Monster Hunter Tri

I'm probably going to be beating the offline boss in the next couple of days, so I don't know what'll happen after that. I'll probably stop playing.

just got the game last week and it's my first stab at the monster hunter series. been just playing offline, but looking to start on some online. anyone down to play with a HR 1? will update with hunter ID info later when i get home.

yea i could use some assistance with the qurupeco hunt from some people that aren't terrible.

i want to play online with others since its more fun, but i've tried this 3 times now with sword and shield guys who have no idea what they're doing, and its making me want to just solo it (as i would have if it hadn't been for the others dudes using up all the revives. fighting the OTHER monster that gets called instead of running away and staying on the target.)

We have a list for this sort of this thing in the OP.

Not much progress has been made towards HR39 yet on my end. Sigh.

Probably pretty late to get an answer, but I am wondering how weapon management works. If i want two different Switch Axes... is that possible, as in can i upgrade one for one "path" and forge and upgrade another down another path?

Yep
Yep
Thanks! I am pretty sure I could have asked that in a more coherent fashion, but at least you got the idea. I wanna test out a couple options and see which I like best :bouncy:

HR39 and my Urgent is done. All I need now is a little bit over 3000xp and I'll be at HR40. I upgraded a couple of Rathalos Armor pieces, so I'm now at 239 DEF. It came in handy on that Urgent quest that's for sure. There's one more 4-star quest I want to do (So it can say Done).

I hopped into offline for a second and it basically said 'lol, fake out, more quests are required to face the final boss'. It was pretty discouraging to be honest. Now I know I have to
Hunt an Uragaan and a Lagiacrus (AGAIN!)
before I can face the final boss. I've spent over 110 hours in this game already, and I want that portion to be done already.

yea I updated my info on it.

Been working on more offline stuff, since there seems to be a great lack of people ranked HR 20-30. I guess once you hit 31, you move onto advanced servers.

Anyway, been looking into diversifying weapon types, and making a collection of weapons with difference elements. Currently have a Water GS, a Fire SnS, a Fire LS, and a Paralyze LS.

Also looking into Bowguns, for those few times when it is like 4 LS/GS users in a room.

Great Baggi was surprisingly easy, almost seemed easier than the Jaggi, though I'm sure my paralysis weapon helped out a bit there.

Think I'll take this week to finish up my 4* offline quests and then attempt to repel Lagi. Water. :(

This is now my 4th-most played Wii game behind FFIV: The After Years, Rune Factory Frontier and Fire Emblem - though it's a long way (28 hours) to #3.

Ugh, I don't know what to do. That's twice now I've run out of time fighting Rathalos offline. Both times I had him limping; and this last one he actually flew away to sleep.
I'm really good at dodging his attacks now. He just spends so much time in the air and out of my reach.

Do you guys have any tips? Should I add bombs? I'm using my Great Sword for reach and I take my might seeds, traps and trap ingredients with me, but there's only a 65 percent chance of them combining successfully. What else can I use to do more damage? Should I use a different weapon?

When he limps just trap him and tranq him, you'll still complete the hunt even if you capture.

When you use great sword you should charge attack almost all the time, you probably won't get off charge lv3 on him too much though but lv1 or lv2 charge will do, mainly just run in a circle into him charge swing down, roll to the side sheath and run, then repeat. If you have critical draw that'll boost your damage immensly. I think my run with Rathalos is about 15-20min now, all depends on how much he keeps flying. You can also vertical swing below his shadow if he's kinda close to ground, I would run in and vertical swing on him, and sometimes he'll take a lot of damage and just fall onto the ground for a good 5 second, which is enough for a lv3 charge to cut his tail, break wings or head. Also, if you want since he does fly alot, bring flash bombs, if you can get a good lob anywhere in front of him while he's flying he'll fall down stunned, you can get off probably 2 lv3 charge and when he gets back up he'll most likely still be stunned for another lv 3 charge, just becareful he might start doing the tail whip spin so be ready to let charge early and roll away.

Oh you can block with your sword when he roars too, this is pretty useful because usually after the roar he'll firebomb in front of him.
If he charges you can also run behind him, to the right I think? and start a charge, he'll turn around and let go at lv2 or 3 charge and it'll slam on his face, this takes practice though...

Wow, thank you Myv. I've hit him out of the air before but wasn't sure when the best time to do it was. Flash bombs are a great idea too. I'll definitely pour over your advice and kill him later tonight. I'm so close, it shouldn't take too much more.

What do you think about changing to the Switch Axe? Right now my Great Sword is the Carapace Sword with 672 attack. I can buy and upgrade a switch axe to the Tough Break with 756 attack. That's a big difference in attack, but I've never used a Switch Axe before

Np glad to help :), he's a bit tricky at first, when he does those chain fireballs its usually 3 then he'll come down, if you go behind him beside his shadow and start a charge you'll get him as he comes down, just make sure don't stand in front of him cuz he sometimes tricks you and does another fireball and flies backwards :p

I can tell you lots about GS but not too much about SA haha, I'm HR45 and all I've used are GS (High Sieglinde P, which is 3rd or 4th best to Devil Joe's and Alatreon), LS (Guang Dao) for raping Ceadeus real fast, and occasional Tusk Lance for Diablos because he's one crazy mofo that doesn't give me too much opening with GS after I run out of sonic bombs:cry:.

getting ready to play now, finishing up the one star online missions

capturing the quropeco and the annoying no guts no glory hunt the jumping sand fish one

about the switch axe, heres the weapon class modifiers:
Weapon class multipliers are as follows:

Bowgun: 1.2

SnS: 1.4

Lance: 2.3

Longsword: 3.3

Greatsword: 4.8

Hammer: 5.2

Switch Axe: 5.4

theres a lot of stuff to take into consideration when determining your damage (like the type of hit you use for example) but in the equation, each weapon's damage gets divided by its class multiplier.

your sword at some point in the equation is doing 140 damage. (raw damage/4.8)
that axe would do 140 damage at the same point in the equation. (raw damage/5.4)

there is so much more going on with damage, but a quick glance says they're at least kinda close, so no point in going switch axe unless you want to try it out.

ok heres the basic equation:
[ATP x TYPE x SHARP x HITZONE] / [CLASS] = Raw Damage
ATP is the listed attack power, type is the % of damage your attack does (for example the unsheathe attack on a greatsword does 48%, sharp is the sharpness (you get a bonus multiplier if your weapon is a certain level of sharp), and hitzone is where you hit the monster (certain parts take more or less damage). Class is the weapon class divider.

That gets you the raw damage. However, then you must take into account monster defense. So, though your atp may be something like 1000, most attacks do 16-48% ish a hit and after all that junk you're really only doing like 40 damage.

I love having the Capture Guru skill. It makes quests so much easier if you paintball monsters since you can see where they're weak. I also hit HR40, so I can now do 5-star online quests. Too bad there aren't a lot of people that have reached such a plateau.

With the Switch Axe, you really have to know to combo it. Given the absurd control layout, it can be a bit tough sometimes. Using the Sword part of it isn't really worth it in my opinion since it takes so much time to switch between the two. Also, the sword is much more powerful than the axe part of it, but you move at a much slower speed.

This might interest you, read it the other day. :bouncy:

I enjoy the SA. I don't find the controls that bad or the switch portion such a bother, not that I am an expert or anything. I figure using it as much as I have, pretty much exlusively, I'll only get better as time goes by.

Well, I know HOW to quickly switch from Sword to Axe and back, but my timing's pretty terrible, so I usually just stick to the Axe. I didn't know about the sword never bouncing though. But usually the only time my axe attacks bounce are on the head of Barroth, the tail of Uragaan (If I can hit it), and Araknator when's he cooled down. Anything else hits clean as day.

I find hammers to be pretty nice and convenient, but that's just me.

Haven't played this game in over a week now, but I should hop on to give it another go or something... Not that I don't like the game or anything, just have been extremely busy as of late. Lol

I use the Paralykeet hammer because it has a high chance of paralyzing, but hammers can't cut tails so that's kind of annoying.

Thank you again for the tips Myv. I was able to beat Rathalos with 15 minutes to spare!
Not sure if it was something I ate or the game feeling sorry for me, but both of my extra traps combined successfully and he fell out of the air twice from flying into a charging Rhenoplos.
But mostly it was the flashbombs that knocked him to the ground enough times for me to get in my attacks. Catching him saved a lot of time as well :D

crystalklear64, thanks for the info. I kinda get what you're saying

So I just beat the final offline boss. I didn't really care for it. It was rather annoying to have Cha-Cha be your saving grace oxygen wise in that one. Here's an idea: Give me the mask, lower my DEF a bit so I can leave the crutch behind. Especially because he ends up dying every 30 seconds or so, leaving me with no partner for about 3 minutes. Oh, and the time limit being 35 minutes was a kick in the balls.

I wish you could do that boss online, though. It seems like it would fit that mode better.

did the sharq attack quest a few times

got 2 tickets the first time, 1 the second, and i've gotten 0 every other time. does it have a reset or something before you can get more tickets?

made it to the 3 star online quests last evening and got my gobul lance, thing is awesome.

I've been on 2 star for probably 2 weeks since I haven't been playing online as much as I would like to. Looks like a lot of people are passing me up now. Someone want to get online this afternoon or later tonight and help me get to rank 18 and my urgent? Daisy? Haven't played with Twanky, Myv or CK yet (CK post your name).

I'm just starting out online. Still on 1 star, but i'll be down to join you to play tonight. My hunter ID info is on the main google doc in OP.
Sure, I can play today. Just let me know when you're online. I need two more Lagiacrus horns so that would work out well.
So do I, I think we all do.

When I get home later I'll post to see if anyone is around.
alright, i'm on now. i guess you can only add people as friends if they're online?
I'm online if you want to warp to me. I tried to join you but the town was full. Now it says you're offline?

I'll repeat this again: If you have a gunner, the Sharq Attack quest is broken.
You can attack them before they reach you.

I'll be willing to help you guys out, I gotta help a friend as well I believe he's in the HR9~ zone. I've been farming 5* volcano online solo, I'm at 1 million z now just from selling charms and ancient/rust shards that gets appraised into worthless stuff, make so much money every run about 20-50k if you get ancient shards. Need a +7crit draw /w 2 slots charm :(

I'm playing this game seemingly most evenings and some afternoons (dependent on my son's nap schedule -- and what TV happens to be on my DVR from the night before). I'm at HR 25 or so online, and partway thru 4 star offline quests (I think).

I wouldn't mind helping some lower-leveled onlines either. My issue is that it seems to go down so often online; and after I've helped them (and twice, even leveled up to HR 19 so they can help me), they suddenly HAVE TO GO- BYE!

I'd love to help get more CAGs up there so that a) they can help me later on as well, and b) so if they ditch, I can complain about it here.

You can do that with a lance pretty easily as well. Camp the spawn and shank multiple sharks at a time.

Had a great time doing that last night with 3 other lancers doing our best "hold the line!" impressions and killing the ludroth as well

And oh god we also did a x4 long sword spirit spam fest. Never seen a baggi die so fast and with most of us on our asses half the time made it even funnier.

aight how does this friend thing work, i searched for both daisy and twanky's ids and character names and it says player not found. is there a different place to add friends?

i know someone said people have to be online, so i made sure to add them and not just random people from the list.

I got booted for inactivity. Now I can't join you guys cause the room is full

crystalklear64, I'll search and try to join you.
