Marvel vs. Capcom 3 discussion thread

So much negativity! I think the biggest thing to grasp going from SSFIV to MvC3 is how to punish things. In SSFIV, very few moves are safe, so there are easy punishes. It's a much more defense oriented game, with EX moves, FADCs, reversals, invincible startup ultras, supers to punish on reaction... Even a rushdown character has defensive options available to them.

In MvC3, so many things are safe on block, can be MADE safe with assists, or trade with other moves. Most SSFIV players are afraid of pressing buttons, but in MvC3 you're either pressing buttons or blocking a series of mixups. The one defensive advantage you have over MvC3 is Advancing Guard, but a lot of people don't do this as often as they should... or do it TOO often... Advance Guarding a punishable move, and making it safe for their opponent.

I think that maybe once Capcom rolls around Spectator Mode things will perk up a bit. tl;dr: press more buttons (except against Hulk and Sentinel), and be able to take advantage of each hit. I think the game just hasn't clicked for you, Tom... but if you give it time, it will.

I'm looking forward to AE as well, but be prepared for an army of Yuns.

I have a pretty good understanding of the game and can do very well against scrubs but lose to anyone that knows what they're doing. A lot of the times it's a "WTF just happened?" kind of thing. The lack of spectator is what really bums me out because I can't see how other people are playing and try to devise strats. I just need to keep playing more.

I can totally relate to Gootecks watching The Marvelous Adventures of Gootecks & Mike Ross.

Kix Berry Sentinel is the best Sentinel. Just sayin.

I might hop on tonight. I have some stuff I need to do so we'll see after that.
Kix Berry Sentinel is the best Sentinel. Just sayin.
I actually like the black and grey one the best. There needs to be a blue and white Sentinel. I would play him on point, b/c he would be my University of Kentucky-themed Sent and thus be awesome.

The game's over, so I'm hopping on now Guard, if you're on.

this is my friends strategy and it pisses me off

i kill his first two guys and all he has left is magneto

him as magneto

x-factor
block
grab into super
super (causing me to go all the way to other side of screen)
energy beam
super
energy beam
block
grab
super
block
grab

i decided to use sentinel and this worked for about 20 matches, BUT then he learned to block, not to mention sentinel got nerfed which doesn't bother me except in this situation and my attacks do nothing since he is in x-factor and blocking ( I SAVED MY X-FACTOR and supers only to no avail)

maybe i can bring him into the lobby wednesday

decided to play some ranked and playing in practice finds people FAST.

from playing my 8 matchs or so i can see people have high priority into putting there opponent into a state of GOD DAMMIT I CANT DO ANYTHING

i finally was winning a match but the guy kept pulling his people in and out every time i got a hit it in,

one more hit an i was dead. i did my super as durmorru(SP) and it killed is second guy and when his third guy came in it automatically started hitting him and it killed him HOLY fuck

he kept playing hipityhop and then hitting me when i was "open"

i have 13 wins why the fuck did it pair me against a guy with 600
They charging for the 2nd batch of Shadow Battle DLC. Oh brother. It's only a dollar though. But still...
Yeah, I'm rather disappointed in Capcom, charging for AI? Really? The $5.00 per DLC characters not enough? or were their sales so poor you need to make it up every chance you get? Egad man, come on Capcom don't be that guy.

I think you just need to learn to block and evade. If he's on the opposite side of the screen spamming shit with Level 3 X-Factor, then super jump to dodge and don't approach him. Wait for his X-Factor to run out before going up to him. Don't use X-Factor until you have your last character because the effect is stronger and it lasts longer.

Remember that when you're in X-Factor, you don't take chip damage. It's as good when used defensively as it is offensively. Once his X-Factor runs out, you can simply chip him to death with X-Factor'd supers.

Two new events were released in Event mode today, one making Arcade mode 1v1, and the second, 2v2. I wrote up a detailed description in this thread on X360achievements.com, but basically, I think it makes beating Arcade mode on Very Hard pretty easy (for the achievement), if you haven't already.

It also unlocks the character-specific titles, so it could be a good way to unlock those and the Arcade endings.

Hmm....

The MVC3 line up that will be added via DLC later this year:

From Marvel: Dr. Octopus, Juggernaut, Elektra, Iceman, Apocalypse, Thanos, and Ms. Marvel

From Capcom: Frank West, MegamanX, Phoenix Wright, Gene (from God hand), Talbain (Darkstalkers), Gail (Dino Crisis), and Strider.

It's also stated that a new stage will be added as DLC with a setting in a court room a la Phoenix Wright. Apparently some of these characters will be announced and shown at Captivate next week.

Last, and not least, a new version of the game will be release next year that will include all the DLC characters and stages into one final package.

All this came from Lupinko. The same guys who leaked info about SSF4, MVC3 and Mortal Kombat and all turned true. So RUMOR or not, it sounds COOL!!!

I'm surprised the Human Torch isn't coming from the Marvel side all things considered. Ms. Marvel without Captain Commando makes no sense (Marvel vs. Capcom HURR).

I'm not surprised about the final package release...at all. Hopefully they fix the online by then.

14 new characters, at $5 a piece (as was Jill and Shuma's pricing)...half tempted to sell my copy now while the selling's good and wait for the complete pack.

Phoenix Wright! You'll get no objection from me... But seriously, that's insane to have so many DLC characters. Wouldn't be half as bad if it was 2 characters for 5 (ie, 1 Marvel 1 Capcom) Totally going to wait for "Super Marvel Vs. Capcom 3" to come out.

Ugh, I still need to sell/trade away my Xbox 360 regular edition. (I got the CE a couple days after the standard.)

Human torch is dead in the comics, and if i remember right capcom doesnt want to use any characters that are dead in the marvel universe atm (except for pheonix I guess)

I'm pretty sure Capcom lists her as alive in her bio, right? They probably want us to pay a dollar to correct that.

I want all those characters, but don't want to spend 70.00 (actually 80, I don't have Jill and Shuma) but I also don't want to wait for a year to get the whole game for 40-60.00

Yeah that's what I think I am going to do as well. Why should I keep a game when they add 16 more characters.

After this I am done paying full price for half made games. This dlc shit is getting outta hand.

I wouldn't go around selling your copies yet. I spent a wee bit too much time referencing this, and it seems very false. I can find no post by Lupinko (the supposed source of this info) making these claims. I did find references to some comments made by "a" Lupinko that have since been destroyed, once it was found out that the account did not belong to "the" Lupinko. Lupinko himself claimed the account was not his.

That leaves us with nothing more than a prank. While I'm kind of saddened it isn't true, my wallet sure as hell ain't.

Talbin but no Jehdah...., I don't believe this list because to many people you want are on it.:nottalking:

HA, destroyed my friends magneto strategy. won 40 out of 60, and 10 of his wins were his brother using sentinel and dorumma(sp) spam.

my friend had to resort to loops/infinites in order to beat me. they were interesting loops, one was trapping me in the corner spamming berserker slash. couldn't do anything. its funny when youre blocking and you dont BLOCK at all until your second guy comes in.

another loops happened when i was casually choosing thor. he hit me on the way in and just spammed his moves. i dont even think i touched the ground, and if i did i was just sent back into the loops with that grab.

it was fun though using x-factor after him and just spamming my FIVE super. and even him blocking ended up killing him

Unless he was in X-Factor the entire match, those were neither loops nor infinites.

What I meant was that she's been dead in the marvel universe since like 2007 or something. But I guess since shes like half cosmic immortal being she gets a pass?

I can't finish any combos against Guardian - it all makes perfect sense now!

Haha. Sorry, I didn't mean to come off as calling you out or anything.
is that shadow mode release worth a dollar?
No. I don't even think it's supposed to be an A.I. script emulating any particular player, though I could be wrong. I think it's just themed fights (against Darkstalkers, etc, etc.). You could do the same thing by hitting up training mode. I guess if you love titles.

Anyone see this on Eventhubs?
Will there be a Super Marvel vs. Capcom 3?

This means yes, loooool.

is there a way to watch matches while in lobbies? i been sick of the netcode so i thought id take up some lobbies but can't view any matches!

anyways got to learn some zero defense tactics lol. hate that guy. :)

you cant spectate matches, which is why i stopped playing the game :p

waiting at that stupid screen for who knows how long just to play and hopefully win, and if not stare that the screen again?

no thanks!

ggs bs000. i made up that deadpool-joe-dormamu team on the fly.. now to go to the lab. =D

obviously my best characters are thor and deadpool
Good games to Joe, bs, and Shinobi last night!
Thanks for the matches and the lessons, Guardian. I definitely am out of practice on the game and the arcade stick - damn 3DS short cut specials, supers, and ultras on SSFIV3DE!

You got one! Nothing better than doing H Sonic Boom + H Flash Kick combos.

I would LOVE to have that arcade controller. I've seen tutorials on how to make them. It would be cool to make one too.
Marvel makes everyone salty.
Seriously. I don't think any other game has made me this salty in a long time. It does kind of make me feel better watching Excellent Adventures that I'm not alone.

I haven't had the chance to play in like a week, hopefully I'll be on a little later today to get some games in.

Also, I think I need Wesker on my team. ;)
Marvel makes everyone salty.

Let's be fair, though. If Excellent Adventures had started out from SFIV launch with Gootecks' Ryu, you'd see a ton of salt and frustration, shouting obscenities about SFIV Sagat. The reason why Excellent Adventures works out is because both Gootecks and Mike Ross have had about two years with that game, both have had some background with previous Street Fighters, and now both are on a tournament level.

In Marvelous, they're starting fresh. Gootecks has NEVER played a Marvel game, and Mike Ross has never played TvC. Both get very salty whenever they lose in ANY game, which is all part of the fun, but of course their win record is going to be much worse in Marvel as opposed to SFIV.

Also, matchup knowledge is so much more important in MvC3 than it is in SFIV. If you face a character you're not familiar with, you're at a huge disadvantage. GooRoss just needs more time to experiment with all the characters.

All that said, losses in Marvel hit hard, and I've definitely walked away from my TV fuming.
