The problem is, if they cut Matthews and Pagan gets hurt (we know he will at some point) who plays CF?
yeah i know which most likely will happen with pagan...but they can just bring up Jason Pride who is the Bison's CF hitting 297 with 41 Rbis...ill take him over matthews anyday.

Jimbo- Senior was a great ball player in his hay day..but JR had 1 decent season with a sport center highlight. after that he stinks and before that he stunk.

Oh yeah Mets got their first come from behind victory! They hit with RISP, Bullpen was lightsout, and a great catch by Ike....i was happy with last nights performance. hope this gets Bay and Wright out of their Strikeout mess and all is left is Frenchy.

KRod blows it again in the 9th. What is else new.

Yankees have good news and bad news. Good news is that Javy pitched 7 innings, 2 runs, 5 hits and 7 k's. The bad news is that the offense flat out sucks and the Yankees lost their 3rd straight.
K-Rod not earning his paycheck yet again.
:bomb::bomb::bomb::bomb::bomb::bomb::bomb:

The natties are coming alive and they get most of their runs from the pitcher....How fucking disgraceful. Big Pelf, really dissappointing and yeh i am leaning with you on K-Rod. the constant 9th inning blow ups remind me of Armando Benetiz.

I guess Clippard is not over rated. He pitched lights out today for his 7th win. I think the natties just jumped the Mets for second place. If the Mets lose the next series to the fish, than there has to be a serious look at the current roster and changes have to be made soon.

I know. It's hard for me to root against his son though when I like Sarge so much.

Pelf pitched ok. He limited the damage. No excuse to give up a 2 run single to a pitcher but he still did an ok job today. The offense is the one to blame for the loss. For example, Reyes can't get a bunt down after a lead off single by Cora in the 7th and then grounds into a double play. Why is Reyes batting 3rd if he is going to sac bunt?!?!?!

I also agree with bringing up Pridie and dumping Matthews Jr. Like I said in the beginning of the year, I rather lose with young guys, giving them a shot to play, then old washed up veterans.

Edit: Reyes was asked to bunt, so it was Manuels call. WOW what a stupid call. I know Reyes has been struggling but he hit a RBI double earlier. If he is going to bat 3rd than let him hit. The 3rd spot in the order should not be bunting. Get Reyes out of that spot. I would go Pagan, Reyes, Wright, Bay, Davis, Francoeur, Barajas, Castillo. When Reyes heats up put him in the lead off spot where he belongs. Move Castillo up to 2 and depending on how Francoeur is doing put Pagan 6 or 7.

Phil Hughes is in flat out beast mode this season so far.

5-0 1.40 ERA 0.91 Whip 39 K's, 14 Walks, 21 hits, 39 Innings, 6 earned runs Batting Average Against of .160

BEAST!

Manny hit a 410 foot bases loaded double last night. In 27 parks, it would have been a grand slam putting him 1 behind the all time grand slam leader.

Back to .500 and back to a positive run differential. 4 wins in a row, and 6 of 7. Two pretender teams ahead of us in the standings. Kuroda looked great.

We're gonna live and die by our pitching. If Bills and Kershaw don't come around, that'll be the end of us.
His BABIP is .213, HR/FB rate is 2.9, and his stranded % is 83.9. All of those will normalize; still, he'll probably have a mid 3 ERA by the end of the season.
What are the lotto #'s for tomorrow Nostradamus?

I just realized they walked Ethier to load the bases to get to Manny before his 3 run double. Jesus.

Is there a better offensive outfield in baseball?
What are the lotto #'s for tomorrow Nostradamus?
All of those peripherals are WILDLY off from the norm. Considering the lowest BABIP of the last ten years (didn't feel like going back further) is .234, and there have been only three pitchers with a season-long BABIP of under .240 during that time, have fun believing Hughes can keep his BABIP where it is. Also, his HR/FB rate and LOB% are also the best rates any pitcher has posted since those stats have been tracked.

I don't know what to tell you if you really think he's going to put up the luckiest rates the game has seen in all three categories in one season. Perhaps I should be asking you for the lotto numbers.
another day another loss....4th place here we come!
Welcome to my world! Does anyone want to win the NL Central this year? The Cubs have been in free fall mode for several weeks but are still only 5 games out. If the Cubs can't win the division then I hope anyone but the Cardinals does.

Even the Reds with that moron Dusty Baker running the show.

Hughes has been sick so far this year. I think that stint in the bullpen last season gave him the confidence he needed in his fastball, because he's been blowing it past hitters.

So Jerry Manuel has asked our 3rd hitter to bunt two games in a row....

I always thought Jerry was an average manager that could not handle pitchers well but could motivate his team to play to their best potential. He has proved me wrong. He cannot even put a batting order together correctly. If you are going to bat Jose Reyes third than you better expect him to drive in a run from second with no outs. Not bunt him over to third. Now I'm not giving Jose an excuse for not executing a bunt 2 games in a row, but the guy did not play all of last year, missed most of spring training and you expect him to adapt to being a 3 hitter when he has been batting lead off his whole career?!?

Jerry better put him back at lead off and let Jose start trying to play like the old Jose. It's bad to say this but I do hope the Mets continue to struggle so we can dump Manuel and hopefully Minaya as well. This has gone on long enough.

Well our number three hitter doesn't have a hr in 162 straight ab's dating back to last year and he has bunted in 3 rbi's this year (2 or 3 don't remember exactly).

Couldnt have said it any better myself. I would actually like to see them bat Ike 3rd. he is showing he is mature enough and we need some power there and move Jose back to lead off...though Pagan is hot, you can slot him second and move Castillo down to 7 or 8. Castillo has been hitting pretty good this year so it could help increase his RBI numbers...but yea, this shit has been going on way too long. how many more times will
he stick Nieve in there...the kid will be burnt out by mid june.

Jose is just clearly not comfy in the 3rd spot. He isnt an RBi guy...the dude is a steals OBPS guy. When we have him tearing the base pads we win....why can't jerry understand this....but again i hope the stupidity continues so these two can get dumped....

the only bright side to last night was that it looked like his last starts was just bad starts..he came back on fire. I am at least happy about that...he is showing a ton of resiliency. Something we should expect outta him.

I rather Ike bat down more like 5. Put Wright in the third spot. Yeah he has been striking out a lot but he still produces and he is our best hitter.

Ollie with a great game tonight. Through 3 1/3 innings.

9 hits, 3 walks, 7 runs and 4 homeruns. 3 of the homeruns came within 4 batters in the 4th inning.

i had enough also. He is never going to be right. Let him sit in the minors until he gets it in his head that if he keeps pitching like that....NO ONE will want to pay him anything. Also another disappointing day offensively. Wright/Bay/Reyes combined 1-10. This is getting fucking UGLY!

So is John Maine turning into the next Ollie? 40 pitches in the first inning, 4 walks and 3 runs. He walked the bases loaded with 12 pitches.

GIANT STEP BACK for him today.........well there you have it folks. The REAL New York Mets Finally stood up.

keep tanking and my and Dom's dream may come true of the firing of Manuel and Minaya...and then hopefully they can retool this team to do something..........but wait a minute that will never happen as long as Jeff Dolan err i mean Wilpon stays in power.

edit: not to mention the power part of the lineup is a utter joke. Wright now leads the league in SO but he did hit a bomb......bay had a rare multi hit game..and now jeff Francoeur is 0-20! Really???? Is it getting this bad now for this guy....

Ok so Manuel finally gets its and put Reyes back at lead off and hey what do you know Reyes gets 2 hits and scores twice. Sounds like Manuel made a good move...and then you look at who he bats in the third spot...Angel Pagan?!?!?!? Seriously they pick the best guys to run our team.
3,4,5 should be Wright, Bay and Ike. Mejia keeps on getting exposed and the league appears to be figuring him out.
They said now Mejia is probably going to be sent down to the Minors to develop as a starter. They should have never brought him up.

So Carter is getting his first start as a Met. I like that since Francouer can't hit anything right now. But (as you can see with Jerry Manuel's managing there is always a but) Carter is batting fourth?!?!?!?

yep which is what all met fans wanted done earlier was to develop him as a starter. Leave that to the 3 great minds running this organization.

Frenchy getting the day off because he is now 5-45 this month and now hitting .215. This guy needs a new approach to everything he is doing.

Im ok with Carter getting clean up. Its not like any of the other hitters have proven they can hit that spot...so why not let the rook take a shot at it. I'm near done already since this team doesnt have a legit 3-4 hitter and their pitching is in shambles. 1st place was a cock tease and now we are heading back to where we should be. You can't win games when your team needs this much tooling so early in the season.

Atleast now Ollie can ruin in us in inning and not in 3. Sent him to the bullpen but this kid will never be fixed. HE IS DONE! Maine may not be too far behind him either...17 balls before he threw his first strike...WTF?

Perez said he would not except being sent down to the Minors. You know how the Mets are, they won't eat a contract for that much money so they just put him in the bullpen. I can't see him working out whatever he needs to work out by going into the bullpen.

I rather put Wright at 3 and Bay 4. We are paying Bay all that money he should be our 4 hitter and I would keep in there until he can prove himself. I still think Wright is a legit 3 hitter and I think three things are hurting him. He is pressing to much and putting the whole team on his shoulders, right now he has no protection in the order like last year, and I think that pitch he took in the head last year is still affecting him.

Mets give up 6 runs in the bottom of the 3rd. Yeesh and Niese only lasted 2 full innings. Bullpen is being worn out as Ollie lasted 2 1/3 and Maine lasted 5 innings.

yeah he used to be so patient at the plate but now he is swinging for the fences....plus Bay has never settled in yet....he better by July or thats really it for the Metsies. Carter had a hit and LONG out..but was pulled for a guy that is 12-95....sure the mets rallied today but jerry keeps making dumb moves. one more step out of the door hopefully.

yep not good....This is the first time ever the Marlins swept the Mets at home and the Mets are now in last place, 2 games below .500, and lost to the two of the mediocre teams in the NL East...doesnt get any easier when we have ATL for 2 and the Natties(who will sweep us for 2) and then a weekend home series against the Yankees. Before you know it we will 9 games under and will become the worst highest paid franchise in Major League Baseball History. We are the New York Knicks of baseball..this is pathetic.

The only thing I can give the Mets credit for, they are in every single game. Even when they lose, they have the tying runs on base in the 8th or 9th innings.

Guy is the most overrated closer in all of baseball who has got nothing but lucky the past couple of seasons. This is due to all of the baserunners he has put on base and the fact that most of his saves were almost blown.

Red Sox OF has to take a good share of credit for the loss. A ton of misplayed balls in the OF that should have been caught lead to numerous runs.

One bad start. Everyone has bad starts. If he has a string of them, then you can say he's come back down.

One "bad start" where great hitters worked the count and tired him out by the 5th. One bad pitch on a 1-2 count turned a 6-2 decent 5 innings into a 6-5 average start. I wouldn't be too worried. Guy would have gone 6 innings strong if Pedroia didn't put in a great 10 pitch at bat.

Saying he is overrated and lucky is a bit much. Look at his stats since 2006.
Saying he is overrated and lucky is a bit much. Look at his stats since 2006.
I have seen him pitch hundreds of times. Guy plays with fire most of the time and is lucky to get out of it in the past without giving up a run or blowing the save. It's like John Wetteland levels from the mid 90's. Come into a 1 run game, put a runner on base, runner gets moved over to 3rd and you get the last out without blowing the game. I would say 75 percent of the time I have seen Papelbum pitch this year he has been playing with fire. That is alot higher this year.

Really do not want to use sonsofsamhorn.net as a reference but even the most normal/cool headed Sox fan on there wants Papelbum off their team. Most of the Sox fans are thankful that the Sox didn't lock him up long term.

2006 ERA 0.92 Saves 35 Blown Save 6 WHIP 0.78
2007 ERA 1.85 Saves 37 Blown Save 3 WHIP 0.77
2008 ERA 2.34 Saves 41 Blown Save 5 WHIP 0.95
2009 ERA 1.85 Saves 38 Blown Save 3 WHIP 1.15

I think those are pretty good numbers. Yeah his WHIP has been up a little the past couple years but being lucky....nope.

Papelbon's xFIP, last several years:

2006: 3.08
2007: 2.90
2008: 2.38
2009: 3.98
2010 (before tonight): 4.75

Now, xFIP assumes all pitchers to have the same HR/FB rate, and this skews Papelbon's xFIP in a negative manner; Papelbon has had a FIP of 2.69 in his career, with his ERA falling about 3/4 of a run lower than that.

Final verdict: kind of lucky, mostly pretty good. Performance is declining.

I said he has been playing with fire. Papelbum for the most part is a pretty closer but he is definately overrated and cause angina for Red Sox fans. He is the modern day version of Wetteland. He will put the leadoff runner on base in a 1 run game and that runner always seems to get over to 2nd or 3rd with less than 2 outs. He will then get a strike out and ground out/pop out to end the game. It seems like every save recently that I have seen he is playing with fire.
