From now until further notice all preplayed PS2,XBOX and GC titles are 3.99. From the Movie Gallery store I work at I picked up 2 copies of Mercenaries 2 and Guitar Hero 3.

Also if your Movie Gallery has a Game Zone all preplayed Wii, 360 and PS3 games are 25% off. Most of the next gen games that are preplayed in the Game Zone sections come as trade-ins so you can generally find good copies its just that the selection wont be as good as a Gamestop.

Edit by Io - For those with Hollywood Videos around note that this sale applies only to stores that DO NOT have Gamecrazy's attached. Also, it is still highly YMMV at any given store. Some don't participate (manager's discretion) and some are just clueless and think you are talking about the concurrent $3.99 movie deal (which requires 2 rentals and only applies to movies $12.99 and under). I've gone to about 6 stores and have gotten about 4 different versions of the deal. There is a code they can scan that makes all these games come out to $3.99 no matter whether you rent or not and no matter what the original prices are - it is just YMMV whether they can A) Find that code and B) Choose to apply it to the games you want to buy ;).

Oh, nice, Chac. Thanks for the info. I called and just got a quote for 30 dollars. I wish Cellfire allowed for more than 3 games to be purchased... but this is very good info. It's a shame I already put so much cash into this deal... we should have definitely been more proactive into finding a good flip. There had to be one, and this looks like it's it.
ok
thanks will give it a shot today
I look forward to your report. :)

Even better. Hope it holds, because I don't think I can do any flipping today. The other day I was lamenting that I wish I had had more time to prepare for this deal, so I could have figured out some GS to HWV flips and avoided having to use cash to buy the HWV games.

Yeah I was trying to find a way to only use credit instead of cash and that's how I discovered it. So the cellfire thing, I'm kinda confused. Can you only use it on 3 games? Or can you use it on 3 games, 3 different times?

I say this because I used it once on 3 copies of GoW but when I went to another GS to try that again they wouldn't even let me get one! And I wasted a view! I thought that the number of views was the number of times you can use that coupon. Am I mistaken?

The coupon states up to 3 games. I believe the cellfire app also limits it to 3 views of the coupon, but I'm not sure, since I haven't installed the app ;).

It's three games per transaction and the coupon is limited to three views. Meaningless, since CAGs post screenshots we can load onto our phones. I'll probably just grab three Gears of Wars... although I may grab some more since I could use the credit to buy Gamecube games from HW for the donation run I'm making to the children's hospital. Even my charity could have been paid with flips. :bomb:

OK, this is a great find, I never even thought about trading to Hollywood Video, so kudos to CHAC.

Does anyone have any experience with TIV's from Hollywood Video? I am finding a strange pattern in that I called on 3 games, and the TIV that HWV gave me was the used sale prices @ GS.

For example:
X360, Gears of War, 29.99 used @ GS, 29.99 TIV @ HWV
PS3, Condemned 2, 17.99 used @ GS, 17.99 TIV @ HWV
PS3, Tony Hawk's Proving Ground, 19.99 used @ GS, 19.99 TIV @ HWV
X360, Transformers, 19.99 used @ GS, 19.99 TIV @ HWV

If true, this seems too good to be true. I'm going to call a couple of others and see if the first guy was just high on crack.
i have a few stores around me that are movie galleries that havent converted a damn thing. they have 10 copies of batman and mercenaries that i have been eyeing since the day i read this thread. i call everyday and sure enough the games are still rentable. anyone experience this with mg?
You must be going to the same stores as me lol I went out the first Tuesday since this deal started, 4 Movie Galleries and non of them had any of the newer PS2 stuff for sale (but did have multiples to rent) & each store had one section dedicated to previous rental games for sale. I was seriously tempted to go back later to at least the one store where the guy mentioned putting more games out for sale that weekend but decided against it since I figured that it would probably only be a handful of games judging by the small selection of games at all 4 stores for sale. They did have Aquaman for the xbox for sale at every store I went to which I've mentioned before in this thread :D

It seems as if some stores are loaded (or were) and some smaller store (or stores in smaller areas) don't convert much to sell and probably even end up sending most of the old rentals elsewhere if they only have so much space dedicated to selling old rental games.

i wish there were 4 around me within relatively close driving distance. i mean there are some about 45-2 hours away and the websites for these 3 stores is horrible. i put in my zipcode and a certain amount show up. i put in a zipcode next to me and they show more even though the ones they show are closer to me. its really bizarre.

For HWV, I ended up using both the store locator and a google maps search, which got more results than the store locator. Just be sure to call first, as a couple of the HWVs that google maps turned up didn't actually exist.
is this sale still good & worth going to see...........
YMMV. Trade-in Values on pretty much all of the high trades has dropped, but there are still a number of titles that trade well. The stores near you may be picked clean, or they may be virgin territory, only way to know is to try.

havent been in yet, just been calling around to different ones in different areas to see about sat...
?
has anyone else checked with their local stores?
CHAC, does trading in require a membership and a trade account like blockbuster?
Yes, you need to have a membership to trade.
And with that $400 in credit, I used around $200 to buy 8 copies of Gears Of War(26.99 each or with cellfire like 21.xx) and sold those back to Hollywoood for $30 each. That's right, $30 for the original GoW! With that $240 Hollywood Gift Card...
Wait, were you able to get trade-in credit put on a gift card at a regular (non-Gamecrazy) store? They told me they couldn't do that at my local store. Now, I can dump 1 copy of GoW at my Gamecrazy no problem - but if I could also trade at my local HWV that would be nice.

I find it very hard to believe they are giving $30 for GoW though. Their regular trade-in prices are usually pretty crappy - like GS but without the promos. It has only been via price matching Blockbuster trade-ins that I had been able to build up some credit (before this sale, luckily). However, my HWV/GC credit is now down to dangerously low levels and I'd like to buy a DS from there (assuming they still hand out the 12 free rental sheets). I'll have to look into this GoW thing - maybe I'll give my GC a call and see what they say. They will surely think there is something wrong with that if it actually comes up $30 though. And of course, with MVP it will be $33...
I look forward to your report. :)
I just got back from HWV, and I can confirm that the TIV for GOW is indeed $30.
Thanks CHAC for the info.

argh. I'm up to 6 stores now, in 4 different cities, all said no. The last one, I talked to the manager, she specifically said "no, it's not ending Saturday"

There seems to be a lot of misinformation/YMMViness about this sale being spread by the managers and clerks-- even with promotions at Hollywood Video period. I suggest we all live our lives normally and let the sale die in its sleep.

What games are left? Going tonight to both of my stores to clean out any $5 games I left behind. Then buy a Wii with that and sell for cash for my Christmas presents. You guys forget about Black Friday week. I saw their binder of deals and the $3.99 sale starts on the 24th. Check those stores on Monday and maybe we'll get more lucky. This deal isn't dead yet!

I just talked with corporate. The current sale ends on 11/20

however, a new one starts on 11/21:) there will be a new download sent out on the 21st with MORE titles to pull for 3.99

The new movie sale will be 3.99, but the rental requirement is being dropped as well

Gears of War TIV at HWV-30
Gears of War CE TIV-30

the ce is not in the system, I traded one of each and just had him scan the regular version twice.

Interesting info. Thanks. I might hit up their movies now that they're not requiring rentals.

Thanks for the update Capa. One of the stores I go to has a TON of HD-DVDs is there a deal on them? I have the 360 add on (12 bucks i believe from kmart) so if they are super cheap im all over it (they are new and used, used marked 10.99 each).

They may qualify for the 3.99 movie deal. I think that's on any DVD 12.99 or under, but then again, they are HD-DVDs, so who knows.

Also, a question. Do Hollywood Video giftcards work at Game Crazy?

I'd feel better about all of it if a couple more would call and confirm too.

The way he was talking, they were lifting all restrictions on the used DVD sale...but I didn't press for details.

Capa, do you mean that they will pull more game rentals to sell for 3.99? hopefully this means they will be pullign the GC games finaly, the manager at the local store said that he was told that they will stop renting GC games soon, hopefully I can get there to get all the rare stuff they have!!

I don't know. He said a new download would be sent out to pull more games. Go to the HWV website and get the cust svc number and call it and talk to them, and see if someone else confirms what i was told. He said he had just gotten an email about it

Hey guys,

Regarding the new movie deal...check out the post I just made. I got it through a MG manager that this new movie sale would be starting tomorrow, but I can confirm that at my local MG it IS ALREADY ACTIVE! All DVD's $12.99 or less, now $3.99, no rental or quantity restrictions. I don't know if there is any flipping potential with many movies, but you could at least get some super cheap x-mas gifts for people you don't care about that much! ;)

Awesome - maybe that means the holdout store around me will finally sell the games the way they are supposed to!

Yeah, you should be good...they won't have the argument of the movie deal to fall back on.

Yes, they do. Ditto for the other way around as well.
So, I see a ton of stuff on this new movie sale, but what about the game one?
We both already cleaned out the HV in Wellington ;)

Just a reminder; if anybody managed to get Mario party 4 or 6 pm me if your interested in trading it to me :D

supposedly a new download is going out to pull games and convert them. also, my sister asked her MG back in indiana, they told her a shipment is coming in tomorrow for the sale
We both already cleaned out the HV in Wellington ;)
Which is why tomorrow I am going to the one in Hollywood, FL. Though if the sale was still going on during Saturday, I will most likely pick the Xbox section at Wellington dry.

Has it been confirmed to be ending Saturday though, right? Or no confirmation?

Some say they're going to be promoting a different kind of sale. idk.

Quick questions. Will a Movie Gallery membership work at a Hollywood Video? And do you need a membership to take part in the deal?
supposedly a new download is going out to pull games and convert them. also, my sister asked her MG back in indiana, they told her a shipment is coming in tomorrow for the sale
Which MG would this happen to be? I'm thinking about driving around to surrounding areas and hunting a bit tomorrow.

I asked my MG(In Indiana, lol) if they knew of any shipments comming in, they said that they don't know untill it arrives(It wasnt a manager so it may be different) but the manager at another MG told me that she should be getting a bulk box in from a warehouse soon. lets hope for some great buys.

P.S. I am thinking about doing the GS thing so i'll grab a GTA:SA tomorrow, how long is the 10/30/40 going on? and what exactly is the cellfire deal? thanks.

If you're wondering about Indiana MG's.

there is 1 HWV that dosent have a Game Crazy, but I'm guessing they probably got wiped clean, They did have a HUGE selection of games last time i was there though.

I checked Bluffton, Decatur, and Hartford City this week, they are all wiped clean, Hartford city told me that Employees had wiped it clean, Decatur had no idea there was a sale, but all they had was a Lego Batman, and Bluffton has sold about 400 games but i managed to get about 15 good titles. I think the Huntington GameZone was wiped clean but I'm not sure.

Damn, sucks about the Huntington one, because that was one I was going to hit up.

The one I've been at is the North Manchester one, which still had a few good PS2 and Gamecube games when I left, but not much in the way of valuable stuff.

There's a thread about it. Cell phone coupons for 20% off any used games (three at a time) and 30% bonus for trades of two or more games. Edge stacks with both coupons.

Dr. Kirby,

Did you go to the HV in Jupiter? I was curious if I should make the trip up there or not? I've hit the HV in Hollywood, I believe three times with diminishing results each time. However, I have not been up there in a few days so perhaps they have converted some rentals.
