MLB 10: The Show - March 2, 2010 - Full Online Season Leagues and Online Priority!
I know Knight's rosters are the best Ninja, but they're not done yet and I'm just wondering why Sony has gone 2 weeks without updating the official rosters.
http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showpost.php?p=6965051&postcount=399

Seriously, you keep asking but this has been the way they released rosters for the past games. Not a big concern for them cause minor leaguers are being reassigned to their minor league teams and since they're not in the MLBPA, hence they're not in the game so its pointless just to release a roster that's gonna have little to none transactions with the current players in the game.

Just wait til the Monday after opening day and they'll have the first roster update out.

I dont know why people keep asking this over and over again. Is it that hard a concept to grasp?
Yeah I agree that there is no use in trying to use rosters prior to opening day. I'm shocked that 2K10 has been keeping up with their live updates as well as they have during spring training.

I really hope that The Show will one day have a feature similar to NBA Live's Dynamic Season, where you are willing to sacrifice roster control so that it can be automatically updated daily with the exact rosters and real stats from the games you don't play. The thought of playing a season that mirrors real life 100% makes me . Obviously this would be in addition to the 30 team franchise mode and everything else it currently has.
The only downside to that is that you can't really play ahead, which is not so great for a 162 game schedule.

The main reason I keep asking is because, as I've posted about, there are errors with players in the wrong positions on 4 different teams (Yankees, Twins, Indians, and Marlins) and I hope it doesn't become an issue like the lifetime stats glitch from last year that's screwed up until July.
would anyone be up for a friendly exhibition game tonight? I don't have a mic.
Hey Franky, you still around? I'll play you if you want. Games have been running basically lag free for me tonight, and dare I say it, aside from the games not counting, the server seems pretty reliable *knock on wood*. Let me know.

Yeah I'm still up. I haven't tried an online game so I don't know about lag but I'd still be willing to try one.

Great game tonight Nate, I'm really bad at hitting sometimes. Really fun to play online though, don't really do that with the PS3 since my mic broke. How did you do that "Need for steroids" text in the middle of the game?

Yeah, definitely a great game, Franky. I've got a USB keyboard connected to my PS3. You can do it with that or that chatpad thing Sony made. All you gotta do is type and a box pops up. I was just astonished at the number of warning track outs I was getting (I think I typed "need more steroids" didn't I?).

I do like using the keyboard in games with randoms though. If somebody's trying to pull some lame crap on me like rushing their pitches or throwing the same pitch that barely nicks the outside corner over and over and over again, I'll call them on it. Then there are the people who act like dicks by going into the first person view and shaking it around during every at bat...or the ones who do the bunt motion over and over to try to distract you. Oh, and I can't forget the people who flash the guess pitch box a million times because they think throwing anything out of the strikezone is cheating. It's nice being able to say "hey, stop being an idiot!", especially with the way it pops up on the screen like the game is talking to them, haha.

People think throwing outside of the strike zone is cheating? And yeah you said "Need more steroids", it's been a while since I've slept.

If anyone wants to get in a game later tonight I'll be around after the NCAA tournaments games. I'm usually a late nighter, and with recent things that have happened I'll be on more during the daytime as well.

I need to get a keyboard. I have a mic that I use sometimes but no one else seems to have one and I don't even know if the other person can hear me. The only things that people do that I hate are when they go into first person and when they hold the guess pitch for foreverrrrrrr. I swear I played a game last night that took 50 minutes when they usually take around 30 to 35.
People think throwing outside of the strike zone is cheating?
Ah, it's just that whole "strikes only" crowd, ya know. I mean, some of them could be kids, but I've ran into people like this dating all the way back to MVP 2005. They're the people who like to swing at every pitch, so of course they don't want you throwing anything that's not a strike. I struck out one guy 25 times earlier this week because of that shit, lol.

He kept flashing the guess pitch box at me, and I told him "I'm not playing teeball. Learn to take a pitch." Granted, I eventually figured out he couldn't hit a curveball even when it was a strike, so the latter half of the game I did just start lobbing curveballs right down the middle...and he never got the timing down. I almost felt bad, but hey..it's online ranked play, haha.

Holding guess pitch is done to prevent people from rushing their pitches, especially when you have a runner on. Apparently, some people see pitching as a guerilla warfare tactic where they don't even give you time to tell your runner to take a one step lead or to guess your pitch. I don't even know how they have time to aim where they want it to go.

I don't like the games to take forever either (I skip basically all cutscenes), but I also don't like my opponent completely dictating the pace of the game, and feeling like my batter hardly has his feet in the box before I'm having to locate a pitch and swing at it. Sometimes people need to just slow the hell down.

3 weeks after launch...(it was also available a week ago with GoHastings B2G1 for $1 sale...but that was less of a direct deal)

So, wildcpac, I was right...but I was also too weak to stick to my guns and listen to myself. I think that means we both lose, lol. Seriously though, I've been enjoying this game...but I can't decide if having a buggy game the first 3 weeks it was out was worth the extra $25. I do still like 10 better than 09 though.

Same old story today. I've played 5 games today and not a one has gone the distance. Every single one has quit. And I've decided that I should not score any runs in the first any because they almost always quit. I had one guy who threw strikes right down the middle every pitch and when he saw that I was throwing balls, he quit.

I got the game for 38 off of Amazon brand new on release date thanks to the good old friends at the ECA. I wonder how many used copies Gamestop has. Definately a good deal for those who order.

Totally, dude. I hustle people now. Straight up. I don't use guess pitch at all in the 1st inning, and I swing like an idiot at everything. Although one guy I played was such a moron, I accidentally hit a home run, lol. He threw a meatball to Josh Hamilton, and I made contact, and it was gone. Thank God he didn't quit though. Then, when I'm pitching, I'll try to pitch to contact. Nothing too good, usually change ups low in the zone. But in the 2nd inning, I turn it on and try to see how quickly I can make someone quit. It's like its own game for me, lol.

Wow, you still had valid coupons? That's insane. Because of Gamestop's 50% bonus promo on trade ins, I'm at least happy I didn't pay full price. But I still feel SCEA needs to try a little harder. I don't want any of my money going to the testers of the game. They should all be fired, honestly. Way too many bugs that went unnoticed.

Ha, N8...I do the same thing. I'm on like an 11 game win streak now.

The online is messed up atm. I couldn't log in and when I finally did, it said there were 0 players online and got disconnected again.

**EDIT** Ha, the guy I just got matched up quit after I got two lead off singles. This is really getting ridiculous.

I think I played the biggest douche online the other day. I gave him a little credit at first because he picked the D'Backs (not the Yankees, Red Sox, or Phillies like everyone else) and he played good at first. But then this guy was pulling all sorts of dick moves. One thing that he did that was new to me was replaying EVERY time he took advantage of me (stealing a base that wasn't even close, getting a bunt single or home run, any other mistakes I made). He did this quite a bit and even tried to steal home because he thought I was an idiot. At that point, I already had him figured out.

The game was close the whole way, but he's one of those guys that has a set pitching routine, so I was able to get a few hits off of him. Plus it helped that he dove a couple of times I hit a routine ball to the OF (don't know why he did that, broken R2 button? letting me score because he thought he could come back?). Then everytime I had a single and he didn't want to face the next hitter, he would throw a fastball right at my guy's dome (HE WOULD EVEN REPLAY THOSE TOO!). Naturally, this pissed me off after a couple of times. Then of course, I try to throw an inside pitch on him that hit him on a 1-2 count and my starter gets booted. What the fuck. Then later on, he had a guy on and homered on a mistake pitch that I threw to go up two I believe. Oh yeah, he also kept on doing that retarded half bunt movement with all his guys.

Aaaahh, but then things got interesting. So I'm down by 2 going into the 9th and he still has his starter out there. I calmed down and was determined to not let this cunt win. To wrap up the story, I scored 3 in the 9th to go up one then had an epic last out battle that I struck him out on a fastball on the corner. I love how karma works sometimes.

Tried to play a bit online and the guy ended up quitting after four innings in the middle of a string of hits that gave him a 4-0 lead.

The team select screen has been really hard to navigate for whatever reason, as it'll be almost impossible to switch to the team I want and it tended to just quit back to the main online menu most of my attempts to get a quick game going.

Yeah, there are a lot of assholes online. It really helps (well, I don't know if "helps" is the right word, lol..but it makes me feel better) having a keyboard so you can tell them that you know they're trying to be a dick. The fact that the servers are still so unreliable (connection issues, games not counting, etc.) just makes it worse.

I also hate seeing people with a 52-11 record insist on playing as the Yankees. If you're THAT good at this game, the last freaking thing you need to be doing is using the best team. I'm a Yankees fan, and I like to think I'm decent at the game, and I don't EVER use them. I guess some people don't care about having a challenge at all.

I wish SCEA would let us know if they're close to having fixes for these (and other) issues. I almost want to assume that they'll have something ready for Opening Day...and they're just keeping it quiet to be some big surprise, but I also don't want to get my hopes up.

Anyone know how to get your RTTS players to be offered a contract by another team, so far only my current team is offering me a contract and I'm the #1 ranked pitcher.

I am sure it is along the lines of real life. You have to have 6 years of service time on the Major League level.

I didn't know that so you have to play on a team for 6 years in the MLB level to be able to sign contracts with other teams. I'm at my 3rd yr total for RTTS

I got a nice new contract when I finished my first season in Road to the Show, as I got a 4 year, $1.4 million contract and am in spring training as a utility player with Boston. Doesn't help that they restructured the minors so Matt LaPorta was put back ahead of me on the depth chart, so I'll probably go back down to AAA. I hate getting strike out goals, because not striking out more than once for five to eight series is hard as hell.

I played this a few weeks ago and wasn't really feeling it. I played it again tonight and I'm getting rid of it. The pitching is the only thing I like in modern baseball games. The animations are terrible and unrealistic. The fielding is terrible, too. I was right under a ball and somehow my fielder missed it and it bounces back. When guys start moving, it's like they're wearing lead shoes. When the infielders throw, it's as if they stare at the ball for a few seconds before they throw it (I've not thrown anyone out on a ground ball). Very disappointed to say the least.

Dude, if this is an issue for you, I'm sorry, but you just suck. This game has several problems, and I'll be the first damn person to point them out (as most people know). But this is not one of them. You're practically making shit up. If you're that bad that you struggle with placing your fielder over a circular icon or throwing runners out on ground balls, then of course you're not going to like this game.

It's not fair to completely judge a game just based on how poorly you play it. If everyone was having these problems, I could understand. But if it's something that you're just having issues with, maybe you need to take a look at yourself.

The flyball I'm not making up. I was right under it and it somehow bounced off the ground and towards the fence.

The infield just doesn't feel right. When I hold to charge the throw, it feels as though it's taking too long to actually throw it (like it doesn't charge the throw fast enough). And of course tapping or holding it for a bit doesn't work.

Are you playing with your RTTS player, because when they start out they suck.

I've just been playing the demo so far, but I really like it. Hitting takes some getting used to to get the timing right, but I'm doing better now. The only thing that really looks bad is the homerun trot. It's the same animation everytime and it just looks retarded (esp. the holding of the helmet when touching the bases)

I can't explain the flyball, other than being a random error. But that sure as hell isn't the norm (as you're making it sound)...and personally, I haven't seen it once.

As for your infield play, you're clearly not doing it right. If you try to hold the button and let the meter fill up completely before throwing, of course many batters will beat out your throw. I hardly ever hold the button for longer than half a second. Many times tapping does work just fine. And you do know that you can "load up" your throw before even fielding the ball, right? Sometimes, this will cause a fielding error (which to me is very realistic. think of a fielder taking his eye off the ball to look at the man he's about to throw it to).

But there are several options on how to get the ball to the bag in time. It's up to you to find the right one. Again, this is such an elementary concept in the game (and one that most people don't struggle with at all), if it is giving you problems, your skill level just doesn't fit this game. I'm not saying this to be a dick or be like "haha, you're no good!" But seriously, this game has become notorious the past two years for having a steep learning curve. I feel that this year's game is more forgiving than last year's, but it still takes practice and a solid understanding of how the mechanics work.

The helmet thing only happens with the "real time" presentation style. If you use "broadcast", this isn't an issue. It's annoying, no doubt. But it's a pretty small nitpick, and one that can be avoided if it bothers you that much.

Played about 20 more games. Same old story. I have to play dumb int he first inning just to get a full game. I also was ahead 6 to nothing in a game and it froze...I got charged with a loss and disconnect.

I'm really liking RTTS. I played a couple hours last night, completing my team's first 11 games. I played in 9, switching between 1B (my primary position), 3B, and DH. I was drafted by Baltimore, so I play for the abysmal Bowie Baysox.

Currently, I'm batting .297 with 2 HR and 9 RBIs.

EDIT: 3 HR and 12 RBIs now, but after a recent slump including an 0 for 6 game last time around, my average has plummeted to .239. :( I've been moved to my 4th position of the season- shortstop- for this next game.

EDIT 2: Got moved down to 8th in the order, from cleanup.

I suck so bad at MLB 10. I'm barely batting above .200 in RTTS, and in the 3 regular games I've played, I lost 6-4 as the White Sox to the Indians, 8-0 as the Dodgers to the Padres, and gave up 5 runs in the bottom of the 8th to Boston to lose (as the Yankees) 10-5.

Don't judge yourself on how you play against the CPU, I rarely win games against the CPU and I have a 17-10 record online, not too shabby.

If you see me on, give me a message and we can play a non-ranked game or two for practice.

Okay, will do. I was trying to practice against the CPU last night, but I guess playing online would be the best practice. I'm planning to get at least 1 league game in tomorrow. I don't think I'm scheduled to play you in the league yet, but if I am, we can do that. If not, I could certainly use a non-ranked game.

For those wondering, Knight's minor league rosters are out. He's gonna release an updated version in a couple of weeks but this one is pretty decent if you just want to play right now instead of waiting.

I just played against the most annoying person online. I've read in forums about people that steal early and you can't do anything about it and I just witnessed it for the first time. Every time he got a baserunner, he would be able to steal the base no problems. I tried many things such as pitching out and trying to pick him off and nothing was working.

Anyone have a good defense for this?

I feel the same way about people who are too afraid to throw a pitch in the strike zone.

Seriously? If a person is swinging at everything, who in their right mind would throw anything near the strike zone? I've actually lost a couple games by feeling like I'm SUPPOSED to throw strikes...when that logic is completely backward. The hitter is supposed to MAKE you throw strikes.

I'm not fond of people who nibble with changeups on the low outside corner the entire game, but I've also discovered that most of the time, the only reason they're able to get a strike call is because I'm guessing the location, which causes the game to place the pitch right where they wanted...rather than having to hit their spot using the meter. That's why guess pitch is a double-edged sword. It can be your best friend as a batter, but it can also make sure you have nothing good to hit. Just like in real life, you gotta switch up your strategy. No one thing will work 100% of the time.
I feel the same way about people who are too afraid to throw a pitch in the strike zone.

I was only annoyed with the fact that I couldn't find a way to stop them from stealing any base they wanted.

I threw plenty of strikes...But there's no sense in throwing a ball right down the middle knowing very well it's going to be a solid hit. That's the way baseball is played.
