Mass Effect 3 Discussion Thread

I don't even know if I'll buy BF3, much less play MP. I'll also only play gears 3 for the single player, but that's also why I won't spend more than $30 to buy it.
Wait, can you activate the online pass outside of the game? If so, I need to talk to someone about getting that pass just for the Mass Effect demo.
Assuming it works like the other ones I've seen, like Bulletstorm, it's a 25-digit code like any other XBL download.
If I'm playing something MP, it's probably L4D or L4D2.
That's the kind of MP I'm into, a cooperative, PvE experience. You might enjoy Horde. :)

Yeah, Horde mode in Gears 3 is way fun and I'm so not into Multiplayer. That's why I'm so psyched for ME3 co-op because it sounds a lot like Horde mode.

See how I brought it back to ME3? :)

Also, a hands-on preview of the co-op, which has a negative but predictable conclusion: The best things about Mass Effect are the story, dialogue, and squad interaction, and the co-op mode is Mass Effect without those things.

I'm sure it's not going to be terrible or anything, the shooting gameplay in ME2 was completely solid and fun. But I can't imagine it's going to stack up against Gears 3 as something worth returning to again and again. And the various previews that came out today seem to be confirming that.

It just seems silly that in a series with so many awesome and unique aspects, they would choose to single out the one least interesting and distinctive element and spin that off into its own dedicated mode.

I'd put some good odds that this was a move by EA and not by Bioware to add in the Horde-like co-op, since it sounds like something else to drag in the people that passed on ME1 and ME2 the previous time. "ZOMG! We have Horde mode like Gears 3, come pick up ME3!" Sounds like a EA move to me over Bioware's doing.

I agree that the shooter gameplay in ME2 was good and this sounds like ME2 meets Pinnacle Station from ME1. I'm sure we'll get some gameplay out of it, and if it doesn't stack up over time, there's obvious replays in ME3 SP to be had. ;)

That's what I was saying as I wanted something like Pinnacle Station for ME2 DLC and everyone said that was the wrong direction. Hah, look at it now! Other than Horde mode comparisons I believe more companies are looking for ways to extend their game's "shelf life". Obviously Mass Effect's hook is the multiple playthroughs:bouncy:, due to the different outcomes and morality decisions/consequences but I guess the people that are targeted for this mode probably would never do multiple playthroughs.

Even with just my two playthroughs under Paragon Vanguard and Renegade Adept, it was a wildly differing experience.

You can say without question that there's six playthroughs in every ME game, one for each character class.
Who would want to play the single player more than just once?
Everyone should play through it at least twice to get the Paragon / Renegade sides of the equation, which I think will have some wider scopes in ME3.

Kotaku wasn't cheering praise at the co-op demo they were playing, though they weren't as negative either:
On the Battlefield topic, I have a code for the Amazon preorder dog tags that I'm not going to use, so if anyone wants it, PM me.
Same here.
I'm with you. Yes, I'm a grown man with children and a wife and work and responsibilities. But, damn....what's one day for little old me? I don't think I've ever taken a day off just because of a game release. This might be worth it, especially if there is a midnight launch.
I think that is some fine advice. ;)

In other news, my order of my Normandy SR-2 replica has shipped out. :D Should be here by the end of the week. I went with the Alliance/non-Cerberus variant you can find all over the place, as the Cerberus variant was only order-able from the Bioware online store at the time I placed my order.

Linky (though I had it price matched to other sites down to $27.99):

Looks like they have also the Cerberus version for order as well, which is just the "old" Cerberus paint scheme from ME2, versus the Alliance paint scheme that is supposed to show up in ME3 when the Alliance "claims" the Normandy from Shepard during the trial:

please post pics of the actual Normandy model. I've been on the fence about this forever and would love to see the final, real thing. I should order is now or else they'll probably sell out.

BioWare: Mass Effect 1, 2 "just a preamble" to Mass Effect 3

Nice article overall but this bit made me grit my teeth a little:

You could say the previous games were just a preamble to this moment. Everything has been building to this. It's like the Superbowl. Who cares what happened in the regular season? Now's the one that matters.

Um, pretty much all of us care a lot about what happened in the regular season, since one of the major selling points of your game series is the continuity of playing the same save file over multiple games. Of course I understand what the guy is trying to say, but seriously, BioWare needs to figure out how to keep their people on message.

I think EA is lending their marketing people to Bioware for ME3 to make talking points, and that's where statements like this come about.

I would agree, there's quite a few of us that have been working through both prior games with the tales of how everything flows through from ME1 into ME2 and into ME3, both small and large plot points.

Bioware needs to let Casey Husdon talk it up instead of someone like this general manager who sounds more EA than Bioware.
Full-ass, side-boob please.

Though, I agree with your preference on that one.

Too bad, could have been a good excuse to pick up one of these.

I mock because I love. :grouphug:

We love you too Ryu (no homo). It's just the timing and quality of that picture was exquisite.

As for the keyboard, I could find someone to come in and clean it for me for less than half that price though. Highway robbery.

No homo is so Mass Effect 2. In ME3 everyone embraces the full homo.

Hope you're ready for Jacob and Kaidan to fight over your man Shep's heart.

I know I'm ready for Ash and Miranda to get all grabby with my fem Shep. In fact I was born ready.

Ugh... you're bringing me back to how awkward it was when Anders hit on me for the first time in DA2. Literally almost seconds after I did his recruitment mission and had a chance to talk to him.

Anders: If only I had known the Templars set a trap for us. I really appreciate what you've done for me.

Hawke: Yeah... well I kind of didn't have a choice. We need your ma-

Anders: Praise the maker your ass looks riper than a well fed nug that robe...

Hawke: Oh thanks. I work out at least five times a da- wait, what?

If it's anything like that there's a Renegade interrupt with my name on it. Fair warning is all I'm asking for here. I don't mind every living being on the planet admitting their unbridled sexual attraction to my protagonist in the span of five minutes. Just keep it nonchalant, your hands to yourself and don't cut him out of the friend zone because penile fencing duels between the sheets doesn't interest me. I paid for those extra conversations damnit. Quit cockblocking. (pun totally intended)

Exactly. They need to tread carefully to avoid another situation like Anders in DA2. Especially since (like Anders) these characters are already established as straight, or at the very least, have displayed no evidence of bisexuality thus far. Jack, for one, specifically denies being attracted to women, so making her bi is a full-fledged retcon.
I'm hoping for more blue side-ass for ME3, as well as some unsuited Quarian side-ass. :D
Hey now!! Thats what I'm talking about!
Queue school girlish squeel...EEK! Gotta see more pics! Please post if you can. Jeez, I'm gonna have to buy that. Fall 2011 is/has been brutal.
Mine is supposed to arrive tomorrow.

Supposedly, the Cerberus version is more rare over the Alliance version, so keep that in mind if you decide to bite on one of them.

Asari-side-assload of information on the co-op mode in this interview with Jesse Houston.

Highlights:

- Races not playable initially will be added as DLC
- There are multiplayer achievements
- Multiplayer characters level up and have customizable armor
- Multiplayer characters will never appear in the single player story
- No friendly fire
- No local splitscreen

Ugh... there goes my plans of boycotting multiplayer and any Quarian related DLC for it. Damnable achievement points I smite thee! On the bright side this gives me more than enough incentive to make the randoms I'm stuck with look bad watching me out Vanguard them as a proud member of the Migrant Fleet.

The lack of local splitscreen is no big loss.

It's honestly the only trilogy I absolutely HAVE to full achievement score despite how feel about its current direction. My love for ME1 runs that deep so Bioware dodged a bullet forcing my hand with nerd points. Still irked they'd nickle and dime like that though when Tali has no plot armor to speak of by the end of ME2 and is a CQC shotgun empress on the battlefield. Dragon Age is a close second but I won't return to the sequel until an Awakening esque expansion is announced. I almost wish they hadn't spoiled me so much with Origins in the first place. ;\

By the way has the Halloween Pulse special surfaced on YouTube yet? I'm too lazy to deal with the hassle of forcing my relic of a PC to dare stream it on the official site.
