Damn, that's pretty lackluster. I'm glad I have yet to buy Castlevania IV and TJ&E that way I can pace my buying.

Have we heard anything about 3rd party companies releasing Genesis games on the VC?

I'd kill for Castlevania Bloodlines and Contra Hard Corps to show up...
Have we heard anything about 3rd party companies releasing Genesis games on the VC?

I'd kill for Castlevania Bloodlines and Contra Hard Corps to show up...
I don't see why not, I mean it would be fucking nice to play bloodlines again and hell CV IV is on the VC, so why not.

Oh and BTW if anyone cares I will check my Wii today at about 3 AM for the new VC games and post when they are up (since they were up at 3 AM EST last time) and if there is any surpsises.

So, we know that if you have your Nintendo.com account linked to your VC purchases that the VC titles show up in your "registered" products list (though it is a bit flaky - SMB doesn't show on the main page but I see it when I add another game in).

What I noticed today is that the "Internet Browser" is there in my list now! It is right in between Super Mario Bros. and Mario Kart Double Dash. So I guess this is an indication that any other "new" products downloaded via the Wii Shop will also be registered like any other game. It would be nice if someday all these registrations meant something though :bomb:.
the nightmare on elm street was a 4 player game. Very fun if you were lucky to get a multitap for the nes. Got nightmares when i saw freddy in the game....
This game was really fun but hard. I would probably buy it for $5.
Baseball and Urban Champ is on VC now for 500 points
Wow. So that's really all we are getting today, huh?

fuck 2007.

Is Gunstar Heroes and Castlevania IV worth it? Tempted to buy a points card and get them. Oh yes, and do they work ok with the GC controller? I don't feel like spending another $20 on a classic controller.

yes, yes they are.

To be fair, at least this indicates that we aren't going to get any surprises on the VC anytime soon; that Nintendo will honestly tell us what is coming out each subsequent week, and won't spring anything on Monday morning at noon.

I actually woke up today and first thing turned on the Wii to see what was on the VC because I somehow reasoned that we couldn't only get two games, but two games that the word "lackluster" doesn't even begin to describe. Lo and behold, Baseball and Urban Champion are all we get this week.

It's the gaming equivalent of your mom coming home with one bag of groceries and saying "boy, I hope ya like lentils, because Mom got laid off and has to go find a new job."

isn't it obvious they gave us sucky games no one would download incase there is a problem with them? All the techs would be too hungover to fix any problems.
No flying cars?

NO FLYING CARS!
We have till 2015. Assuming, of course, that Back to the Future is the truest canon and prophecy of future tech we have.

It's not like we have enough of the Wii points for flying cars anyways. :[

My guess is that they put up two crappy games so we would say, "Man, I got that Points card for Christmas, may as well get some of the stuff that's already up."

Sucks, though - I was looking forward to something good hitting on a rare day off.

Seeing as how Jaws is dead as a film franchise right now, Texaco is gone, and Pepsi's still aren't $50, I'm wondering what kind of future we're going to get. At least Wild Gunman WILL seem woefully outdated.

The conceit of playing games without a controller doesn't seem quite so crazy now, with the Wii...

"You have to use your hands? That's a baby's toy..."

And where's the freakin' hoverboards?!
I'm going to start a class action lawsuit against mattel in 8 years and get that shit made if Mattel doesn't get their act together.

I don't know about Castlevania, I'm not really interested in that, but I picked up Gunstar and it's quite fun. Works with the Wiimote.

Castlevania IV is definitely worth it, and it plays great with the Gamecube controller.

Hopefully we get something good next Monday, like Super Mario World or something.

I don't think Mario RPG is going to be $8. I hate to say it, but I just don't think it will be :(
Remember R-Type is a TG16 game and that's $8 ($2 more then the usual...) so we'll see.

Speaking of the TG16, I too read that Dungeon Explorer should be out today. Well it's 6:01pm for me, and it's not out. I've been wanting to try that game for awhile now.
SNES, so should be $8...but, who knows.
Is the February date just speculation based on it having been rated by the ESRB already or were there other sources for this? I know it's coming fairly soon, just curious.

Having never played this game, I wouldn't mind paying 3000 points (equivalent of a 1st party GBA game).
Wow. So that's really all we are getting today, huh?

Well Nintendo probably figured that the only way they can sell these games is release them before anything good. I mean sure it sucks now, but hey in 3 months we wont have to bitch about the earlier crappy NES games coming out because Nintendo released all of them already (or atleast I hope).

Just a little aside comment. I couldn't make any sense about why Nintendo was releasing games like Soccer, Tennis, Golf, Baseball on the Virtual Console, when so many of us plain don't like or never played these and have no interest?

I was doing some random wikipedia reading, looking at top selling videogames. All of those previously mentioned titles were multi-million sellers for Nintendo in Japan. I don't think this was the case in america. They probably recieved some priority for nostalgia value over there. And once they're ported in Japan, it's an easy decision to add them to the stack of US releases, for slow mondays like this one.

I'm sure they're much more popular in Japan.

Have to say, Super Mario Bros @ $5 is a fine investment. That game still holds up today. It doesn't have the magic that 3 or World have, but it's still a ton of fun: "Yeah, that's right Bowser, I skipped 90% of your levels and am knocking on your front door. What are you going to do about it?! Oh, chuck an endless stream of hammers and flames at me? Crap."

Few things are more satisfying than sneaking past the final boss, getting that axe, plunging Bowser into the fiery lake, and actually seeing the princess, all without being touched. :)
I'm sure they're much more popular in Japan.
A reasonable explanation, but one that doesn't hold up if you consider games they have that we do not yet. I can understand "Urban Champion," but if you're going to release it strategically, put it out on the same day as a medium-popular title. "Zelda" would sell itself, but something not quite on the radar (can't think of a good example ATM) would be enhanced that much more when coupled with a shitty game.

Like how each group of adolescent girls tend to hang around one fat girl so they look better by comparison, I suppose, would be one anology.

Maybe Nintendo also wanted to target the newcomers to the Wii system who love Wii Sports with these old sport games. Yeah, I also think if they release this stuff later with the good games out, then they'll likely sell less for sure.

It seems like whoever is in charge of VC titles simply doesn't have any idea what the fuck they are doing yet they're making enough money that they don't have to change. Just great.
I've seen exactly the same thing (with SMB) on my component cable HDTV setup. So I don't think it's the TV. I just figured the game was originally like that (only played it a few times 18 years ago).
While I haven't played the original version that much (at least besides pirated versions), I don't recall this being an issue at all so I surprised by seeing these issues in the game. Maybe my memory's not that good after all.
I played it on my crappy composite cables and I've seen it happen too, though I've only noticed it on world 8-4 with the piranna plants.
I see it more often then that, usually in the world 3-1 through 3-3 levels and maybe 4-1, too.

It's good to see that I'm not the only one experiencing these issues (maybe that's not so good either), so now I'm guessing it's a problem with the games unless it could have to do with the Wii. I'll have to see how it holds up when I head back to AZ and try it out on TV that were bought less than two year ago.
You guys who want SMB3, if you still have a GC, get the GameBoy player and the GBA cart.
And how many times more expensive would that be over the $5 cost it would take to play it on the Wii? Not worth it, despite how good that game is. I'd rather hold out and pay the cheap price compared to paying out the ass to play it ASAP.
I don't think it loses a thing. Me and my friends regularly play 2 player on the NES, and it's as fun as it ever was.

I think SMB3 established a lot of the series' staple gameplay. Super Mario World is good, better than most any other platformers, but it's got SMB3 on one side of it, and Yoshi's Island on the other. Not a favorable spot to be put for comparisons, as both are clearly far superior designs.
I'd have to agree for the most part. Something about Super Mario World just didn't pull me in like SMB3 and Yoshi's Island did. I'd also put SMB above it, too. I just got tired of Super Mario World quickly and barely played it at all for the few years I had my SNES compared to Yoshi's Island.

I don't know if it's just me, but SM64 sucked compared to the 2D games. I could never get into it at all. I'd even say SMB2 is slightly better than SM64 and I probably couldn't play that for more than 5 minutes at a time.

So where's Dungeon Explorer? I want this game, and now that I wanna try it oh so much I have a feeling I'm gonna be bored of it in 15 minutes or less :(

^ Anyone confirm that it's a solid game?

I think SMW is the pinnacle of the Mario platforming. I do however feel the same way about SM64. I do like SM64 now that I can play it with a GCN controller. :D

I'm not about to go through 39 pages of posts, but did anyone else think Gunstar Heroes is seriously overrated? I hated the thing... Give me Contra or Metal Slug any day. Complete waste of $8. I played through 2 levels and my jaw-dropped at how this game got so much praise. I don't remember the last time I had this much buyer's remorse.

Bomberman 93 on the otherhand, worth all $6.

I was waiting for a little dissent over this title, as people gushing over it made my skepticism meter rise (full disclosure: waking up in the AM makes my skepticism meter rise). I want to try out a level before dropping $8 on this (is it a Treasure game? That might immediately explain the intense level of overhype), but my only recourse may involve a PC and some chicanery. ;)

EDIT: Yep, it's a Treasure game.

Seriously though, I enjoyed Silhouette Mirage for the PSX, another Treasure title in the same vein as Gunstar Heroes. But man, this game just...it just sucks IMO. Does anyone know if you can delete VC titles off your Wii? Every time I see it as one of my channels, I'm just reminded of my remorse.

You can delete them, but you won't get your points back.

Go to the options, and go to the channels. Click on it, and you should be able to delete it.

agreed. I'm hoping they release the original contra soon. I can't remember beating it through the second level.

I took a $10 or loss on Gunstar Super Heroes for GBA since it got similar praise (since it's basically the same as Gunstar Heroes). Played a couple levels, and that was enough for me. I found it rather chaotic and devoid of any strategy outside of button mashing.
