Mass Effect 2 Discussion - Fight for the Lost

Yeah I was bummed when there was no special weapon that came with the Inferno armor, like an equivalent to the avalanche gun but uses radiation and sun spot damage! haha

the bonus armor and wpns are really just eye candy after a while, great for starting a brand spank new game but once you get to a certain point it's just about the look more so than the functionality...same goes with DA:O. $10 for a DLC suit of armor doesn't seem very attractive or reasonable though I'd imagine there's always someone who must have everything regardless. If you can't sell it on ebay, you'd probably have a much better return trading it for something.

Hey guys,.. I never did a New Game + on ME1, so I have a question here...

I'm doing a New Game+ on insanity right now(on ME2), but I'm not planning on being thorough this time around. Many of my crew will probably die at the end.

Now, this is going to be speculation of course, but based on how ME1 > ME2 worked, will my completed saves both be available for import to ME3, or will this second, sloppy playthrough overwrite my first "completion record" since they are the same shephard? if it makes a difference I'm playing the same class again(didn't even know I could change without losing my bonuses)

finished my insanity run last night. finally 1015/1015.

i wanted the ending with shepard dying but it was either that or romancing kelly. so i made the decision to romance kelly. i figured kelly in a stripper outfit was much more satisfying than dying. but now i am left with only 2 people left, zaeed and samara. totally hate this team but it was totally worth it for kelly XD
Quick question: Does the network card ever expire? My ME2 is still sealed because I'm playing through ME1.
i think it expires in a couple of years. you should be alright

Each complete game from ME1 generates a unique save to be used in ME2. There's no reason to think it won't be the same in ME3.

Ah ok. I read a rumor somewhere that it expired this month and I was like, "Wait, what?" o_O

So I can continue my ME1 quest and finally beat it

After having some experience with my Adept, I'm loving it over the Vanguard. I'm dieing less on Insanity than I was on normal with my vanguard while getting my bearings in the game. I feel in control over battles all the time as opposed to wrestling control away only to cede it again with the Vanguard.

Those videos were informative (particularly the stuff he found out that isn't listed).

Good luck with the insanity+ game. I started an insanity+ for my first insanity run on my Vanguard and it was fun for a while (not knowing it was an amped up difficulty), but I had to give up at the collector ship. It was just a bit ridiculous dying in 3 seconds, and extremely frustrating pumping round after round into enemies with barely a sliver of their health/armour/etc dropping.

I started a new insanity game with an imported ME1 Adept and man.... this run has been an absolute JOKE so far. Maybe my insanity+ game forced me to learn how to be incredibly efficient or something but it is just laughable how much easier a regular insanity game has been. Though I bet the very nature of the Vanguard doesn't lend itself very well to an insanity+ game. Again, good luck with your insanity+ run!

Wow,
I wish every main mission was designed the way the suicide mission was. It makes it feel more like your whole team is with you instead of just choosing two of them and leaving everyone else on the Normandy to just stand around and do nothing
. Just finished my New game+ Insanity mode and it was pretty fun. The only difficult part was
Horizon
, but after that, everything else was a breeze. I was a soldier, with Reave as a bonus talent (6 second cool down is almost unfair), and always had
Miranda and Grunt with me the entire time. It's ridiculous how much damage Grunt can take before he falls in a firefight
.

Can someone explain this charm/intimidate oddity?

I completed Legion's loyalty quest. Killing the heretics (this is my renegade playthrough) maxed my renegade bar, so I figured I'd have no trouble breaking up the fight with Tali. Not so. The intimidate option was greyed-out, so I had to choose a side. As soon as that was done (I sided with Tali) I spoke with Legion and was given the intimidate option to win his loyalty back.

How could 100% not be enough to break up the fight in the first place? Weird.

There is supposedly a glitch with the Miranda/Jack fight that does not allow you to resolve the fight successfully even if you have enough Paragon/Renegade, depending on the order that you did their quests. Maybe there's something similar going on with Tali and Legion?

That's possible, though in my first play
I did the quests in the same order and I was able to end the fight with charm, and I did it with less than 100% paragon.

I was thinking, it's possible to "lose" Tali's loyalty mission, i.e., finish the mission in a way that doesn't get you her loyalty and the Treason achievement. Maybe if she never becomes loyal, the fight doesn't happen. But looking at your profile it looks like you have both Treason and A House Divided so that can't be it.

Yeah, on my second playthrough I couldn't break up the Tali/Legion fight, but my renegade was high enough to win Legion's loyalty back right after.

First play through I was full paragon and was able to break it up.

Tha Xecutioner posted a quote from BioWare a few pages back. It was mentioned that the Miranda/Jack fight is easier to resolve with intimidate, while the Tali/Legion fight is easier with charm.

Still doesn't explain why 100% renegade isn't enough. There must be some arbitrary event/conversation trigger that makes the intimidate option available. Or it's a glitch...

I did the Jack loyalty mission last thing before
retrieving the Reaper IFF
and was able to resolve with charm (had full Paragon by that point).

Yeah, I'd think that would be enough. I was only 75% or so renegade as I didn't focus on maxing it out.
Did you do Legion's loyalty mission?

The fight happens after it when you get back to the ship.
Yeah. And what's funny is I had Tali with me on the Legion loyalty mission, but they didn't fight afterwards.

Edit
Ok, I'm lying now. I remember them arguing in the AI core.

Regarding the Tali/Legion situation:

If you say you were at 100% at the time of the conflict, then it only leaves one real answer in my mind for why you weren't able to resolve the issue using a Renegade persuasion. By using part of the quote I posted a few days ago, you can see where the problem has to be (I bolded the important part):
There are potential Paragon and Renegade points throughout the game. When the user arrives in an area (ie: Omega) the game registers every single Paragon or Renegade decision that can be made and increases the difficulty of the persuade system based on these potential points. If the user collects all of these points (either Paragon OR Renegade) they break even - they can almost never get ahead of the system (you can only keep apace). If the user misses these opportunities to collect all of the points, the game still keeps these points you missed - so the player will actually start to fall behind. If the player falls behind it is very difficult and almost impossible to catch back up, because everywhere you go more potential points are being mounted against you and making the persuasions more difficult. So when you arrive at the most difficult persuasions in the game (i.e. Jack and Miranda) where you are already at a disadvantage due to the difficulty of the persuade and the fact that these potential points that you missed are stacking up against you to make it even more difficult, you are going to fail it (i.e. it's easier to Renegade persuade those two and Paragon persuade Legion and Tali). This is not because of a bug in the system, but because it's how it was originally designed.
According to BioWare the problem is that at some point in the game you fell behind in the amount of Renegade points you were able to get on a certain planet/station and, despite reaching the 100% mark, it caused you to fail the Renegade persuasion. I couldn't even begin to tell you when/where you may have fallen behind or lost points on the imaginary Paragon/Renegade scoreboard that tracks all your decisions, but I can say that it's the reason why you weren't able to use the Renegade option.

I don't mean for it to sound like I'm saying "you fucked up", I'm just basing it off the information that BioWare's given on the Paragon/Renegade system and the fact that they've stood by this system when people question certain aspects of it (always stating that it "works as intended"). I'm also not denying the idea that it could be a glitch.

Haha this should be interesting I'm doing a character half and half with Paragon/Renegade (usually just pressing X or the quicktime action during cutscenes). hehe

Yes, that all makes sense except for that fact that I was immediately able to regain Legion's loyalty after "failing" the fight. It's as if regaining lost loyalty relies solely on an arbitrary renegade/paragon score, not the more esoteric the points you have vs the points you could have had score.

Oh well, at least everyone is loyal this time.
Yep what Anex said. And it's on tomorrow night, so technically Friday morning(?). And yes, it is a weird ass time slot.
I might stretch watching it on Spike just because it's ME2. What's weird is that according to everything on the site, you are right and it's actually Friday morning. But they say 12AM Thursday. Not the same thing. Oh well. Hoping for more than a few seconds of footage.

I just started up Mass Effect 2 a few days ago. I been recruiting some members to my team did archangle, mordin, & jack and saw a loading screen that something like, 'having loyal members will give u special abilities' All my members are currently @ 'normal' loyalty and was wondering what these powers/abilities are & how do I gain loyalty. Do I just have to keep talking to my members to gain their trust or do I have to bring them along in missions or a combination of the two?

As you progress you will gain access to their loyalty missions. When you talk to the chick next to the star map she will tell you "so and so wants to speak with you", then you can go on the character specific loyalty missions.

When you get a new squadmate and are able to check their stats, the bottom option (the one that can't be upgraded yet) is the unlockable power.

Absolutely loved the sneak peek we got of the Hammerhead DLC. It looks really fast and intense (for lack of a better word), and it's definitely something new. I can't wait to get my hands on it.

A very underwhelming video to say the least which at first glance proves exploration was only one of many aspects of the game unnecessarily nerfed to the extreme. I'll give it a chance hoping for the best but much like Kaiden's presence in the first game I wouldn't be surprised if I spend most of the time wondering why the hell it is in the game in the first place. Das said it best: "Can't complain about the price though."

I just wish most of the problems with the first game were handled with a more balanced approach a.k.a. fixed instead of brutally culled or severely stripped down.

1- I havent started ME2 yet as Im doing ME1 again and at the end. Question is do I have to do anything for ME2 to utilize the save from ME1? I know you dont carry stats over or anything but I know it impacts the game somewhat, just wasnt sure what I needed to do, or if it just see's the autosave from ME1 and does its thing.

2- Whats the install size for ME2? I have a 20gb 360 (pro model) and I did a install of ME1 and after I beat it Ill uninstall it and have like 12gb of room left, hoping that will be enough for a install of ME2.

3- Can I backup my ME1 save? I started recently on my ps3 copying game save data onto a flash drive and then putting the saves in a folder on my pc just for sake of keeping it. Was wondering about if I can for my 360 also for ME.

Thanks.

Footage of the Hammerhead Thursday night on GTTV. Let's see if I must eat my words or not...
Wow, that video bascially looks like Star Wars Clone Wars for Xbox or GC - Updated for 2010!

And then the developer has the balls to say, something along the lines of: If you support this subpar content, we can give you higher-end content later.

Badddddd.

LOL.

Word.

If they couldn't or weren't willing to replicate the same scope, freedom and feel of ME1 minus wonky Mako controls and cut/paste planetary environments then I'll would willingly settle for a better alternative to element scanning until I get a glimpse of what ME3 has to offer. At this point I'll take whatever I can get.

If the latter isn't the case then I'll probably give it a once over and shelve it until Kasumi or new armor and weapons show up.

Yup. I did it for the post count. I wasn't trying to help direct you to the official thread, which is extremely active and posting there would get your question answered much more quickly.

+1 post count.
