MLB 10: The Show - March 2, 2010 - Full Online Season Leagues and Online Priority!
You can fix it yourself.
I shouldn't have to go through all 30 teams and make sure all the positions are correct for players in the lineups. That could be up to 120 changes to make (vs RHP, vs LHP, vs RHP/DH, and vs LHP/DH.) You mean to tell me someone couldn't take the time to see that the lineups have Derek Jeter in CF instead of SS?

Haven't gone to OS yet but n8 I hope you're right and they're fixed next Monday, but remember I found these last week originally. Did no one on OS report it?

Edit: Actually n8, wasn't this the second official update? There were new rosters in you logged into Sportsconnect on launch week (when I first noticed this) and there were new ones this week.
Edit: Actually n8, wasn't this the second official update? There were new rosters in you logged into Sportsconnect on launch week (when I first noticed this) and there were new ones this week.
Technically, yeah, that might be right. But I do know that the problem wasn't reported on OS until a day or two after the game came out. So, you're talking 3/4...with the roster update released on 3/8. Ehh..they probably should have gotten it fixed, but I'm willing to at least give them until this Monday. If it's not fixed after a full week, then it's either worse than they said, or they're getting lazy.

I also don't think sloppy programming like this should be acceptable...but I'm just happy the damn game plays well this year. Online isn't laggy, it's not impossible to hit, and the CPU isn't constantly trying to cheat me out of games. Doing those things right buys them a bit of time in my opinion. As long as they have the franchise and roster bugs worked out by opening day, I'll be fine.

It does make you wonder how these kinds of things just slip by the testers though. But sadly, I have seen even dumber shit. For example, as I was just talking about again last night, in NHL 10, as you load a game (be it online or offline), a screen pops up letting you know that "Honda is the Offical Car of the NHL". Yes...it says "Offical". Who the hell misses that??? It comes up in EVERY SINGLE GAME. Granted, it's not something that affects gameplay, but it's still incredibly stupid, and should be impossible to miss considering how frequently it presents itself. So, you see...Sony is not alone in their complete ineptitude, lol.

Do they even update the rosters between now and opening day? I know they had to release the one this past Monday because a lot of people were complaining about the potential ratings issue, but iirc they don't put out any downloadable rosters until the week after opening day.

I don't wanna sound negative, because I only played 3 innings of one online game, but I'm underwhelmed with this year's version.

The online lag was still present for the game I played, and the defense engine, which used to feel smooth and like my player actually was running with real-life motion physics, now seems like I'm moving a computer player over to the ball.

Even the double plays feel, I dunno, fake.

I definitely have to give it more of a shot... but so far, it seems to have taken a step back and not fixed the worst problem.

Could you point me in the direction of a list of these Franchise bugs? I keep reading there are bugs but I haven't seen a list, only thing I've read is players are sometimes at the wrong position and the trade logic is all messed up. I'm wanting to pick this up but not sure if I should wait. Forgive me if there is a list posted in here or it's already been asked several times.

You need to play more than one game. It's crazy even formulating an opinion after one game. I've played 12 games online and the lag has been extremely minimal...and usually between plays, not during a pitch, which is what I used to hate the most. I've also played games while my computer was downloading shit...and they were lag free. To me, that says something.

And I disagree completely about the fielders. I thought last year's fielders were horrible. Half the animations were broken, and diving was completely worthless. This year, every movement feels directly tied to the momentum you have before you make it. Fielding a bunt with your pitcher isn't an automatic out anymore because his momentum actually will carry him into foul territory before he gets the throw off.

I don't know, maybe you're just burnt out on the series (the way a lot of people seem to be with NHL this year). Games that make small changes seem to have that effect on people. But since I hardly played last year's game, this game feels really fresh to me.

I started a catcher RTTS and I flat out hate it. Time to create a new player. The calling the game is fun but not if you have to do it all of the time. It sucks that you cannot turn off the defense and just do hitting.

I have to get started on a RTTS player, stuck on franchise now trying to get some practice in. Hitting has been pretty tough for me on veteran, I am a transplanted 2k player on 360.

I finished my first online game just now. No lag issues. I won 5-3, yet my player card didnt update. Is that supposed to automatically update?

If it hasn't updated after 15 minutes, it might be a lost game. I haven't gotten stats for 3 wins and 2 losses so far, so I've been on both ends.

Checked the NL lineups when I got home today and the only one that's messed up is the Marlins, but it's messed up pretty bad. 3 or 4 players in the wrong positions.

I wish you could turn off baserunning or at least just have to be there during the pitch that is actually hit

You can turn off base running. You can have it off, have it when you are the lead runner only or all of the time. Catcher RTTS sucks because it's mandatory that you call the whole game. Fun the first time but gets boring after.

First off, let me say I'm enjoying this game. However the rubberband AI is making hard to have fun after awhile. I mean, I don't need to win all the time, but sometimes you can just see the bullshit happening right in front of you.

I was just playing my fantasy franchise. I get 5 run in the 2nd and the computer proceeds to get 4 off Roy F'n Halliday in the 5th after only giving up 1 hit in the whole game. I had to take him out. They got 2 more off my reliver.

I got 4 more in the 7th. So I figure smooth sailing even if they catch up a little.

Enter 9th inning, I'm up 9-6 with Mariano Rivera coming in to close.

First batter gets a double.
2nd batter the umpire calls two obvious strikes-- balls and a guy walks.
3rd batter hits a home run to tie the game.

Then I get the next guy out -gasp-
Next guy gets a bloop single.
Then another bloop single right into the same spot the previous guy just hit.
Next batter hits into double play--NOPE! My SS bobbles the ball and everyones safe.

Next up is the Number 9 batter on the team...
1-2 count on this guy and ump calls SO pitch a ball. Next pitch ... number 9 batter hits a Grand Slam off Rivera in the 9th and I'm down 13-9 and I turn off the game.

Now I can imagine maybe 1 or 2 of those things happening but that just pissed me off. Rivera giving up 7 in the 9th against a team with no one good too! Sorry for the rant!

I have played about 10 games and I only have 1 blown loss which was more my fault than anything. Just played a game between the Dodgers and the Rockies. I took a 5-1 lead in the 6th inning. Dodgers mounted a little comeback in the top of the 8th as Manny had runners on 2nd and 3rd with 1 out. I was able to get him to strike out and the next hitter grounded out to first. Dodgers went out 1,2,3 in the top of the 9th.

Is there any way to change the analog stick movement during the movie maker mode from double inverted to regular? It took me an hour to make a 1 minute clip montage of 7 plays because I was having flashbacks to Final Fantasy 12 because I couldn't control the camera.

The bugs in this game are getting ridiculous. You can't even complete an online game now. If someone pauses, the system freezes.

I can confirm that they're having server problems. It started sometime yesterday. I had a hell of a time even staying connected to SportsConnect last night. The games are played peer to peer, but the Sportsconnect server handles all the lobbies and matchmaking and whatnot. If those go down, you can't do anything. This is a fairly common problem that all sports game go through at some point. I just hope they get it fixed quickly.

I kinda find it hard to believe what slickkill posted about the team being on vacation for the next month though. Who the hell releases a game and takes the next month off? They have to expect there to be some hiccups and bugs that need to be ironed out. That statement just feels like propaganda to me.

That's what I thought. It took me 5 minutes to get into Sportsconnect last night. It was fairly quick today so I thought the problems were fixed.

Are you saying it's still having problems today? I haven't had a chance to get on yet today, so I can only speak for last night. It would be great if it was fixed already though.

Just played an exhibition game today to get my feet wet, and I am amazed. This is the first game in this series I've been able to play and I am in love.

no luck w/online today for me
two games locked up the system (during a pause) and a couple others froze on team select

Finally got back around to my Indians franchise to play the first series of the season against the White Sox and came out with two wins in a pitcher's duel kind of series. The second game was a throwback jersey night, which was pretty cool to see the Sox in red-striped jerseys that made them look like Philly.

Jeter was still at SS in my franchise when using the first roster update that they put up.

In 30 + games played so far, I have yet to see even a single throwing error by the AI, yet, I have atleast 1 every 1-2 games, sometimes more. Has nothing to do with the meter either, as I've had them happen through all kinds of different situations, ranging from obvious (rushed full meter throw while moving) to really? a major leaguer did that? (feet set, meter at half, no rush at all)

Agreed, I have had a bunch of throwing errors/missed catches. I do not understand when charging the ball straight on it will just go past the player, this was a problem in the 2K games last year too. This is my first SHOW game in a long time, but it is so much better than 2K.

I've played 2 exhibition games so far. In the 2nd game, the Padres SS had a throwing error on what should have been an easy double play turn to end the bottom of the 8th. Instead the throw was wide and low, and the ball went into the Cardinals dugout. One run scored on the error, and I scored 4 more in the inning to turn a 1-1 tie into a 6-1 win.

Maybe the CPU auto fixes some things if you start a franchise? Like I said, the problems lie with the Yankees, Twins, Indians, and Marlins.

The major bug I've noticed is that every time I quit the game via the PS button the system has some kind of an error and restarts. Anyone else notice the same thing? Hopefully they'll fix this...
game seems fine so far today, and lag free for me
hate quitters - don't see why I don't get a win for that!
I am pretty sure you get a win if they quit after the first inning.

I played a little yesterday. It's pretty obvious the developers have never seen video of Johan Santana. The only thing that's accurate is his follow-through when his right leg is on the ground and his left leg is in the air. The rest of his delivery isn't even remotely realistic. I can probably find a more accurate one in MVP 2005. I only play the games for pitching, hitting is too boring, so it's a major gripe with me. I haven't looked at any other pitches but if they can't get Santana's right, it's not looking good for anyone else.

I also hate the ridiculous contract demands for players. Rod Barajas wants 4-6 years for $5M a year.

The graphics are good. But the only way you can mistake it for a live game is if you have glaucoma.

I'll start a Road to the Show soon. If I can't get into that, I'm selling it.

Yeah that happens to both my brother and me. Instead of quitting to the XMB like normal just hold down the PS button on your controller until you get to the black screen, then quit the game from there. That method works fine and is an easy workaround.

Let me take a stab in the dark here...you worked on pitcher animations for MVP 2005?

Seriously, you have like 20 posts about the two subjects.

The biggest problem I have with this year's game is the baserunning. It was never smooth or easy to control, but now the logic is completely screwed, making it even more cumbersome. I've had countless plays where I hit a low liner, that is clearly not going to be caught by anybody, and the runners retreat to their bases. This has caused me to have a runner thrown out at 2nd by the centerfielder a ridiculous number of times.

Maybe I need to get into a better habit of pressing L1 as soon as I know it's going to be a hit. But damn, they shouldn't need THAT much babysitting. Not to mention that sometimes it takes them a second to turn around and go the direction they should have been headed in the first place.

The worst occurrence I've had happened tonight, when I had the bases loaded with nobody out. I hit a sharp ground ball to the shortstop. My runners freeze and then head back to their bases. So, my opponent throws home for one out, and then to 3rd and then 2nd for a freaking triple play. As soon as I realized they weren't running, I just started jamming on L1, but to no avail. I would have uploaded a replay of the play, but the game disconnected an inning later and froze my system.

Base running has been the worst part of every baseball game, ever. Except for Mike Piazza's Strike Zone on the N64. The worst part of that was that it existed.

That was cold.
It wasn't bad on MVP 2005. Though it was incredibly hard to steal on the Gamecube. It was a lot easier on the PC.
Dude! Come on. How big of a boner do you have for MVP 2005??? This shit is getting ridiculous.
Base running has been the worst part of every baseball game, ever. Except for Mike Piazza's Strike Zone on the N64. The worst part of that was that it existed.
Yeah, but this is the first time I've noticed The Show not knowing when to actually advance runners. I just hit a weak ground ball the 3rd, and my fucking man on 1st lunged toward 2nd and then retreated (and no...I'm not accidentally bumping R1. It mostly seems to happen when I just sit there like a dumbass and don't press anything, haha). It's starting to become patch worthy. I'm going to see if it's been reported as a glitch on OS, and if not, I'll report it. I shouldn't have to tell my guys to run out ground balls. That's insane.
That was cold.
Yes, but it's true. The only redeeming feature in the game was the ability to edit team names, which amused me during the few days I had the game rented out (I was 14).

Nate, I haven't played The Show yet, obviously. But I foresee a lot of frustration coming for me with the base running, based on your comments.

The only problem I've had with baserunning is trying to give individual runners specific directions in the middle of a play, which usually ends with one or both getting out because I messed it up somehow.

Just played an epic game online. I'm the Cubs against the Rockies. Down 2-1 in the 9th with 2 outs, Marlon Byrd reaches base on an error by the 3B, barely safe at first. Up next, former Yankee Soriano, hits an inside the park 2 run HR (counted as a triple and scored on throw, don't know why). I'm up 1 in the bottom of the ninth, leadoff guy hits a single, steals second, I strike out a Rockie, steals third, I strike out another Rockie with a pitch in the dirt. I throw to first, runner at third breaks home, got the out at first, then got the out barely (and I mean barely) at home. I win...

And of course, the win doesn't count. Oh well, great game still.

damn it...i was just in a tied game and had runners on 2nd and 3rd with no outs and the guy does the automatic walk and it froze up. guhhhhhh
The only problem I've had with baserunning is trying to give individual runners specific directions in the middle of a play, which usually ends with one or both getting out because I messed it up somehow.
Yeah, this happens to me a lot too. But I think having runners retreating just makes it worse. Then I'm trying to figure out how to tell those guys to go forward or try to score, while trying to tell my batter to go for second. I try using the left stick + face button commands, but with certain runners holding up, it just becomes a fucking mess. I usually just end up mashing L1 like a maniac until I get doubled off to end the inning, lol.
