Actually, I'm pretty sure Circuit City higher ups encourage the hoarders, which is why they don't place limits on how many games you can get.

Think of it if you ran a store, and had a sale and nobody bought anything. The purpose of these clearance sales is to get rid of all this stuff rotting on the shelves - hoarders buying them en masse is accomplishing that goal.

I wouldn't be surprised if Circuit City themselves "leaked" a copy of the list, knowing full well people would buy all of this stuff espically since what happened last year.

I don't condone hoarding, I think it's horrible, but for Circuit City, they probably love it. It might be hell on the person checking them out at the register, but when has management ever cared about the lower people on the food chain?
All valid points. I know sales like this are designed to clean out inventory, though when it makes them bend their policies to their advantage when they normally wouldn't, that tends to tick me off when they've selectively applying their rules.

Anything that clears the inventory off their shelves quickly is good for them, yes, though when they end up having pissed-off customers in the process, in the long run, it ends up being a worse issue for shoppers who won't go there again.

That's true, but either way it could come back to bite them in the ass.

Let's say they placed a limit of only three games per person for the deal, and there was 4 or 5 you were interested in? Either way, it's going to create some resentment, no matter which route you choose, and one route has them cleaning stock a hell of alot faster.

But as I mentioned earlier, I highly doubt hoarders are going to hit this one en masse... anything will sell if it's $5 pretty much, but at $10 alot of this stuff won't be very profitable, after ebay listings and paypal fees. Not to mention many of these games can be had for around the same price if you dig hard enough.

I mean, many of the bigger name games were just on sale at K-Mart for 10-15 dollars, and didn't sell then... I'm not sure hoarders will rush Baten Kaitos for 5 dollars less. That's good for CAG's in the long run, because now people can get the games they want to play.

The only problem I see is trying to get a price adjustment on 6 or 7 games on one receipt at one time... I could see that causing an issue.

Well I did some recon on the CC near me, the games I want are still there, alas still full price. Yes I know this doesn't start till 07/03, but I was hoping for an early headstart ;)

Checked my local CC this morning and scanned copies of PoP:WW and MMAC (both for the Cube), with no luck. They both rang up for their normal price of $29.99 a piece, even though PoP was tagged at $49.99.

I'm seriously thinking about doing what Shrike did and buying them early, then bringing them back on the 3rd and praying for the PM. There was only one copy of MMAC left, and I don't want to miss out on that.

I'm going to wait til the 3rd. I don't have the time or money to go all the way down there to try to buy now then pricematch. I see a few on the list that I'll try to pick up for myself. If I see any extra copies of some more sought after games like PoP or Baten Kaitos, I'll grab another copy for my fellow CAG's. I'll let you guys know.

So if they do mark these as clearance, there are no rules about returning them? I know some stores have rules that say clearance items are non refundable.

I'd hate for me, or any other CAG, to spend full price on these just to find out clearance stuff is non refundable or returnable.

Limit of 3 games per person per deal would get someone ticked off, regardless. Limit of 3 games per person per store visit, I'm OK with, I'd just go to other stores.
Limit of 3 total, yech, that would be meh for a lot, though I could just pick three (Snowblind + couple other games) and be happy with it, assuming the list doesn't change. If the list changes, like the prior CC sale, then crap, WTF is with planning on their end for it?

From the three I went to, there was at least a couple of copies of most games, so I don't think this being a huge issue, company-wide. I found the ones I was looking for, save a couple I was only mildly interested in.

As I picked up 8-9 games on one receipt (including 4 for other CAGs, on request), I'm sure I'll find out at the time on the PM. Oh well.

While you're on and viewing the thread, how are you going to handle the pricematch?

Something like "Hi, I heard all these games went down in price?" or something a bit more extravagant?

Since it's not advertised, I'm wondering what you'll tell the CSR. Since I'm only getting one game, I can just use the "This game recently went down in price" line, but I'm wondering what you'd say for more than 1 or 2?

At the time of purchase for me, they weren't on sale or clearance, so I would think I'm able to return without any issue.

During the sale, not sure. During the $5 sale, I picked up plenty of games and ended up returning them, so I'd like to think the same rules apply. If not, then CC corp gets a nasty call.

I still don't understand how you can buy it now and return the next few days and be like "hey - I want this game for a cheaper price now that it has dropped." That's like buying a ps2 at gamestop before it dropped to 150 and going back and saying "give me my money back."

How exactly is this situation handled? I'm going to drive to my local CC's and see if the games I want are there. Last time - i lost out on everything - including disgaea.

It's a price match. Pure and simple.

I plan to walk in there, hand them the receipt, with the games in the bag, and say "All these games are now $9.99. Feel free to check in your computer system for the price. Please pricematch them according to your pricematch policy of pricematch + 10%."

I know for me, since I'll only be getting Ridge Racer DS, I'll just tell them a friend said the game was cheaper than I paid for it, and if I could get a price adjustment. I've done it before, bought a game for say, 40, and a week later its price drops to 30.

Not sure how you'd do it for 7 or 8 games, though.

I'm assuming that the games need to be bought within a window of time close to the price drop right?

Maybe I'll go and pick them up. In the worst case scenario that they won't PM me, I guess I could return them and get my cash back.

Their PM policy is 30 days from date of purchase, which this will be.

If they refuse to PM + 10%, they should adjust the price to $9.99 without question.

If they waffle on the latter point, then they get the games back and their corp office gets a nasty call with a complaint from me.

30 days is the rule.

I did it during the first CC deal. I bought Red Faction 2 for 15 dollars and then 6 days later it dropped to 7.50. I went to the front desk said the price dropped showed them my receipt, they gave me 7.50 plus 10%, printed me a new receipt and sent me on my way.

I know this might sound like a really stupid question - but I've never price matched - dealt with managers - or even anyone with this sort of authority at a store so I'm gonna ask...

Do they give you back cash? Or just store credit?

By the way - thanks for everyone sticking with me and dealing with my lame questions.

well in this case, you want a price adjustment to what you already bought.
so it would depend on how you paid. if you paid with a CC they would credit the difference back to that. i assume with cash you'd get cash.

You get your money back on the PM, which is them adjusting the price to match another competitor's price, in this case CC's own pricing.

PM returns the difference (or difference + 10%) back to your payment method. Back to your credit card if paid by credit card, cash if by check or cash, and so on.

It's your money you're getting back, not store credit.

Another thing is to act friendly and polite to the CSR when you're asking for a price adjustment.

If you go in there all gloating, and acting like you just ripped the system, they'll be less apt to help you out. However, if you go in there normal and act nice, they'll probably do it no problem.

I always take the time to be friendly... it goes a long way.

I'm assuming I need to price match at the store I bought from correct? Here's my predicament. I have a CC with a small game collection - only 5-10 from me. Then, in Newington, CT - there is a CC with one monster of a collection (had 20 disgaea's at the 5 dollar deal that got hoarded) but it's 45 minutes away. I'm going to head out in the next 30 minutes and just look and see what they have - maybe pick up some of my big want that would most likely be bought out when I went on july 3rd. The thing is - would I have to price match at the newington store or could I just go to the one closer to me after purchasing them at the one in Newington?

I just got back from my closest CC in Pearland, TX. They had a bunch of copies of RR DS and most of the other games on the list (couldn't find Project Snowblind though).I had them price check RR DS, but it came up normal price. I guess I'll try and get there first thing next Sunday to try and get in on some of these.

Side note: I did pick up 3 copies of POP: SOT (GCN) at the same CC today for $1.99 each. The weird thing is that I picked up a copy (which I ended up trading) over a month ago at this store and then went back a week later to try and get some more for trade and they were all gone. I went back today and they had five on the shelf and I'm pretty sure they were the same ones, as one had a strange looking $39.99 tag on it that I noticed last time....kinda weird that they left and came back though. Anyway, I'm keeping 1 for myself and 2 are for trade for any cheapass $1.99 - $4.99 PS2 or GCN games anyone wants to offer.

It can be a different store, it dosen't have to be the same one.

As long as you have a receipt, it's a nation wide price when it drops so a different store will have no problem doing the price adjustment.

This isn't any different then going in there on July 3rd and buying the games for 9.99. Product is leaving the shelves either way, and that's the intent of this whole sale.

Returning games to walmart for a 300% profit - and abusing the gamerush deal - are on different immoral levels and cannot really be compared to price matching. To me - they are different things. In reality - they pretty much are.

Explain how I'm a hyprocite when:

1) I have no GR in my area, so can't "abuse" the GR deal.
2) I've never returned a game under fraudulent circumstances in my life, nor would I ever.

What I'm doing is nothing incorrect or wrong, morally or legally. If they choose not to abide by their own policy, then the games I bought will go back.

Don't generalize my actions with the actions of others, unless you have proof. If you have proof that disputes my claims of #1 or #2 above, then post it and make a liar out of me. Otherwise, fuck off.

No, not plain and simple. I could be wrong, but does the policy state that you have to not know about future price drops to use the 110% policy? I'm not saying that you're wrong, but I don't understand why that is fraud. Anyway, many people are buying games early mostly because, you know, they're actually in the store now, not neccesarily to commit the so-called "fraudulent" behavior.

Their pricematch policy makes that completely legal. Text of which is posted earlier in the thread, from the CC website.

If it's a posted policy, how's it illegal? Have you ever benefited from the posts that TSD's put up here for the weekly fliers? Not from here, but from another site?

Getting information in advance isn't illegal, unless the law says so. Insider trading isn't allowed, because there's legislation against it. As there isn't here, it's not illegal.

Get your facts straight before you decide to toss morality around. And if you question the morality of someone else, fucking have some facts to back it up. Otherwise, you look foolish.

You know about an unannounced sale.

Your buying games you KNOW will be cheaper next week.

YOURE going to use a store policy that gives you 110% back on the difference.

Seems to be a little devious dont ya think?

Blame whomever posted the information originally. We're getting it a tad nth-hand, so the blame can be put back there. Could easily be CC that leaked it to generate demand in advance. We don't know and won't ever know.

I'm buying games at normal price today that will be cheaper next week, that I might or might not get cheaper. CC could deny their PM policy to me on the ground that it's a special sale, and I end up benefiting nothing at all.

They could also just match their price to me on the same reasons, and not provide me the additional 10%. Net benefit to me is only that I'm getting the games, in place of someone else who'll use the same information for their purposes.

And actually, no, I don't think it's devious. All I've done is pick up games at normal prices. I could get the PM and I couldn't. It's not up to me. It's up to CC. The proof will be on July 3rd.

Yep. $20 + 10% off additional ($2), so would be $7.99. $19.99 games would be $8.99 and $24.99 games would be $8.50. $14.99 games would be $9.49.

This sale will most likely be in the ad in Sunday's (7/3) paper. So, as organicow, shrike and a few others have said, BUY THE GAMES NOW. It is highly unlikely that you will have a problem getting the price match done. Just treat the CSA's nicely and be gracious. Being a CSA, I guarantee this goes a long way. I haven't seen the ad yet but when I do I wll confirm whether the sale will be advertised.
