Marvel vs. Capcom 3 discussion thread

Square gate>Octo gate
So Akuma has an infinite. I'm guessing most online teams will be Akuma/Akuma/Sentinel now.

Certainly not the first I've heard of it. I'm not that concerned, as the type of person actively looking for info on forums and fighting game websites about this game probably already possess the skills to crush me. If they aren't, that's why I have Ammy in my lineup.

Had a lot of interesting matches tonight...encountered a fighter rank player with a 18-0 record who absolutely crushed me, whereas earlier I was able to take down a 180-20 6th Lord...encountered one game that was laggy as hell, to the point where Ammy ended up going through their character during her combos. I'm hoping it was just lag, and not some kid with a hacked ps3.

I'm not even good at this game and I know this is a ridiculous statement.

Somehow did Phoenix's #6 this morning on my first try randomly. It just sorta happened.

I still can't do Chris' #4, Dormy's #4 or Spider-Man's #3.

I also still can't connect to anyone online. They REALLY need to fix the netcode.

I discovered a near infinite with Magneto. It could possibly be an infinite and I'm just not fast enough on it, but its an aerial combo that traps them on the wall of the screen.
Thats neat, but that's not even close to being as memorable as Daigo's SF3 comeback.
I'm not sure you realize how much of a deficit 1v3 at Marvel2 is. Most tournament players would have considered the match over. Cyclops isn't even Justin's heavy hitter by any stretch of the imagination. It's a pretty big deal. Probably not quite as clutch a moment as Daigo's, but damn close.

Just got back to this game after messing around with DA:O and the DA II demo. Finally got around to competing Thor's #10 mission (deceptively strict timing... oh my god) to finish his off then I'm moving onto She-Hulk and Doom. I loathe precise assist timing with a passion.

JUST CONNECT WITH THE GOD DAMN WAVE ALREADY SO I CAN CLOTHESLINE A BITCH, BRUCE! I WANT MY 360 COMPLETED MISSIONS ACHIEVEMENT ALREADY. :joystick:

The only good news is I've grown much more comfortable with the Runner's Start command and learned most of the cancels into it. Better than nothing I guess.

There's apparently a patch out on PS3/coming to 360 soon, but it's probably just DLC prep.

Unless Capcom fixes the online soon I'm going to be done with this game. I cannot connect to ANYONE via Custom Search or Arcade/Training Search. The netcode is just.that.bad. I have no problem finding anyone in other online games, including SF4 and SSF4.

I'm pretty sure it was just DLC prep. Only thing I noticed different after the patch was it said checking downloaded content and it didn't say that before.

I'm actually hoping the DLC characters (all 4 of them when they arrive) do count towards the mission achievement and round it out to 8 missions per character needed to finish, because I have a hard time with any mission after 8 - and even 8 can be a pain in the ass.

I heard the new characters will come with 10 missions so I don't see why not.

I consider myself lucky if I manage to get 6 missions down for a character. Some of those combos just suck on a normal controller (and I don't play nearly enough fighting games to justify buying a proper fighting stick). In particular, missions that require me to go from a crouching hit into a forward-down-downforward + atk special always result in me just doing the qcf + atk special (Thor, I'm looking in your direction).

Why wouldn't the new Character's missions count towards the mission count? If they get their own achievements for their missions, Capcom might not allow the double-dipping.
You completely whooped my ass.
Still, good game. It was just one match anyway. ;)

Isn't the achievement to complete 320 Missions? There are 360 Missions available (not including DLC) which would require you to complete 88.8%. Or is that a typo in the achievement?

Yeah so right now 9 x 36 = 324. Right now you gota do about 9 missions per characters, and you can skip the 9th on 4 characters if you look at it that way.

So throw in another 40 missions with all 4 DLC characters (assuming the hackers were right, Doc Oct, Frank West along with Jill and the tentacle d00d) that brings it to 400. So if you do all the character missions and the DLC characters missions it would be 80%... or 8 missions per character needed to get the achievement. Believe me finishing 8 missions with everyone is a lot better then 9 lol.

Does that make sense to you?

Yeah, that makes sense. I feel like Capcom could go either way on the DLC characters' Missions counting towards the totals. It depends on how they handle it (add it to the current menu or have a separate DLC menu). BlazBlue's DLC character missions DO count towards the totals, so maybe they'll follow suit.

Also, where's the information about Doc Ock? Last I checked people were claiming it to be Frank West and Electra.
Also, where's the information about Doc Ock? Last I checked people were claiming it to be Frank West and Electra.
All that was found were some references to Frank West and Doc Ock in the code...no assets of any kind, just a reference...could mean that they're planned for future DLC, or could just mean that they were planned to be in the game at some point, but got scrapped. We know that Frank was such a case...planned to be in the game, to the point where they were figuring out how to fit him into one of the trailers...but problems with the nature of his moves (something like too many zombies screwed up the performance) led to him getting cut.

I'd dig up the source, but that's about the entire story.

Excuses, excuses. They didn't put in Ghost Rider because they said there wasn't enough RAM to have him on his bike the whole time.

Less zombies, no bike. Look at that. They should hire me.

I'd think the larger problem with Ghost Rider is that the game already has a flaming skull-head who dresses all in black and uses flames in some of his attacks.

And if the Wii version of Dead Rising taught us anything, it's that less zombies is never a fix.

The Haters, They Hate.

I honestly can't believe the amount of bitching for the inclusion of Mr. Wright (who hasn't even been confirmed yet). Considering all the off-the-wall cases and characters introduced throughout the Ace Attorney series a move list would be child's play for Capcom to create. I'll keep my fingers crossed for Team Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.

I'd love for a MvC1 Ryu type of class/personality change where he could switch from those early suit and tie "OBJECTION!" days to the more recent fallen from grace incarnation prevalent in the Apollo game. I always adored his skull cap and don't give a f*ck attitude.

If you played DMC3 and Okami you know that Dante and Amaterasu use the same moves in MvC3. I like Phoenix Wright but it will be hard for him to be in a fighting game

You could say the same about all the people that DO want him.

I'm personally against him going in there. They could put in much better characters. Gene or Vergil for example.

I love the amount of care and nurturing that went into character moves. I love being able to identify all of Dante's attacks, simpler ones like stinger and prop shredder to other stuff like helmbreaker. Every Capcom character has all of their moves. Even in the way character's like Wesker WALK you can see the game influence.

The victory quotes are amazing too.

Iron Man: (To Doom) I still haven't forgotten what happened at Camelot.

Pretty awesome, especially since DoomQuest is my favorite Iron Man arc. This is little thing that long time fans will catch. Love the amount of attention they put into things like that

A buddy of mine picked up MvC3 the other day, but he has an SDTV and we didn't know that they made the game in HDTV resolution or whatever the hell they do that puts the huge black bars on the top and bottom of the screen, making everything small. They really need to stop doing that, or at least put in an option to switch between the two.

He got such a headache from the thing that he brought the game back. I'm glad I have an HDTV so I don't have to deal with that, but a lot of people still use SDTVs. Is there any way to fix that, or at least make it more tolerable? Don't want him to not buy games in the future with me because he can't see jack shit when he plays em.

By the way, who's X-23? I know she's related to Wolverine with the adamantium claws and everything, but apparently she's a clone?

I still don't get how to use She-Hulk. When she's on my team, I mostly just end up doing Running Start and that bicycle kick. Not really sure how to combine anything else.

I've picked up Hulk and been subbing him for Mags on my main team (Skrull/Hulk/Sent). I might switch Skrull over to Smite for some relaunch potential, I'll have to play around with it. All I know is any combo that ends in Inferno in the corner DHCs into the full Gamma Crush for stupid damage.

She's the Harley Quinn of the Marvel universe. They made her for one of the cartoons and fans liked her so much that they added her to the comics. She was cloned from a "damaged cell" from Wolverine in the Weapon X program.

hopefully they archive the matches on youtube, if they do definitely check em out

I really, really hope they give some sort of option to either let me turn the time to Infinity for my own personal lobbies or put it some sort of Private Match mode where I can turn the time to Infinity. I want to play the game with my buddies online and win by actually beating them. Is that too much to ask?
 At the latest Wednesday Night Fight stream on justin.tv, they added a "Sentinel Tax" of an extra $5 entry fee into the tournament if Sentinel is a part of your team.

Also, good stream with Justin rocking She-Hulk:

A Youtube mirror would be nice, but the link above does have the stream archive, which is pretty clear.

omg i cant move my hands, i just got 3 wins in a row, surviving on my LAST guy in EACH. its a great feeling losing 2 of your guys and then still winning

damn no theater mode
There weren't any black bars on the top and bottom? It was fullscreen? Well shit, I wonder what's wrong then.
I'm using an SDTV and I have the black bars too, it's a 36", and it's tolerable.

Also I found some extremely frustrating combos that people have been using on me (inescapable). He hit me once with a sentinel attack, did rocket punch, did another one once my body bounced off the ground, did his super, launched me into the air, did another one. 75% of my health gone right there on an undodgeable combo.

I hate people who rely on one combo. As soon as I get hit once, I'm f****d.

Same thing with the way he used Dormammu. Launched me back with
