Metal Gear Solid 4 & Metal Gear Online - 8/6: Rumored Trophy Update Out Now? Rumor!

I recall hearing that they do drop the F-bomb in the game. But it's a war story, soldiers curse up a storm. Just remember when you get a little uneasy about hearding the f-word, you're in a warzone gunning down human beings, and watching other humans get killed in-game.

Kind of sobering eh?
I'm curious what everyone thinks of the 'strong language' descriptor the ESRB put on MGS4. My personal preference is to avoid as much strong (F-word, etc) language as possible as I simply don't like to hear it. I've found that the description varies widely - Resistance, for example, I found nothing wrong with in regard to its language. Assassin's Creed had, what, two F-words? Not great, but certainly still within a PG-13 rating and my tolerance. GTA IV, Condemned 2, and many others are littered with it to the point that I won't play them.

Considering the near-absence of foul language in the previous MGS games, how far do you think they take it in the newest installment?
Don't really care as long as it's in the context of the story. I expect to here cursing in GTA why? Because that usually the way gangsters and some low lifes talk...

Hence why I stated that I just don't like to hear it. While many folks won't necessarily agree with me, I'm not here to debate anything. I'm just curious as to the content.

My mind does not dwindle on violence like it does on language and it annoys me to no end to have that stuff stuck in my head. It has nothing to do with me trying to state that violence is okay but language is bad. It's just a personal choice.

"I've completed the game twice, and am the author of the forthcoming [GamePro] review," Shuman said. "Ninety-minute-long cinemas in MGS4 sounds like an exaggeration. Like the other MGS games, MGS4 definitely has a cinematic quality. And yes, some of the cut-scenes in the game are elaborate and occasionally lengthy. But not a one, to my recollection, even approaches 90 minutes."

Yea, I agree. When I shoot someone in the knee caps I want them to shout, "Ouch! Fudge you! You shiving donkey!"

Maybe someone should stick with the various DS games featuring animal types ending in Z, ala Horsez or Dogz. No bad language there...

I went and picked up the MGSE collection because I'd never beaten anything other than Twin Snakes. I just finished up the Snake part of 2, and am now incredibly hyped for 4. I forgot how badass Metal Gear Solid is. Not looking forward to playing through 3 though, because I rented it when it first came out and I remember it being hard as fuck. Maybe that's because I was 12 though.

Well a newly opened gamestop still had some of the saga dvds. Does anyone know if i go in and cancel if they will ask for the dvd back? Id much rather get this off amazon so if i had to pay 5 bucks for just the dvd then so be it but id rather go in, cancel, and get my 5 bucks back.

Im in the same boat but my understanding is that subsistance made the 3rd game easier by giving the option of a new camera angle.

3 was a bit harder to start out since you don't have the convenience of the codec radar and all that other technology, but once you get into it you get used to it and it becomes slightly easier.

I remember the very first mission took me like 3 hours to finish cuz I was afraid to crawl out from under the building I was hiding under. I would spend the entire time shooting people in the ankles with tranqs lol.

I wouldn't say it made it easier, well yea it did. It made it fair imo. The final boss fight takes out that camera angle and switches back to the original and you'll see how much more difficult it was.

Yea, when I originally played 3 regular edition, it took me forever since I moved very slowly, and had to keep stopping and looking around in first person mode. And rarely did I ever use the rumble sensor thing since the battery drained and you coudn't keep it on all the time. Subsistence on the other hand with the improved camera angle made it fun again, 3 felt like a chore while subsistence was a blast to play.

Im using the six axis so i dont even get rumble:cry:. Hopefully ill have a ds3 by the time 4 comes out

Ok, just a food for thought type of question here, if you want to call it that:

Ok, so did Liquid entirely take over Ocelot's body and therefore gives him no control and so in a sense, is "dead"? Or is everything primarily being "channeled" from his arm? If it was only still from it's arm I'd find it pretty funny if Grey Fox still ends up being alive in MGS4 and cuts off his arm again. Or Raiden.

f50turbo (his question is just a spoiler from MGS2, not 4 so it's okay to look at it)

Liquid only seems to take over Ocelot's personality when Snake is nearby. However, considering that Ocelot's name is now Liquid Ocelot, we can assume that Liquid has a bit more control than before. But don't doubt for a moment that Ocelot still has an agenda of his own. It was more Liquid's style to create the PMC and Outer Heaven situation we see in MGS4, Ocelet would have just kept following his Patriot masters, unless he has some other masters that will be revealed in MGS4.

Ah the possibilities. Thankfully the early reports say that these questions will be answered in the game.

So, for clarification, Liquid wants to make Big Boss's dreams a reality and Ocelot is working for the Patriots in hopes of...a world order?
Yeah, my previous post was about MGS2, just taking extra precautions.

Technically we don't know what Ocelot is working for.
Unfortunately portable ops opened us to the fact that Ocelot is not a pawn of the patriots but is in fact a patriot himself ( or at the very least played a crucial hand in creating and choosing its current members) . His current sutuation in the partriots however is unrevealed.

Edit I am replaying thie series again and something finally hit me,
Johnny Sasaki is the Fox hound guy that doesn't go nuts because of SOP. It kinda makes up for having his clothes stolen in MGS1 though
Has there been any word of Mei Ling in this game? She better be in it...
I believe I read somewhere that she is in it. I'm more curious if Natasha from MGS1 is in it.

why are people complaining about 90 minute cut scenes? this is snakes last game. u know u watched the 15 minute trailers more then once anticipating this game. if u dont want to watch the 90 minute cut scene skip it and miss part of the story.

Does anyone think Snake looks like Jim Leyland?

For serious. I'd play the game for 20+ hours and watch 30 hours of cut scenes if I had to.

I just love MGS!

Heres the scan:
http://www.afkay.com/forums/images/stachescan.jpg

You guys still can enter before June 12th to win MGS:The Essential Collection.
Entered! I just used my CAG icon pic as it looked the most sinister and professional, but you can enter multiple times, so I might try something different later. I have a feeling that this has less to do with the stache' and more to do with the costume, lighting, photoquality, etc. But I'd love to see someone pull off a real authentic looking Snake with no fake moustache, mullet wig, etc...

Until you see official reviews posted, don't believe any rumors you hear about MGS.

Especially ones so ridiculous as 90 minute cutscenes. A reviewer has already come forth to debunk that rumor.

On the other hand 20 hours seems about right if all you did was burn through the game at top speed, like many reviewers do. If that's the baseline hours of gameplay, I suspect many of us will take a lot longer as we explore, take our time to sneak, and try out other game features like collecting weapons for Drebin points, or playing MGO.
Incase anyone hasn't heard or seen the scan yets. Gamepro's review on MGS4 has been uploaded.

5.00/5.00

PROS: One of the greatest games ever created, it satisfies in almost every way possible.

CONS: "Stress" concept is initially hard to grasp, a tutorial for newcomers would have been appreciated.

Awesome. Reading the Pros made me even more excited for it :D

Ahhhg, I can't wait for this fucking game. I'm definitely going to play some MGO, I didn't really get a chance to play during the beta.

Hopefully they'll have reconsidered the whole 4 konami IDs stupidity, but I doubt it.

But it's good to hear that MGS4 is getting good reviews, and that their only main complaint was that the stress system was a little confusing at first.

Considering that some of the critical reviewers out there say that this game gives the MGS series closure, I'm in for Snake's last sneak mission.

hi i know this is off topic but i didnt wanna create a new thread.
how long is MGS2? and MGS3,i just beat MGS1 again after about 7 or 8 years lol.
Has there been any word of Mei Ling in this game? She better be in it...
here's your answer... and yes this is a spoiler:

http://www.ps3fanboy.com/2008/05/28/new-mgs4-scan-reveals-characters-mei-ling-and-rosemary/

Not much of a spoiler though, at least for anyone who has played MGS1 and 2.

Considering that MGS is supposed to conclude everything in the Solid series, it makes sense that every character that had some impact on the story and is still alive would be back.

Good to see we'll finally get to see a grown up Mei Ling on screen and not just a codec, and damn she looks hot in the navy outfit.

And, since Raiden is confirmed in the game, it's no surprise that Rose is in too. I think it'll be just as interesting to see how Rose reacts to Raiden's changes as much as Meryl and crew reacts to Old Snake.
MGS2 is pretty damn short to be honest... it's mostly cutscenes. MGS3 will take more time but is worth it entirely.
When it was released, it was a "long" game (IMHO, I know there are ZOMG RPGZ for like 40+ hours)... But this was 8 years ago. That game was very ahead of its time as well.

I think I might just do a quick run thru because I love that game so much!!!

PS - check out the retrospective on MGS2... So freaking SWEET! :bouncy:
Because we were tricked into playing as an annoying blonde girl instead of Solid Snake.
You don't get to play as solid snake in 3 either...

Kojima should make a Raiden based game since snake's gonna bite the bullet.
