Metal Gear Solid 4 & Metal Gear Online - 8/6: Rumored Trophy Update Out Now? Rumor!

This is why the beginning of Act 3 took so long for me:

As much fun as I have playing MGO, I am really hoping to latch on with some folks, because playing with random idiots can seriously send you up a wall. It amazes me how many morons think it is a good idea to walk around in the open, as if people are aren't dug in and just waiting to snipe. All I see popping up are SVD kills, and I want to just start killing my own teammates, so we can end the misery quickly.

Join the CAG clan or add people to your friends list, that way you can always see who's on and join their game. Some random games are good but a lot aren't.

So many times have I been killed thanks to my team mates. There's some really dumb people out there who have no concept of team work. One time I was sneaking up on a guy and one of my own team mates rams into me, making my character stumble. Not only did he run out and draw the attention of the enemy, that give him enough time to turn around and headshot me. :bomb:

And that's not to mention the multiple times I've been bumped and pushed out from around a corner by team mates, blowing my cover.

Oh my god, tell me about it!

I swear, some of the teammates I'm stuck with are SO stupid. I had an enemy in a chokehold and my dumbass teammate GRABS ME. The enemy escapes and precedes to get headshots on us both.

Then, in a later game, we were on Sneaking. I found the Snake player, got him in a chokehold, and guess what happened? Yep, my teammate GRABBED ME AGAIN. Thing is, it was a different guy! What were they thinking?!

Makes me so mad. :bomb:

Reminds me of when I accidentally knifed you. =) Sorry again about that.

Yeah I've played many games where my own teammate will give away my position by running into my cardboard box for no apparent reason, or will shoot me in the head when they're trying to kill someone I've already taken down.

I can deal with bad players and teammates, what pisses me of is lag. Especially when the connection is so bad you don't know when you die or how. And than have that whole double death thing going on that eats your DP alway. Lately I been playing a espy type style and it's pretty fun. Hard to do since you have to take a few seconds in the beginning to make the knife one of main weapons and be very sneaky to surprise people.

xD No prob about that, espy. Had to be an accident, since you took out an enemy with the knife before that. Figured you hit the knife button twice.

I remember something else that happened today. So, I'm knocked out and a teammate comes running up to me. I'm assuming he's going to pat me and wake me up, but instead, he starts shaking me down for all my items. There go all my weapons! What the fuck was the reasoning for that? :bomb:

Hoping you had a RPG? Lukily I never had that happen to me. What does happen is I'm being chocked out by the other team, and my teammates just run pass me after stopping for a second to look, or I'll be stun and they won't even bother to wake me up and just continue on their way. At least some times the other team ignores me too, so I'm just hanging around on the ground trying to wake up and than get a couple of kills since everybody ignored me there out in the open.

Here's a stupid MGO question:

When Drebin points are enabled how do you customize your weapon? I know you have to press Triangle, but I can't seem to go anywhere beyond that. The icons are just white, and I can't select anything else. When I do select it, it just goes away.
Triangle then X. Not every gun has attachments, so you have to weigh your options.
Do the silencers add anything or take anything away from any guns. It seems like less recoil. I really just do it 'cause I like the sound... Maybe I'll try a grenade launcher.

edit: Forgot to mention.... I F*cking hate those damn autosnipes!!!!!!

V:Silencers make the guns quieter and easier to shoot with less recoil and such.

pete: The Masterkey thing? It lets you esentially add a much better attachment to the weapon, like a shotgun attachment to the assault rifle. You should be able to afford one in the single-player game, so you can try it out there and not have to do really well in MGO to just afford it.

Not exactly sure, but I'd guess in the second area of that part.
No, you should play the games in the order they were released.
alright, i was just wondering, maybe i would get a better understanding if i played MGS3.

but thats cool, i'll start mgs1 today.

Yeah I hate that, too, especially when I think I've CQCed or stun knifed someone but two seconds later, I see it happening to me. When that starts to happen I just leave the game. I set my filter to show only good-connect games.

I have my config to Recall mode, I start equipped with the knife and alternate with my support (grenades). Once I run out of grenades, I typically switch between my knife and my primary (sniper rifle or submachine gun depending on the map).

You do have to be sneaky but sometimes you don't. The main key to getting someone during a frontal assault is to make them nervous. Dancing around cover (the longer the better) and grenades both help with this.

No matter how good you are though, if someone sees you from far away, the more likely they will drill you before you reach them. Shotgunners are the worst to CQC, because one hit, even non-lethal, will floor you and when you're on your back you can't use your knife. You'll always take a few hits usually when someone sees you coming after them.

Maybe he forgot to crouch and just kept trying. Or maybe he was being an ass, a lot of people that play are like that. I've actually had that happen to me once, too.

What does happen is I'm being chocked out by the other team, and my teammates just run pass me after stopping for a second to look, or I'll be stun and they won't even bother to wake me up and just continue on their way.
Happens to me in every game. The worst is when they kill the guy that stunned me, but they leave me laying there.

You probably don't have enough money for the attachments you're looking at. Some are really expensive.

What is the 10000 DP option on some of those 1000 DP guns? I've never gotten enough points to try it out.
You should get a 1000 DP for every time you die. If you don't spend it all, and manage to kill a person or two between each death, you can save up for stuff. Since my only expenses tend to be the fire grenades, I usually save up for an occasional RPG (or SOP Destab if it's available).

The masterkey is the shotgun. Hence the name Master Key, real world you would use it to blow out door locks or hinges.

I'm assuming silencers also reduce power though since that's usually how it goes. Of course, I can't back that up with anything unless we run some tests.

UGH, that game we were in earlier was making me so mad. That's why I hate playing in DP-enabled games. Everyone runs around with a M14 and the only way you can try to counter them is by using it yourself.

Out of curiosity then, what're everyone's favorite weapons and why?
Out of curiosity then, what're everyone's favorite weapons and why?
Online? XM8. No explanation necessary

Seriously though, I can consistently hit headshots from long range with it.
Out of curiosity then, what're everyone's favorite weapons and why?
I'm starting to hate all primary weapons and considering switching to straight knives/CQC.

But, if I had to pick one primary, I have to go with primetime's pick: the XM8 assault rifle. Feels smoother compared to the other assault rifles, at least in my opinion.
Online? XM8. No explanation necessary

I've used the XM8 in single player and don't see anything too special about it. It does have a higher power rating than some of the other ARs though.

I'm starting to hate all primary weapons and considering switching to straight knives/CQC.

What is it you hate about using them? I don't think I ever recall you using knives/CQC on me but we've only played a few games together.
What is it you hate about using them? I don't think I ever recall you using knives/CQC on me but we've only played a few games together.
My aim has become really bad with primaries. I spray in bursts and still can't manage to get a headshot in. I'll probably still continue using a primary weapon, but I'll go half/half with the guns/CQC. Much rather use the GSR pistol.

Still getting the hang of going all CQC, though. Only problem is that I'll just have to deal with my teammates taking my kills after I knock someone out now. :bomb:

It's M4 custom and Grenades for me (I'm really good with the grenades). M4 is powerful enough and has enough ammo to get the job done most of the time.

EDIT: Just found out PSN's going to be down from 8am-2pm Pacific tomorrow. I wonder if this affects MGO.

Has anyone else attempted a Big Boss Emblem run? I just finished doing it a few minutes ago. Really hard, but really satisfying. Here's a picture:

It does. You can't sign into MGO unless you're signed into PSN.

For me it's knife and fire grenades, with backup tranq rifle, sometimes an RPG if it's a Drebin game. Handguns I stick with the GSR as a last resort. This config lets me engage from most distances (until I run out of grenades anyway).

My aim has become really bad with primaries. I spray in bursts and still can't manage to get a headshot in. I'll probably still continue using a primary weapon, but I'll go half/half with the guns/CQC. Much rather use the GSR pistol.
I've always had that problem with headshots. What do you like about using the GSR?

CQC usually ends up getting me killed or like you, teammates "helping" you out when you don't need it and ignoring you when you do.
I've always had that problem with headshots. What do you like about using the GSR?
I just think I aim better with the GSR or any pistol, in general. Easier for me to line up headshots since there's less recoil.

What skill-set are you using, espy? I'm considering Lvl. 3 CQC and either Handgun+ or maybe Runner.

Same with me, I can't ever get the headshot in before I die. Depending on the map and spawn will determine what I use. It's usually an SVD or a P90, M4 if I trick it out with grip, light, and scope. Otherwise I'm adopting more of a CQC playstyle for now, just to change it up a bit.
Wow you are insane. I tried doing that but I kept getting alerts at the very beginning of the game.

Wait, how did you not use any recovery items?!
Here's a few tips if you want to try it:
Pregame (Do this in a non-expert playthrough)-
Stock up on at least -
10 smoke grenades
10 smoke grenades G
10 smoke grenades B
10 stun grenades
50 anesth ammo (pistol and Mosin Nagant)
50 emotion ammo Y (pistol and Mosin Nagant)
50 emotion ammo R (pistol and Mosin Nagant)
50 emotion ammo B (pistol and Mosin Nagant)
50 emotion ammo G (pistol and Mosin Nagant)
have at least 2 Chaff Grenades from a previous playthrough. Preferrably more
have the one handed Sawed of shotgun
The Solar Gun from collecting all five statues of the B&B corps and the FROGS statue from Act 1
100 round V-ring ammo
****Most important****
get the Ipod song "Rock Me Baby" (on one of the island's in the South America section after the Power Station). This is how you heal without using any rations, noodles, or regains. If you play this song and lay down perfectly still, it will start to heal you

General tips:

-ALWAYS SAVE. Save everytime you enter a new area. Keep at the very least a clean save at the beginning of each act in case you screwup.
-Avoid all combat if possible and know how to get to the exit of the area quickly.
-Wear face camo at all times and always take the time to adjust to the new surface.
-Know the enemy locations. I didn't attempt this emblem until my 6th run through the game.
-The Beast forms of the Beauties do not count as kills so the Rail Gun and anti-material rifle are your friends.
-The rail sections (w/ Drebin in Act 2 and Big Mama in Act 3 are hard as you can't heal; Act 3 chase is hardest part in entire Big Boss Emblem attempt)
-You don't have to always crawl. If you know you're out of the enemies sight, crouch-walk or run if possible; anything to shave off time.
-Conserve your Anesth rounds. They come few and far between and you cannot buy any.
-FROGS will be knocked out (not for very long, but still knocked out) with a headshot with any emotion ammo. Very useful during the fight in Act 1.

That's really all I can think of. If you have any other questions about it I'll try to answer them.

Is someone going to make a MGO only thread at some point? I want to join the CAG MGO clan but I don't want to search through 200+ pages.

whamm:

have the one handed Sawed of shotgun

Is this because of the Act 3 chase? I find the Mk. 2 is too slow.
Wow you are insane. I tried doing that but I kept getting alerts at the very beginning of the game.

Got any tips?

Wait, how did you not use any recovery items?!
Same. The first level is the most difficult for me to get through with no alert. The rest of the acts I can breeze through. You can only get Big Boss (and several other high level emblems) by using no recovery items.
What is the advantage of using a light? I've never been able to hide in the dark from anyone.
I just think I aim better with the GSR or any pistol, in general. Easier for me to line up headshots since there's less recoil.
If I'm headshotting, I need to spray and pray I hit something so the pistol isn't good for me in CQB unless I do auto-aim and start pumping ammo like crazy. The easiest way for me to get a pistol kill is to throw someone down, then walk behind their head and start firing. Most people have difficulty shooting while laying down if you're behind them.

What skill-set are you using, espy? I'm considering Lvl. 3 CQC and either Handgun+ or maybe Runner.
Runner L2. Runner I think is essential for CQC, especially when you're dancing around cover after someone's seen you. It gives them less time to react to you changing approach, and sometimes I will go the long way around something and approach someone from behind because they're still waiting for me to make a frontal assault.

Additionally if you're chasing someone that doesn't see you, it makes it much easier to catch up to them to grab them. Runner is useful in every game mode, I think.

I'm considering Runner L3 once I get it (22 hours equipped and still L2). I like CQC L3 just because I think disarm is fun to play with, but CQC almost always gets me killed. Sometimes I'll throw when I meant to chokehold and vice versa.

I have Knife L1 because sometimes I need to move and slash at the same time, I also find it helps with the recovery speed from a missed attempt but I might be wrong. L2 I think is optimal, sometimes I'll do Knife L2 and Runner L2. But Knife L3 is a waste of slots.

I also have have QuarterBack L2 (almost L3). I can throw a grenade so far that it explodes before it hits the ground. Not too useful but I can usually throw a grenade far enough to force a rifleman to throw off his aim which gives me time to make an approach.

Sometimes I'll switch out QB for Narc or that skill that spots traps but they level up so slowly and I'm not totally sure how Narc works.

The light blinds you. I've only recently seen a couple people use it against me, but it's pretty effective. I may have to adopt it into my game.

espy:

Yes, that exactly what it's for. Also, I forgot to mention it on the other post. The Solar Gun is absolutely necessary as well. Also mainly for the Act 3 chase, but also for one shot downing of Vamp, and two shot downing of the Beauties.
