Metroid Prime 3 - Do Mother Brains' Have PMS? - 9.5 From IGN!

Just beat the game at 100% The only time I used any help online was when I read about the Chozo observatory in this very thread.

Out of curiosity, did the other Metroid Prime's have anything in them similar to the Chozo observatory? I beat them both at 77%, but if there's a way to get all the hidden goodies to show up on my map I would reload my games right now and finish them up. Scavenger hunting is fun.

No, the rest of the Primes made you work for your 100%. This is the only Metroid ever that has done this.

I gotta admit, when I first fired up this game... the first hour or so (such as the Hunter "surfing" on ice...ugh...) made me want to turn the game off. But man o man, has it redeemed itself later on. I love the level of immersion.

Crap I forgot to post in here yesterday that I traded it in. Please don't send me any vouchers anymore. I checked one more time before I left yesterday and someone sent me one I couldn't compensate for. Sorry!

Oh boy...this one's gonna take me a while. I've already got that OC, "must scan every possible thing". The advanced controls are gonna take me a while to get used to. I keep forgetting I'm controlling my view with the Wiimote.

you can lock on and then aim outside of the box.... to be honest, I set it to advanced before I even started so I;m not sure just how different it is than default

If you sit down and think about how it should control before hand, you can adapt quicker. You can switch A+B between Fire and Jump. Advanced controls work a lot better than default.

I need 4 green tokens.

Hadn't played since Wednesday as I'd gotten swamped. Put in 2:45 tonight and finished of Elysia (Sky Town).

Didn't struggle at all with the seed boss Helio there, unlike Mogenor on Bryll which took me a good 3 hours to beat!

I'm definitely loving the game. Game time on the save is 10:44, adding up the time in the Wii log puts it at around 18:10 (that would include time lost to deaths, cutscenes etc.--whatever else is not counted by the game save).

Standard is the same, advanced just makes the cursor more sensitive and truning faster.

You have to turn the lock/free look setting to off for it to not allow you to aim outside the box and just lock on like in the first two games.

CouRageouS reminded me, people can stop sending me vouchers as of now. I dunno if I'll continue playing it to see if I can get everything, but I haven't checked to see if anybody has sent me any lately.

ahhh, i beat the game today. i'm trying to decide if i'll sell it before i give it another run through. for me, metroid is all about solving the puzzle and finding the hidden secrets. so the second time is never as fun.
i'm sad to admit that i did look for the 100th item online. i was only able to complete 99% of the game without help. and i could have found that last one. i just didn't do a good enough job of looking.
i loved the road to the end boss. i love it when games end well. i hate wondering if this is the end boss or if there is more game to come. which happens far too often. and i enjoyed the end boss so much. i was able to beat it the first time through. which really doesn't bug me. especially since i chose the easiest mode. and there are two harder modes now available if i want a challenge.

i want to go through how i finally finished off the boss, but i can't think of a way to do it without spoiling a usefull tactic. but i was very very close to death when i did it, and then the enemy was sitting there moving somewhat slowly and me very close to his weak point. i aimed and pressed down on the d-pad and it was over. so good.

i want to discuss everything that happened after you beat the game. perhaps we should start a thread without fear of spoiilers?

I think I might suck at this. I played for another hour last night
(I just activated Generator A on Norion)
and I just can't seem to get the hang of moving around, aiming and locking on. I'll get better I'm sure but it's a pretty steep learning curve... and yes, I'm playing on the "Advanced" setting as everyone recommends. So far I really like this game though - there's a ton of scanning but I guess that's to be expected...

Has anyone experienced the boss bug that's been posted on a few of the gaming blogs today? I'd link it, but I don't want to end up spoiling anyone.

Looks like it has to do with a late game boss completely locking into a single place and not taking any more damage, but I can't really tell.

Wow I just got this game yesterday and all I have to say is Wow.

They really did a great job with this game. The controls are great and really make you feel like you are there. The graphics are simply the best I have seen on the Wii. Also oddly enough it looks better if you play it on a SDTV. I also like the fact that they did Voice overs in this one. That is a big plus for me.

Just spoiler tag which boss it is - I'd like to know. But unless it is in the very last area, I'm past it (with no problems so far).

I didn't know, cause I didn't get there yet, but it seems to be
Omega Ridley.

Yeah, I'm past that. I had no problems (and I don't think anyone else in this thread has either or we'd have heard). Can't you just reset and do it again, though if there's a problem? You should have a save right before that point. This battle is at the
Leviathan seed on the Pirate Homeworld
, so pretty close to the end. In any case, this battle is not that hard, if you know what to do (for the longest time I couldn't figure out what I needed to do at one phase and just kept pounding on him for a long time with no effect). I was at high risk for any bugs by doing that as I spent far too long fighting him .

Took a look at the video - he's frozen in his "charge" stance. He should be charging forward to bite at that point I think. Looks like there's nothing that can be done but quit and reload. But like I said, it is no huge deal (as long as it doesn't keep happening). You should have a save right before getting there and the battle is not that hard.

Seconded, because I just beat it with 100%, and I've got to say, I don't really "get" the extra, post-credits scene. Anyone more perceptive than I am care to enlighten me? Within spoiler tags, of course.

Probably just a sly hint at some future Metroid game Nintendo or Retro is working on, just like the bonus videos from Prime 1 & 2.

Come on, Metroid Dread... on the DS... or kickass 2D graphics on the Wii...

OK, so which diorama is the best one to purchase? I snagged #4 randomly, and was not that impressed (it is the Steamlord and some maintainance bots - it is OK, I just hope there are better ones). Since I need to conserve my stupid yellow tokens, I'd like to know which ones might be cooler.

And are any of the soundtracks the one from the fight with Rundas? My 4 year-old son likes that song (he asked me why it was playing "cute" music during the boss fight since most of the tunes are more ominous). It doesn't appear from the titles that it is available. If so, that is too bad as that was one of the best. But maybe it is just called something strange.

Put in a little bit of time last night after the wife and 2 month old went to bed. I'm crawling my way through the game, but such is my time for it these days.

Still on Elysia, assembled 2 of 3 parts of zee bomb, then had to save cause it was late. Just picked up the seeker missles, encountered my first group of ... well, the name of the game. Also activated the observatory. So far, so good, though looking at my maps, I see I missed a bunch of stuff.

The second one, I think, is kinda cool. It has Samus sitting on a throne in Bryyo with a few lizard creatures bowing to her. :bouncy:

I think the first one is Samus' kill shot to Ridley from Norion. I'd check, but I'm at school for the next 6 hours.

And you do get more yellow tokens for a second play through on that file, if you plan on doing hyper mode.

My Wii spontaneously reset itself right after I
fought Meta Ridleyand was running out to stop the meteor
and I had to do that entire section over. I only lost about 20 minutes of gameplay but WTF? Has this ever happened to anyone before?

Did you get the B.L.O.D. (Blue Light of Death)?

Just kidding. ;)

The game locking up on a boss is interesting, but this certainly takes the cake.

Though I'd be more inclined to believe it's potentially more electrical related. It takes a serious software bug to completely bounce a box. Not saying it's impossible, just implausible. Maybe you lost power for .5 seconds.

That's what I initially thought but nothing else was affected at all like the TV or stereo or lights in the room going dim - nothing. The Wii just reset itself. I played throught the section again though with no trouble at all so I'm inclined to believe it was electrical related but either way it's weird and I hope it doesn't happen again...

I am def lost and all kinds of confused right now ...
Let's see. I am not that far in the game still. I had to lead Elsyia and go find the screw attack..and that's what I did. Then I was told to go to Valhala..and when i got there I used 1 of my energy cells..and then found another one there. It LOOKS like in order to go further, I have to find Energy Cell #3. I scanned some compuer thing and it says that Energy Cell is on Norion. I go to Norion..and where the Generator B wasn't accessible.. I am able to get there now thanks to the Plasma gun :D.. So I go that way..and I'm at where I can dock my ship (Cargo Dock B, is it?) I just fought that blob that blows up when you destroy those metroid things. The door the blob reveals is a door with like 4 yellow circles..and when I scan it, it says that I need to hit them simultaneously.....sooo..now what to do?! am I missing some upgrade??
Any help with this.. much appreciated it. I hope I made myself clear on my whereabouts and stuff..thanks :)

Funny because it sounds like you're farther along than me in some parts, but you haven't picked up one of the upgrades. So I guess we're doing things out of order against each other.

If you haven't been into East Skytown and visited the area suspected of "pirate activity", per one of the broadcasts, that's where your necessary upgrade is waiting to open that now phazon blob-less door. I think. I'm a bit confused, because I'm trying to figure out how you'd be advancing without picking up the seeker missle upgrade, unless you have it, and this particular lock uses something completely different.

Hopefully that helps you out. I may have even confused myself.

Yep, you need another upgrade before you can continue to that spot on Norion. Frankly, I don't know why the game tries to sidetrack you with the Valhalla at this point, but you've most likely done all you need to do there and can head back to Sky Town.

Yeah, that annoyed me as well. It shouldn't pop up on the map with instructions to go there so early.

OOOH!! Am I NOW supposed to go BACK to SkyTown to use my fancy new screw attack/wall jump that they sent me to get WHEN I reached the shiny green wall?!

Man, I love this game..but the way they are making you travel around the damned galaxy is kinda annoying lol

I found a spot where you can get more yellow tokens (possibly unlimited). Go back to Sky Town and make your way towards the area that has "storage" (can't remember the actual name but it has storage in it) room in it. On the way there you will encounter one of those glowing balls of phazon. Go into hypermode and kill it, which will spawn at least two more. If one of them is red (scan it as well to get another red token), you can kill it and get a yellow token for it. I was able to do this in two different areas heading for that storage room.

I know those creatures are also in a section of Bryyo later in the game, so you may be able to find red phazon there too. The Bryyo area has a ton of the phazon creatures. I was just avoiding them when I went back there so I'm not sure if they spawn red phazon regularly or not.

Are there scannable items/enemies that are one-time only, either due to the enemies appearing only once or areas becoming inaccessible as you progress? I'm starting to recall that's why I never really enjoyed going through MP since I got so consumed with making sure I'd scan everything. I lost the fluidity of gameplay.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that is the case. I mean if you don't scan the bosses before you defeat them or the upgrade items before you obtain them, you won't have a chance to scan them again until/if you play through another time.

I missed scanning the Screw Attack because I thought it was one of those boost ball things or an elevator or something. I know I missed other stuff as well.

I'm not a completionist so I don't really care. I'll just watch the 100% ending on YouTube or something.

That's exactly what I did for alternate Hotel Dusk endings on the DS. Loved the game but 1) I don't typically play through games twice and 2) you really couldn't pay me to play it again.

Heh. I did the same thing with Hotel Dusk as well. I loved the game, but I wasn't going to play through the entire thing again.

I guess that's some sort of relief, though, since I don't have to be so obsessed with scanning everything.

Yeah, when I beat Rundas I stupidly just ran up and grabbed the freeze missile upgrade without even thinking to scan it. At that point, I was like "Do I really want to turn off the game and refight that battle, just for the scan?"

And the answer was no. So in a way, I guess it takes some pressure off for the rest of the game. But still frustrating.

And I watched the second Hotel Dusk ending on YouTube too, although that was a little cheaper, because here you could theroretically get 100% after a single play through, but with Dusk it MADE you play through the game twice to get that ending.

Good point. Though I can't imagine getting through that game and going, "I really need to play that again so I can watch the marginally nice ending."

Wait, isn't the 100% ending just for getting 100% of the pickups, which is much easier than scanning everything? Or is there a second 100% ending for scanning everything as well?? I'm about 5 scans short myself. There are some creatures I have yet to see for some reason.

Yeah it's only for items. In Prime and Prime 2 they got you art, but this uses the token system, so scans just get you red and blue tokens.

Slowly but surely getting through this puppy... just got past Rundas. Wow that was a battle of wills. Just minutes before I was like "Man, as if I'm ever going to need 4 energy tanks." I'm guessing if I went into hypermode it would have gone quicker, but I survived.

And then after I went back to save, I found a shortcut, that was only one way... so I quit for the night since it would have taken me 15 minutes to get back to where I was.

I was late to the game w/ the GCN and just beat Metroid Prime a few months ago and havent made it to Metroid Prime 2 yet. Should i go ahead and get 3 and not worry about playing 2 or should i play 2 first? Is there any carry over story from 2 in 3?
