Mass Effect 2 Discussion - Fight for the Lost
That new trailers was cool, but a teaser of a trailer? That was kind of weak. Interesting dialogue between the Illusive Man and Miranda, though.
My guess is that the rest of the video may show squadmates that have yet to be revealed. That, or BioWare just loves to tease us

I'd prefer a god damn army of male Rachni over of an Insanity lvl. Maw. I f*cking hate those things. I'm going to wait until the full trailer before checking everything out. Thanks for being on point with the news X. I don't have to bother with Bioware forums with you around. ^_^

I really need to get all achievements in the first one soon then work on all the ones play throughs that I want to have before the second came out. Looks like if I don't do it soon I might just play the second one and then later go back to the first and start a game then go back to the second to finish it.

Once I realized that Thresher Maws only pop up from flat surfaces, I was able to successfully avoid them throughout a large majority of the game (except for side missions where you have to fight them). They always scared the fuck out of me when I initially played the game, though. Here's to hoping that in ME2 they're more varied in the landscapes they pop out from.
I think we've beaten this point to death, but: I like it this way because we avoid the wild speculation/rumors and the war between fanboys stuck in the past and fanboys wanting ME2 to evolve the series. It's pretty much why I've used a lot of stuff from BioWare's site in the OP - to make it feel like an official forum, without the idiots.
Longer then 8-10 hours plz bioware, thx.
I hope you don't mean that you want them to create a game that lasts longer than 8-10 hours, because if you're running through ME1 in that amount of time - you're doing it wrong. I'm at least on my 6th run-through of the game, meaning that I know where to find every sidequest, what decision I want to make, what enemies I'll be facing where, pretty much every dialogue option, every location of the Keepers, and about 80% of the mineral locations just off the top of my head...and it still takes me longer than 8-10 hours to complete a run through, even though I know the game like the back of my hand. Hell, there's probably 8 hours worth of sidequests available just from the Citadel alone.

The only real way you could you run through ME in 8-10 hours is if you only focused on the main quest line and nothing else so I agree with X when he says you're sort of doing it wrong. No way in hell you'd get your moneys worth rushing through it. I'm still amazed after the amount of hours I've put into it that I'm still finding brand new conversations and different angles to explore.

I'm pray we're able to actually kill them outside of Mako combat in a reasonable amount of time without dedicating a particular all-purpose build for it on any difficulty. Dealing with them in Insanity was a bitch during both the soldier side quest and gathering any quest related items in shallow parts of the map. You'd think by now with the amount of time spent playing this I would have committed the planets that are infested with them to memory. ;\

True. I actually hadn't intended on beating a dead horse this time. I just felt compelled to express my thanks. I've successfully weaned myself off those forums for good a week or so ago so this is the only place I can really count on for quick and accurate news updates. Everywhere else is either out of the loop or a few days late.

I think the Thresher Maws are like Graboids so they will only come put of land that is flat. At least they always reminded me of them. Maybe we will get a form of shriekers in this one and ass-blasters in the next.

I love mass effect more then the next, but you have to admit the sidequests were SUPER WEAK. After the third of fourth one they are just the same simulated room reconfigured. No offense but Bethesda and Fallout 3's side quests pretty much gives a lesson to all sand box RPG developers as to how to make a side quest that feels proportionate to the main.

ME1 had a very good story, great production values, but it all went to hell after the main storyline.

I know this is the 360 forum, and sorry if it's been covered already, but will the PC version of ME2 carry over info from ME1 PC saves?

Is there a way to take screenshots on Xbox 360? If so, we should post our ME Shepards that we want to use in ME2.

I tried to make mine look like me, but instead he looks like a brunette Arnold Schwarzenegger

Yes, you just can't use xbox save on pc or vice versa.

Just wanted to pass on a word of warning to those trying to stay spoiler-free: the "embargo" held on releasing Mass Effect 2 information ends tomorrow, meaning that spoilers may start to drop on various websites. I know that, for instance, IGN will post impressions of the first 90 minutes of the game tomorrow on their site..so be careful what you read. Also, please do not post any spoiler information here. If it's not a reveal of the 9th or 10th party member, a new class video, or some sort of official trailer released by BioWare then don't bother posting it - if you do, then clearly mark it (ex. "major storyline spoiler:"). If I see anything resembling a storyline spoiler that's not marked and hidden in spoiler tags, I'll:

1) Be super pissed.
2) Call you out for being a dick
3) Have the post deleted

Remember kids, stay spoiler free!

I completed another run thru of Mass Effect a week ago, completing every single side quest in the game (double checked the ME Wikia to make sure) and it lasted about 17~ hours.

No RPG should be this short; hell, AC2 is in the mid teens in terms of game length. Hopefully seeing as ME2 is on two discs, we'll get more length.

Have you gone through a Renegade playthrough? A Paragon playthrough? Mixed and matched? Played as an Adept? Soldier? Colonist background? Earthborn? Male? Female? etc. The game's not "17~ hours" long...one portion of it is. And since we're on the subject of hoping for Mass Effect 2 to be longer, this interview pretty much guarantees a lengthy ME2 experience - specifically, these lines:
With so many options, picking how you will specialize your Sentinel is quite the challenge, but this is only one aspect of specialization. Your armor, weapons, and researched upgrades will have a big impact on how your Sentinel plays. We also have other forms of character customization we haven't announced yet. With so many options, you could play through Mass Effect 2 three times with three different Sentinels, and have a different experience each time.
I would rather have an intense 10 hour experience that I continually want to go back to than a 30 hour grind fest that gets buried in a pile after I beat it.

Thanks for that post. I hope people read it. I hope it gets added to the OP.

I'm getting really tired of other threads around here being carpet bombed with spoilers, it's gotten to the point where once a game is released I generally have to stay away.
When will Amazon put up a pre-order special damn it.
Hey I just checked Amazon and it looks like they have the CE pre-order on sale for $59.99.

Mass Effect 2 CE

I could have sworn it was $79.99 when I put it on my Wish List a few days ago...

I'm gonna bite at any rate.

Saw this over on Bitmob:

One last important note to those of you itching to import your saves into Mass Effect 2: You'll have to finish Mass Effect 1 first. Mass Effect 2 accesses a specific save file from the ME1 end-game, so if you haven't beaten the game yet, you better hurry up and do it before Mass Effect 2's January 26 release date.

Good to know. Between the different difficulties, trying to get to level 60, DLC, etc., I have a bunch of characters that I just left in the middle of the game. This is a good excuse to go back to ME1 and get all of them through the game one more time so they're all ready to go in January.

Haha, yea I have a few characters I need to get to the end as well and I just started a new one like two weeks ago.

This comes out next month? Damn, all the coverage, and I missed the release date...

I still need to finish 1. I'm nuts about organization, so no sort system for your inventory is driving me mad, so I've stopped playing. Plus I restarted, since I was so out of touch with the story after not playing for so long. And I couldn't stand having two useless weapons (MG and Sniper Rifle; went with Vangard first play through, now a soldier)

I haven't seen any videos, did they fix the Mako parts? I mean, I know they did, but is there video of it?

I have about 6 different saves from beating the game and I'm working on a seventh for the hardcore mode now. So I guess even if I don't beat the game on hardcore I should be good.

Question I have is if the "merchant unlocks" (not sure what to call them) will be back. What I am talking about is the things you could find so that the merchant could sell you certain brands and what not. Wonder if they are in this, and if those you found before will also have some effect on ME2.

That's actually the first time I have seen this question brought up, and it is interesting to think about. I doubt that since no armor/weapons will be making the transition over to ME2 that the licenses will - although, if you think about it, those licenses are pretty much a business contract between X company and your ship...it could go either way.

Yes those. Was I the only one looking for them and going to see what kind of deals I could get from the merchants?

As crazy as this game sounds, I wonder if Shepard will even have time to shop. :)

Though that is what I'd like more info on. The inventory system, how you arm your teammates, and the different ways of upgrading their equiptment (like buying items or finding loot).

Regarding your other three questions:

The inventory system has been "done away with". Now, you arm your teammates and yourself before taking on the mission/sidequest, and I think you are stuck with that setup for the entire mission - I may be mistaken, though (info on the inventory has been thrown into a lot of spoiler-y reviews so far, so it's hard for me to be certain). The new way of obtaining upgrades/mods is derived from ME2's survey system - like ME1's minerals sidequest - now when you collect that type of data, you bring it to Mordin on your ship and he turns it into usable weapon technology. Also, a few devs said that the sidequests will be a lot more important now, in terms of the weapon mods you obtain through completing them. That's what I've been able to gather so far, without reading too much.

Just a reminder for tomorrow (22nd): the full 3-minute Cinematic Trailer will be available for download on the Xbox Live Marketplace. I'm not sure that there's a specific time for the trailer to show up, so if you're really jonesin' to see it then you can check here for someone to post that it's up, or check the ME forums (beware of spoilers), or maybe even check on Major Nelson's site for an update.

For those who don't know how to find videos/trailers on the Marketplace, follow this guideline: Game Marketplace > Explore Game Content > Game Videos > New Arrivals.

-----------------------------------------------

Also, the Infiltrator class was shown off today on IGN. Check the class reveal out here. The accompanying interview is here.

The new stealth system for the Infiltrator actually looks pretty badass! Considering the fact that Assassin builds are amongst my favorite for typical RPGs, I may have to invest some time into evolving this class. More and more I think that I'm gonna drop 200+ hours into this game before all is said and done. There's waaay too much diversity and customization in this game to only put in one playthrough.

-----------------------------------------------

Also, another warning for people posting in this thread (sorry if all these demands are getting old): Do not post the recently revealed achievements in this thread. Not a link to them, not a picture of them, not a discussion of them. Usually, I wouldn't care but none of the achievements are "Secret" - meaning that the list could be extremely spoiler-filled. If you haven't figured out by now, spoilers are not this thread's friend and they won't be tolerated. Unless I find out that the revealed achievements do not actually spoil the story for ME2, please refrain from posting about them. Thanks!

I'd seriously refrain from looking at that list. It could possibly contain more spoilers than any review/video/article could ever give out.

If I was to pre-order the Collector's Edition right now, would I be charged now? Also, I want to pick it up the day it releases and don't want to rely on it *hopefully* arriving at my house the day of. If I order from the website, is this possible? And if not, can I pre-order from the actual store?

Thanks.

The trailer is up on the marketplace, and I will describe it in one word "Epic". I wish it was 1/26 already, so I can play this game.

Goddamn, that trailer was sick! I hate being reminded that the game is a full month away, but I at least have this trailer to watch over and over again. Epic trailer is epic.

Amen... good call. Faq sites have taught me enough hard lessons of how truly little spoiler free help and actual common courtesy there is on the internet. I plan to take any and all precautions possible to not spoil myself of another epic game plot.

Just know anyone who refuses to properly label their spoilers in here is getting reported with the quickness. I'm tired of inconsiderate assholes who can't keep their traps shut just blurting out vital information for five measly seconds of attention. Any links to storyline or gameplay related material should be perfectly acceptable without a meticulously thorough description though as most users are capable of policing themselves.

I don't want to see any "OMFG MY COUSIN'S GF'S BROTHER'S SON WORKS FOR BIOWARE AND DUDE I CAN'T F*CKING BELIEVE YOUR SURVIVAL DEPENDS ON PERSUADING A THRESHER MAW QUEEN TO LET LEGION IMPREGNATE HER WHILE LIARA WATCHES!" in bold size 20 font and broken spoiler tags or none at all in the next coming weeks fuckers.

Have a heart.

I'm going to feel like such an ass if something even vaguely related to that actually happens now, haha. Seriously though Liara is the type to watch and you know it.

LOL.

I can only imagine how the legion of Thane fangirls reacted to the full trailer. That Lift-Shotty combo from him and Grunt was made of pure win.
