MLB 2010 Discussion Thread

I could have sworn a certain Rays fan predicted another perfect game for the White Sox tonight and that the Rays cannot hit left handers? Mark Buerhle got raped tonight and knocked out in the top of the 5th. Rays lead 12-0.

Wow Mets pitching epic fail today. All they did was walk people and now its bases loaded top of the 9th. Its like they just forgot how to command and locate pitches. Very poor performance tonight.

Damn you Cubs! I wanted to see Soriano get up to bat one more time. Soriano finished a double short of the Cycle. You know your bullpen is bad when Soriano roughs you up. Guy is Mr Unclutch since after the 2001 WS.

What a kick in the balls the top of the 8th was in Oakland. Chavez got the biggest bitch single off of Huges to break up the no hitter. Should have been an error in my book. Chavez hit a grounder off of Hughes which Phil lost and by the time he realized where it was it was too late.

Sox had another walkoff hit against the Rangers. Rangers bullpen is all worlds of suck.

Good job ace. Did you happen to read the post right above yours?

Wright and Bay are strike out machines right now. It's getting bad.

It figures the one game this week that hasn't been on TV here is the one the Cubs decide to win! Any chance we can carry over those extra 5 runs we scored into tomorrow's game?

Interesting move by Lou putting Big Z into the pen. I guess he has to do something since the only guys in there that can get any outs are Marshall and Marmol. We're just like the Royals, so far we've gotten great starting pitching and we've got a good closer but we can't get from the 7th to the 9th with a lead!
Here's nothing new. The Rays still can't hit lefties. Look for another perfect game tomorrow from Buerhle. This will kill all momentum from our win streak. Its embarrassing to watch
This is for Slick.

So, the angels bullpen gave away the game last night, ruining an excellent performance by Jared Weaver. Regardless, I'm am very surprised by how well the starting pitching has been doing in the last 6 games.

Also, Greinke really needs to get on a team that can score some runs. He's too good to be stuck in Kansas City.
Great comecack for the Braves last night. We'll see how the do against Halladay tonight. Well I won't as it will probably be over by the time I get home.
Well, not so great. Halladay was lights out, throwing a 5 hit, complete game shutout.

Halladay is 4-0 already, ERA of .082 or something. :hot:

The mets took their first series!!!!!!!!!!! watch out Natties we are coming to reclaim where we should be. A overpaid 4th place divisional team.

Did anyone actually catch what happened between A-Rod and Braden today? MLB Tonight showed the replay of the foul ball Cano hit, but needless to say, no one on the crew even thought to follow A-Rod jogging back to first (why would you?).

The pitching has looked good lately. To bad Wright, Bay and Francouer can't hit right now. At least Ike Davis looks promising.

Wright is scaring me. I thought last year he was messing with his swing to much and that might have been the reason he was striking out so often. He seems to be striking out just as much if not more so far this season. And I know it's early, but so far Jason Bay has been a huge disappointment and he is looking like another player the Mets overpaid for.

Wright has been pressing wayyyy too much. If you notice every game like how Keith pointed out, his stance has been changing every single game. He either squats to far down or not at all, he always looks like he wants to kill the ball which attributes to him being more swing happy....Johnson needs to fix him and make him start working counts and getting hits. Sure the long ball is great but we need to improve hitting with RISP. once he can be the old Wright who worked counts, i think he will be fine again. Plus also i think the center of attention has gotten to him. He was a product of a great lineup with Delgado, Beltran and a hot hitting Reyes hitting around him. But now he is the focus of our offense, i think David is trying to do way too much to get his numbers back. If he gets more RBIs and hits 20-25 home runs than its a good season for him. he needs to know that. He walks a TON but he SOs a ton. its like he got eh Frenchy disease.

Bay is streaky as shit. He was hot last year than after the AS break he fizzled. This year might just be a reversed mirror image of it. If Bay doesnt start hitting by mid may early June...than yea start pointing him to Bust rating. This lineup doesnt need power hitters we need clutch hitters.

I am more worried about the bullpen. Manuel again is misusing the pen will overwork Nieve to shit. he already made 11 appearances and pitched full innings. I specifically dont want nieve to have a weak arm by september. we dont need to ruin another pitcher.

Until the Mets get rid of Maine and Perez and can have their pitching last beyond 6 innings, we will stay in last place. Heck Santana cant even go 7 anymore. Ive only seen him gone 7 in two starts and in the other two it was 5 and 6. We need our pitchers to start going deep in to games. we will have a ton of dead arms with the way things are looking.

Finally saw the video of the A-Rod/Braden incident. Kind of unnecessary for A-Rod to run right over the mound like that, but to say Braden over-reacted would probably be an understatement. Don't really see the big deal at all. He sort of made himself look like an ass, especially by compounding it in the post game by saying there would be "repercussions" if it happens again. If by the grace of the baseball gods a similar situation arises the next time the two teams meet and Braden is pitching, I would love to see A-Rod act like he's going to do it again, and then juke past the mound.

I love that shit. Maybe it was being raised up in baseball by my grandfather's stories of Don Drysdale, but I friggin love pitchers that are intentionally unhinged. I wish more pitchers were willing to get crazy out there.
Yankees just turned a triple play against the A's. Too bad they are losing 4-2 in the top of the 7th.
Around the horn no less, very tough to do.

And Halladay will finish 27-3 at this point.

I am just pissed that the Yankees lost to that Cry Baby who spazzed out because Arod crossed the pitchers mound. Guy was winning 4-2 and about to have a Paul O'Neill attack on the water cooler over what happened. A's need to get the kid some anger management classes.

I don't think it was a big deal that he was so angry. MLB players (and most atheletes in general) are people of extreme habit and extreme superstition.

Just another classless move by A-Rod. He knew what he was doing and was intentionally trying to rattle Braden. This is just one of many incidents that prove how poor A-Rod's character really is. I agree that Braden overreacted for sure but I loved seeing the kid stand up for himself.

A-Rods post-game comments reeked of arrogance yet again. I'd love to see him get drilled and act all hard about it. I think we remember what happened last time he tried to act like a tough guy.
I thought it was universally agreed upon that A-Rod was a classless slime-ball, even among Yanks fans?
but this is the sports world. If said player performs beyond his abilities even after crime is committed than all is forgotten ;)

See: Ray Lewis, Manny Ramirez et al..

I have always found A-Rod to be very classless and bush league (slapping the ball, yelling "ha," saying he was leaving the Yankees right in the middle of someone else's World Series, etc.), but after whatever "revelation" he had last offseason, he seemed to be better. I did find him running across the mound unnecessary. I don't blame him for letting off some steam in the post-game, though. He was getting shown up on the field by some guy with a career losing record and an ERA over 4 and 1/2. If I was a player of A-Rod's abilities and resume, I'd probably would have had some choice words for Braden, too.
Just like it's a Classless move by an Organization that still acts like 2004 and 2007 were legit. Did Ortiz ever figure out how he tested positive? Still waiting for his answers. Good thing Arod got "beat up" by Fairytek who kept his catchers mask on.

In fact, I recall this the last time Arod acted like a tough guy. 15th inning walkoff homerun.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KpGRym901uk&feature=related
I dont see how 2004 and 2007 would be any less legit when I'm sure 90% of the championships won within the last 30 years have had steroid users. That includes your beloved Yankees with Pettitte, Clemens and even A-Rod himself. I think thats just baseball unfortunatly.

Not sure what hitting homers has to do with anything regarding Alex. Nobody has ever questioned his ability on the field. Hes one of the greatest hitters of all time. Hes just a very pathetic human being, thats all. Even most true Yankee fans would agree to that. His arrogance and sense of entitlement is way over the top.

By the way, I'm not just a Yankee hater even though Im from Mass. I like Tex, Cano, Jeter, CC, Phil Hughes, Granderson , Swishy, and Joba even though he has a massive hard-on for Youk.

PS: Please tell me your the douche yelling "THATS GOING ON YOUTUBE TOMORROW". That would be priceless.

Congrats to Ike Davis on hitting his first major league homerun.

Mets win 5-2 as Nate McLouth missed a tying 3 run shot by 1 foot to the right of the RF foul pole. I am sure Intel almost head a heart attack.

Teixeira just made pretend that he was a Freight Train heading into home as he knocked the fucking shit out of the Angels catcher Wilson who went back and hit his head on the ground and twisted his leg. Expect a ton of replays on Baseball Tonight and Sportscenter. I hope Wilson is ok because it looked like Pete Rose Ray Fossey.

The Mets actually look good the past week or so...See how long they can make this last.

I still do not like the fact of Reyes batting third.

I guess beating up on the Cubs was just what the Mets needed to get back on their feet... The Cubs scored 8 runs last night so that means they spent their weeks' run allowance in one game. I'm interested to see how Lilly does in his return and how Z pitches out of the pen.

Z has really pitched pretty well since he got bombed on opening day. The problem is it doesn't matter how well the starters pitch we can't score any runs for them.

yeah seriously. when did they start to wake up. this is a new feeling for me. 5-1 in the last 6 and back to back series win. Ike hit his first bomb....i am actually happy for once.

Mets got a huge gift with Escobar being a dumb idiot standing on 3rd after a deep fly by Glaus.

Pettitte with another great start tonight. 3-0 to start the season with a 1.3 era.

It's a 162 game season. Good or bad, a six game stretch is almost completely meaningless.

I hate not being able to judge pitching matchups. Keeper league I've been in for 6 years and I haven't been able to get the team out of last place since I took over the team from someone who left the league (started in 01 without me.)

Zito going against Wainwright and I have Zito. Normally I know the Cards can't hit soft-tossing lefty's but I figured Wainwright is a bad matchup as the Cards usually either score 5 or zero runs in his starts so I don't start Zito because I don't fully trust him (just picked him up this week to replace Aaron Cook.)

Zito goes on to shutdown the Cards for 8 plus with 10K's and is going to get the win unless the Giants bullpen blows it as Wainwright ran out of gas in the 8th and gave up 2 runs.

At least the rain/tornado's came through the St. Louis area (and much worse further south, condolonces to those in Ark/Miss/Louis) now so that we have some sunshine and maybe better results in 7-game homestand this week.

seriously, i dont really care. when your in NY, every game matters....i dont know why i care so much but i do. plus i thought this team wouldnt win a game after the Rockies series and than they turn it around suddenly and take two straight series? for all i care the mets can go .500 but as long as they remain competitive and are in games. Ill be happy. you will see me get pissed at every loss and see me get estatic after every win. Its how much im into baseball.

put it this way. 5-1 for the mets is something we felt like we havent seen in a long time and something we never thought we would see this year. Thats how much everyone is down on this team. So atleast these streak of wins can bring some good back in us....even though it is just the beginning of the season.

Cubs with 12 runs so far today. White Sox are coming off back to back walkoff homeruns off of the Mariners.

If we could only play the Brewers for the rest of the season...

Damn rain. Why couldn't you have rained an inning earlier? I was relying on rain so mccann couldn't beat me in my fantasy matchup, and instead, he ties me, and his bench has more points than mine. To make matters worse, my opponent is my dad. >_>

Mets with a sweep....wow. Two series wins in a row and above .500. I have a feeling this will be the high point of this season.

The exact opposite happened to me. Tied in W, SV, and Ks, and my opponent had 2 players from the bullpen. That rainout saved me at least the K category. Sucks to lose to dad.
