NFL 2007 Season Thread

Derek Anderson left the game with some type of hand injury, hit the helmet of Michael Lewis.

Wow does Chris Weinke blow ball sack, where's Shaun Hill aka the Savior?

The gamecast says he's hurt.

And  Saints get picked, force a fumble, then recover it in about the same spot as the LOS just in time to kick a FG to end the half.
I am pissed about the outcome of the game but I don't understand how most Patriots fans can be so cocky. I've seen them play probably 8 or 9 times this season and any real fan knows they could have lost 2-3 games but had the breaks go their way every single time. Yes, I know great teams "find a way to win" and I'm not disputing that the Pats are great - I just won't be surprised at all if the Colts, Cowboys or someone else beats them in the playoffs. They are totally beatable.
Any team is beatable in that respect. This is the NFL. Any given Sunday, etc.

However, they are undoubtedly the best team in the league, and its not that close. The Colts aren't nearly the threat they were with Freeney, and aren't as good on the road. In fact, they've beaten every AFC playoff team except the Jags, and every serious threat except Green Bay.

The Pats offense can be stopped by a very good pass rush with a lot of speed, combined with very good coverage. Few teams have that combination. The Giants were pressuring Brady but still gave up 38 points.

I have hated New England since they beat Jacksonville in the AFC title game many many years ago, but I have to say that this is a great accomplishment and I'm glad they did it (I like Miami even less). With that said, I've been saying all year that they'll lose in the playoffs, and Jacksonville will be the team to knock them out.
It's called a band wagon. Happens with any team that starts winning.
You know I have to really disagree with this.

So much so that I truly believe that there are more douche bags who will at the very mention of a team that happens to be winning will go on a rant about how everyone is a band wagon fan.

I think the amount of "band wagon" fans is actually pretty low for any team that starts winning, compared to the amount of people who will call everyone a band wagon fan.

To some of you there seems to be a rule that states that you can only be a fan of losing/struggling teams. The very second that they start winning you should hate that team and move onto another struggling one....winning equal sell out.

Seriously...how many actually Pats fans are on this board? Me and like 2 others and yet people say the board is plague with Pat band wagoners.

Funny thing is....you guys talk about Pats band wagoners way more than I ever talk about the Pats.

See, this is where I disagree with you. It was close against Indy. It was close against the Giants. It was even close against some of the basement teams of the league (Balt, Philly, etc.) So tell me how it's not that close when multiple games this year show otherwise. Tell me what happens if Gilette gets pounded by bad weather on gameday.

They are the best team, but it is close. Indy, Dallas, Green Bay all have very legit shots. I also think that Jax and even SD and Pittsburgh could beat them given the chance. They're no lock to win the SB at all.

My hatred for the Lions almost prevents me from saying this. But damn Jon Kitna is a tough SOB.

Over 35 sacks this and last season and he has yet to miss a game. I am very surpised this guy head didnt get torn off.

I've been making that comparison all season. He seriously looks just like in when he's got his rain coat on.

I get your point and agree but the Eagles are 8-8 which is a far cry from the basement, Miami 1-15.

If the weather goes bad for the Pats games they are in trouble. I think a team with a very good running game like Diego or JAX will give them fits.

Before a Patriots fan become pissy and says it, I don't hate the Pats. Great teams deserve all the accolades. I just don't think that the Pats are some unbeatable force.

Yeah, you're right. That was a poor choice of words. Something like non-playoff teams would've been better.

There are no locks in the NFL.

Winning close games does nothing to disprove that they are the best team in the NFL by a wide margin.

Indy lost to the Chargers, only beat the Titans by 2, Houston by 6, KC by 3, Oakland by 7. The Jags lost to the Titans, and beat Atlanta by 6. Pittsburgh lost to Arizona, Denver, and the Jets, and only beat the Dolphins by 3. Dallas lost to Philly, and barely beat Buffalo and Detroit by one point each. Green Bay lost to Chicago twice.

So yes, having a few games that were close makes them better than the rest of the league by a wide margin. Don't give me that crap about barely beating teams or getting lucky, how lucky was Dallas to beat Buffalo and Detroit?

No, having several close games (especially the ones against the lesser teams of the league) shows that the Pats are not head and shoulders above the rest of the league like you argue.

The other examples you mentioned are irrelevant since the claim was that the Patriots were "undoubtedly the best team in the league, and its not that close." This has nothing to do with the games the Chargers, Cowboys, etc. played this year, since no one is arguing that they are in another class as you are with the Pats. I just used those as examples of teams that I think could knock off the Pats.

On another note, I'm appalled by all the missed tackles on Pittsburgh's part. I may need to scratch them off my Pats list  I suppose I'll reserve that right at this moment.

Not all bandwagon fans are bad. You have to start being a fan somewhere, and if people jumping on the bandwagon now turn into life long fans, isn't that a good thing?

And about "barely" beating teams. Who cares! This isn't like it is the NCAA FBS and your standing is determined by strength of schedule and quality wins. A win is a win is a win in the NFL.

And, for the record. I respect the Patriots. I like the Patriots. But I'm a Vikings fan first.

They're 16-0! They're the best team in the league. By far (We've got the tapes to prove it). Every AFC playoff team except Jacksonville had a shot at them and they all lost.

The Colts game was close, but several advantages they had will not be there in the AFC Championship. They won't have Dwight Freeney, and they won't be at home with their crowd noise machine. The Patriots coach to QB radio will probably work this time. And, there likely won't be any phantom PI calls on Moss that cost them 7 points.

If the Colts had Freeney, the gap would be closer. All they have to worry about on the pass rush is Mathis, and he hasn't played since week 14 after spraining both knees. The combination of those two guys gave the Pats fits, they can't handle faster, finesse DE's. One is definitely out, and the other might not be 100% if he plays at all.

Who else besides the Colts has been in their league? Pittsburgh has no chance. Jacksonville doesn't match up well. Dallas got destroyed already by the Pats.

The Patriots are the best team in the NFL but phantom calls on Moss? Are you kidding me? He's a great reciever but that cat pushes off on at least 80-85% of his TD catches. Last night he fully pushed off Madison (I think that was him) and caught his TD.

I'd love to say the Chargers have a shot, but it all depends on Rivers. The Colts you can't count out, if Bob Sanders is in they always have a shot. The Jaguars I can't buy into because their WR weapons can't do much, and the Steelers just aren't on the same level.

I'm interested to see if the Titants make the play-offs and how they would play. I have a gut feeling that VY wouldn't let his team lose.

Yeah I said the same thing about Harrington. I tell my friends every year they should just draft the fastest guy possible put him at QB so he can at least run for his life every snap. It would be at least somewhat entertaining.

The Packers? Then again..... I got a feeling that after Bret Farve getting a few sacks from Rodney Harrison that the Patriots will do what they have done all season thus far. Win. :applause:
They're 16-0!
I'm well aware that their record indicates they are perfect...but they're not. Nobody gave the Steelers a chance in their SB XL run. Anything can happen. I'll be watching.
And The Redskins are in!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes!

This has been a crazy year (on so many levels) for us, but we made it in.
Congrats Redskins. You guys earned it. :applause:

Maybe the offseason will see changes done to the Vikings for the better. So close..... yet so far.
I think if they get a solid veteran QB, they will be in the playoffs next year. Tavaris Jackson just looks lost out there at times.

Vikings can always get Brad Johnson back.

Kidding of course.

Definitely. Add a viable receiver as well and I think they win twelve games and the NFC North.

Moss is the best receiver thats still playing, imo he's better than TO and Harrison. He also does push the defenders off the most.

Also, I wouldn't call the Steelers off just yet. Don't forget, they went into the Pats, Colts, AND Broncos territory to went on and win the SuperBowl. I know they don't have Bill anymore but hey, anything can happen.

I wrote off the Steelers once they lost Parker, who I think is the 3rd best RB behind LT and Jackson.

The Vikings can be a playoff team, i'd give Jackson some time, he's young, maybe look into Chad Pennington as a back-up. No way McNabb is leaving the Eagles though.

With the Baltimore win today, the Patriots officially pick 7th. Thank you Steelers and 49ers for both raising the white flag.

By the way - is it wise for a team with a 1st round bye to rest pretty much everybody today? They will not have played for two weeks. I think the Giants had the right idea by going all out in a game with a playoff atmosphere. Keep everyone sharp and get into the playoff mentality. Rest the guys that legitimately need to heal, of course.

^^

That's what the Packers did :D
The Packers? Then again..... I got a feeling that after Bret Farve getting a few sacks from Rodney Harrison that the Patriots will do what they have done all season thus far. Win. :applause:
The Packers have a real good shot of beating the Pats (If the Pats make it that far ;) ) and basically everyone else if Brett doesn't lose his head and they DO NOT GET OFF TO A SLOW START. That has been my biggest beef with the Pack depsite all other things, they just have this tendency to be a bit conservative then start attacking in the 2nd quarter.

I seem to criticize my team a lot huh? :whistle2:k

Btw, Brett probably won't get sacked (but will take hits) since he is usually very aware of the pass rush and has that quick release. Besides, he can also rush for 21 yards when need be :p
They're 16-0! They're the best team in the league.
The Pats won the Super Bowl already?!?! Wow! Was a it a good game? I much have missed it! Damn!

And to be fair just because you don't know the names doesn't mean you aren't a fan. I'm terrible with names, so that doesn't prove anything.

So... Play-off predictions or a new thread?

Anyway, I'll go first?

Tampa over New York: 28-16
Washington over Seattle: 17-13

Jacksonville over Pittsburgh: 34-17
San Diego over Tennessee: 42-14

I have a feeling Tennessee is going to get "humbled" by the Chargers, as San Diego tends to blow teams out on their turf. Not so much on the road...

Must be nice being Seattle too, and getting to play six of your games against some of the best in the NFL.
Definitely. Add a viable receiver as well and I think they win twelve games and the NFC North.
I don't know, I would love that, but the Packers have only gotten better as the year has gone on. They have a better coach and are a very young team. A lot depends on Favre, but I don't think a QB and WR would be enough to clinch the division. It would be enough to make a playoff push though.

Yeah, the Lions lost....what a horrible second half of the season. They have to be the worst time in the NFL...the fact they lost to Green Bay's 2nd and 3rd stringers is horrible. Marenilli is a bum, Martz is losing his touch, the players just are not talented.

Now, Martz is basically gone so the Lions will rebuild/retool yet again....just horrible. Kitna is a bum also. I like how Marenilli said he would take a look at some of his players, yet plays the starters basically the whole game. What about Orlovsky...glad we evaluated him this year. I guarantee he will catch on somewhere and be good....as soon as the Lions let him go, that is how it generally works.

Damn you Lions! Fire Millen! Sell the team FORDS!

Wait, when did they cheat in the Steelers game?
Fixed, you missed an astericks there.

Well if thats the way they want to win...by being cheaters and all.
