From now until further notice all preplayed PS2,XBOX and GC titles are 3.99. From the Movie Gallery store I work at I picked up 2 copies of Mercenaries 2 and Guitar Hero 3.

Also if your Movie Gallery has a Game Zone all preplayed Wii, 360 and PS3 games are 25% off. Most of the next gen games that are preplayed in the Game Zone sections come as trade-ins so you can generally find good copies its just that the selection wont be as good as a Gamestop.

Edit by Io - For those with Hollywood Videos around note that this sale applies only to stores that DO NOT have Gamecrazy's attached. Also, it is still highly YMMV at any given store. Some don't participate (manager's discretion) and some are just clueless and think you are talking about the concurrent $3.99 movie deal (which requires 2 rentals and only applies to movies $12.99 and under). I've gone to about 6 stores and have gotten about 4 different versions of the deal. There is a code they can scan that makes all these games come out to $3.99 no matter whether you rent or not and no matter what the original prices are - it is just YMMV whether they can A) Find that code and B) Choose to apply it to the games you want to buy ;).

Anyway, that was a great experiment, but how do u know you got the actual disk? Maybe they kept the case there and sent your game in a generic case. idk. Quite suspicious. Almost as great when gamestop store their used systems in their bathroom.
This is true, but I had them pull out a copy for me to check and I'd marked the disc with permanent black marker in the one spot on the DISC as well. :D I'm tricky like that. When you looked at the disc normally, you couldn't see the mark, but at a certain angle the spot marked with marker showed up really nice.;)

Haha owned. They don't even remember you traded it in?

One thing I don't get is why does everybody want to flip their games at Gamestop? Why not ebay, half, amazon, here, etc. I mean, i just sold my lego batman for 23 bucks shipped. Not bad if you ask me. I just want my money on the games I spent on :)

Since I have almost $400 in credit for Gamestop from JUST this promo, which was made on about $140-150 in $4 games, I could buy a 360 brand new from GS and if you think about it this way I'm only paying the $140-150 that I paid for those $4 games for it.

Gamestop credit HAS it's uses, though I rarely find ANYTHING of value at their stores to make it worth my while to keep the credit there for any length of time.

Although, if I want to, I could probably 'cash out' by buying a Wii system from them and selling it on CL for $300 or so. :D I could also sell it to a friend of mine's sister and brother in law for their four kids to play, since the kids have been bugging them for one for a while now, but I don't think they could find one.

Believe me, I've been doing this flipping routine for a LONG time, so I've followed the in's and out's of it pretty well. I'll find a way to get some real cash out of this situation.

Where did you sell you lego batman? Also, I traded in a few games to gamestop that gamestop would give me more then amazon would, to try and build up some credit to fool around with the whole blockbuster flipping thing. My new gamestop doesn't seem to bad about refeb fees also, they only taged one game that I thought they were in the right, the disk only Mario Kart.

Oh, and you don't have to test out the games before selling them to gamestop ;)
I went wandering today and found an absolute gold mine. About 10 Lego Batmans, Mercs 2, several dot.hacks, GHIII, Mario Parties galore, just a ton of stuff. Then I quickly realized why it was still a gold mine after all these weeks. That store wasn't including anything over $14.99 in the sale (similar to what IO and others were reporting at some stores when this sale was starting). Oh well, I take confort in knowing that if they did include the better games in the deal, there was no way I would've stumbled on to them now.
I heard the same story at my store- and i asked the guy if he would consult his promotion guide to check. He said that there were several deals going on right now, and he wasn't aware of the 3.99 one at all. After a few minutes, he found the barcode and added it to their list of promos at the register.

I called the 1800 customer service line last week. They called the store and told the store to honor the promo when I came in (not just for the 12.99 and under games). It was the store manager who originally told me no on the promo so I had to go above him.

True, I'm a noob when it comes to flipping. Although, when i did go to the sale at HV I had opportunities to grab as much games as I could but i forgot because I was too busy grabbing the games i wanted to play

eBay, I didn't feel like spending more money on video games. trust me. the 3.99 deal was good enough for me. I decided to grab because I was here and why not get it? im low on cash, so i ended up buying 3 after somebody didnt pick it up i guess. But at the end, I was able to sell 3 lego batmans for 20, 16, 16, pretty decent imo. plus i get free shipping supplies.

Which gamestop are u referring to? you know, one of the employees at the gamestop on southern blvd seemed like a jackass. He purposely didn't apply the 25 percent off coupon for one of my games. But then again, my math could be inaccurate.

I'll ask again real quick, while none of you may no, anyone have an idea when they are going to get that huge shipment of games? I want to make sure I have a good amount of funds ready when something like that comes.

Just called the HV at Wellington. I didn't get a straight answer. You could try calling them and and attempt toask them

Btw I have this trade in plan I might do.
I been considering to get fire emblem for gamecube, its 30 dollars used.
So im thinking i could trade it in (TIV is 13.75?) and that cellfire could boost it up to like 18-20 and the edge card as well. Then i use the 20 percent off used games with my edge card.

Is that a good idea or no?

The new one on Jog and Lantana. And since its new, they have there normal new store sale of buy 2, get 1 free (Don't know why new stores do it, they just do)

And what kind of answer did they give you?

I stopped at mine 2 weeks ago, and they only had about 4 games, this week they seemed to have over a hundred.. Granted, i might have overlooked them last time since i don't frequent HV, but i'm inclined to think they were the new games.

$9.75 base TIV at GS as of 11/7, could have gone up or down since, but probably not by much.

I could just trade you the copy of FE I got for Zelda if you don't mind a disk only game

Went to the HV near my house today. First time ever stepping foot in the place, and wow, they had a ton of used ps2/gc/xbox games. I snagged Baldurs Gate: Dark Alliance II and Kingdom udner fire: burning crusades for xbox, Digimon World 4, Mobile Suit Gundam: Journey to Jaburo, and Gladius for PS2, and Super Mario Sunshine and Paper Mario for GC for 3.99 each. I was ecstatic, thinking how fortunate I was to find all these games...that was until I got home and got to look at them. Three of them are unplayable, and the rest are in decent to one-step-above-becoming-a-coaster shape. I think I only got 2 manuals out of all those games too.

but hey, for 3.99 each can't really complain, although I will be taking back the 3 nonworking discs tomorrow.
Really?

No, FE is one of the titles that went to Amazon, and hasn't sold yet. Very few of my things goto Gamestop, they rarely pay the most even after promotions. Great for buying used though.

And since we are so close, it should only take a day to ship.

Considering it costs about $30(last I checked) for a copy of the original Mercenaries for PS2 from GS, I should've kept the copy I picked up last week from a local HWV.

But seeing as it got $9 before bonus @ Gamestop, I couldn't say no to trading it. Same deal with San Andreas for Xbox. I found a pristine/mint GH copy, which came complete with map, original booklet and original full coverart.

But again, since it traded in for $11.75 before promos, I couldn't say no.

I still want a copy of Star Wars: Force Unleashed for PS2 to play, but I haven't found one AT ALL. So I'll just wait till it clearances at Kmart or wherever and grab one there for $5-10.

I think I may have see a copy of Stars wars at my HV if my memory serves me right. ;)
There was no mint/complete games at my hv, unless drkirby cleaned it out already :p.

Sigh this HV sale reminds me of pawn shops, only better
Personally I still prefer pawn shops because the games are uber cheap and usually complete. The only huge letdown is the variety of games. Looks like ill be hunting for video games at pawn shops once this sale is cleaned out
Could you elaborate?
Well in fact, I just searched for any fire emblem in so florida and oddly, i didn't see any.

and im asking you how much u want to sell me the game for, of course :bouncy:

I was willing to just trade it for zelda, but if you just want to buy it outright I was planing on doing it for $20.

Oh oops i mis read it. heh.
But yea ill trade your fire emblem for my zelda twilight princess gamecube. Pm me if your really interested so we don't interfere this thread ;)
..but hey, for 3.99 each can't really complain, although I will be taking back the 3 nonworking discs tomorrow.
Don't just return them. Most HWV have a dvd/game buffing or polishing service that does wonders and since you bought the used games from them and since they are guaranteed to work, they will polish them for free !

I would at least give that a shot and then if that fails, take them and get your money back. :D
I have never seen that machine. Fascinating that Gamestop has managed to replace the human eye for the process of checking for damaged discs.
"Human decisions are removed from strategic trade ins. TIVnet begins to issue refurb fees at a geometric rate."

Before this sale, I've never stepped foot into a Hollywood Video. This sale has convinced me never to rent games from them, because 90% of the games I've bought are heavily scratched. I've bought plenty of used games at Blockbuster and even the older games are never this bad. I realize I'm anal, but I honestly can't figure out how people can scratch discs up that bad.
I realize I'm anal, but I honestly can't figure out how people can scratch discs up that bad.
When some people rent games, they think 'it's not my shit, so why should I care if it gets messed up'. So, they may treat it as a cat/dog/gerbil/etc/etc toy, use it as a frisbee or a coaster or in some case I SWEAR they have to use it as an unusual substitute for toilet paper.

This is just going by the condition(appearance included) of some of the shit that Gamestop has sold me over the years.

Mind you, the copy of San Andreas that I bought for PS2 from Hollywood looked like someone sneezed or barfed on the disc and manual. I scrubbed them both with rubbing alcohol, since I was out of Clorox at the time.

I'm shocked to see there's no activity in this thread yet. Does that mean the sale is done? I hope not, since I'm going to a further away HWV today and I seriously want to grab some stuff there.
still going strong (picked up Spider-Man Web of Shadows yesterday), but you can only pick clean a store so much.
I haven't seen any Web of Shadows (PS2) at the stores I've been to, even at the ones with good selections. I thought they hadn't been converted yet. Or was it traded in?

I believe this one was converted just recently, as I've been to the store before. It was the only one worth picking up (I can't justify a $6.75 TIV to gamestop while spending $4.00 on the game).

I may check back at some of the good stores, but I don't know if I'll have time. When the sale started, I would have been happy with $6.75 base TIV, because the first few MGs and HWV I had tried had crappy selections). After finding my gold mine store, though, I really wished I could have taken the earlier purchases back (I had already traded them) so I'd have more to spend on the stuff that trades higher. I also wish I had decided to expand my search radius before Mercenaries 2 took a huge dive - I've found a dozen or more since then.

Just curious, what search radius did you guys look? I had a radius of about 15 miles, but in that 15 miles I was able to hit about 5-6 stores with all but 3 being duds. I'm sure if I would have expanded to 30 miles I could have found a lot more, but I was hoping for a better success rate.

After 30% and before the bonus .67 that the Edge card gives, the game gets bumped to $8.75 or so in TIV. That's not enough?

I know I was hoping for a ton of good flips from this sale, but I almost started too late on this deal myself. Yet, I still found 1-2 games that were decent enough.

Hell, even Mercs 2 was a good enough flip @ $8 each to justify trading in multiples. Although I only found two and I kept one for my personal collection since it was mint and almost complete.

As long as I was making 2x what I paid, I was happy as could be.

I think the farthest HWV I went to is about 26 miles from my house, but we were having dinner in that area anyway, so not that much of a trek. I've tried 2 MGs, both were pretty much duds, except for a couple Lego Batman, an MKDD, and I think a Zelda TP (although I bought a lot more from them that was worth less than those). I've tried 4 HWV, not including one with a Game Crazy, and the first one was pretty much a dud (save for Kung Fu Panda), so, between the failures at MG and that HWV, I figured this sale was a bust for me. Then, I decided to give it one more go at an HWV that I hadn't known about before, and I hit the jackpot -- maybe not as good as some, and I didn't try to get next gen stuff, but I did get MvC2 (PS2), Force Unleashed, and several other high-trade games.
Just curious, what search radius did you guys look?
I guess you couldn't call mine a radius, since I've gone different distances in each direction; but you could say at least a 50 mile radius for me. I've been around 50 miles to the east, around 50 to the west/northwest, and I've hit about half the stores within approx. 150 mi. of my home due north . All said, I've hit well over 30 stores, and there's still at least 10 more that are about an hour away, and another 5-10 another hour further north.

Went to a HV about 6 miles from my girlfriends house. I coulda bought a lot more, but wanted to check with my local GS to make sure they would take what i had first. But today came out with DMC2, Guitar Hero 2, GTAVC, Hitman 2, and Kingdom Hearts for ps2 and D&D Heroes for Xbox. My local GS said they would buy em with the stickers and no manuals so that works, see how much i come out with for my $25 purchase today...

I know after promo + edge you can get roughly $8.xx, but you're still paying CASH for GS credit. I only have so much play money to spend so it becomes a priority to maximize the ratio and frankly, 2:1 just doesn't cut it.

Oh, and my radius was the entire Las Vegas valley, of which I was able to hit up 7 stores (one store is dead to me now, after I alerted the employee to the promo, he grabbed every good title out there and did the GS credit thing). I've got about 1 or 2 within decent distance from my place, but the rest were pretty much a one-shot deal.

A friend of mine just found out about this deal (through me) and he's been hitting up his stores by BYU-Idaho. The lucky guy found Rogue Galaxy and Dragon Quest VIII! (He's buying for himself, not necessarily for credit).

Devil May Cry 2 - $1.50 (11/2)
Guitar Hero II - $4.75 (11/9)
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City - $1 (11/11)
Kingdom Hearts II - $3.75 (11/16)
Dungeons & Dragons Heroes - $1.50 (11/17)

I didn't see a price in the Tiered Trade thread for Hitman 2, so I left it out of the equation. If the values listed above have held, you are looking at $12.50 before bonus/edge, $17.50 after, again, not including Hitman 2, and assuming no refurb fees. You might want to consult that thread before your next purchase.

I actually saw DQ VIII at one of my stores too, but since it's not my kind of game I didn't pick it up.

While I definitely agree to an extent on using cash for flips and wanting to get the most, I've been working with some money that I got as gifts and what not. It's been like using 'free' money for me.

Although, I still do want to 'cash out' by selling a Wii or something. Mind you, I had completely forgotten that GS gave cash for trades too(minus 20%) or I'd have done the deal without the promo, which still would've been more than I spent.

Lets not forget the possible 2-4 dollar refurb fee. I'm not going to be picking anything up tonight that i don't think i can get more than 9 dollars TIV.

Well im gonna run a copy of the game ti values and keep that for future reference, thanks for the heads up and the informative posts!
Lets not forget the possible 2-4 dollar refurb fee. I'm not going to be picking anything up tonight that i don't think i can get more than 9 dollars TIV.
Aside from 2-3 games, I've been able to dodge the refurb fee nonsense. But one was scratched up enough that they nailed me with a $3 fee on it, which took the total TIV down to $7.85 total or ten cents above the base of $7.75.

Mind you, I still look at it from the perspective that I got $3.62 over what I paid, so any profit was a good thing for me.

A lot of people don't realize that you spend cash to get the credit. I've added up all my receipts from HWV and I spent about $300. I always took credit at GS because 20% less is a lot of money. Take the 30% plus edge to get way more credit. What I ended up doing to get the cash is buy a Wii and sell it for cost, minus tax. You can always eBay it for more if you wanted to.
