IMO, we need seperate threads for the different regions of the US and Canada where people might find the deals from EACH deal thread. It would go as follows:

Kmart Game Trading Thread(already one of these under the CAG VG Trading section of CAG)

Kmart Game Deal Finder(post actual locations and the price the game(s) came up, how many(if any) left and any other clearance games found. This could also be used for reporting NEW non-game deals(like the 42" big screen tv I reported on in the old thread for $360.00)

Kmart General Discussion Thread(this would be for all the chit chat that clogged the old thread, namely asking when the prices would drop again)

And, you could have a different CAG responsible for keeping EACH thread on topic and allow them to delete posts which stray too far outside the purpose of each thread.

But hey, that's just an idea and a way to keep the needless posts out and the page count down.

Oh and on the subject of the big screen I mentioned earlier in this post. It was an Akai(rebranded tv, made by Samsung but branded Akai) 42" rear projection hdtv ready big screen.

UPC # 036725247017 Model # PT4250A Price of it was/is $360.00

And, if anyone wants one, there's a display model left @ the Kmart in Pittston, Pennsylvania as of my last visit there. I believe this SAME store also still had the online adapters for the old("fat") model PS2s also in stock.
It's not like he/she gets paid to do it or something.
Still, this thread should have been created by someone that would regularly update it. The whole point is to be able to quickly and easily check current clearance prices.

It's not that easy though, as sometimes it seems like the OP in some of the threads don't have access to the info for the clearance they made the thread about.

And really, without access to the info, the thread doesn't work that well. Well, unless other CAGs report prices and the OP skims through all the posts to find the potential new prices of the clearance items.

And, that would be quite the time consuming job if this thread ends up like the other one did, with tons of pages filled per day.

I'll check chibi robo and giest today as the store down the street has both, and i think we do need multiple threads, one for talk/trade and one for just the prices
I still wonder if Geist and Chibi-Robo dropped to $5 or so yet, that's my magic price for those two games. Anyone have any info on those two?
I checked Chibi-Robo at a local store last night and it was still at $10.
And where do you think I would find the Triple pack at in the gaming section?
with the xbox games? And good luck getting it. Those things are hard to come by.

i think some people might be just asking "why start a new thread of the same when you cant even update it?". you start a new thread, everyone is happy for a week since its easier to find stuff but then you realize the first page wasnt updated in 2 weeks. its a little redundant dont you think? or maybe the right word is Dejavu... here you are at 20 or so pages in less than a months time and its too late to go through all the clutter cause it'll take you a long time. your thought about posting a newer thread almost didnt count anymore since its back to the same previous thread with the same problem. if you start a newer thread, own up to it. if you cant do the job right, have someone else do it.

@ IAmTheCheapestGamer: i think that idea could work. it should definately eliminate thread clutter. maybe even just subforums of your idea would work.

kmart deals
- deal finder
- discussion
- trading

i propose the idea :applause:

btw, big big big, well, huge, thanks to shingingslade for doing the previous clearance post. we should have him do this again, but help him throughout though..

If someone was willing to have a post in this thread(regularly updated), the OP/Topic title can point people to the right page, and in the OP, the exact post.

I disagree entirely with the idea of 3 separate threads. That is a major pain in the ass to keep track of (having to read all three and some people will invariably ask questions in one that belong in the other, etc)... I think it worked juat fine before. Looking through the thread is NOT that difficult for the OP. I was doing that on numerous threads last year when updating the CAGwiki with trade-in prices. What was NICE was when everything was in ONE thread as opposed to scattered all over the damn place. So if I was running the Kmart thread I'd want there just to be one place for all this crap. No need for editing/deleting of posts by the OP, no three seperate threads in different forums, none of that. What you end up with in that case is more people telling people they posted in the wrong thread than any actual useful information!

All the OP has to do is skim through the new posts once a day (or every few days even) and add any new games or add any YMMV pricing to the current list (like I suggested before - $4/$12 if there are two common prices).

And, yes, I'll volunteer to do it if no one else will.

Edit - Take the Target clearance thread as an example. I dutifully posted my games available from Target in the appropriate trade thread and got no contact from anyone. As soon as I reposted said trades WITHIN the main Target clearance thread, I had 3-4 offers. People just don't take the time to find the matching trade thread - they want to skim the current deals, and, apparently, if they see someone has something they are looking for there they will contact them about it ;). And the worst idea of all, in my mind, is a general Kmart discussion thread separate from the clearance - that just won't be followed or kept up with. Discussion of the clearance deal belongs in the clearance thread. I don't see it as that big a deal even if it veers off topic occasionally (flame-fests notwithstanding).

I agree io. The last thread was great. Who cares if someone posts, "I scored 2 copies of x and 1 is for trade." I think that's great. And honestly I don't see why that bothered anyone. We need to close this one up and have someone who will constantly update start a new one.

Damn, I can't believe this thread has been 9 pages of non-stop arguing about whether or not this dude is 'good enough' to post a follow-up to the unreasonably-deleted KMart thread! Close this shit up (for good reason this time) and just start a new one already - it's not as if THIS one doesn't deserve to be closed, what with the total dearth of worthwhile posting going on that would reasonably place this thread in the "video game deals" section.

And really, since the last one was deleted on such shaky grounds that barely any of the thread's frequenters could agree it was worth getting rid of, I'd bet one would have a hard time finding anyone who doesn't agree this one should go.

I just went to Kmart today and I showed the dude the SKU for Psychonaughts and he had to phone his manager and in the end they wouldn't let me do it.

It did have a sticker on it that said 15.00, but he still scanned the barcode on the back and it came up as 15. My SKU said it was 3.00, but the manager didn't allow it cause he thought it was suspicious.

Did I do somthing wrong or did you guys get lucky...?

help!

i went to my local kmart, they have all the games in a locked up glass case, they had a bunch of the games i wanted at the cheap prices in this forum

an old guy came over and opened the case and let me look at them, and we would bring the games to a scanner attached to a building support beam, hahaha, and they all rang up at really high prices and not the deals listed in this forum

does my kmart just not support this or what's going on?

are they the ones that has that big red $14.99 sticker price? those used to be the .01 games, but they decided to slap a different and generic barcode in the back and sell it for $14.99. theres alot of them. usually YMMV on all the clearance prices. kmarts tends to have different prices on different stores. but if youre talking about completely different games than the ones i was talking about, try to be more specific. which games are coming up at what prices?

The first thing in the first post of any new thread needs to be an explanation of the variable nature of the clearance prices AND an explanation of the $15.99/$9.99 re-stickered games.

If the UPC has a sticker over it with a DIFFERENT UPC than you are expecting for the game, then it will most likely not ring up the cheapest price listed in this thread. And it certainly isn't just on the pennied out games - it happens on Nightmare Before Christmas (Xbox) for example, which is still $3 if you can find it without the new UPC sticker. I wasn't aware they were doing this with Psychonauts now, though. However, one of my Kmarts still has it ringing up for $21 with the original UPC. It just happens sometimes ;).

hey thanks for the reply, i went about a month or so ago, i could go back and check again if the information will help you, but one example is that the halo map pack was listed here at 12.99 and it rang up 29.99, they were pretty much all $19.99 and up , the xbox games i looked at

i didn't notice if they were ringing the barcode off the back or a kmart code exclusive tag on the games, and i also didnt notice any of the stickers on the games either

if you tell me what to look for i can go back and find out exactly what's going on it's right down the street and i want to go back and look anyway so let me know

Or better yet, a page in the WIKI!

Gasp... a user-edited page where anyone can make the necessary changes/updates. It would be awesome if CAG had a wiki for that kind of purpose... wouldn;t it?!?

Oh wait... there IS a Cag wiki!

Why not just make a thread (or update this one) to link to the wiki, then use the thread to discuss?

Psychonauts is a hard grab in my experience. I had my K-mart scan it and the game was out of the system. They offered to forward notice to corporate to re-add the item to their system. When it came back in the system a couple weeks later (good thing no one checked and bought it before me), it rang up for 24 cents. The one at my k-mart had an old $21 sticker on it. In between then and getting it for 24 cents I tried two other k-marts in different towns and psychonauts rang up for $21 and $15. So in my experience Psychonauts is one of the extremely ymmv prices

Yeah, it is funny, some that are more YMMV than others though they are all part of the same price drops so that seems strange. It scans $3 at every Kmart near me except for at the one which actually still has it, where it rings up $21. Yet that Kmart has all the other current drops done correctly (except that Polarium is still $29.99 for some bizarre reason). Wierd...

But see, THAT is what caused the old thread to balloon to such proportions was all that needless chatter that got dumped into ONE place. There already IS a Kmart trade thread, though it looks fairly unused most times I've checked it. What another poster suggested might work though, that being having ONE main thread with 2-3 subthreads for the other discussions about the Kmart deals. It would be located in one spot and people could choose which one to post in based on what they had to say.

I don't know, to me, it sounds ALOT better than clogging ONE thread and having to be told to remake the damned thing every couple months because of all the inane posting in it. I even thought about making the new Kmart thread, then I realized that I don't have any access to the drop info and/or what happened when I tried resurrecting another thread one time.

All I found was that people complained because I didn't properly credit the last person who did the thread, didn't post ALL the drops, etc, etc. I abandoned it soon after, since I didn't want to put up with the headaches associated with it. So now, IF I find something of worth noting for Kmart or penny guides or whatever, I usually post it, though I've been keeping a few deals to myself lately.

Personally though, it makes more sense to have the drops located in one thread, the trading chatter in another and general discussion over YMMV prices, etc in another. But, I guess we'll have to wait and see what happens.

But I guess the point is who cares if it ballooned? I mean, if anything it was people saying, "oooooh that's on clearance now? I'm going to get it!" Was the thread big? sure. Was there a lot of just talking in there? Sure. But that's no different than say the VC console thread. That was has almost 2000 posts in it. Do you think there all On topic? Hell no. There should be one thread only. It worked fine before and would continue to be fine.

But I think we can all agree that the way it is now is not very efficient.

Not very efficient?? It's the same as the old one, imo, except it's not constantly updated. People do have lives outside of the internet, you know. That's another reason I wouldn't start or update a thread on my own, I like my free time.

Someone should really ask someone with enough authority(ie Shrike or another mod) to either facilitate the Wiki idea someone had OR to make this thread more streamlined and able to be edited by any CAG with info on prices.

And thanks Irish for checking Geist and the like, since I didn't think they dropped as of yet. Here's to hoping they do though...

Hey guys,

If I'm going to have a chance at getting an Xbox Live 12 month card for $24 at Kmart, am I looking for something specific in the packaging?

Yes, efficient. All the info isn't in the OP like it was in the other thread. Therefore, not efficient. Substitute organized, logical, or systematic if you will. This type of thread lives and dies by the OP. At least the previous one worked with it.

shingingslade, just make a new thread. Now. Enough drama. It's clear the OP of this thread isn't qualified to handle the responsibility. Enough screwing around.
Hey guys,

at my kmart it was 24 bucks for a 3 month.

I would just like to point out that even though they have the 9.99 and 14.99 restickered games at most kmarts, are you sure these games aren't being brought in separatly from the clearance games? Are you sure that they are restickering the clearance games, has anyone actually seen an employee resticker games or seen the materials for restickering in a kmart?

The reason i pose this question is because it seems like, over here at least, that those games are arriving separatly from the normal clearance games. The kmarts here still have the same original selection of clearance games and there is no evidence that they are restickering them or anything like that, its just that I think some titles are overlapping between the games that are coming in the shipments of 9.99 and 14.99 games, but the original clearance games have remained on the shelves.

It would be pretty obvious if they were restickering stuff as you would likely see the original price tags bulging from underneath the new big red stickers that they put on the games. They don't bother to pull off the old stickers in most cases.

I think they are being brought in seperate and part of that display. I have not seen any reason to think they are actually taking old stock and restickering them.

Thats what I am saying, people are going around talking about kmart re-stickering games as if they are some evil corporation when its probably not true. If someone can prove that they are actually re-stickering the games then that is fine, but we shouldn't be talking about a retail store's practice being bad or deceptive unless it really is true.

I've seen the red, or yellow, sticker on the front say the clearance price then have it ring up $14.99. I think they are re-stickering them.

I'm pretty sure that most of the $9.99-$14.99 stickered games are new shipments. However, I do know of a few that have been re-stickered and now ring up at different prices. For example, World Championship Poker (PS2 - $2) has a newer sticker over the UPC and is now $9.99 at most stores.

Has anyone had luck with getting Super Robot Taisen OG for $10? I've scanned that game at probably 6 stores and it always rings up as $20 :whistle2:(

I've tried three and it has rung up at 19.99 at each one.

I bought 3 copies of Harvest Moon : More Friends, for 29 cents each. They still ring up as Tetris DX, but the clerks don't care. I'm going to give them out to friends. This has worked at 2 different KMs. Really weird.

I've never played the game, but it can't be that bad.

I posted this in the 360 thread for you already, but just in case: it is the "12-Month Premium Gold Pack" (NOT the Vision pack with the camera - that is newer). It is orange and is about 7" x 10", so it should stand out in the cases if they have it. I found 1 at the first Kmart I looked for it at, and thought I'd be able to find them everywhere. After that I went to 4 more Kmarts over the next week and didn't see another - so good luck... They were $36 recently and just dropped to $24. So don't be surprised if you find one and it is still $36. Still a good price though!

Pooky - I checked on one of the original Xbox card packs (not sure which) and it was still FULL PRICE.
does anyone know if the old Xbox(not the 360) 12 month Live subscriptions are clearanced? Ive seen a bunch of those around...thx
The Christiansburg, VA K-mart had 2 of them with clearance tags on them but the tag is for 42 dollars. Considering the pack-in game is PGR2 and it only comes with the old, original Xbox headset, it doesn't seem like such a hot deal.
Getting back to new ideas, I have one which I've been kicking around for a while. I ran it by a mod last evening to see if there were any obvious reasons for which this wouldn't work. I truly think this is viable and would be of benefit to a number of us.

Simply put, it would be helpful to have Wiki Pages added for store specific clearances. ie Kmart, TRU, CC, GameRush, GameCrazy and Sears and possibly Target.

Some stores have less of a need, but some Clearance threads get to be crazy long and its incumbent upon the OP to keep the Origial Post updated as new markdowns happen and/or new markdowns are discovered. When the OP is not able to keep up with this, cags have to wade through pages of posts searching for relevent markdown posts. Creating a Store Clearance Section in the Wiki would alleviate this problem, as any wiki editor could help out and update as new markdowns are reported. The basic requirement of creating a Clearance thread would be to add a notation as to current markdowns and a very visible link to the corresponding Wiki page.

Obviously some stores such as Target and Kmart have a YMMV issue to factor in, but this would be noted at the top of each page, just as it's noted repeatedly throughout the clearance threads. I know Target salvages their clearance items after a certain point, so that would be noted as well.

The benefit to this would be keeping all store clearance prices in one organized location, streamlining things a bit and letting some of the pressure off of OPs who wind up burdoned for months with keeping on top of updates.
*coughs*
What I propose is an easy solution to allowing those in the community who are interested in X-Topic monitor and be an active part of that specific issue.

Isn't that the basic reason we have the trade-in values in the wiki? A good number of people wish to know trade in values for any number of reasons, and a good number of people do trade-ins so they are able to supply that information to others in this community. How much easier it is to allow editors update that information than keep that itemized account ongoing in thread form only.

But I am not suggesting ending clearance threads; they keep the finds fresh and on peoples' minds. But having the prices mirrored in the wiki would keep things structured and any editor could update the list at any time.

It's also a way to keep clearance prices from past markdowns visable to those who might otherwise not have been here for those reductions. For a personal example I remembered from a CC clearance a few years back that LaPucelle Tactics had been drastically marked down. When I stumbled upon it at a CC in Alabama nine months later, I would have walked right past it seeing its sticker of 29.99. But knowing it had been clearanced, I picked it up and bought it for 1.96.
EDIT: Forgot to mention.
I was in my local K this morning and glanced a page from a drop list. No games on that first page, but I did see that a Satellite something or other which was $149 dropped to around $38.
