Metal Gear Solid 4 & Metal Gear Online - 8/6: Rumored Trophy Update Out Now? Rumor!

Just played a few tiny sneaking games with two friends and it was pretty fun. It was tough being Snake at first because they kept pretty close, but then I figured out I could just pop out behind them and CQC them both pretty easily. I think three people VS Snake would prevent that and make the game much more interesting.

How many people do you need in a sneaking game for the Mk. II to appear?

10 or so, just a guess... I like playing sneaking games when there is no mk II though.

You need 12 or more. I hate being Snake in a "full game" as it's very hard to get three dogtags, at that point I perfer just to be the MK. II just so I can roll around and zap people.

Yikes, 12 sounds like it would be chaos. Seems like it would also be impossible for Snake to win, unless he was lucky enough to find someone lost in a corner.

I definitely preferred our small, slower-paced games over the machinegun-fests I played in automatching.

It does get pretty hectic, but really isn't that hard. Once you find a good spot, just plant some magazines and wait for your prey to fall into it. Only have taken one loss as Snake, so far.

It would just help if you had a smart teammate using the Mk. II. I usually get the dumbasses that go on by themselves and try and zap people to increase their scores. Then, on the chance that I get to play as the Mk. II, it's vice-versa; I get a stupid teammate playing as Snake. I stun a bunch of guys for them in a closed-off area that's safe to run to, tell them to come over there, and they never do. :/
Metal Gear Rex and Shagohod papercraft. Maybe one day I'll try it. Use cardstock paper.

Nice!

Snake has about six months to live. He was going to kill himself, because Naomi said that the old FOXDIE in him would begin to start killing non-targets in about 3 months. According to Big Boss, though, the new FOXDIE that Drebin put him (which is what killed EVA, Ocelot, and BB) has taken over, so the old one is no longer a threat. Eventually, the new FOXDIE would mutate, as well, but Snake will be dead by then.
oh jee, thanks! that makes more sense, than it did in the game :X

and.. in MGS 3,
you play as Big Boss? right? the original "SNAKE"

Yes, Covenent.

Played MGO last night and got snake in a CQC hold and I deliberately, slowlyyyy knocked him out. Then stood over him and shot him in the face for being a bad enough Snake to let me get him in CQC. Hehe.

Okay, so any tips on how to level up my running speed quicker? Speed is level two and I am a level five overall. I think I have almost 8 hours into it right now.

Argh, I've already messed up the kill-free game. I'm guessing while aiming at a Gekko during one of the chase scenes, I must have shot a couple people. I killed some guinea pigs as well (my sister has guinea pigs, so it was a bit of self gratification), but I dont think it would count killing animals.

Yeah, it's all about playing smart. It's still very doable in a big game...you just can't expose yourself.

Yes, Big Boss is the main character in MGS3: Snake Eater (then known as Naked Snake) and MGS: Portable Ops.

cool, i just started MGS 1, and beat Revolver ocelot, w00t. and i really look forward to the rest of the games.

and, for MGO, how exactly do you level up in that game?

i usually ended up in the top 3 places in the 7 games i played last night.
[spoier]I'm at the beginning of Act 4....

Dude, try to make sure you spell "spoiler" correctly to avoid things like this and preview/postview your post. It's not a big deal this time but could have really "spoiled" things for people in other situations.

Quick question. Does the MGO registration still require 2 different ID's besides your PSN name and still require they all three be different as I heard with the beta?
I'm trying to, but I'm not that good at it yet, my knife skill is still 1. But when I played today I was mostly shooting. It depends on my mood

Also that metal gear rex paper thing. I'm attempting to do it, not very far... I just got the head and part of the neck done. I've never actually done one of these or even a model for that matter, but I'll give it a shot.
I usually only play with a level 1 knife. 2 is okay, but level 3 knife is a waste of slots. I mostly use Level 1 knife so I can move and slash.

There's no way to really level it up faster than to just run around all the time.
I'm at the beginning of Act 4. Are the next two acts shorter or longer than Act 3?
I felt starting with Act 4, the gameplay went down the drain and the cutscenes took over. I mean, Shadow Moses was fun for the nostalgia and a somewhat intense boss battle (on my second and third runs, I figured out an easier strategy). But you aren't really sneaking away from enemy soldiers. Just Gekkos and Scarabs. Then there's another two boss battles afterwards which again was more combat-oriented than sneaking. It'll probably be short unless you're having difficulty fighting the bosses. Assuming you're not making a stealth run, you should be able to get through this act quickly.

Act 5 sucks as far as gameplay. The level is short, but takes a lot of sneaking to get through properly. In fact, trying to go for a no-alert run isn't such a bad idea just for this act. The boss battle will be part-nostalgic and kind of fun. Afterwards, you'll get to a part that could have been a cutscene instead, but I guess it makes the story more intense since you're in control. AND finally, you have your final boss battle before the story wraps up with even more cutscenes.

So a strategy I used on the Gekko's...

Anybody notice if you put two or three tranquilizers into the Gekko's legs on that target spot, they collapse? It's hilarious and made my Normal no-kill and no-alert run so much easier. If you put tranq's into the scarab's arms, they get dazed too, but that doesn't last very long. Fun stuff. Good to use in Shadow Moses and charging through the marketplace of Act 2. Don't want to accidentally kill civilians with explosives, so just tranq the Gekko.

I bought MGS 4 the fday it came out but this weekend is the first chance I've had to sit down and play it. It's awesome so far. I'm trying to get used to the controls and am amazed at how wide open the areas have been so far!

Sadly, yes it does

That game we played in last night had some of the worst people. In that one Rescue game, my last remaining team member just camped in the tower the entire game, he didn't make any effort to try to get the kerotan. My other teammates just kept CQCing each other too.

I took this picture in Act 1, Snake checking on his muffins:

^ lol

I'm looking forward to playing a couple of hours of MGO tonight with you guys. Hopefully someone can put a Base Mission in there.

Just finished it Today. EPIC!!!!!!! Actually, epic is too understated. I love how they actually were able to tie in all 6 previous games too. And I loved The Tony Almeida to Snake's Jack Bauer. You'll know who it is. That whole storyline was especially great. I'm gonna wait a week and play all 4 MGS's in sequence too fully absorb everything. I'm still kicking myself for not meeting Hideo Kojima at Uniqlo NYC last week. The man definitely deserves to be billed as "the voice of god". Every game now will be held to the standard "not as good as MGS4" as far as I'm concerned.

Damn that sucks. I hate when that happens. I was wondering where the last guy was. Figured he was camping somewhere, but didn't have a clue where, so we just waited and waited and well waited.

Do the CAG matches usually consist of DM and TDM primarily? The other modes are much more fun, IMO

When I host I usually put everything but Rescue in, because there will be one jackass who will camp and cause the game to go the full time limit while everybody else is already dead just so he doesn't get a death count against him, and I usually leave up that one map where anybody can pop out of anywhere, something madness because I always end up with like two kills and ten deaths from nowhere.

Damnit, getting no alerts is killing me. I given up on it and now I'm just going around headshoting every PMC in sight. It's much more fun this way. I played it stealthy the first playthrough, now I'm just rampaging through everything. :D

From what I remember of the beta, CAG matches always involve Teams. But it could be different now. At least they always try to have variety.

Depends on the host, but most will always include at least TDM.

Yeah, I gave up on a purely stealth run too, its just boring imo, playing that way. I'll sneak if I have to, but I like to run and gun as well. Infact, I might try and do a run and kill as many people as possible.

Anyone have fun with the photo feature :)?
that + face camo = fun

Also I noticed something in act 3 while messing around
Around certain corners you can notice the 3 robots tailing you, I tried various methods to kill them but none worked.

Once I hit level 2 I'm going to some real servers. I tried getting on the Snake server earlier, and it told me the server was full (at 950 it's full?). Go figure that one out. I need to upgrade my Rifle ability to level 2 though soon. Quarterback will be there soon. Probably 1 throw gives me Level 2 QB.

It's great. I mean we're given all these different weapons, all types of handguns and rifles and RPGs and anti-tank and SAM, but first time through all I really used was the traq gun and rifle, and M4 fighting bosses. Now I'm using everything, and having a blast. It's fun to do a stealth playthough, but it's also fun to destory everything and not worry about being spotted and ruining the no alerts.
So, is the fact that this game has Acts a spoiler?
This is a game? What?!?!?!?! Thanks a lot!

Also, if you're looking for another person to join your CAG game, I'm always down. I'm up to Level 5 and a pretty decent K/D ratio.

I might join in the on-line fun once I've gotten a little more practice in the game. I just made it to Act 2. My only complaint to this point:
I wish you could save your weapon status between checkpoints. I've had a couple levels where I spend a ton of Durbin pts customizing my weapons, I get cornered, die, and I have to do it all over again. It's a minor thing but it's been annoying to me so far.

Just run back to the last area switch you were at, go through, come back, and then save. That'll save everything you had at that time.

how do you get photos of yourself like Snake's muffins and the beauty riding Snake? I managed to get one but I was forced out of it when the beauty grabbed me. I just happened to hit the shutter button as I was goin back into normal gameplay view.

had lots of fun with the camera too, some things I came across on my second playthrough:

"What's this doing here...Naomi..."

handprints of some of the mgs4 crew. Hideo Kojima and Yoji Shinkawa with the largest panels. There seem to be a few repeats. You can also get the handprint camo here.

Just got through Act 3 with no alert/no kills.
goddamn the bike chase was annoying as hell. Redid that part like 10+ times. Always died at the same part where the frogs come down in the last stretch.

Camera has a 2nd option mode for extra fun, need a 2nd controller.

i think it was kind of an accident lol
I went to hide underneath a bed and she got down and set me on fire. I crawled out and rolled around to put it out, all the while she was still on the floor. Then after that somehow everytime I got up she would still be in the floor position crawling in place. Eventually she would get up, but everytime i got on the floor she would follow right away.

I got Raven in a crawling position too, but only after being on the floor for quite awhile crawling away from her. When she did get on the ground though, she got up as soon as I did.

EASTERNEUROPEECHOSBEACON_36.jpg

Don't think there are any places to crawl under for the rest of the bosses. Well i guess you could crawl under the tank for Wolf and she probably wouldn't be able to get you lol.

the pic that I have up there with Raven twisting her ankle, that one was where I threw her and took the pic as she got up. She gets up pretty quick though so it's kind of hard to shoot.
