MS Bringing It Home: E3 2008
they kept saying rock band exclusive? what does that actually mean?
meaning til a certain time it will only be on 360 (a timed exclusive)

yeah, Netflix is a huge plus IMHO... I don't like the rental system on live, but i do love my instant netflix. goes hand in hand with the new box Netflix will be selling for their instant TV service.

All told, it was a completely serviceable conference. People seem to think that it's still the E3 of the past, where it was huge announcement after huge announcement, all looking to trump the other guy. Unless it's a year of new systems, the shocks just aren't there anymore.

MS showed exactly what they were going to do this upcoming year, and that's all they had to do. They skipped expected things (waggle controls), showed new footage of known things, revealed a completely new interface systems (which, if not exciting, is pretty huge, announcement-wise) and dropped what could be considered a megaton bomb for 360 vs. PS3. Someone already said it, but FF13 was a HUGE entry on the 'reasons to buy a PS3' list... and now it's irrelevant. That's big, whether you care or not.

I'm really not sure what else people wanted them to do.
Yea, besides FFXIII, everything seemed average.
What about Galaga, that actually looks interesting.
So does anyone here really want avatars?
I don't necessarily want them, but it looks fun regardless. I must be one of the few that thinks the new interface is better. Also happy about the ff13 announcement, although I think the game will end up being on like 50 discs. Banjo game looks good, can't wait to get the original on xbla. Oh yeah, netflix thing is great!

Quite impressed with this conference. Much better than last year.

New dashboard is bad ass (we all know they are still hiding the gesture/camera controls for it for now)
Netflix
Primetime
Gears2
RE5
Fallout 3
FF13

God of War 3 better be the coolest thing at E3 or Sony is in trouble. The Playstation 3 is about to go down as the worlds fanciest Bluray player.
Not at all. FF13 was the only good part.
ur shitting me right? banjo on xbla? the new party mode with the new dashboard? xbl primetime? exclusive portal 2? rock band 2 timed exclusive? sharing movies with friends? wtf is there not to like? ps3 can't have an answer barring their e3 announcement being they purchased MS

When is the original Banjo hitting XBL? I missed the video from that.

And yes, Sony has very little to show tomorrow.
The whole avatar thing is very similar to Sony's delayed Home.
FFXIII on both systems.
RE5 on both systems.
Rock Band 2 on 360 first.

They have what, God of War? LBP? Ouch.
Not at all. FF13 was the only good part.
Resident Evil 5 was pretty sweet too.

I'm still getting it on the PS3 though.
Boy, it sure will be fun watching Netflix with online buddies.
does this mean, that if i own netflix, and i start a movie, all of my friends who do not own netflix, can watch it too for free?
yea another year goes by and no new killer instinct :(
I don't get the big appeal on a new KI game. The first KI game was ok for a weekend or two but has/had no long term playability besides memorizing a 30 button push combo. The sequels got worse and the game had serious balancing issues. The only good thing about the game was the humor.

How the hell would you know what Sony is showing?

I kind of want the Avatars. They'll be fun to mess around with every once and a while. I know a lot of "hardcore" gamers don't want to be bothered with stuff like that, but if there are a lot of choices and custom options for them I think it'll be cool to mess around with.

The new dash is terrible and ugly and a big fuck you to anyone who bought themes.

Did they put anything up for Bringing it Home? Anything at all?

Same. I like options and playing with things, so it'll amuse me for a while. I think the new dashboard looks kinda neat too.

That's what I was wondering at the same time... my guess is the only way to access it is if you do have netflix... but I don't know...

.

Yea, FFXIII is big for MS. JRPGs are pretty niche, but FF is probably the only one that has hit real mainstream appeal.

The games they showcased at the start looked good enough. MoTs for GoW2 & RE5. I'm thinking I will be more impressed when I see both in HD as opposed to on my monitor. Fallout looked good and Fable II has alot of potential.

The new Dash looks horrible, and Mii's/Avatars are not a direction MS had to go, in my opinion, but they want to appeal to the Wii/casual gamer market and alot of what they showed will (possibly) do that. Movie Game/Lips/Online Gameshows.

Love the NetFlix and the sharing of movies. Did they mention if they would be available in High Def or ?

RB setlist is awesome. Kinda Meh on GHIV. Put off by buying new instruments.

I want Avatars too, it look more cooler and better than the Miis.
no mentions of price cut either....
Didn't they already confirm it yesterday? The price drop is just to clear out the 20gb inventory and make room for the new 60gb units at the 20's price.

Wow, I found that a lot more huge than last year. I also didn't know about the mountable machine gun in Gears 2, which looks completely badass. Banjo XBLA I think is coming holiday season?
Fallout 3 was not as impressive as I had hoped, but I have faith in Bethesda in that the game will just completely kickass.
For Fable 2, if you go through a lot of the story in your friends world, will that mean you have made absolutely no progress in your own? Looks great regardless...
And for those of you who have clicked on the bungie.net link... note the timer for Wednesday at 10 AM :)

Guess I'm the only one that is rather intrigued by the new Dash.

Seriously, they didn't play around with it enough for any of us to know how useful/fluid it is. Y'all are just big resisters to change.
Anyone else watching G4's feed? There's like 8 G4 logos on screen right now lol.
It's better than GameSpot's website that keeps crashing. :bomb:

I don't see the huge issues with the new dash as well. We really didn't get to see that much of it, and it HAS to be more streamlined then the shitty one we have now. Plus, we have no idea if themes still work on it, but I'd have to guess that they will somehow.

another question is is will we be able to share videos from a pc or xblm dl's...

so they r getting rid of gamerpics i guess?

People like customization, which is why themes are such a big thing right now. I can't see Microsoft forgetting about all that. I think they were just pressed for time and had to show some other, more important things right now. I'm sure we'll see more as time goes by. Personally, I'm excited about the new dash.
Why did they pan the camera out on the FF13 video?
There was probably a limitation on what they could show, and used the pan-out to show something to us.

You can't count Sony out yet, they still have hidden potential. I have a feeling that Kratos will make an appearance which will make people go ape shit. Either way, the MS conference was just OK so I'm willing to see what the others bring (though Nintendo will probably have a baby stroller game with matching peripherals).
(though Nintendo will probably have a baby stroller game with matching peripherals).
Hahahaha, awesome image in my head from that one. Seems very likely.

People aren't shitting on the conference because Microsoft showed bad products, they're shitting on it because there weren't many new things shown. And the things that were new seemed either unimpressive (See: dashboard) or weren't shown enough (see: Portal/South Park).

I have to admit I'm impressed. I've been thinking about buying a Wii as a ploy to get my girlfriend into gaming. Looks like I'll have plenty of games to try and hook her in this year. I'm interested in the avatar primetime thing. Lips if I really can plug my own music into it could be really awesome. The your in the movies thing looked a little like eyetoy shovelware but if done right it could be a really good time. I'm sort of glad to see something besides shooters coming out for the xbox.

Kinda dissapointing if you ask me, FFXIII was the only big announcement, but I got the impression it's a timed exclusive for sony, and no mention of versus. If versus is still ps3 only and regular xiii is a timed exclusive I don't think this will hurt sony sales as much as it may appear.

Gears did look very cool, but that was expected. Nothing about the content of gta dlc, no bungie game, no motion controller (except the mic, and if that song was a highlight of what's in the game then the set list is not promising, who the fuck is duffy).

/in case you wanted the thoughts of a PS3 fanboy (mainly because it's the system I own)

From Major Nelson's blog which he got in a letter from Xbox Live GM Marc Whitten:
· Play from hard drive. Copy your games from the game disc and play directly from the hard drive. Not only will the drive not spin, but load times are quicker, as well. Of course, you will still need the disc in the tray to prove you own the game.
· Access Xbox LIVE Marketplace on the Web. Browse and purchase Marketplace content whenever you want from Xbox.com and it downloads automatically to your console. Purchase that new map, television episode, the latest Xbox LIVE Arcade game or set up a movie to watch when you get home from work.
· Dashboard built into the new Xbox Guide. For everyone who loves the blades interface, it’s not going away; they are now built directly in to the new Xbox guide. Every feature and option is available right from the guide. You can even access your full games library at all times. No matter where you are (in dash or in game), immediately call up your games played list and directly launch a game.
· LIVE Party system. Create a party of up to eight friends, and stay with them from one game to another, or watch a Netflix movie together, or share a slideshow of your personal photos. It works with all Xbox 360 titles, not just upcoming games. LIVE Party allows up to eight people to chat in the dashboard, so you can meet up before playing.
· Xbox LIVE Primetime. This whole new category of games is going to give you more reasons to get online with your friends. Games will support everything you’d expect, like Achievements and leader boards, but many of these games will include real prizes. You can invite your friends, and even set a reminder for an upcoming show. Each game is broadcast simultaneously, so everyone is answering the same questions. Many events will have a live host, calling the shots as they happen.
· Avatars. Your online identity started as a Gamertag - it then grew into a personalized Gamercard. Now, it has evolved even further into avatars. You can express your style, check out new outfits and share this with the community. Avatars will also be integrated into Xbox LIVE Arcade games, LIVE Party, as well as retail games.
· New display support. Because you asked for it, we are adding 16X10 over VGA or HDMI, and support for 1440x900 or 1680x1050
