Metal Gear Solid 4 & Metal Gear Online - 8/6: Rumored Trophy Update Out Now? Rumor!
espy:

Yes, that exactly what it's for. Also, I forgot to mention it on the other post. The Solar Gun is absolutely necessary as well. Also mainly for the Act 3 chase, but also for one shot downing of Vamp, and two shot downing of the Beauties.
Solar Gun doesn't count as a special item? Hmm! If you hit a Frog with the Solar Gun, unpowered, it will knock them out right with one shot during the Act 3 chase? Probably start with the shotgun then switch to the Solar Gun. Very cool man. You should write a guide.

I can't take credit where it isn't due. The bike chase in Act 3 was driving me insane and I had to use the tips on the MGS4 message board on Gamefaqs to get through it along with making sure I'd prepped myself with everything needed. I'd recommend reading the BBE tips and solutions topic if you want to give it a try.

This really doesn't really pertain to MGS4, but it does to MGS1. I was playing it first since I've not played any others and I want to get the story before going to MGS4 and not play any of the others.

Anyways how do I save data from MGS1 to my PS3? Is there a memory card slot that I am overlooking?
Create a PS1 virtual memory card in the Memory Card Utility part of the Game Tab in the XMB.
Thanks.
Runner L2. Runner I think is essential for CQC, especially when you're dancing around cover after someone's seen you. It gives them less time to react to you changing approach, and sometimes I will go the long way around something and approach someone from behind because they're still waiting for me to make a frontal assault.

Additionally if you're chasing someone that doesn't see you, it makes it much easier to catch up to them to grab them. Runner is useful in every game mode, I think.

I'm considering Runner L3 once I get it (22 hours equipped and still L2). I like CQC L3 just because I think disarm is fun to play with, but CQC almost always gets me killed. Sometimes I'll throw when I meant to chokehold and vice versa.

I have Knife L1 because sometimes I need to move and slash at the same time, I also find it helps with the recovery speed from a missed attempt but I might be wrong. L2 I think is optimal, sometimes I'll do Knife L2 and Runner L2. But Knife L3 is a waste of slots.
Figured Runner would have to be a must. I need to be able to catch up to people and take them down. Fun to dance around the sprayers too.

I know the feeling about throwing people down instead of choke-holding. Happens almost everytime. At least with CQC Lvl. 3, after the throw, you can pump them with a couple Mk. 2 bullets and knock them out pretty quick. Not sure if that's versatile enough, but I'm going to try it out.

Blades Lvl. 3 is definitely a waste. The only point I see for it is to slice people's throats open, and that isn't even that good, to be honest.
Here's a few tips if you want to try it:
Pregame (Do this in a non-expert playthrough)-
Stock up on at least -
10 smoke grenades
10 smoke grenades G
10 smoke grenades B
10 stun grenades
50 anesth ammo (pistol and Mosin Nagant)
50 emotion ammo Y (pistol and Mosin Nagant)
50 emotion ammo R (pistol and Mosin Nagant)
50 emotion ammo B (pistol and Mosin Nagant)
50 emotion ammo G (pistol and Mosin Nagant)
have at least 2 Chaff Grenades from a previous playthrough. Preferrably more
have the one handed Sawed of shotgun
The Solar Gun from collecting all five statues of the B&B corps and the FROGS statue from Act 1
100 round V-ring ammo
****Most important****
get the Ipod song "Rock Me Baby" (on one of the island's in the South America section after the Power Station). This is how you heal without using any rations, noodles, or regains. If you play this song and lay down perfectly still, it will start to heal you

General tips:

-ALWAYS SAVE. Save everytime you enter a new area. Keep at the very least a clean save at the beginning of each act in case you screwup.
-Avoid all combat if possible and know how to get to the exit of the area quickly.
-Wear face camo at all times and always take the time to adjust to the new surface.
-Know the enemy locations. I didn't attempt this emblem until my 6th run through the game.
-The Beast forms of the Beauties do not count as kills so the Rail Gun and anti-material rifle are your friends.
-The rail sections (w/ Drebin in Act 2 and Big Mama in Act 3 are hard as you can't heal; Act 3 chase is hardest part in entire Big Boss Emblem attempt)
-You don't have to always crawl. If you know you're out of the enemies sight, crouch-walk or run if possible; anything to shave off time.
-Conserve your Anesth rounds. They come few and far between and you cannot buy any.
-FROGS will be knocked out (not for very long, but still knocked out) with a headshot with any emotion ammo. Very useful during the fight in Act 1.

That's really all I can think of. If you have any other questions about it I'll try to answer them.
Wow that is awesome. Thank you.

I am doing a no alerts, no kills, no continues playthrough right now on Solid Normal. Once I complete that I am going to attempt to obtain the Big Boss emblem. It is reassuring to know that Act 1 is one of the hardest parts, I thought I just sucked.

Oh and you can't buy anything on The Boss Extreme difficulty?

You can buy stuff on Extreme just not any type of ammo or weapons that knock out instead of kills.

Also, you probably know, but the lighter the weapon you have equipped, the faster you run. So if you're trying to get somewhere fast, equip nothing or the lightest of your weapons, you'll move faster.

I think CQC L3 does 1/4th stamina damage with a throw (at least it does from a CQC grab, I'm not sure how much a direct throw does), and I think each non-headshot Mk. 2 dart does 1/4th as well. If you're going for a stun knock out, you can also do stun damage by rolling into them. Sometimes it's a lot.

Slicing people's throat is okay except for that fact you need CQC L1 to do it, which means you have no slots left.

I finished that damn metal gear rex paper thing.
Didn't take as long as I thought, but I have never done one of these things before or even a model. there are actually a few small pieced missing, but I was having trouble with all the tiny folds, I might do them later. I'll post a picture maybe later.

Did something happen between now and launch? I've noticed that more and more games I'm playing I am killing like no one. I'll spot someone, begin to shoot them with Automatic Rifle, then they'll just turn around and kill me in one shot.

I know exactly what you are talking about. That weekend after the game came out I was usually in the top three spots. Now I end up near last most of the time.

Autosnipes... In the last week or so everyone is using them, since they figured out they are cheaper than the ak and are cheap as fuck (as in any retard can own you now). Anyone who is in thetop 3-5, you'll see they are the autosnipers.

what is autosnipe? Haven't played mgo yet so dunno.

found another typo!
in the description for the 50cal anti-material sniper rifle, the first line reads "anti-materiel" At the end though it says recommended by Hideo Kojima, and I must say, it is a fun rifle to use lol.

Its a sniper rifle in the game, but it is pretty much a rifle. So imagine someone sniping you, but with a assault rifle from accross the map.

That explains it. I've never turned on the auto-aim. I've always felt auto-aim takes away from the experience. For a second there I thought everyone on the net became a pro in a week.

not auto-aim, auto-snipers, the m14e...something gun, its 750 pts. Everyone is using it, its utterly cheap.

When I accidentally turn on auto-aim with square, i cant hit anyone. Its only useful I think when knifing...espy.

edit: oh Kanik, I'm also in for bowling, psn.

You use an anti-materiel rifle against materiel, AKA vehicles and equipment.

It did bother me that they used hanger instead of hangar on quite a few occasions.

The M14EBR (Enhanced Battle Rifle). It's terribly unbalanced for the price. They really need to fix that. How in the world can an automatic rifle with a scope cost less than the AK? This is why I prefer non-DP games.

It's only useful when you're knifing me? Ouch.

Handguns and submachine guns have decent range with auto-aim. Assault rifles do not. However for the submachine gun it takes nearly an entire clip to kill someone, handguns takes 1.5 clips or so.

Auto-aim is useless, in my opinion, unless you're new to the game and playing with new people. I remember people would complain about "auto-aim noobs" back in the old MGO, but every kill someone with auto-aim would get on me, I could get five on them...easy. And that was before this far more accurate OTS aiming. Now, I am pretty sure I would destroy anyone actually using auto-aim, but they seem extremely few and far between.

Yeah, I remember those guys. AA was a very useful tactic in the old MGO and doing it right actually required a lot of skill. Some guys even went almost AA exclusive and were very good players. Not so anymore.

Yes, auto-aim was much, much more useful back in the old MGO. I would go for my headshots, but in a lot of situations, especially up close, I would just go auto-aim, because as you know, the OTS aiming was extremely inaccurate. You were basically shooting from the hip. Now, with the circle, there really is no sense in going auto-aim.

ok well in that case, that was in the L1 viewing summary. In the brief summary (weapons or drebin's shop window), it says anti-material. So...take your pick lol

No I was just saying that I assume you sue it. Now I hate those motherf*cking rpgs just as much as autosnipers. That dauth guy...ahh so cheap, no way to defend that shit.

Went on a No Kill run, finished in 2:58:58. Those credits are killer when it comes to speed run times. 16 and a half minutes. Just ugh.

Haha, I think Thongsy and I started that, dauth was using the autosnipe most of the time before that. I think dauth is friends with someone in the game.

Lol. You built up so many points doing a knife stun/kill and the rpg is just something fun to use. Cost 10,000 DP so it's rare, unless I forget and have like 20000 points so I have two spawns in a row. Yea, Dauth is a friend of mine, he protects my lame ass when I'm running around like a headless chicken. Personally I never could get the hang of the M14. If it starts being a big problem, I'll just disable the M14 so nobody can get it, in future games.

Pretty much. The only thing I spend money on is fire grenades, and SOP Destabs, so I have a lot of money to burn.At on point I had over 40k in points. My favorite part was when we stunned each other simultaneously and were racing to wake up first.

Yeah dauth is pretty good. I don't mind if people use the M14 but I can understand the complaints. I was surprised how many people in the last match actually agreed to knife battle.

Why do you lay down when you stab anyway?
I was surprised how many people in the last match actually agreed to knife battle.
Hell, so was I. I was just joking around when I said, "Knives!"

Although, knife DM's are pretty damn fun.

I don't think any legitimate player cares about what weapon someone uses. I was worn out by all of the "noob" comments you would see in the old MGO...shotgun noop, sniper noob, auto-aim noob, knife noob, camper noob, grenade noob, magazine noob...everyone who used a weapon or tactic that people couldn't defend against was a noob. Even now, I will sometimes get called a "camper noob," because I hide places and kill people.

My only problem with the M14EBR is that it is far too cheap. You shouldn't be able to start the match with it and respawn with it without actually earning it. If I need to get 4000 DP to buy the XM8, the M14 should be about the same price.

I do agree that it is severely underpriced considering what it can do. Perhaps it'll be fixed in a patch.

Bruce do you play with anyone in the thread? If so what's your MGO name?

No, I haven't really played with anyone from CAG, unless we have momentarily crossed paths in the auto servers. But I would like to latch on with some folks, eventually, simply so I don't get driven up a wall by my teammates' stupidity. Oh, my MGO name is TheOnlySnake, the same as it was back in the old MGO (and on the PSN and XBL), if anyone remembers me. At one point, I was ranked pretty high on TDM and nearly got to FH rank.
the nice thing with less voice chat is that you hear less people saying "noob"
LOL...so true. As much as I would like to see more people use mics on the PS3, you really don't know if it would be worth it. After more than a half of a year on the 360, I really don't know what people are talking about concerning this great community. All I ever deal with are children, racists, and potheads. I usually end up just pulling the plug on my headset. Yeah, it's great if you get some friends together, but the same can be said on the PS3. Most of my friends have headsets. The idea is, I would like to be able to actually sign up randomly and find some decent players who actually work out strategy. I don't find that on either console.

I always have to make my own games in MGO to be able to play. Every time I join someones game I get disconnected in the first 4-10 minutes. I don't know what the hell is up.

Well, I really like that everyone doesn't have a headset. SO usually the ones that are using ones are those that are really into the game and take the time to get one working, and they'll usually be the ones to talk strategy.

You woke up pretty fast, I still had a quarter of a bar to go when you killed me, that was awesome though, I need to work on my timing to stun since I usually have to do a throwdown before I can stun. The Destab battle was pretty fun, couldn't believe you got rid of my destab I set, didn't know you could do that, going have to watch out for that from now on.

I kneel to stun, than lay down to stab, seems to be easier and faster for me. While if I kneel to stab them, I have to make several swinging motions to kill them, while prone it's instant.

That last DM was pretty fun, without the full 16 it wasn't too difficult to stun and kill somebody without being shot at by a third party, though Bav kept getting double stuns on us.

The secret is to twirl both analog sticks. The animation says just the left stick, but both work. That's why I got up so much earlier than you. The stun knife works best when you know they aren't moving or if you know they're going to walk into you. But it's still risky, and not guaranteed like throwing people down, especially if they're running away from you since you have to stop moving to do it.

For SOP destabs, you can shoot them out once they're planted so even after you plant it, you have to stick around to protect it. Unfortunately, I can't toggle to a gun fast enough after I stunned you so I tried to poke it with a knife the first time you planted one so we got hit.

If you kneel, you just have to push R1 hard. Instant kill, also works standing, people don't have to be stunned. But like stun knife, you can't move when you do it and it has poor recovery. If you have auto-aim on, you'll automatically stab downwards.

I know, I think all my deaths that round were because of him. Fun time though.

I have to admit, that's what I usually do during DM's. I can't pass up an opportunity when people are piling on each other. xD

Host another game tomorrow, Thongsy. That room was awesome (except for that one guy that wanted to kick me for no reason. Maybe he got pissed because I was Snake twice in a row?).

I was only ever good at the knife only ones in the mgo beta haha

Had a lot of fun in a GAF game last night. For some reason at the end of one of the games we all laid down and started rolling furiously. I lol'd. Also got my first win as Snake.

That was probably why. Thongsy is there a way to set it up so if Snake wins he gets to be Snake again? I think that would be a cool system.

Can you guys seem me when I'm aiming the Mk. 2 as Snake? I don't get how people see me when my camou index is at 90%.
