Mass Effect 3 Discussion Thread

Haha, I'm just giving you shit - no worries.
:) Me too. Another reason to love the ME threads.
I actually think it would be cool talking to and playing with people from this thread .....
Though it's still less than five months out, I'm excited about what this mode can offer people like us - forums full of ME fans that would otherwise only be able to enjoy the game on an individual basis and talk about it in private chats or here on message boards. I'm definitely down for sending/accepting friend requests to/from people in here who are going to want to play the MP mode after the game hits.

And I would like to be on Team CAG also.
Bingo. It's 5 months out and we're already starting teams. I'll send FR to people, but I'm going to be offline a little while longer (in the process of buying a townhouse). Looking forward to the CAG battalion saving the universe.
I'll send FR to people. Looking forward to the CAG battalion saving the universe.

I sent FR to a few of the regulars here.
Thanks guys for getting the friend request thing going, I've accepted them and will send some out to other regulars (at least that I can think of off the top of my head who I haven't yet added). As we get closer to the game's release and we have a better idea of who'll want to play MP, I'm sure that I can find room to add even more people.

Including Elcor and Hanar?

 • ...Never say never...
So you're saying there's a chance!

Why are we still capped at 100 friends, It's so stupid?! I'd add a few of you guys but it's full. It would def enhance my mass effect co-op sessions. ;)

Gah, still debating pre-ordering the CE.

Yeah wasn't one of the reasons for cutting off Live support for XBox 1 games so we could increase this damn friends list?

Any who, I'm full up now as well.

ME3 gets another installment in the "online pass" situation, so you'll have to buy one for multiplayer if you get a used copy.

Same stuff EA and other companies are doing to keep money coming in from used copies.

Engineer gameplay footage from Comic-Con:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RtrU1wOfv7A

I'm not sure about the level-up screens, seems cluttered and like a step backwards from the clarity and simplicity of ME2. I'm sure some will enjoy this more though.

It's also funny to me how they changed the menus back to blue, it's a purely cosmetic thing but it seems baldly calculated to assuage the fears of ME1 fans who thought ME2 was too different. There there, we're keeping all of the gameplay changes you didn't like, but look how these menus are nice and blue again!

That video is so hard to watch. I just wanted to say "step aside little girl and let a professional show you how it's done" the whole time. She's so bad :whistle2:#

However, we do get to see the skill set for the Engineer class, so I'll post some of it up here for all my Engineers in the house.

---------------

Skill tree for the Engineer Class in ME3 (w/ included description of new powers):

Incinerate

Overload

Cryo Blast

Combat Drone

Sabotage - Sabotages technology, causing enemy weapons to overheat and backfire causing damage, and turning synthetic enemies against their own allies. *So happy to see this power back! :bouncy: It seems like they combined the Sabotage power from ME1 with AI Hacking*

Sentry Turret - Deploy a turret that blasts any nearby enemy. Only one turret can be active at a time.

Tech Mastery

Fortitude - Increases health, shields, and melee damage. *Seems like a slot that every class will/should have*

---------------

Pretty game is pretty.

Yeah, no doubt about that. Even from offscreen video you can tell this going to be a looker.

I'm not sure about the Sentry Turret. It's nice that the Engineer is getting something unique (assuming that Engineer squadmates don't also get the Turret like they can use Combat Drone), but it seems a little underwhelming as a power. Isn't that what the other two squadmates are for? Then again, I can see some interesting uses as far as drawing the enemies away from the party or using the Turret as a decoy for flanking purposes.

Likely like the Combat Drone, though hopefully with more punch.

It better have more punch given lack of mobility.

How about a sentry heavy weapon?

It has to at least be different than the Combat Drone in some way, else they run the risk of redundancy.

I'd imagine that it is a personal sentry gunner that remains by Shepard for the duration of the ability. It will either have an insanely short recharge time (like the Combat Drone) or will just be a static ability as long as it remains intact (i.e. the Tech Armor for Sentinels). I'd personally rather it be a static ability, as long as it wouldn't be overpowered. I can already imagine the dialog-bombing that a mobile sentry would cause in all my conversations

Also similar to the Combat Drone, I'd imagine that you cannot control the movement of the sentry once you activate it. I feel like it would be a nightmare trying to control that, telling your squadmates where to get into cover, and tossing out a Combat Drone or using your other powers all while being under heavy fire, though I'm guessing the ME team could pull it off.
Images of the final, redesigned Liara Bishoujo statue

Looks significantly less ridiculous and creepy than the initial version that was shown, but I still think the anime style just doesn't really work with Liara's character design.
Looks pretty cool. Pretty sure I'm going to preorder it whenever possible. It also has to have an anime look to it. That's pretty much Koto's thing when it comes to making statues of comic and game characters.

Also, Mass Effect Invasion #1 from Dark Horse Comics hits shelves tomorrow. Most comic shops don't carry many copies of Dark Horse Comics (unless it's Hellboy or Buffy) so go early if you're picking up a copy (and really, why shouldn't you?).

Did u guys see the rifle replica? Its up at www.biowarestore.com. its freaking amazing, based on the triforce replica prototype, but its $650. When I saw it last night, I got all excited, called my wife over to show her my next bad purchasing decision, then saw the price and said "aw hell". As cool as that is, I can't swing $650.

*nerdgasm*

Direct link, if you want to get your pants tight looking it over:

http://biowarestore.com/mass-effect/mass-effect-accessories/m8-avenger-assault-rifle-replica

It does look amazing, no question there. Though, as it's 20 lbs in weight, it's probably about twice as heavy as the "real deal" would be, assuming something similar in weight to a current assault rifle.
Can anyone recommend the Mass Effect books? If I'm gonna read them, I should probably do it before ME3.
Read them.

Read the books. Read the comics. Read the web-comics. Read the codex. Read the ME wiki.

Read everything.

Read ALL the things!

I'm actually a little behind, I haven't read the comics about the faceless man. When does last book come out?
Well, that actually makes me really want BF3.
I've been eyeing up BF3, mainly because of the Abrams tank levels, even though I don't like military shooters. But, ME3 content ala' Dragon Age or Dead Space 2 = probably gonna have to buy this game now.

Oh, and as for the books and comics, YES! Read it all. It's all fantastic and fleshes out the universe. They all intertwine. I just read the first issue of Invasion, the latest comic series that started yesterday and it's great. Sets the stage for what the hell Cerberus is up to in ME3. Great, great stuff. Plus, it starts off with a reference to the 3rd book.

News on the ME3 demo, from the Bioware Forums:

Hello everyone! It's going to be a Happy New Year! Mass Effect 3 will have a pre-release demo in January 2012. This demo will have both single player and multiplayer sections, giving fans a taste of what's to come on March 6, 2012. Be first to the front lines in the multiplayer section of the Mass Effect 3 demo! Redemption of the Online Pass for Battlefield 3 will unlock this early access. But rallying for war is just getting started - in late November / early December, BioWare will announce other ways for fans to engage the enemy with their friends online from day one!

What are the details of the Mass Effect 3 pre-release demo?

•The Mass Effect 3 pre-release demo will launch in January 2012 (exact date TBA).
•The demo will include both single-player and multi-player sections.
•The demo will be released in all regions where the game is

How can I get early access to the multi-player portion of the Mass Effect 3 demo coming in January 2012?

•Owners of Battlefield 3, on any platform, who activate their Online Pass will automatically be granted early access to the multiplayer portion of the Mass Effect 3 demo. There is no need to enter any other codes, the early access will be applied to the EA Account associated with the Online Pass.
•This applies to all regions where the demo is released (to be announced)
•The exact date of the demo launch will be announced in late November
•There will be another program whereby players and fans of the Mass Effect franchise can unlock this early access (with no purchase necessary) – this will also be announced in late November or early December.
•There will also be a tool posted on www.masseffect.com allowing players to check if their EA account has been granted the early access.
•The length of the early access period is TBA.
•The single-player section of the demo will be available to all players on day one of the demo launch.

Eh, I'm not too concerned. One, it sounds like there will be another way to get early access. Two, "early access" could be like the BF3 demo early access from Medal of Honor which was, what, like 3 days or something? Three, the single-player portion of the demo will keep me busy for a little while before I'm interested in the multiplayer anyway.

Now, if there was an exclusive flaming M-98 Widow involved... (I shouldn't give EA ideas)

They're pretty decent, nothing spectacular, but you shouldn't expect that from video game novels and graphic novels. They plots are pretty good in each of the books as they all tie-in to the first 2 games (and third now!) pretty smoothly.

It was bad enough with the Cerberus Network codes in the boxes, though at least for that, you did get a decent amount of "free" content with the 1200 points it cost if you had to get it for a used copy.

Let's not give them the idea to add in the Online pass component so that you can download any of the DLC for any reason.

I preoederd battlefield last night. I was thinking about it but this pushed me over the edge. It looks like there might be exclusive armor too, which will be cool. Kind of reminds me of zone of the enders back on the ps2. I only bound that for the metal gear solid 2 demo .

Sorry for the back-to-back posts, but I have a thought.....

I'm still rocking an 120 gb Elite 360 and I've been wanting to upgrade to a slim. I thought about the Gears 3 model and the Star Wars one, but neither do it for me. I'm considering seeing what Black Friday brings. But, since M-soft has bundled non-M-soft games (resident evil, call of duties, star wars kinect) into console bundles, with exclusive branding/detailing, what are the chances they'd do that with ME3? I'd give my left nut and well more than what they'd charge for something like that. I mean, what are the chances? Other than Call of Duty, I can't think of a release that'll be as big as Mass Effect these days.

I thought about that same thing for quite awhile. Honestly, I want the same thing but I'm not expecting it. Your Gears, Halo and COD are your games for the masses. Nothing against either of those, but as a "brand", I think they are more well known and expected to sell. The Star Wars one is pure fanboy cash in, that's a known seller. The RE5 was a bit of a standout, but they may have been banking on the motion picture appeal. Plus I had honestly forgotten they ever did that.

All of this, plus the timing has my expectations.tempered. The game comes out in March...not exactly a high time for selling consoles. I bought the Gears one myself, upgrading from my 4 year old original 360 (with only one rrod) to the new.slim. If this somehow happened I'd have to buy one, but the slim chance didn't feel worth missing out on the Gears pack.

Well, I'm getting Battlefield 3, but I'm not planning on activating the online pass before I sell the game. Oh well!

I wouldn't bet on a Mass Effect console either, as cool as that would be. Even Resident Evil is a much more popular series.

Wait, you're playing BF3 just for the single player ... ?

Wait, can you activate the online pass outside of the game? If so, I need to talk to someone about getting that pass just for the Mass Effect demo.

While I don't plan on playing much, if any, battlefield multi, I'm activating the online pass just for the ME3 demo early access. Its worth it to me.
