MLB 10: The Show - March 2, 2010 - Full Online Season Leagues and Online Priority!

At least they're trying to fix the bugs. If they manage to put out the latest patch without breaking anything else in the game while fixing almost all the bugs and glitches, this game would be close to perfect. It doesn't take away the fact that they pissed off their loyal customers with 2+ months of mediocrity.

Yeah, that's my biggest issue. It's not to say that this is a bad game, or that it's not worth owning. But if it takes them 2+ months to get it right, then I'll wait those 2+ months and save $25+. The past two years, we've essentially served as beta testers, and we paid $60 to do it.

wut.
Yeah, I don't even know what that is, lol. I haven't looked too closely at the Angels roster, but I've heard of games putting in deceased players as kind of a tribute. But if they put a deceased Adenhart in the game AND screwed up his appearance, that's horrible.

If you go ingame and look at Wood's player model, he has Adenhart's face. It was also in last year's game.

Wow, people are going nuts on the OS boards, lol. Tons of bans and deleted threads everywhere. And surprisingly, I'm not a part of it. I'm rather proud of myself, haha. :) I do wish this 3rd out glitch would get fixed soon though. Leagues have been struggling enough as it is without everybody taking a forced week off.
I'll wait until tonight to see if there are any more bugs that make the game unplayable.
Same, I'm still on 1.10 so I'm in no rush in case a new game breaking glitch pops up.

Still a great game but it's funny to see all of the online oral sex being given to SCEA. I am still trying to figure out how a build of 2010 had so many problems when it's an enhancement of the previous couple of years. You would think that these problems wouldn't be run into after all of this time and testing being done on the engine.

Reports are coming in now that there could be a potential freezing problem with the new mini patch. Several people are saying that they've been getting freezes when looking at the "manage roster" screen, requiring a hard reset. I haven't even installed the patch yet, so I haven't seen it. But at least 5 people have reported seeing the problem on OS.

All right, looks like not everybody is getting the freezing issue, and no other issues have popped up. So, this last patch is probably ok to download. It's the only option for online play to continue anyway.

What's the deal with pitching in RTTS? I have my fastball velocity training at about 90, and my guy is still throwing 85-89 (maxing out at about 93). The funny thing is that when I have a start and they show my pitches and their speeds, it lists my fastball as 94-99 mph. I figured that maybe my velocity will get better once I move up, but I was called up to the bigs in Sept. and my fastball is still in the 80s. When should I expect to see higher speeds? Do I have to get my fastball velocity training to 100 or do I have to wait a couple of years for it, no matter what level I'm at?

This is a known problem with an RTTS pitcher. There are a few topics and lots of posts about it on the Operation Sports forums. I can't remember off the top of my head what the "glitch" is exactly (something about a changeup or curveball in your pitcher's selection of pitches screwing max fastball velocity up) but if you look on that forum you might get the exact answer you are looking for.

On a side note in my Cubs franchise I changed the pitching difficulty from All-Star to Hall of Fame and I haven't won a game since lol. The pitching is actually about right for me now, giving up around 4-5 runs a game but oddly enough my bats have gone cold. I don't think I've scored more than 3 runs in a single game for over a week.

How easy is this game? I'm looking for a game for my son who will be 9 in a couple weeks. He played the demo on "rookie" (I think, for both hitting and pitching) and found it slightly too difficult. Is there a training mode or some such that he'd be able to get comfortable with the controls?

I've looked into easier baseball game options, but it seems that most of them are too "kiddie" and he likes the actual teams/stadiums/players.

He does ok with MLB Power Pros on the Wii (using the classic controller, not the wiimote), if that's any indication of what I'm kinda looking for. He loves that game but the outdated rosters really bug him. :)

You could always try the Bigs 2. It's a pretty simple yet fun game and uses actual players/teams/stadiums.

I don't know what the quality will be like, but there's a new Little League baseball game coming out on all 3 consoles the same day in July as NCAA Football 11.

But yeah for real players/stadiums The Bigs 2 is probably the best choice as SEH said.

Thanks for the help, I'll look into The Bigs. I'll probably end up getting this one if I can get a deal on it. He's in to FIFA world cup now, so I think I'll get that one for his birthday then get the baseball game later.

Doesn't bother me. Out of the 91 games I own on disc for the current generation of consoles, I only bought 4 of them used. I'm not anal about a lot of things (insert joke about my gay Swedish UFC 2010 fighter here), but when it comes to the condition of my games- discs and boxes- I am. I never buy used unless it's an incredible deal that I simply can't pass up, or game I can't find new, which is rare when it comes to 360/PS3/Wii games.

If it's only if you buy it used, like EA is doing, I don't see it as a big deal.

Although, their online has been so shitty, it's funny they want to charge even people who buy it used.

Yeah, it doesn't bother me as well since I buy most of my games new and I most likely will not buy this game next year. But there are people who will buy this used and it sucks that they might have to pay for a shitty online service.

Is anyone doing RTTS? I need some really good tips on how to hit, I can't hit shit.

I just got the game and started with RTTS, I don't know if this was such a good idea for a noob such as myself. I really try to be a good hitter but I either ground, fly or foul. I don't just swing at anything either. It's really frustrating at time.

Also, practice mode doesn't seem to work for me. Rookie level, according to description, is supposed to help you batting by giving you tips, analyze and all that jazz but it doesn't do that at all for me, only gives me 20 at bats and that's it. Is there anything I have to turn on or something? heeeelp!

be patient... need to not swing at balls.

I just kept playing games and it finally clicked after a while. I was terrible for a long time. It just takes experience. I guess that doesn't help much... sorry.

EDIT: Oh, one thing- guessing the pitch type really helped me a lot. I don't usually even attempt to guess the location with the right stick, though I will fiddle with the left stick to try to get under the ball if I want to get it in the air or on top if I'm trying to put it on the ground.

Haha, wow...am I THAT bad? lol. Honestly, I didn't think too much of it because I really wasn't even thinking about purchasing The Show next year. But nothing with sports games really surprises me anymore. I didn't buy Madden this year, but I just saw the list of things that the upcoming patch is supposed to fix, and it blew my mind.

It is literally every component of the gameplay, and it just makes you wonder if they tested the game at all. And from what I've read, the Ultimate Team mode is screwed because people can quit with 0:01 left in the game...and NOT receive a loss (please God don't let NHL 11 suffer from the same problem). How the fuck do you miss something like that??? And yet...EA uses a one-time use code to access their glorious online play. Why should I expect anything less out of SCEA? The odds that they actually fix anything from this year are slim to none.

Hmm...something like that? lol ;)

Guess 4-seam fastball low. If it's a fastball, just look at location and if it's in the strike zone, swing. If the location is low but not a fastball, look at where the pitch starts. If it starts low, it'll most likely break low, since every other pitch besides the 4-seam fastball breaks down. If it starts middle and is in the strike zone, swing. Start off in rookie mode first since it's all timing. Once you get better, switch to higher difficulties.

Nah it's nothing bad, just wanted to see what you would say. I think I'm just going to keep MLB 10 unless something drastic changes because I actually like the Cards from the start of the season vs. how the Cards are now. I was only like 30 games or so into the season so I need to start that up again.

Just out of curiosity, what is being changed in the Madden patch?
Just out of curiosity, what is being changed in the Madden patch?
Yeah, I didn't want to derail this thread with Madden talk, but I think curiosity gets the better of us all, haha. Here's the list of things they're fixing. I'll put it in spoilers so it doesn't clog up the thread.

http://maddennfl.easports.com/blog.a...Id=quickupdate

Moving forward, we are working on addressing some of the most common feedback in upcoming title updates. You all already know that we are planning on releasing an update to enable old-school pre-play controls right around the start of the NFL season, which also will include the brand new Madden Moments LIVE feature where you can replay the top games from each week. In that update we will also have numerous art, gameplay, and stability fixes included as well. Along with that, we have also planned a second update to come towards the end of September. Below is a list of the top priority issues we seem to be hearing the most about that we are looking at:

- Fixing a bug to allow friend invites to ranked games
- Generally making pass defense more effective
- Reducing number of broken tackles
- Fixing user blitz exploit(s)
- Tuning injuries
- Tuning CPU & GameFlow play-calling logic
- Improving play action blocking
- Improving kick return blocking
- Improving online connectivity issues with kick meter lag, media streaming, etc.
- Random stability improvements

Obviously, the things in the first paragraph are just game improvements, and that's great for a developer to add on to the game after it's been released. But the list of fixes at the end are basically just things that are wrong with the game and probably should have been noticed before release...and those won't be fixed until "towards the end of September" (and we all know how those estimates work). That will put the game in the 1.5 - 2 month range before it's truly a finished, functional product. To me, it just seems like another example of paying $60 to be a beta tester. I'm just glad I didn't get suckered into this one.

Good thing I didn't get Madden this year. I haven't gotten a Madden game since 06 and I was tempted because the demo featured my Jets and I played it so much but it looks like it has a lot of problems.

I seem to do a little bit better when I'm not guessing the pitch, it's more frustrating when I guess right and can't hit it, I guess I anticipate it too much and take it for granted that it ought to be a hit and instead it's a fly ball. I think I have better results not guessing at all, but it's minimal. *sigh*
Guess 4-seam fastball low. If it's a fastball, just look at location and if it's in the strike zone, swing. I think I will take your approach and change it to rookie mode and get used to the swinging first and gradually advance. Also, I think I will start a regular MLB season and see how that goes, I played one online game so far and didn't do bad besides the first inning where I didn't know that the controls are much more different then the RTTS', in that game I had two homeruns and a couple of RBI's so I think I'm not that bad unless online is noob friendly.

Thanks for your suggestions guys.
