Cameron, Ellsbury, and Drew is not solid offensively, there might've been 50 home runs between the three of them. Cameron was just a stopgap until they can pick up a power hitting corner outfielder that they're willing to pay.

15 errors isn't a swipe, its a mack truck.
 
I've never understood the Yankees. Money is no object to them, but not only won't they pay someone to perform the Anthem, they play the same public domain copy that everyone's heard so they don't have to pay any royalties to anyone.

At least have the organist play it.

It's comical that you're defending Beltre's fielding. The guy is an error machine. Career fielding percentage below .960. That's pretty bad. He's having a great year for the Sox though.
 
J.D. Drew has been, on average, 35% better offensively than league average at RF over the course of his career. He has a career OBP of .389. That's not only solid, that's great. Cameron carries a 111 wRC+ in his career, and is stellar defensively. Ellsbury produced a 114 wRC+ last season at the age of 25. All above average offensively, and Drew and Cameron are two of the best in baseball in the field, and Ellsbury has serious range. I understand you're bummed because injuries have killed the season, dafoomie, but you're WAY off mark on this one.

Also, Beltre has 15 errors and is STILL the fifth best rated 3B in baseball with the glove, being 12.5 runs above average over 150 games. Know why? Because the guy covers a ridiculous amount of ground, and gets to balls that nobody outside of maybe Longoria or Zimmerman can get to. And this is statistically proven fact, not some made up observational BS.

And if you want to go by fielding percentage, the best defensive 3B in baseball this season, Ryan Zimmerman, has a .953 clip. Beltre's is .952.

Hell, I'm not even a Red Sox fan, and I'm dumbfounded on this topic.

Looking at ESPN.com's fielding percentage stats Ryan Zimmerman is 15th in the MLB in fielding percentage and Beltre is 16th.
 
And J.D. Drew misses a quarter of the season on average. And Mike Cameron is old, and shockingly, he got hurt.

Cameron's an excellent defensive outfielder but Drew is probably only above average. Ellsbury has range but he gets a terrible jump on the ball, he dives for balls that he should be camped under.

Cameron's a good offensive player especially for a center fielder but he replaced Jason Bay who was top 10 in OPS, slugging, and 3rd in HR.

And both of those guys have ranges that are literally strides beyond anyone else in the game not named Longoria.

Who is better, the guy with a few more errors but is a human super-gravitational field, or the guy who is sure-handed but operates in a telephone booth? I can almost guarantee you that a few of Beltre's and Zimmerman's errors came to be because they rushed a throw to beat a runner on a ground ball that nobody else in baseball would have been able to get, or bobbled the ball or lost it out of their glove for the same reason.

dafoomie, the point wasn't that the Red Sox were going to have the best outfield in baseball; my point was that heading into the season, they had an above average offensive outfield that would also be very good defensively. You could certainly do worse than what they had coming into the season.

I don't think signing Bay to a 4 or 5 year contract would have been a good move, either. Had they signed a 2 year, 36 million deal or something, that would have made sense.
 
I hate how Fox insists on showing baseball on widescreen even if being played on the SD channel. If I wanted to watch it in widescreen HD, i'd go into the other room. Right now, I want my TV with a full screen.
 
The recent White Sox vs. Orioles series has been tough for me. I'm a fan of both teams overall. Part of me wanted to see the Orioles win more games, but mostly I want to see the White Sox win the AL Central. Therefore, I can't say I'm too happy about the Orioles winning the series because of that. If the Orioles were winning the AL East, I might not have cared.
 
The Yanks are looking good. Making their move and should be smooth sailing from now on. Pitching will be the key to their success.

I found it convenient that they moved Burnett. But it was a smart move on their part, wildpac would be proud if he wasn't dealing with family stuff. Hoping Lester can get back to form to split the series and gain some ground on Tampa.
 
So I'm watching the repeat of yesterday's Yanks/Sawks game. And I didn't realize it at the time (nor would I have realized it if I was the batter), but Tex almost got hit by a way inside fastball with 2 outs in the ninth. Oviously, instinct is to not get hit... But then I just thought about it, it would have been more beneficial to get hit. You then have the tying run on base, and A-Rod up with a new count, instead of the tying run at the plate with 2 strikes...

So the Yankees lost to the umpires last night! Fantastic strike zone by the POS Home Plate Ump. Yankees leading 2-1 with runners on first and 2nd with 1 out. Gardner has a 2-1 count and Oliver throws a pitch chin high that gets called for a strike. Gardner then strikes out looking on an extreme borderline outside pitch. Congrats to the Umpires on winning that hard fought out game.

Oooooo and the Yankees are going to have to figure out long and hard what to do with Jeter. He is turning into a very light hitting ss who has the range of a snail. Over paying for Arod after 2007 is one thing. Over paying for Jeter after 2010 is going to be something entirely different. Jeter is going to want 3-4 times what he is really worth after this year. In a perfect world, he takes a huge pay cut, plays ss 80 games next year, dh's the rest, 4th outfielder and gets moved the hell out of the 1 spot. Yogi, Mickey and Rizzuto all accept demotions/changes in the lineup, playing different positions. Jeter should follow suit.


Jesus Montero cannot come up soon enough!!!!!!!!! Is it August 30th, 31st yet? I want him up in the majors immediately so he can be on the playoff roster. There is a good chance he can do for the Yankees this year what Miggy did for the Marlins in 2003. 20 year old feasting in AAA against players who on average are 5 years older than him. If I were a Mariners fan, I would be pissed that the Mariners took Smoak over him.

Rangers blow a 6-1 lead going into the 6th inning against the Yankees in a Cliff Lee start. Yankees win 7-6. hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha. Even better was that Rivera got out of a runner on 3rd no outs with the top of the order in the bottom of the 9th. Thats what the Rangers get for cheating on Tuesday night.

As a Yankee fan, I hope they don't trade Papelbon and keep Bard as the 8th inning guy. Bard's filthy stuff makes Papelbon's hittable.
 
This was likely Papelbon's last season here no matter how it went. The guy has gotten worse every season he's been in the league and doesn't want to change.

Do the Sox really want to pay any part of his salary to trade him? And if they did, they would likely do so by sending him to an NL team. But some people for keeping him brought up a good point. Sure, he's struggled and lost a step, but by moving him, you have to take a shot at some guys that may or may not be able to handle the pressure in Boston. If he gets moved and the Sox don't just eat his salary, then good. But as of now, Bard and Papelbon have been the 2 best relievers for the Sox. Sure, Paps has done the team in, when it comes to gaining ground and such, but does anyone really think the Sox can deal a 10 + mil closer? Hell, maybe we can send him to the Mets and tell Omar that he has Hispanic heritage in his ancestry.
 
Dodgers are a fucking joke. Broxton shits his pants whenever he has to face the Fillies. Dodgers had a 9-2 lead in the bottom of the 8th and give up 4 runs in the 8th and the 9th to blow the game. Broxton didn't even record an out in the 9th.

Rivera had pitched back to back days, and I'm sure wasn't available. Joe had a 3 run lead in the 9th to play with. It wasn't pretty. But it worked. And if it came down to it, I'd rather lose a game to the Royals than lose Rivera to injury. You're the only person I know who bitches when his team wins. And stop talking about "salvaging the season" when we have the best record in baseball. It makes you look like the motherfucking moron.
 
There is no doubt that the yanks will make to the playoffs this year. Look for the Yanks to finish strong like last year. Any manager will do well when you have an all star/future hall of famer on every position.

When did I ever claim that Rivera should come into the game? Did I post anything about Rivera? I am fully aware that Rivera had just pitched 2 days in a row in high leverage/pressure situations against the Rangers. But since you want to bring up Rivera and injury. Why the fuck is Clueless Joe 2.0 using Rivera in a 7-2 game last week to get 1 out against the Red Sox? Shouldn't be using a 40 year old pitcher who might get injured in such a meaningless situation.


No Clueless Joe 2.0 is a moron because he should have taken CC out after the 8th inning with a 3 run lead. Especially when CC was getting hit all night and wasn't getting any K's. Yankees were on the verge of blowing a game that they should have won. I wasn't looking to use Rivera. The fact that the game was almost blown was Clueless Joe 2.0.


Clueless Joe 1.0 blew a 9-2 lead against the Fillies in the 8th and 9th innings.

I really hate the mets. I just do now. No excuse of injuries this year. They friggin stink. I just got back from my yearly vacation in VA Beach and met a ton of Met fans there that own shops there. They all had the same consensus as the fans back home. i sold my ticket for tomorrow's philly game. I just cant stand this pathetic baseball where runs come at a whim which gives pitchers hell because even 1 run they lose.....but yet we are plagued by sex assault cases and a over rated angry closer who beats up old people. Just contract this sorry excuse of a ball club because they do not belong in NY. The Mets of yesteryear do but not the Mets of this decade. This organization sucks and i wont ever go to a game again until the wilpons are out. im sick of spending tons of money at a ballpark that was never designed to be Met-like in the first place. IT was fucking dodger like. fuck you wilpons. I hate your fucking guts and i hope you guys eat shit.

That did what they had to do to get him. They wouldn't get the chance next year, assuming the Pirates took him at the top (since the Nats would have gotten the 2nd pick as comp)

I HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE THE YANKEES OFFENSE. They can go out and beat up on Verlander and knock him out after 5 innings. Throw some rookie scrub never will be but straight back to the minors for the rest of his career and the Yankees offense will make him look like Koufax, Maddux and Bob Gibson rolled into 1.

it happens to almost every team. if a guy has at least decent stuff he can stifle the offense because there is no book on him.

theres that guy in oakland that got a perfect game and adam garlarraga in detriot that basically got one and they both sucked ever since. its baseball.
