There is a ton of freebies, don't get me wrong... when you finish the unlockable cups and the cc's, it gives you stuff.
But for the people who want to get real good at the game, Nintendo has given those people some stuff too.
I like the fact they have finally struck a balance, because most Nintendo games are piss easy to complete.

I think the point is that they are trying to come up with a balance in this game for both the younger generations with stuff already unlocked, and for us older generations where it's good to have good challenges that are not just kid like. It's very good of Nintendo to do this. Brawl seems like the kids can own that game and the unlockables are too easy to obtain. I like the balance they did here in Maro Kart for Wii. The new tracks are very very awesome, got to play a few online and I really loved that roller coaster one, what a wild ride. The ice one is soo hard.
Hmmm... Well, I don't agree. I think Brawl had fantastic balance with the ability to unlock the characters and stages
fairly easily (though a few were challenging enough IMO). yet to unlock every last "challenge" trophy is damn near impossible. So there's plenty of challenge for the hardcore there, but it is in an area that only completionists care about so it doesn't get in the way of enjoying the game. If the karts and, particularly, the characters, are near impossible to unlock in Mario Kart I'll be pretty disappointed.
Of couse I have yet to really play it much so I'll have to see just how challenging this stuff is
