As excited as I was when I first heard that Netflix was coming to PS3, once I actually tried it out for myself, my reaction was blah!
While it's nice to have the option to stream Netflix through PS3, it's not enough to justify paying for an account (which I was going to do- 1 disc at a time with blu-ray for $10.99 a month). Thank goodness my brother has an account with Netflix, but doesn't have a PS3. I ordered the disc through his account, and can use it to watch unlimited movies. Other than checking it out for 10 or 15 minutes to make sure it works, I've yet to watch an entire movie.
Now when PS3 adds a system update in 2010 that no longer requires you to have the disc to access Netflix, I'm hoping they also add a streaming only plan for $5.99 a month. I would consider that (even watching 4-5 movies a month would justify the cost).
They wouldn't as the online viewing is offered thru netflix. They just allow 3rd parties like Microsoft, Sony, whomever makes Tivo, etc to also access their streaming.
Sony has no say in the pricing its all up to netflix.
Also seriously if $8.99 a month is too much for the amount they have for streaming go mow a yard once a month.
