Mirror's Edge - Gen. Discussion & Info - Demo Now On XBLM

I might just buy this to support EA for actually making a game that is unique and good. This was the first time a demo actually made me really want to buy a game.

To be honest I am starting to doubt this game just a little bit. I mean this game looks great when you playing a 2 min demo or watching someone play a quick bit.

But do I really want to buy a game full of just running through hallways? I guess I am just wondering what else you are suppose to do in this game. Yes the free running looks good...but so did the free running in Assassin Creed but that didnt make the game any less shitty.

These types of games are great rentals. I can't see the game being more then 10 hours, can finish in 2-3 days max.

The demo was astounding, but I'm still not buying it. As much as I'd like to, with all the multiplayer games coming out this month I just can't afford it.

I couldnt agree with you more... I played the demo just this past weekend and loved it but it seems to be more of a rental though. The demo was really short and from the looks of that it looks like the game is going to short itself. Probably around 10-12 hrs max.

Ill look for this game when it hits the clearance rack or is dirt cheap after Thanksgiving on Black Friday or around the holidays

It's a new PR. It's a parkour game, where it definitely targets a select audience, as well as a casual audience that wants something new. I can tell it has sort of a puzzle-like feel to it, choosing your own path. It's most likely a rental though as stated by Dynasty, unless you're a real hardcore parkour fan.

Seriously though, don't tell me you aren't somewhat exhilarated when you jump off a big ass high building only to land on a building that's 5000 feet lower and more miniscule. I was almost at the edge of my seat when I did a few moves like that. Of course, you could do it in real life and get the real adrenaline rush, but seriously, who wants to fall 5000 feet and miss and die? In Mirror's Edge, all you get is 'failed'.

I Want this game simply because the best thing about the last gen Prince of Persia games were the platforming aspects and this looks to expand on it (or in the very least, focus on it to where Assassin's Creed so lacked). That and presentation looks sooooo slick on and oh yes, free bag.

Any tips on grabbing that red pipe? Because I fell a couple of times and next thing I know, I had grabbed that pipe. I don't recall if I hit a button or she did it automatically. Any help?

Demo didn't do it for me. Controls were too convoluted, and I didn't like the graphical style.

But to be fair, I'm not much of a fan of action games, so it's really just no my cup of tea. Also couldn't give a shit less about parkour so that probably didn't help.

I loved the graphical style...but after the 'tutorial' they just unleash you and then say shit like "Celeste is going to be pissed, she's already almost there". That's the type of shit that pisses me off. No way i was going to remember 10 different button combination's in a matter of a few minutes and then get through the first level. I'll grab it once it hits $20, that way i'll have the manual and controls in front of me.

I played the demo. It was interesting. For full retail price, I don't think this game is going to get a lot of rave. It is parkour, but I have friends that practice parkour and I want to see more than just jumping and sliding. Needs moar vaults. The controls are okay. They aren't the best and if they plan to do a sequel, I think they should utilize the analogs more. Something like skate.

It's going to be a solid title but the sales won't be anywhere near great.

I was already planning on picking this up, but the demo made me want it even more. The colors of the game are refreshing to see, and I thought the gameplay flowed together quite well.

I suspect Mirror's Edge will bore. While I dig the art style, the environments look sterile and undifferentiated. I also do not dig its focus on time trials. That emphasis really lessens my interest in the title. I appreciate the alternative, gun disabling combat, and would like to see that move added to shooters. However, when the dust settles I feel Mirror's Edge will wind up as disappointing as Assassin's Creed.

Yes, flip-flops do bring out my eyes...

Your eyelashes do flip and flop like two seal chorus lines crashing into each other performing a taboo mating dance.

I missed the part in the demo when you jump almost a mile down onto another building and live.

EXACTLY!

I get this vibe that in the game you will always be rushed to do something. I for one hate time trails (although surprisingly love speed runs) and I get this feeling that the game is going to be forcing you into constant chase scenes.

Like I said before....this game seems like it would be more fun to watch someone play than to actually play it. We will see though.

Also...on another note...I am staring at the EA title and just dying a little inside every time. EA is simply not good with niche type titles. They have the tendency to want to push the "casual" element into everything they touch. Usually...fucking it all up.

I was just about to order the ps3 version from amazon.com too. I'll hold off and wait for a price drop.

At first I was mildly interested. After playing the demo my only fear is whether I can wait for the PC version or if I'll break down and buy it for the 360.

I'm still getting it once it drops in price. And with those reviews + the short length of the game it will surely drop soon after release.

Got mine in the mail today from GameStop, no bag. However, they are still available on the website...so not good enough for pre-orders from 30 days ago, but you still have them for others? I'm going to return it and wait for a price drop while I play through some others.

Did anyone who Pre-ordered online from GameStop get a bag?

The guy at my Gamestop said I could still get a pre-order in for the bag last night. I hope that was truthful, but I don't really care since I want to play the game anyway. I'll be picking it up today.

Really pleasantly surprised by the demo. I wasn't sold on the game at all until just a couple weeks ago when I watched some gameplay videos and it piqued my interest.

I actually played the demo twice in a row just so I could re-do some of the jumps I kept F'ing up on the first time around to get a smoother run through in the demo level.

Might switch my pre-order from L4D and pick this up, or trade Dead Space straight up for it.

I will say though that the premise is pretty stupid (Runners are somehow the backbone of the underground? Also Runners is just a stupid name in general) and the animated cut-scenes look awful.

So, I just got an email from Amazon about my preorder of the game. Now, not only have I gotten the code that unlocked the Time Trials, but I just got an email from them that included 3 MP3's from the game! I think it's the theme/title song plus 2 remixes, but they sound really cool, and I was totally surprised to receive them.

I tried the demo, just didn't really do anything for me. I'll give it another try later. Definitely not paying full price for it.

So debating on picking it up, the only thing stopping me is that I have heard it's like six hours long and fairly limited in replayability.. I bet I can find it used for cheap in a week... but I really want it now! :(

I don't see how the replayability would be limited in a game like this. Seems to me you could play through a number of times to find different routes to complete the objectives, which to me seems like it'll be a lot of fun.

Yeah hit up the impressions I am still on the fence about this game. Plus have a shit ton of gamestop credit.
Got mine with bag as well tonight, but can't play until I get off work. Got to say though, the bag is damn nifty.
Sure as hell is. The game ain't half bad either. ;)

I've heard there's nine chapters, and I saw both Zew and Trakan playing it, and both were on Chapter 9. Is it really that short?
So.. not worth $60?
Definitely not. Let's say the game is 7 hours (even though it can most likely be completed in 5/6 hours). $60/7 hours is like $8.50 per hour. Fallout, which is like 30+ hours, would mean you're paying like $2.00 per hour if you paid $60. The game is decent, solid, and definitely unique. However, I think it'd most likely end up as a rental. Unless you're going to be playing it again and again (which will most likely happen), it will definitely drop in price. Give it a week or two, and it'll probably fall to like $40.
It's all subjective. I have no problem spending $60 for something I want.
Ditto, I'm happy with my purchase. The free bag was a nice bonus, but I'm enjoying this game as it is though.
