Haha, that's why I included the warning message and didn't have the strobes to pop up unexpectedly. I didn't want another incident to happen like the one in Japan with the Pokemon TV show. I'm sure this video will get under 1k views though.

Yeah, memorizing fatalities is 0 fun for me. If they were simple like special moves, then I'd use 'em. I always expected this game to be rated T, so cutting down on the violence is no surprise to me.

For me, it isn't that the violence has been cut down necessarily. It is that a developer showed a few months ago some video of Joke shooting someone in the head and defiantly claimed "So there you have it, this will NOT be Mortal Kombat lite!"

He looks like an idiot now.

Agreed.

I'm having difficulty pulling the axe on my pre-order. I got the LE for $59.95 when Amazon had the price mistake...decisions, decisions...

I got the LE from Amazon too, but I don't want spend $60 and get Mortal Kombat lite. I'm just going to wait for SFII Turbo HD Remix and SFIV.

I never intended to buy this, I'm only interested in the DC half anyway. I'll just try it out through Gamefly. Maybe if I'm lucky they will include a DC only mode or something

You're not supposed to stare into the strobe light. You are supposed to make the video full screen and dance around the room while your CPU monitor acts like a strobe light.

Wow. Talk about a double water down. You have two major strengths here, the DC license and the classic Mortal Kombat brutality.

Sorry if anyone disagrees, the the violence was what "made" Mortal Kombat. It definitely put it on the map. It sure wasn't the strength of the fighting system back in MK1. Street Fighter 2 was still sucking all the quarters there. I personally still don't like the combat system due to the stiffness of it and pretty much feeling like it was a competition of stringing together special moves endlessly. So now you've taken away the fatalities and wasted all the work the developers put into them for a license.

The other half is what this does to the DC characters. I wasn't a big fan of the game concept but Sonya Blade killing Superman didn't hold much for me. So DC comics goes to protect their characters by not letting Superman kill, but he could be killed? I could see this failing to sell based on it just not being a good match for the characters. It felt forced.

Kudos to the developers for the character models and what I've seen of their powers. It looks like they did the best they could but I'm guessing this is another title that we see go quickly on sale.
Game still looks awesome though.
http://www.giantbomb.com/ed-boon-on-mortal-kombat-vs/17-85/

Shows what seems to be the other Joker fatality and new gameplay.

There's also other videos. One showcasing the Green Lantern, Raiden and The Flash Brutalities/Fatalities and another with "super and pro moves".
I really really like Raiden's Fatal. I also really like Lantern's Brutality. Arent they suppose to have 2 fatals and brutalities a piece?

Agreed. The arguement in the whole MK vs SF thing back in the day was that SF was a cartoon and MK was "so real". Kids loved the blood and you can also thank MK for all the grief violent video games got in the media back then.

I said it when this game was first announced, but they really should have released a stand alone DC fighter first. Follow the Capcom model. They're trying to capture both DC/MK audiences with this, but it seems more like they're alienating them with some awkward mash up. It may have been more rewarding to have a DC fighter where people say "oh cool its like MK except with DC characters". That way we get a feel for it and it establishes the characters in this engine. Then it would be less of a stretch to combine the two.

Its sort of weird that this game has a really small roster. The DC side is basically just the JLA, a couple Batman/Superman villains, and then Captain Marvel. I would have opened the floodgates if I had access to the license. And also, Superman looks weak as fuck. I liked how in the trailer when he gets knocked back by Scorpion he says "magic?" but they should have made him beastly. Capcom represented beastly guys like Hulk/Juggernaut/Colossus great in their fighters. I would have liked to have seen Superman represented in a similar fashion. It looks pretty shitty for him to be knocked back from a weak strike.

Also watching that video where they show the specials moves is pretty funny. "Hey look we gave everyone a teleport move"

Oddly yes...comes out November 16th but it says that my estimated ship date is Dec. 3rd.

Something seems really off with everyone if they think it's a good idea to have Joker as part of the team (or any team in general). I Was hoping the storyline would write him off basically as a wild card that just shows up to hassle both sides, but looks like they went for the less logical route (as one of the heroes basically).

If you watch towards the end of that video they remark about forming teams. It's not good vs. evil but the Earth of DC versus the Earth of Mortal Kombat. Which to me only cements what I was saying earlier about this watering down the DC side. Comics are VERY story/continuity-centric especially in DC. Hell, that entire storyline pretty much brought flashbacks of "CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS" didn't it? Merging worlds and all that. Yuck. Not the best story to associate with since it was just an excuse to streamline their complicated stories.

They should've gone the easy way and not just say this is a semi-Elseworlds continuity, but a FULL ON Elseworlds continuity.

crap.. as i suspected. I bet they are doin it to cover up their earlier price goofup hoping that we will cancel.

So is anyone picking this up on Sunday? I think we should get everyones GT together who is picking this up soon. Didnt know if we just do it here or start a new thread.

A TON of people are still oblivious to the fatalities being censored now. Like alot of people seem sold on just that Joker fatality and not really looking passed that. Though the whole DC vs. Mortal Kombat novelty is also too much for someone to pass up on, so I doubt it'll be a flop.

DAMN YOU 360 with your region-locked games!
This game is still mighty tempting. Throw in the fact that I can get it for $10 and Its really hard to pass up. Thankfully, I have so many other damn games to play that I won't need this for a while.

Looking at the history of Midway titles...they all seem to be region free...only problem now is where can we score a copy of the European version as close to the retail price of the US version?

How is Midway with past price drops? I'm thinking if this doesn't sell well, we might see a big drop right after Christmas. I know Midway is counting on this game to do well for them financially.

First review comes to us via OXM and they gave the game an 8.5. They basically liked everything about it, but said it needed more content.

Poor MK just cant seem to get a decent game now a days. I cant believe they cancelled MK 8 just to use the DC license knowing it would compromise what made the MK games what they were. Weak fatalities and stiff god awful animations will be what keeps this game from being decent. At least the last couple had decent fatalities despite the terrible multiple fighting styles and robotic animation.

fyi i had to email amazon for them to correct the ship date on my mk l.e

let me know if you guys manage to find the uk version. Will everything work if its region free? Will they be able to play with live us players?

After finding out that the UK version is uncensored, I'm very much interested in this information. That's just infuriating.

Even if the UK release is region free, won't the game still be in Pal rather than NTSC so you may have some other picture issues or does the US Xbox have the ability to convert Pal to NTSC?

This is what I'd like to know.

It will be PAL but that doesn't seem to cause an issue, I have a US 360 and a UK one and play PAL/NTSC games on both with no problem, on both HD and SD TV's

I might pick up the UK version when I'm in the UK over Christmas, with the exchange rate the way it is it won't be that expensive. Might even get lucky and be able to pick up a pre-owned copy.
