J. Charles, TE (Miami (OH) Univer.) 64 OVR, D-Pot, 74 Rbk
Needed an in-line TE that could primarily run-block, one of two guys I targeted during scouting, it was nice to get him in the 7th.
I am very happy with the way the draft went for me. Got some really good players at the top (1 A-pot (impact player) 2-B pot, one of which is my future franchise QB (I hope) and I got some solid special teams players and really good athletes.
