The "club nintendo" stuff makes me seethe with jealousy. Even stuff I wouldn't play, like "Tingle's Baloon Fight." And the (collector's) cases for the Famicom GBA releases? Bad-ass, and such an incentive would have led to me purchasing the games, instead of getting whatever was leftover in clearance at TRU. Sure, Super Mario Bros and Zelda sold well, but others collected dust, and the entire series was ditched after two sets of releases. How many NES Classics does the US have compared to Japan? That's not so much a product of NoJ *caring* for their customers more, but, rather, different theories of marketing and promotion (which, in the case of NoA, led to $2-5 copies of Bomberman, Xevious, and Metroid).

The VC stuff I can live without, because I know it's temporary. More than anything, I don't care for the "classic" stuff, but I'm more interested in rare titles, old RPGs I never got around to, and imported games (Hagane, Sin and Punishment).
Club Nintendo will forever be my example of how Nintendo has drastically different business plans for Japan and the US. I believe the plan for the US is somewhere along the official lines of "they'll buy our shit anyway, why give 'em anything for free"

I could get into the lack of online support as well but that's just an entirely different can of worms all together and outside the scope of this thread.
22. Bayou Billy (NES)
Ewwww... To each their own.

89. Castlevania 64 (yeah, I enjoyed it)

You n' me both, and perhaps one other person. I think it's aged well as a partial result of many platformers from that era aging pretty poorly (IMO) - as a result, Castlevania was always a slightly-below-average platform title, but the gap between it and the top platformers of the day has shrunk over time. I really thought the N64 sequel was a far better title, but not often played because people expected it to be as bad as the first title.

A nice thorough list with a lot of redundant classics (FF, Zelda, Mario) and unexpected titles that were really good (Nemo).

I guess I am much older than a lot of the users on this forum, but it's good to know some people respect the classic NES games from my time (Nemo was a childhood favorite). There are a lot of NES games that I used to love but didn't put them on this list since I don't believe too many people would understand.
Great list Tayaf69
Thanks

Anyone here try sim city? I have an urge to play that (I would play on my PC but nobody can make a PC clone good enough), but is it worth the 800 points.

Thanks
You'd pay for Bayou Billy?

Man, I remember renting that crap. Haha. Still one of my fave roms though.
I remember this game VERY well.
Was this the only SNES game to have some CG?
Man it looked good, but, only so much you can do with only Punch and Kick.

And in 2 player mode, 1st player could only play as the blue guy right? Arg!
How funny, what were they thinking?

Before Roufuss gets irate, I'll mention that the Donkey Kong Country series used the same style.

We can create another thread for the SA games, if you like. It's not really relevant here (though I started it with the Bayou Billy cover).

Irate?

Why?

I'm not really a fan of DKC (DKC 3 soured me on the series), I just throw it into what I talk about since alot of people cherish it and everyone else has it ;)

I would buy all 3 on the VC though because I have no willpower.

I wish other companies would start putting their stuff on the Genesis VC. Contra: Hard Corps needs to come out immediately.

Ah, it's ok. I'm not going to post any more.

I know the game itself had the same graphic style, I was talking about the CG movies like the intro, character introductions, and possibly ending (as I didn't play it long enough to find out).

Well, since we're seeing some Konami support on the VC (Castlevania, Contra Spirits, Gradius), it's not so much a matter of *if* as it is *when*.

Have patience, young padawan.

Bayou Billy has the FUNKIEST soundtrack ever. Seriously, you can't help but shake your ass to it.
You'll never see Little Nemo on the VC, because I believe it's a licensed game.
Never knew that, wow. I would like to replay that game sometime (when I was like 5 that game scared the crap out of me for some reason and I sold it), but now I guess I never will, sigh. Well I just checked the Wiki and the comic strip is now public domain, but is this game based off the comic strip or the movie?

*cough* emulatorandromsveryeasytofind *cough*

Is it bad for me to admit that I still own a Bayou Billy cart? It seems that everyone I knew had that game. In my neighborhood, it was nearly as ubiquitous as the SMB/Duck Hunt pack-in.

I still own the cart. It had the best use of the NES Lightgun on the entire system. I still remember the levels when you had to shoot the helicoptors. I never beat that game though...

I am surprised that so many people here owned or played that game (regardless of their opinion because I can see why people would hate it). I got it for Christmas one year when I was four years old and was never sure if it was a mainstream game. I guess it was. Truth is, had I been older I probably would have not purchased it, but I'm glad I was able to play it since I have good memories of the game.

I'll go out on a few limbs here since the BB wasn't only mine...did anyone ever play Gurilla War, Karate Kid, or Disney's Magical Themepark for the NES? I still own all of those as well.

I would say it was based on the movie. It came out after the movie did (I believe) and I used to watch it and was familiar with the levels in the game.
fuck Little Nemo and his stupid ass train level!!!!!
ha, that's the only level that comes to mind when I think of Little Nemo
Nope, the Little Nemo movie came out after the game. I vividly remember seeing the movie because I loved the game.
I guess I must have got the movie on vhs before getting the game. I was a kid so I don't remember

In the US, yes. In Japan, no.

The film came out in 1989 in Japan, and 1990 for the NES. It's all adapted from a cartoon strip, so the chances of Little Nemo on the VC are 0.

I just bought sim city today, great classic. *waits for money to increase :D*.

Only problem is the residents like to whine alot for example the guy said oh the residents like a 7% tax rate. Ok well then when I have it at 7% he says the people are complaining about the tax rate :bomb:

Not necessarily.

http://tess2.uspto.gov/bin/gate.exe?f=searchss&state=muhavi.1.1

This is a search for US trademarks, past and present alike. While there are a number of hits for "Little Nemo," they are all dead (expired). Nobody can take you to court for making "Little Nemo" anything (not true, but what is true is that there is nothing standing in the way of Little Nemo being released on the VC).

my personal recommendations:

Ristar- my first encounter of this game, actually, as I was quite the young'n when the genesis was around and I don't fully remember what games I played and didn't play other than Sonic)

Bonk's Adventure- bought it just so I could finally say I've played a Turbografx game. An excellent platformer, I must say.

Super Mario Bros.- I already own it for NES but I thought it would be handy to have on the Wii as well (I play this game ALOT, so it only makes sense)

Also, I'm sure most know but it should really be noted that

YOUR GAME WILL SAVE IF YOU RETURN TO THE MENU DURING GAMEPLAY!

I bought Gunstar Heroes, my first VC game. I can see this being like crack. I need more Wii Points.

Also, I purchased a SD with the sole purpose of it being to hold VC games. Now, do I just copy them from my machine to the SD card and hold them there? Is there a way to have it default save to the SD card? Are there disadvantages to putting them on the SD card?

It's only for backup, and only for backup on your personal machine.

Oh, I see. I'm going to do that, though.

And I got your Mii this morning. I sent you mine!

Ya, SD cards will come in handy if you download a ton of stuff and the Wii HD fills up, but not much use otherwise.

I didn't know this. I downloaded Mario 64, four other games, and the opera internet and my memory seems pretty low. So wtf is the point of having pages and pages of possible channels when you may run out of memory after 10-20 games???
Oh, I see. I'm going to do that, though.

Well, I was just able to steal my neighbors internet. :D

You're not the only one... Condemn me if you must, but I don't use it all the time. They still haven't locked up their connection. I wonder if these new wii owners are actually figuring out how to pick up unsecured wireless internet from neighbors and how many are unaware of it. It could present some wi-fi problems.

LOVED Karate Kid.

Nice graphics, I remember the 2nd level had rain.
Catching flies with chopsticks is a nice memory.
That 100 games list a few pages back was total BS, because I skimmed it and saw Mortal Kombat. Fail.
At least MK came out on the VC consoles - it was Street Fighter Alpha (1) that threw me off. Nevertheless, one small error doesn't negate an entire list. Besides, the SNES MK1 played *vastly* better than the Genesis version (though I hope they weren't asking for the Genesis version).

I have never been a fan of mortal kombat, but I do remember playing it with my friends on the snes. I was never a sega fan of fighter games. The controls weren't as fluid. Besides, it was just a list to show the games that I thought would sell, and I believe MK on the snes would sale (better than Xevious will). That wasn't a favorite 100 list by any means.

Was street fighter alpha never released here? I remember playing SFA2 all the time.
Was street fighter alpha never released here? I remember playing SFA2 all the time.
SFA2 was one of the last SNES titles to be released, but SFA was never released on any of the VC formats in any region. There may be a bootleg out there, however. I've never seen it.

It's a list of AAA titles... Mortal Kombat is a pretty big title.

Off topic completely...

It still seems like yesterday when I walked into my Wal-Mart and saw dozens of new copies of Chrono Trigger and Earthbound (with guide and smelly cards). I was young and had no idea what they were or what an rpg was for that matter. I bought them both for $15 a piece and they turned out to be two of my favorite games ever. If I could take back time I would have bought every single one of those games. I believe this was around the time the N64 was about to come out so Wal-Mart was clearancing SNES games.

I remember that time frame. One time at walmart when I was young, I specifically remember seeing Chrono Trigger and Mega Man X3 in clearance bins and asking my mom if I could get them. Well, that didn't happen.

I paid $59.99 at Wal-Mart back then.
I remember paying 69.99 at TRU for super mario rpg when it came out, fuck ED up :[
I was just looking up details on a couple games this afternoon (Illusion of Gaia and FFIII), was shocked to see that while FFIII had the astronomical $80 price tag, Gaia, released in the same year, was a reasonable $40. I guess Square was a little greedy back then.
