NFL 2010-2011 Season Discussion Thread
Yeah even though he just drove them down he still needs to go. I have watched the guys whole career in the NFL and at best he is a backup.
It's gotta be really frustrating for 49ers fans watching him with what I'm guessing is some highs and extended periods of lows. He looked impressive the last two drives and the opening drive of the game, but he's made some key mistakes that you can't let happen as a QB. I admire how he's come back after the fumble/return for TD and the near benching though.

Alex Smith doing what Alex Smith does best. Nobody touching the '72 Dolphins this season but we have got 3 teams still chasing the '08 Lions. PARITY!

U guyz, i need a shoulder. Had an attrocious day.

had friends come over for the Chargers/raiders game. Friends are all raider fans. They rode my ass non stop (not literally) fter Raiders won. The said mean things.

Late night game comes around and Al;ex Smith just.....i dont know. Whatever signs he shows of being a decent startingQB he more than erases with some idiotic play decisions. It's like having a really hot girlfriend, but whos bipolar and says that she likes talking to new guys in chatrooms......and your best friends are there watching her do that in front of you.

Or something like that.

Plus friends remind me that niners play raiders next week....:puke:.. im afraid to step out of my house right now.

Fellow niner fans, what do we do?. This season is not good for the heart, its not.

raiders can call it a successful season after beating the chargers
cracked rib and all Lesean McCoy outplayed Frank Gore

best team in NFL is toss up between
Ravens
Jets
Steelers
Falcons

Jets/Vikings gonna be a shootout

I'm not sure the Falcons belong in that discussion yet, though I definitely think they're the class of that division.

To me the best teams are clearly the Ravens, Jets and Steelers.

Atlanta belongs in that next group with New England, Green Bay (though they haven't shown it yet) and whoever ends up being good out of the AFC South and NFC East.

Damn you, Dwayne Bowe. Matt Cassel finally does something right and you can't hold on to the ball.

The Chiefs defense played a pretty good game. If the offense can get their shit together (read Cassel/Bowe), the Chiefs should be okay with their easy schedule this year.

Regarding Alex Smith, the 49ers threw away this season when they didn't pick up another QB in the off-season. This guy has been given too many opportunities. The thing is... David Carr isn't the answer either.

If they're just collecting #1 overall busts, I've been made to understand that JaMarcus Russell is available. :D

Quiet, you. The more he substitutes purple drank for football, the better. For him. For everyone.

Very true. I wont fault him for the second interception yesterday, but the first int and the fumble were inexcusable. He was great in college, and it seems like the niners are waiting for that to return, but in the meantime, they're 0-5. Time to cut your losses and find someone new.

Admittedly, the Niners aren't as horrifyingly bad as the 0-5 record suggests. They've had 3 games where they lost by 3 points or less; one of said losses was against the the defending champion Saints. I would say they are this season's Kardiac Kids, except they've flatlined at key moments thus far.

Unless Jed York can fly into space, force the Earth to spin backwards to reverse time, and somehow turn the three Ls into Ws, they have a snowball's chance in hell to make a wildcard at this point, even in the NFC West.

3 games in a row decided by 3 points or less make the team look worse than it is. but good teams find ways to win those games. that said, the NFC west is bad enough that the 49ers could find a way to win the division, its just going to have to be an epic 12 week run. with the exception of the Packers coming up the 49ers remaining schedule isnt that bad.
Jets/Vikings gonna be a shootout
I will be surprised if either team scores 30 points tonight.

Man, Cleveland really is a town that has a quarterback curse.

First Wallace gets hurt, then Delhomme gets re-hurt. I really hope that they don't rush McCoy out. I think he's a good QB, but i don't think he is 100% ready to start, especially against Pittsburgh.

Man, Revis is a punk. Talk shit about Moss, get burned and "pull a hammy", talk more shit after the game about Moss, then the next time you play, you're too scared to guard him. What a bitch.

Oh, and this game blows.
My god, the Vikings are horrible. How can a team like that be so horrible?
Hey, everyone thought the Jets would smoke the Vikings. At least the Vikes are hanging in there.
Can Favre just please fucking retire?
Passing Leaders
Minnesota C/ATT YDS AVG TD INT RATING
Favre 14/34 264 7.8 3 1 85.9
NY Jets C/ATT YDS AVG TD INT RATING
Sanchez 21/44 191 4.3 0 0 59.9

Yes, he should retire immediately. 3 touchdowns and 264 passing yards, he should be ashamed of himself.

I'm not gonna sit and say the Vikings should have won that game BUT if you're a Jets fan, aside from Defense and Ladanian Tomlinsin, I wouldn't be too happy about that victory. If not for LT, they wouldn't have even been relevant in that game.
Deion fuckin Branch, the Patriots are back.

http://sports.espn.go.com/boston/nfl/news/story?id=5675331
I like the move from a depth perspective too, and I have fond memories of Branch in a Pats uni obviously, but let's not act like we're getting 2005 Branch here.

If they're truly going back to that old Patriots style of offense then obviously this move makes sense in that context. Whether that's the right overall philosophy or not will have to be decided on the field.

Classic end to another Bret Favre game last night.

As a Jets fan, I disagree. A win is a win. I liked their gameplan. They used their weapons and threw some deep balls to Holmes and Edwards but none connected. They ran the ball consistently. The 2nd half got a little interesting but all in all, against the Vikings defense, the Jets played good. They had 4 red zone fg's, and if they converted a few of those into td's, it would be a different score. Not a lot of penalties, no turnovers, Holmes aside from a few dropped passes played good, Cromartie was great, special teams were amazing, and the defense iced the game. I feel happy about the win.

Those stats are somewhat misleading though. Favre did play extremely well for a while. However, he missed horribly on 1 or 2 throws on the final drive and threw that INT to seal the game.

He's been doing this his whole career. So overrated!

I havnt seen Minnesota put a complete game together yet. And lets be honest here, Adrien Peterson hasnt really had a "Amazing" season that we know he could have, so far.

There next 3 games are as follow:

Dallas @ Minnesota
Minnesota @ Green Bay
Minnesota @ New England

And with Chicago and GB looking pretty good, they can be out of the wild card hunt pretty soon as well.

I think it's safe to say that the loser of that Dallas-Minnesota game can start planning for the draft, barring some miraculous comeback.

They should be able to beat Dallas, but will most likely lose to Green Bay and New England. Minnesota defense is just weak this weak IMO, and without a wicked offense they end up being like the Saints but without a good offense.

True, he made some key mistakes that cost them the game BUT he also made most of the key plays that kept them in the game.

My whole point in posting about the stats from the game was to point out that the announcers last night and commentators today are shitting all over Favre's performance and cheering on Sanchez but really the numbers say otherwise.

Its really indicative of Favre's entire career. When he's hot everyone's on board, when he's so-so he's the worst thing to ever happen to that particular team...

Both Cowboys and Vikings are 1-3. They face each other next week so one of them will go 1-4 unless they tie. That is just one win better than those pathetic bills, niners, and panthers

Looks like Colt McCoy may become the starter for the Pittsburgh game with Seneca and Delhomme probably not being able to play. They even picked up Brett Ratliff again to back him up, so this situation could get even worse quickly like the end of 2008 (I think) when Ken Dorsey was the starter for the last game or two since the season isn't over yet.

No bones about it, it's do or die for both teams.

That's a pretty rude welcome to the NFL if ever there was one.

I much rather see the cowboys loose that game. So much pre-season hype for that squad. Meltdown in jerry jones land would be glorious to watch.

Meltdown? But the media is making such a big deal that they have a good possibility of being the first team to play on their home field for the Super Bowl...

On a serious note, this game is going to be interesting to watch the build-up to because you have the Brett Favre who most football fans hate and the Dallas Cowboys who most football fans hate as well.

Is Max Hall really 6ft1? I swear he really does look like a rag doll out there. He has that baby face too so it makes him look even smaller.
Look at Favre already setting up the injury to make him miss a game. Dude just doesn't want to see the headline "Favre consecutive game streak broken because he sent dick pics."

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=5681621
With the NFL investigating whether he sent lewd photos of himself to a Jets game hostess while he played for New York in 2008, Favre said Wednesday that his cherished, league-record streak of 289 straight starts could be in danger if the pain in his right elbow gets any worse.

ESPN NFL analyst Jon Gruden says Vikings QB Brett Favre looks like he's not having any fun because he isn't. Favre's arm hurts and his team has a ton of injuries.

The 41-year-old quarterback did not practice with the Vikings on Wednesday, preferring to rest the tendinitis that flared up noticeably on Monday night in Minnesota's 29-20 loss to the Jets.
"I don't want to play just to play," Favre said. "It's kind of a funny injury. It could flare up and get worse."

Hahaha, sounds like Favre is saying "if the issue gets resolved by elbow will be fine, but if people keep hounding me about it my elbow will "flare up and get worse".
That's a pretty rude welcome to the NFL if ever there was one.
Especially a Steelers team fresh off of a bye with their starting QB returning and they probably want payback for the loss on MNF last year, so I'm sure Colt's looking forward to his first start.
