Denver Broncos 26 - Kansas City Chiefs 20 (OT)
For three quarters this looked like a Denver romp, as they did whatever they want on offense and stymied the Chiefs completely. Then through a combination of bizarre blown coverages (we're talking a guy catching a ball in the middle of the field with no one within 15 yards and running unmolested for a TD), onside kick recoveries, and defensive penalties the Chiefs put up 14 points to tie in what seemed like about 15 seconds. They almost won too when a late pass from Osweiler in regulation bounced right off the db's hands for what probably would have been a pick six. Getting the ball in OT, the Chiefs looked prime to continue the comeback but the Broncos D remembered how to play just in time. A shanked punt and two McFadden carries later and the Broncos escaped with a win.
Osweiler was 9 of 16 for 227 yards, 2 TDs and 0 INTs. He's quietly having an excellent season.
Weeden threw
much more in this game than the last one, going 10 of 20 for 194 yards, 2 TDs and 1 INT.
McFadden had 15 carries for 93 yards and a TD. McGahee only had 3 for 9, and now that I have McFadden's carry up to 99, no longer saw as many of the late-game carries as he typically does.
Charles was absolutely stymied in this one, carrying 11 times for 21 yards. After his
huge game last time, it was quite a reversal of fortunes. Weeden was actually the leading rusher with 1 carry for 21 yards, which followed on Von Miller somehow whiffing on him (which happened several times in this game).
Vincent Jackson caught 3 balls for 106, while Eric Decker caught 3 for 80 and 2 TDs (his first two on the season I believe). The Broncos definitely missed the presence of Julius Thomas, as neither Dreessen nor Mulligan could really provide the same receiving threat from the TE spot.
Deon Butler lead the Chiefs with his one catch for a 76 yard TD. A truly bizarre play, I've never seen my defense blow a coverage that badly. Can't wait to see the highlight on that one. Dexter McCluster had the other TD.
Two more sacks for Jaron Archer, bringing his season total to 10. I switched him and Dumervil's spots in this game, and Dumervil had a sack as well, so that may be a permanent change. Champ Bailey had a pick in this one as well. A rare quiet game for Von Miller, who registered only one tackle and seemed to whiff on Weeden about a half dozen times (I think I know why...)
The Chiefs got a sack from Darien Alves, which was their only counting stat of the game.

gg staticz! Glad I could salvage the series split.
I do have a theory about why my pass rush wasn't as sharp as usual: I was a bit tipsy when we started this one, and for some reason decided to drink another two beers during the game (that was why I kept pausing... had to piss). I wouldn't completely attribute the comeback to that, but Miller certainly has a right to be pissed at me. Don't drink and Madden, kids.
Broncos move to 11-2 on the season, and essentially wrap up the AFC West. I'm not sure if they've mathematically clinched, I'd have to check the tiebreakers, but it's as good as done. Nice to get back on top after settling for the wild card last season.
