And as for EJs overall, who knows what it really is since that is dependent on schemes for each team. I like that there is more emphasis on the skills instead of just one overall number..but I wish there was a way to still easily compare players independent of each teams schemes.

That's true. Forgot about that.

I lost to the canes 30-17. I don't know why I've been so bad lately. I think this season the team wasn't built to my strengths. I also think that I'm going to try and find a new playbook in both leagues.

I noticed you had two restarts. Are you still having connection issues? I figured you got a hard wire recently because it was so smooth when we last played but I guess maybe not?

I have a very busy weekend ahead but should be able to find time regardless - just not sure yet when that'll be. Sunday night I should be around. I also may find myself home tomorrow during the day if the snow is as bad as predicted. Saturday morning/early afternoon might work too. We will see. Do you have any times in particular that are good or bad?

Apparently your coach is on the clock because you got an offer from Purdue. My job security plummeted with good reason.

I don't recall specifically any issues on the last game, it has been awhile since I played it..though connection hasn't been an issue. It likely was my baby. The good news is that he has been in a sleeping groove as of late, so I doubt it will be an issue moving forward. It is nice to be able to do something without constantly having to go into his room to try to comfort him. I still am waking up in the middle of the night though, I am so conditioned to it now. That will go away eventually.

I also finally got into another game mode, so I will only try to play RTG around his sleeping times in case I do need to stop.

Sucks you lost to the Canes, but at least it was to your team. I forgot to tell you I went to the Russell Athletic Bowl to watch the Miami-Louisville game. Sucked they didn't play a little better, I was thinking it was going to be one of the better matchups in all the bowls. I also had better hopes for the Hawkeyes..not that they would win really, but I was hoping they would just play a little better. Only lost by a TD, but it was never in doubt for LSU.

I am not for sure on times. I am going out with friends to watch the playoffs, so my times will be a bit spotty. I got time late tonight if you can swing that. If not, I will see what I can do. I am really excited for the draft, even though I feel like my scouting is incomplete.

My scouting is definitely incomplete too. Tonight I am supposed to have dinner plans, weather permitting, but will be home after that.

Pretty cool that you got to the bowl game, I've never been to one. I had friends go to that game too and they were disappointed to say the least. I was much less optimistic than them. Miami can't stop the pass the past two years and going up against Bridgewater spelled disaster.

Cool, I will be on about 10, and will post here when I do. If you aren't able to make it, don't sweat it, I am just gonna play around with RTG probably until I see you online.

Looked closer at some of my rookie's attributes and some might be salvageable. 1 or 2 are still busts though.

Anywho, just let me know when you get a chance to advance both leagues..really excited to get both seasons started.

I am too. I assume you're ok with advancing through the preseason in madden right? I was also wondering if I changed schemes if some of my rookies might be better than I realized.

Sorry I've been MIA on this since the weekend. Crazy work week. I'm going to advance madden in about a half hour. I'll try to do it without injuries if possible.

Madden week 1 underway. Still some major Free agents available and so e big cuts (49ers cut Gore). I didn't do any signings because you didn't have he same opportunity during the preseason, so our season officially starts now. I may play my game. Not going to make any FA offers until after that or probably even before week 2.

20-13 win over the cowboys to start 2014. Boyd with a gorgeous TD pass to Maclin over the shoulder out of the reach of two defenders. Final line 11-18 for 160 and a TD, plus 29 yards rushing and a TD on the ground. Not bad at all. I tried the 9ers play book and it wasn't bad but not exactly what I'm looking for either.

I beat NE 14-7 by scoring a TD with 30 seconds to go. Great defense on both sides. I had about a 110 yards passing and rushing each. I think NE had 150 yards total. Not a typical day for Brady, barely hit 100 yards and no TDs with a pick. My offense found a little more success moving the ball but really struggled on big 3rd downs. It was a great game to play out.

So how do we want to handle FAs? Post our top 3 wanted ones and if there are no conflicts, we can sign them? I badly need some depth at a few positions.

I don't mind if you sign some players. I would say the only positions I really need are TE and DT. Other than that sign whoever you would like. If it's one of those just let me know and I'll tell you if I want to bid. Also feel free to advance to week 2 and play. Sorry I haven't played much all week, a lot of late nights at work. Sunday night I'll be back to gaming. I know I need to kick off the NCAA league too.

It's cool, I have been pretty jammed too. Hope things can lighten up for ya soon.

I need a DT so I'll post who I am looking at in that position, but I prob won't have a huge preference, just need some depth.

I also need a HB, like to have 3 on the roster at least. I think my other position was either LB or OL.

Man, I just ripped the Chiefs, 42-7. My D was unbelievable, they pitched a shutout really since KCs lone score came on a pick 6. The Chiefs offense couldn't even muster 100 yards total.

Alex Smith - 0 QBR, 7/24, 57 yards, 0 TDs, 6 INTs.

EJ had 5 TDs (all to different receivers) and 3 INTs (2 my fault, not his). Spiller rushed for 178 yards and a score.

I am set to advance whenever you get time to get your game in. I picked up my couple of players outside of a DT. I will give you first crack at that position before getting someone.

Wow that's a monster game. 6 INTs for Smith is crazy. Maybe even more nuts is that you had enough possessions to throw 3 picks and 5 TDs.
I should be able to play tomorrow night.

30-10 win over the giants who apparently are now coached by Andy Reid! Taj Boyd with 272, 3 TDs and a pick (absolutely my fault). Advanced.

Oh and I almost forgot that I had the craziest play I've seen in a long time. Boyd's pass tipped at the line - goes very high in the air. Ivory tracks it down and has effectively a jump ball, comes down with it, shrugs off the defender, and goes 30 yards for the touchdown. Absurd.

Apparently when you generate the schedule you can play neutral site games. Want to play our game near the end of the season at a random neutral stadium? I think that could be interesting. The only thing is if we do it you should change your schedule to give yourself an extra home game for recruiting purposes.

Wow, that is an awesome turn of events in that play. It seems like Boyd is definitely an upgrade over Geno. I hope you get a real life upgrade there too. ;)

On NCAA I am ready to advance. I can't change schedules though, couldn't last year either. It must be a commish only feature for some reason.

I'll see if I can change the schedule tonight and advance it. I'll give you an extra home game and make our game at a neutral site.

I also realized that I may not have turned injuries back on after the preseason. I'll check on that later too.

By the way, if you look at scouting the top 15 for us next year looks stacked. Bridgewater, Clowney, Braxton, etc.

NCAA season underway. I didn't change the schedule because you would've had too few late year home games which would've hurt your recruiting so I left it as is.

NCAA is set to advance for me. I have a bye and set up my recruiting.

I thrashed the Geno led Raiders, 52-6. Geno was awful, 13.8 QBR, 8 for 26, 113 yds, 0 TDs and 2 picks.

EJ had a great game, 3 TDs and 0 picks. CJ ran for several nice runs, picking up 178 yards and 3 TDs himself. I also had a kickoff return for a score.

I wasn't sure if Boyd was much better until now. I still can't believe how good you've made EJ. He's basically become an elite QB in our league, and if you've been progressing him he will probably stay that way.

Thanks, yea, EJ seems poised for a pretty good career. I am sure you will reach the same point with Boyd too. I am going to take a look at him the next time I get on, but I imagine he looks a lot like EJ did attribute wise before he took that next step.

Since Gardner graduated I decided to start a freshman QB instead of the senior backup. Also because the freshman is from Baldwin, NY which is right next door to the town where I grew up. Anyhow, 19-22 for 250 and 2 TDs in his first game leading Michigan to a 28-13 victory over Oregon State. Advanced. 2015 is officially underway.

The year is off to a terrible start for the Hawkeyes. We opened with a tough conference game against #25 Maryland and they opened the game with 2 miraculous INTs that defied physics, but regardless, they happened and they turned them into a nice 14-0 lead. By early 4th quarter, I scored to tie it at 14, but Maryland would score again and take the lead for good. Down 21-14 with about 2.5 minutes left, I decided to go for it on 4th and long and hit my TE right in the hands, only for him to drop it. Maryland scored another quick TD and then a FG as time expired.

#25 Maryland - 31

#12 Iowa - 14

Oh man, that's a tough loss. I think I play in Maryland in week 3.

What playbooks do you use out of curiosity? I was using Bama in the past but after struggling last season I am looking for a new one. I tried Baylor last night. It was a lot of shotgun without any true running sets and I prefer a good mix.

On D I have been using 3-4 for years but since I lost 3 of my 4 linebackers to the NFL I used 4-3 last night. Mixed results, had trouble stopping the pass.

Just be prepared for a hurry up offense and the option. You will be fine assuming their D doesn't have a rash of miracle INTs again (I had 4 total and only one was from a poor throw/decision). Their pass D was otherwise suspect, I only had one incompletion that wasn't an INT and that was my big dropped pass by my TE late.

I use the Iowa play book on both offense and defense. Neither is very special.

Lost a heartbreaker 22-17 to the Steelers. Definitely disappointed over this one. Defensive battle the whole way but my corners dropped, literally, a dozen INTs. I forced no turnovers and Sam Shields alone had about four off his hands. So frustrating. Steelers didn't even score a TD until 19 sexonds left to take the lead.

Holy crap, that sucks. I have had a ton of drops too but since I usually end up with a couple, it hasn't been that big of deal. I can't believe they had 5 FGs, that's crazy good red zone D by your team.

How did Boyd perform?

I looked back and was mistaken by the way. They had two TDs. I think I was up 14-9 around halftime. They scored and went for 2 and were denied so it was 15-14. Then I had a FG in the 4th with 3 min left to take the 17-14 lead and then they scored with no time left plus 2pt conversion. All the drops on defense really killed me.

Boyd was so so. I threw a bad pick that was my fault downfield because I got trigger happy and couldn't find an open receiver at one point. Second INT with no time left in the game on a Hail Mary. He had a monster run on the final drive to set up the FG that gave me the 17-15 lead, only 1 TD, and was something like 13-23 for 150. He also had a 50 yard screen to Maclin that counted as a run for Mac instead of a pass - I guess I threw it behind Boyd so it was technically a lateral.

FYI I set to ready but I guess you forgot to do the same because it didn't advance. Whenever you have a chance, no rush.

Another big game from EJ. 305 yards, 5 TDs, 1 INT and completed 77% of his passes. Spiller ran for 138 and a TD, along with Ridley getting 81 yards and a score as well. I picked Flacco off twice, then hurt him in the 4th. We picked his backup off twice to score a couple of easy late TDs to make the game look more like a blowout than it really was.

Jeremy Gallon got his first action on the field, catching 2 passes for 29 yards. He also had a drop. :(

I have my bye next week, I hate having them early like this. My young stud DT could be hitting the trading block as I look to resign some other players. I reupped DE Jerry Hughes with a 4 yr, 21 million deal.

Get a chance to get any games in yet?

BTW, I took Dareus off the block..we ended up agreeing to a reasonable contract. 5 yr 22.5 mill.

Infuriating loss. Led the whole way and they come back with a kickoff fumble recovery, a fourth down conversion, and a 51 yard FG into 9mph wind with seconds left. Unreal.

Unbelievable, I hate that crap. Bothers me for days.

Did you advance? My bye is up next, but I still want to do some weekly activities. I will log on tonight and check my trade and contract offers to see where I stand.

I advanced it. I play the Pats this week. Must win at 2-2. Got your email. Thank you. We've been together for a little over three years. You mentioned your wife in the past and that you have a few little ones right?

Yea, wife and two boys..my oldest is 15 years old and my youngest is 21 months. BIG gap. We had one very young and waited until our 30s for Round 2.
