Kind of a weird story. I went to CC tonight and bought the following:

Prince of Persia WoW GC
Ridge Racer DS
Baten Kaitos
Transformers
Destruction Derby Arenas (2 copies, FYE trade fodder)
Project Snowblind PS2
WWE Day of Reckoning GC
THUG 2 GC
NHL 2005 GC
Spiderman 2 GC

Everything rang up at full price and the total came to $341 and some change. Figured I'd price match when the clearance started.

When I get home, there's a message on my voice mail from the manager at CC. He says since the games I bought will be clearance items, they're not eligible for "price matching." Then he said I could return the games for a refund. Then he summarized and repeated that the games weren't eligible for "price match plus."

Of course, this is weird on a lot of levels. The manager was standing next to the cashier as I was ringing up, but he was on the phone. And nobody mentioned anything about the clearance while I was at the store, particularly me. But obviously, he knew exactly what I was up to.

The manager has rung me out during previous clearances, but it's been so long that I honestly didn't think he'd remember me. Apparently he did. Though it's a little Big Brotherish, I appreciate the call. He probably wanted me to make sure I knew the situation before I opened the games and could no longer return them. Of course, I still don't know if he meant I couldn't price match them at all, or just not for the extra 10%.

In all honesty, I don't really care about the 10%. I'll be out of town when the clearance starts, so I mainly hoped to secure the games I wanted most. Whether I get the extra 10% off or not is secondary.

By the time I got the message, the store was closed. I'll call back tomorrow for a clarification. I have to imagine that if I brought the games in during the clearance, returned them, and bought them right back, they'd be okay with that. That way I'd get the clearance prices but not the 10%. That's fine with me.

I'll keep you posted. Just don't expect to get the extra 10% if you buy early and price match later. Unless your store is more lenient than mine anyway.

BTW, does anyone know if this will be advertised? I'm guessing so as it starts on a Sunday but I'm hoping not. All those soccer moms and spaztic nerds always line up before the store opens and hog everything worthwile...

looks like i'll be buying nothing for myself unless the list changes. I would probably get THUG 2 if it's $10 for Xbox. I might buy a couple games after checking trade values elsewhere though. I'm still keeping my fingers crossed for an announcement of upcoming GR deals right around the time of this sale.:pray:

Oh yea and people were talking about FW early, I like alot of people here came over from FW. I don't visit there but maybe once or twice a week now though as i used to buy to much stuff i didn't really need. This site has made me money though and me likes it. ;)

The first thing the cashier asked me when I was ringing out was my phone number. She used it to look me up in the system. And then she named my road and asked if I still lived there.

In other words, they have all my info. Hmmm. That is kind of scary now that you mention it...

I have a feeling that all of the worthwhile games will be gone too when I get home, all traded in to the Book & Music Exchange in Henderson for that overpriced Lunar 2 they probably STILL HAVE.

Any purchases over $100 requires your name, address and phone # before it can be tendered. That's how they have your information. I go in to work at 2P EST tomorrow so I'll see what I can find out about this starting early. The prices MIGHT be downloaded early Saturday night (7/2) but we won't know until then.

whats stopping us (if anything) from ordering online, getting it and then going to the B&M location to do a price adjustment? (i cant select in-store p/u even though one of my stores has the games available).

I just want Project Snowblind on xbox and Rumble Roses. But some bastard reseller (not talking about the cool reseller who comes into my work) will probably buy them all up in milwaukee again, like happened last year. fuck that. I hope CC does a better job of limiting those who want to buy carts full of games just to re-sell them.
 
I went to CC tonight to pick up a couple games before they pulled them. Didn't really end up with much though, they were in the process of pulling the games when I got there.

The guy that was pulling them asked me if there was a game that I was looking for and when I mentioned Project: Snowblind he got a bit of a funny look on his face and told me that he had pulled it because of the sale for the 4th. He was nice enough to go grab one out of the back for me though (already re-stickered at $9.99! although rang up full price.) He kept telling me that if I waited I could get it for cheaper, but I asked him if they would do the price match during the sale and he said that they would.

Sounds like CC are on top of the situation this year, they probably don't want a repeat of the fiasco last July where the prices went into effect early and they didn't even know about it...

Baiten Kaitos for sure... POP2 but hopefully the XB version (for online) is also $9.99.

Rumble of Roses too... the current EB $9.99 periodic price-drop and subsequent sold-out situation is driving me nuts so CC is the way to go.

Why are they pulling the games off the shelves? You would think they would want to make more money on the non-clearance prices...

warrior within (GC) and project snowblind (xbox) shall be mine. It is so good, i am going out of town for the next week and half, so i can be somewhere with a CC.
 
I cannot stress enough that if you want to get any of these deals, you should GO NOW. Its a bit of a hassle to have to go back for the price match, but it is worth it. Especially since they give you back 110% of the difference; that means you actually get them for $8.xx.

I hit my local CC today and it was a gold mine. They have nearly everything on the list, and I got the last copy of a couple of them; I'm glad I went. Now that the deal is all over the web, you're not gonna find jack shit on the 3rd. As usual, the game section was horribly disorganized, but I knew from last year that a little digging would be rewarded!

Once I make sure the price match is a done deal, I will gladly trade the Baten Kaitos to a fellow CAG. I would have left it there for someone else, but I figured since there are hardly any CAGs here that it would probably just been grabbed by a FW of Gfaqs douche if I didn't grab it.

Side note: my CC had a DVD bin out with all the old Batman movies for $6.99 ea. I grabbed the first two (awesome!) and the third one (only about 50% awesome), but I passed on the rotten fourth one. Still, its a good way to complete the set for cheap.

EDIT: BTW, this is the Perimeter Mall CC, for those interested. The Buckhead location had a bunch of these as well (I was there on Mon, and I saw at least a good many of them), but the local FWs usually clean this one out quick. If you are in the area and go soon, you'll probably have a chance!
