Metroid Prime 3 - Do Mother Brains' Have PMS? - 9.5 From IGN!
Strell - I think I sent you something last night but I don't know what I was doing...
Aye, you did. I sent one back to ya's.
This part gave me pause as well.
you'll reach a dead end where you need the grapple beam to go across the way and down a bit to reach a door. To the left of the gap is a wall with little bugs, etc. There's a small spot around there to bomb as the morph ball to get access to that wall and get over to the other side.
i feel you on that one... i was running back and fourth with my scanner going until i caught a little sliver of red, and finally saw the door.
Also, pulling the wiimote towards me never seems to work on the first try but I do like the interaction with door locks and levers and buttons and stuff. I also like the addition of voice acting and even though I suck at it right now I think the "lock-on but aim elsewhere" feature is going to be great. So far so good...
The key thing with the level pulling and other things (there will be a lot more later) is that it is NOT motion sensor based but IR-based. So if you keep the remote pointed at the dead center of the screen they all work perfectly. If you start to waggle around you lose contact with the IR sensor and it doesn't work. I think most people start waving furiously the first few times (I did too). It is really a more precise system once you figure it out.

Glad you've joined the party Javeryh. I think you'll agree with me that this game is about as close as you can come to HD-simulated-like-quality on a non-HD system...

Strell - was just on an hour or two ago, you owe me a voucher (unless Nintendo's slow Wifi back and forth is to blame).

Javeryh, I'll send you one later when I play.
So do I NEED Friend Vouchers? Might have to finally add people if I do...
If you wants the bobblehead, ship stickers, screen shot tool, the dioramas and a few of the concept art packs, then, yes, you do. I would certainly recommend getting 6 vouchers at a minimum so you can get the first 3 items.

A question for those who have gotten pretty far into the Valhalla:

I just got 2 more enegery cells from the Pirate Home World and have 2 (or possibly 3) more to find (one on Bryyo - I think I know where I just can't figure it out. Don't want a spoiler on that yet, so please don't say anything ;)). The thing is, I have 2 choices as to where to use the 2 cells I now have. I've gone a little in both directions in the Valhalla and can use the 2 cells either in the power generator thingy, or to lower the ramp on the other side of the ship. Without spoiling anything, does anyone know which is the more interesting destination? I plan to find the other 2 eventually and do both of course, but which would be good to visit first?

It doesn't matter. All the extraneous paths in Valhalla lead to extra missile and ship missile upgrades. There is also one energy tank somewhere, I think in a morph ball puzzle. You don't even need all nine to get what you NEED from the Valhalla. I think 4 of the cells are just for shits and giggles. Translation: more extra missiles and a couple of scans.

Oh, and for what you DIDN'T want a spoiler on, regrading Bryyo, if you get frustrated looking for it, I've got a help spoiler a few pages back you'll want to read. Trust me, it's arguably the most convoluted puzzle in the game, and the only part of the whole game I hated.

I started my slow but gradual hyper mode playthough. Yes, you earn more yellow credits for boss fights, red phazees, and events, but all scan tokens and friend vouchers are once-per-file only. I'll give away any extra vouchers I might have missed; that post in the friend voucher thread with the list will be very helpful! But I missed #1 twice now. :bomb:

Don't want to go there just yet, but does it have something to do with the large generator that you can lift with your ship and move somewhere (or so the scan said)?

Never mind - figured it out on my own. It wasn't that hard, really. There isn't much else you can do with that stuff. The only thing that threw me off was I thought for a while I needed a new weapon for that one part, but it turned out to be something else you do instead...

Another marathon session Friday night put me at about 18 hours and 87% done. Got the spiderball and
hazard suit
. Went back and got nearly all the pickups from the earlier places, except one that still says my suit isn't upgraded enough for it. I don't have much left so I'm not sure what it could be. I also got all the power cells and
did everything in Valhalla except for that last door I can't get through yet
.

(spoiler for first 10-15% or so)

(Spoilers through 2nd boss in Skytown.)

Alright, yesterday I just hit a very small part of the game that probably wasn't supposed to be a problem, but something with the controls was weird and it took me as long to do it as to beat
Ghor
. The freaking half-pipe. Literally, took me 10 minutes to figure out the timing.

Also, did anyone else think it was even slightly sad to see
your ship in such beat up shape? it just looked kind of pathetic, hobbling back down to the landing pad.
.

.
That was sad :(

Just beat Elysia. Saved just at the start of the
Pirate Homeworld
. This game is fantastic and makes me realize that if it had to be one or the other, Prime 3 over Bioshock was the correct answer.

I haven't gotten to play this as much as I'd like this past week but hopefully tonight I can get some action in. You know this game is good if it is keeping me from playing Bioshock....!

Ah, well, grapple beam IS motion-based as it is using the nunchuk. I was talking more about the switch/control panel puzzles as being pointer-based. The grapple beam fighting can get frustrating when going up against
Metroid Hatchers where you need to shoot them a bunch then pull off their tentacles and if you don't do it quickly you have to shoot them all over again. And all the while Metroids are trying to suck your face...
.

Ugh, not what I want to hear. The grapple is easily one of the most annoying things I've had to deal with in the game even through the first couple fights.

Oops. Anyway, there were times where I got real close to my tv, grappled, and exended past my couch and it wouldn't work. Needless to say that boss made me really pissed.
Is there any way to get around the "send friend vouchers to unlock things" system? Because that's just a wee bit impossible for me, and I sure as hell don't want to miss out on anything...
Beat the game. Download a save and replace it with your own.

I am stuck in the part in bryyon where when you use the scan visor it says "security system is active, and a round object can fit here". I know it's the morph ball, but how do I get up there. I went to the door, scanned and it says it's locked. Please help:cry:. BTW, any other places i might get stuck in the planet?

I am not 100% sure on this, as I'm further away then that..but if it's where i THINK you are at..then try this:

Go into a morph ball, and set a bomb. It should pop you up right in there..then drop a bomb in there

Again if it's not, I do apologize. Hope that helped !
Oops. Anyway, there were times where I got real close to my tv, grappled, and extended past my couch and it wouldn't work. Needless to say that boss made me really pissed.
The trick is short, snapping motions. Flick the nunchuk to cast the grapple, be really still while it's attaching, and the snap your wrist up quickly and deliberately. You really need to be still while it's grabbing on, because I think once it's attached, it sets the reference point to whever the nunchuck is at that moment. In other words, if you tilt the nunchuk back too early, you'll have to flick it even farther backward for it to register.

Another marathon session and I'm 95% done with just the last part left. Unfortuntely, from the Gamespot walkthrough it seems I'm past all the possible locations for pickups and I still have 5 left . By the way, I got a message at 75% that I unlocked a better ending. Apparently, according to Gamespot, 100% gets you an even better one (unless they are wrong and 75% is all you need). For those who want to do a lot but not obsess over 100%, though, 75% is a nice goal.

I know I've cleared out Norion, Bryyo, and Elysia. So where the hell are those last 5? I guess they would have to be on
the Pirate Homeworld (as I'm fairly certain I've cleared out the Valhalla too)
. Though it seems like I wouldn't have missed that many there.

Anyway, I'm over 20 hours now. I can't see how some of you got such low times, especially if you got 100%. I could see it being much faster if you didn't scan everything and didn't go back for any pickups (I also revisited the
Vahalla several times - each time I got a new energy cell - you could save time by waiting till near the end on that of course)
. But trying for a complete scan set (except I apparently fucking missed a lore on the Olympus, dammit) and 100% of the pickups is fairly time consuming.

I finished this the other night. I think I'm gonna trade it in today while that EB 40% deal is still going. It was great but I just don't think I'm going to play it again.

There were a couple on Bryyo that I forgot about until I actually went back to that damned 'secret' area. You've already activated the map systems for all the planets to check your completion? Also, on the Valhalla, did you get the missile pack in the elevator room?

So, my friends let me know something that maybe everyone else knows but I somehow missed.

In morph ball, flick the remote up to hop. No need for a bomb.

So you went through the whole game without using the morph ball jump? I guess it wasn't really necessary, but it sure made double bomb jumps a lot easier (when they were even necessary).
So you went through the whole game without using the morph ball jump? I guess it wasn't really necessary, but it sure made double bomb jumps a lot easier (when they were even necessary).
I'm not done yet, but the better part of 1/2 way thorough, yeah.

Oh yeah, well I was talking about CouRageouS. I didn't know how far you were, but he was definitely done. :p

Yup I beat it without using it. I can think of two parts where I really coulda used it, one was an energy tank and the other a missle. Oh well...
its not like the energy tanks matter at the end anyway, right?

i'm 98% done with the game and i'm ready to go fight the last boss. i'm assuming that it's possible to be 100% at this point. but i'm hoping that the last 2% will be to come. i've loved this game. i may actually like this game enough to want to go through it again. the puzzles. the controls. couldn't be happier.

If you're like me and you've checked the maps and you know you have everything on Bryyo, Elysia, Norion, and the Pirate Homeworld, you're missing two expansions in Bryyo Ice that don't normally show up on the map. If you go on through the wormhole you can't go back and get that 2% so I hope you see this before you do it.

i've actually already got the ones from bryyo ice. but i've decided that i'm going to go through the uncharted areas and find those damn things. i'm too close not to. and there isn't too much area to cover.

I dunno if this is really a spoiler, but whatever, there are
3 or 4
total expansions in Bryyo Ice. If you've never done the thing in Skytown so that you know where the expansions are then it won't help you, but yeah, if you've gotten everything it says on the maps and you've been through Valhalla (most of the expansions there are pretty obvious, there are only a few) then they've gotta be there.

I just got to the Pirate Homeworld. Do I need anything else to be able to get to the thing at Skytown that tells you where everything is? If not, can someone spoiler it for me as to where it is.

It's called the Chozo Observatory and you'll need the Spider Ball

Finished the first segment of Bryyo... good pacing of the save points, looks like I'll be able to get to a decent stopping point at least once an hour or so.

Apparently I missed the part where you're told that Talloric (sp?) rock is susceptible to morph ball bombs, had to hit up an FAQ to get that connection.

What do you do to get up the security system? it's something about the morph ball. but when i go to the secret passage on the west which leads to a ship, i can't jump that far. You can get the Bryyo and Norion maps without needing the Spiderball - so you can get those pretty early. Just need the spiderball to get the Elysia map

In the Grand Room (I think that's what it's called) with the two symbol locks, you need to pull a ramp down with the grapple. I believe that's across from the green door. With that ramp down, you'll be able to jump from ledge to ledge towards the center object. Once there, you'll find a place to drop in as the morph ball. That sets one symbol. Once that symbol is set, another platform will lower, allowing you to jump around ledges once again but this time reaching the top of the center object, where another morph ball opening awaits, allowing you to unlock the second symbol.
Hope that helps. Someone else can provide more detail if necessary, I'm sure.

i already had the ledge down. and jumped right in front of the locked door. I didn't see anything to drop into last time i played, but today i'll see. Maybe i have to bomb it or something?

You only find out that stuff in your log, by reading the descriptions of the weapons and items.
You only find out that stuff in your log, by reading the descriptions of the weapons and items.
Bah, I'm too lazy to do that. Guess I'll have to start.

I need help finding the last item on Norion.
It's in the U-shaped room at the beginning and it says I need to recharge generator B, so I can move this thing out of the way and get the item. But Generator B is empty. I've already killed the Metroid Hatchling and done everything I can in that room. So how do I energize Generator B and get that last item?
Bah, I'm too lazy to do that. Guess I'll have to start.
Or when you scan something and it says it's a type of metal just hit it with everything you've got. If nothing destroys it, you can't damage it yet and you can remember to try again when you get a new weapon.

OK, I'm trying to get 100% before I go to the end. I'm right at the point where I head towards the point of no return (destroying that Phazon plant thing and going through the door - from the Gamespot guide it seems that is as far as you can get before the end).

However, I only have 97% of the pickups. Yet, using this guide:

http://www.gamespot.com/features/6177947/p-30.html

it seems I have every one of those damn things. I have 250 missiles available, I have all 14 energy tanks, and I have the 9 ship missiles. Though maybe since there are 9 ship missile expansions, that means I should actually have 10? And for the regular missiles, it looks like there are 50 expansions to find. But you start with 5, right? So does that mean 255 is actually the max number of missiles you can carry? That just seems like an odd number and 250 (which I have) makes more sense.

So, possibly, I have one more missile expansion and one more ship missile expansion to find. I'm positive the first 3 planets are clear (went through every area last night and found an energy tank hiding in a part of the map you don't see very often on Bryyo because you need to warp there - don't forget to go back with the spiderball). That leaves the Pirate Homeworld. I guess it is possible there's one of each left. But that STILL leaves one more. You don't get the last one somewhere in the endgame, do you? That is my big question to those who finished with 100%. The Gamespot guide says make sure to get 100% before heading to the end, so I'm thinking I need to have 100% already... Just want to be sure before I waste hours looking for it.

And just to be clear, I already have the
hyper grapple beam from beating Omega Ridley at the Pirate World seed
.

The point of no return is actually a bit after that.
You board a Leviathan floating above the Pirate homeworld, and at that point you're off to the coolest area in the whole damn game, and an awesome little twist to the gameplay. Make sure you have the codes from the Valhalla to activate the Leviathan seed from that room beyond the Phazon plant thing.

Use that
Chozo observatory
to find get the rest, but keep in mind that it doesn't directly cover 1)The Valhalla and 2)
that snow area on Bryyo you teleport to that had the screw attack; you actually have to travel there to see the map for that area, and the dots will be present once you get there (there is an energy tank and one ship missile there, I think...)
. You do end with 255 missiles total.

You got all 9 energy cells? Those count too.

But wait, the observatory doesn't cover the Pirate homeworld, does it? I went back and accessed everything I could and did not get it for that. Unless it opens up later (I was there with the spiderball). It would be immensely helpful if it did, because I think the last thing I need is there (I'm now at 99%). I did find 2 more (both ship missile expansions - by the way, looks like you can hold 11, or 12 if that is the one last thing I'm missing). Yes, I have the energy cells and everything from Valhalla as far as I know.

The energy tank in the
snow area
was exactly what I was talking about in my post - it is the "tricky" one you need to go back for at the end. If I could have had the map for the Pirate world that would have saved me a few hours. But I swear I checked out the whole observatory...

EDIT - NEVER MIND (on the map)! Went back to the observatory and found it. It doesn't open up till near the end (well after spiderball).
fucking tiny blue square at the base of the observatory that you need x-ray visor + nova beam to activate. THAT opens up the pirate world map. The one I was missing was the one I thought might be - a missile expansion floating in the scrapvault. I saw that on the Gamespot walkthrough and didn't remember getting something like that. I went through there a few minutes ago and didn't hear it, so I'll have to look around. I'm heading there now and then finishing the damn game finally! Got it, it was way up high so you don't hear it and it is pretty hard to spot if you aren't looking. But it was easy to get.

I also can't find the second-to-last pirate lore, and I'd like to get that. Anyone have any ideas about that one? (Edit #2 - Found it, in case anyone else is looking for it, it is somewhat tricky since it is in an area you don't need to go once you have the ability to do so.
It is on the upper walkway of the Command Center, where all the rain is falling. Once you get the hazard suit there's no reason to go up there - you go through the middle of the plaza but never need to get into morphball, go through all the tubes, and end up on the upper walkway. I would never ever have found that one without a FAQ.
. Kind of sucks, now I have all the lore but one that I must have missed on the Olympus.)

Made a quick attempt at the endgame and died
from Phazon overload from some creature that grabbed me and bit me over and over. I took it very slow on my way, though, trying to scan everything. Next time through I know what to scan (for logbook) and what not to, so I should have more "health", if you can call it that ;). Plus I'll make more use of the puffer dealies that drain your phazon.

death. i'm up to 99% and that last 1 has got to be on valhalla. i've checked everywhere else. my plan is to come home from work and search that whole damn place until i've found it. i spent some quality time making sure there was no other areas i could warp to other then the one.
