New XBOX Experience - General Discussion

I told my friend about the hard drive offer and he said when he went to fill it out somewhere in the fine print that he was required to get a netflix subscription. Anyone else notice this?

He isn't going to do it if he has to get Netflix and I don't want the guy to miss out on having live because I barely get to hang out with him as it is and if he doesn't have live it would suck even more.

You need a Netflix subscription if you want access to streaming movies, nothing more.

The asterisk at the bottom of the page: http://www.xboxstorageupgrade.com

Yep, of course you need a netflix subscription. They aren't going to give away access to non-members. It's just another method, besides the PC or the box they sell, to watch the streaming movie library.

It's $8.99 a month for 1 dvd out at a time, unlimited per month and unlimited instant watch access. A damn good deal and I'd never give up my netflix account. The deals for 2 or 3 out at a time are good as well if you have time to watch more movies. I used too, but down graded when I got busier.

I have had a Netflix trial for a couple of weeks. I'm not in live with the service, but the ability to watch the movies through my Xbox is what will keep me.

Ah, so it was just that. I didn't know if there were something further into the application that said you needed netflix too since my console isn't applicable.

Okay, so he's good to go and I get to call him an idiot... win/win situation.

It would be really cool if one person was watching a DVD and your friends could watch it with you on live. That would be awesome, like movie night. But none of my friends have netflix, and neither do I

That feature is called party movie viewing. It's planned and coming, but won't be available at launch.
The Netflix ability is what i'm looking forward to most.
Same here. I've got a good 20 some movies/tv seasons in my instant watch queue in anticipation. I don't much like watching on the PC/Laptop. Have only watched some when traveling.

doesn't all traffic. i feel sorry for comcast people with there 200gb cap if a SD definition movie runs about 700MB (low ball) imagine that X the increased size of HD by how many movies your going to stream , plus the other traffic...YEP
Just wondering if anyone has got there $20 20GB HDD's yet. Or a email that they've been shipped.
Got mine today. Has a little "refurbished in Mexico" sticker on the bottom, it made me chuckle. Other than that, you can't tell it's been refurbed, at least cosmetically.

I wasn't real happy with the packaging, it was just wrapped in one small piece of bubble wrap and stuffed in a box with a crumbled up piece of paper on top. I haven't hooked it up yet, but I hope the packaging was sufficient.

Let me see if my math is correct here.

200GB= 200,000 MB.

200,000/700MB per movie=285.xxx SD movies you could watch.

Bandwith caps suck, but for most people they're really not an issue. I'll watch at most 4 or 5 instant watch movies a month, and I seldom download anything as I mainly just use the Net for surfing and e-mail and x-box live. I do download the occasinal game demo, video or DLC, but only once or twice a month.

That's said, I have Comcast, but we don't have an official cap policy in place yet in my area.

I signed up. Can't wait for the Netflix feature. Game installs would be ok, but not very practical with a 20GB hard drive, and I won't upgrade as otherwise I don't need the space.

"We’re looking for a few thousand participants, so your chances of making it in are good"

I'm sure those of us that sign up tonight will get in if we qualify.

I'm going to sign up when I get home tonight. Remember the console ID is NOT the same as the serial number. You will have to turn the 360 on and go to system information to find the console ID.
Hasn't the Netflix feature been delayed till next year?
No. The ability to watch movies with your friends is delayed. As far as I know the ability to use netflix will be in at launch.

If you're too lazy to do that, you can just click here:

I remember seeing a console ID when they announced that DRM fix thing, so I just went there instead. =p
Nice, hope i get in, all i want is the stupid game installs.
Ditto on that. I *need* the game installs. My disc drive is not pleased with continuous usage, and I'm sick of disc read errors an hour or two into my session (not to mention having to listen to it whir, buzz, click and chug).

The new navigational features will be kind of nice, too. The old dashboard is not so great.

We'll get it a couple weeks early if we get selected. Although I guess I'll already be playing Fallout 3 on PC by then. Darn it. I want to play Fable II unmolested!
