NFL 2010-2011 Season Discussion Thread
Especially a Steelers team fresh off of a bye with their starting QB returning and they probably want payback for the loss on MNF last year, so I'm sure Colt's looking forward to his first start.
They didn't play each other on Monday Night Football last year.
They didn't play each other on Monday Night Football last year.
Sorry, it was Thursday Night Football.

I really don't get why they traded Jerome Harrison for Mike Bell.

That's Mangini's mistake due to bad gameplanning for at least the first two games, where they barely ran against a Tampa D that was awful against the run last year and they weren't going to do anything for a prepared Kansas City D that he embarrassed last year. Hillis is now hurt, so he should've started against Atlanta and Pittsburgh. I don't like the way their first reaction to any situation is just to trade them.

"Desperation Bowl", ha!, I like that.

Welp, looks like i'll be taking a road trip north to San Fran for the Niner / Raider game this weekend. Co-Worker came up with 5 tickets.

I better take a bullet proof vest in case i get shanked if raiders win. Or loose for that matter.:twoguns:

Favre is going to fake an injury and take some games off so he can say the record was broken due to injury instead of a sex scandal? What has the world come to
With the NFL investigating whether he sent lewd photos of himself to a Jets game hostess while he played for New York in 2008, Favre said Wednesday that his cherished, league-record streak of 289 straight starts could be in danger if the pain in his right elbow gets any worse.

ESPN NFL analyst Jon Gruden
...well there's your problem
Harrison tore it up at the end of last year. I was surprised the browns fucked him over and didn't play him.
Harrison was too fumble prone.

I liked the guy, but the new guy Hillis is just as good.

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000...n-on-downfall-with-browns-it-was-mindboggling

Doesn't sound disgruntled at all, just disappointed that he wasn't given a chance to do anything. It seems like an off the cuff trade that they made for the hell of it because they have no idea what they're doing with their running backs.

Harrison wasn't fumble prone, as he's only fumbled four times in his five years in the league and just once this year. Hillis has fumbled three times this year and one of them cost them a win.

Predictions:

Chicago Bears over Seattle Seahawks
Green Bay Packers over Miami Dolphins
San Diego Chargers over St. Louis Rams
Baltimore Ravens over New England Patriots
New York Giants over Detroit Lions
Atlanta Falcons over Philadelphia Eagles
Pittsburgh Steelers over Cleveland Browns
New Orleans Saints over Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Houston Texans over Kansas City Chiefs
New York Jets over Denver Broncos
Oakland Raiders over San Francisco 49ers
Minnesota Vikings over Dallas Cowboys
Washington Redskins over Indianapolis Colts
Tennessee Titans over Jacksonville Jaguars

I went bold last week and got burned. Redskins over Colts is kind of bold... I did go with 5 underdogs. These were copied and pasted from my Yahoo Pick 'Em league.

I know its a longshot but i am rooting for the Browns this week for the win. It going to be hard for them to pull of the upset they are playing against a rapist and a women beater.

What a cheap shot by James Harrison with the helmet-to-helmet hit on Josh Cribbs.

Colt McCoy looks a lot more confident today than he did in the pre-season, though that probably isn't enough.

Edit: And now Harrison's taken out Massaquoi. What an asshole.

Yeah. I am pissed off big time. It's not like they are just hard hits, they are DIRTY hits.

My favorite part -

Announcer : "Flag on the play. This will no doubt be a penalty on Harrison. I wouldn't be surprised if he receives a letter in the mail from the commissioner on this one with a fine attached."

Ref : "Delay of Game, Cleveland. Kicking the ball."

Announcer : "Ummmm..."

Brandon Meriweather took two of the same kind of shots at Todd Heap. He missed on the first one, but unfortunately connected with the second.

Not that anyone outside Michigan gives a crap but Shaun Hill went down leaving the Lions with Drew Stanton.

Also, anyone see the hit on DeSean Jackson? Knocked his ass out cold. Although I like Jackson he reaks of the immaturity of a pure finesse player. Seeing him get rocked over the middle was a good feeling.

Just like when Reggie Bust bitch ass got rocked in that Eagles game a while back.

Yeah I saw that. He got fucked up. Did he have a concussion?

Watching the Eagles game, they haven't announced what injury Jackson has, just that it is a "head injury" and he won't be coming back.

Probably a concussion.

While Cleveland if most likely going to lose, I felt like this game was a success (aside from all the injuries).

They started a rookie QB against one of the greatest defenses in the league, and he didn't do bad at all. The interception wasn't really his fault, and while he still made a few nervous rookie mistakes, he showed great potential.

I think that Cleveland might legitimately have a future.

New England with a monumental comeback after looking dead for most of the game. Deion Branch went for 75 yards and a TD in the 4th quarter and OT alone. Both teams had 3 or 4 chances in OT before the Pats won it right under 2 minutes.

Probably the best game in the NFL this year between two amazing teams, hell of a game to watch.

Thanks, Fox. I had no interest in seeing how many points Dallas has, the game clock, what down it is, or what quarter it is. At least I know Minnesota has 7 points. They seriously need to rethink their formatting for widescreen programming. It's the same way with the NLCS.

Outstanding game, the Pats D finally stepped up and made some big stops. The Space Emperor had a HUGE punt in OT to give them a chance. Woodhead was great, and today was the first time Baltimore gave up more than 17 points in a game this year. Very encouraging win, the Ravens dominated them in the playoffs last year and it wasn't even close.

What do you do with Danny Woodhead? Give him the damn ball, thats what. Thank you Rex.

Deion Branch looked pretty good today. I don't think it was smart for the 'Hawks to trade him to New England because they need all the decent players they can get. I don't know if Branch can be a Moss replacement, but he'll do alright there.

Seattle is on a one to two year plan to find young guys who they can build around. That is why they got rid of Branch.

Can't believe the boys lost again. Can't wait to see Wade fired and Jerry better come out and apologize for being a cheap bastard in an uncapped year.
I think that Cleveland might legitimately have a future.
Please don't kid yourself.

I've posted on a sports forum over the last 10 years and every year it looks as if the Browns might actually have SOMETHING going for them ... then someone says something similiar to this.. and POOF, an injury happens to a good young player, and they're back to square one. It happens every single year, guaranteed.

Looking into the future, if McCoy becomes one of the best QBs in the league, hopefully they can get him a long-term contract. Imagine if he took his talents to South Beach...

That Pats game was so intense. Best game this year! Ravens had momentum, then the Pats had it, then it went back and forth. Just when you think each team had no chance someone came up with a big play and put the odds back in their favor. Finally a game where the OT rules didn't hand the game over to the team that won the call. Branch delivered big time. Woodhead is like the Wes Welker of running backs. Mesko's 65 yd punt in OT!

After the New England Patriots gained 24 yards on a first-and-25 play, outside linebacker Terrell Suggs and Patriots quarterback Tom Brady got into an animated verbal exchange as they walked down the field. It got so heated that the players banged their facemasks against each other.

Asked about the conversation, Suggs said, "He was trying to tell me how to bag a Hollywood actress. He was like, 'Sizzle, if you want to get a Hollywood actress, take my seminar on Saturday.'"

When informed that the chat didn't seem that friendly, Suggs replied, "You have to read his lips. We were going over the Dow, the economy and politics. He doesn’t really talk football that much.”

-----
While the smacking of the turf was something better fit for a kindergarten sandbox, Brady's exchange with Suggs was pretty impressive. He didn't do the normal quarterback move and back off as he jawed with a bigger, badder linebacker, he went up to his face and told him how it was.
Samson was right; there is power in long hair.

Don't get me wrong. I've been a Cleveland fan since I was old enough to watch football (before the comeback), and I all about that.

While I completely agree with you, I can't help but feel like this hope is actually legitimate.

The most recent example was Brady Quinn. While I still injected myself with hope, there was still this pessimism that I could not get rid of. I had the same feeling after the 10 -6 season.

But with this I feel nothing but optimism. Cleveland had just gotten spanked by my least favorite team in the NFL (Ok, second least. Baltimore is # -1), and I didn't care. I was just happy to see Cleveland almost look like a legitimate NFL team. Hell, even the announcers were impressed.

But we can only see. This optimism stuff is addicting.

The Browns right now are a huge step up over what they were in the past few years, mostly due to the dead weight of Jamal Lewis killing the entire offense. Crennel and Mangini refusing to not start him or at least install a two back system so he wasn't the only guy getting the ball meant that there was no running game to help the passing game out, so Derek Anderson and Brady Quinn had no chance of doing anything productive until Jamal got injured and retired. They had amazing bouts of not being able to score, mostly from Romeo Crennel's "Play It Safe" style that wouldn't take any risks to get a win. The offense picked up a lot in the second half of 2009 with Jerome Harrison as the starting HB.

Now they have some experienced QBs to lead the offense with at least one good halfback to give them a good running game and the defense is doing well (minus the awful cornerbacks).

Yeah. They really need to do something about Eric Wright especially. Take him out for a little while, trade him, put his practice into overdrive, I don't care. But something needs to change.

I'll never know why the opponents ever do anything other than 30+ yard throws. Every time you see the QB launch one, the only thing I can think is "Oh, dammit".

I actually heard one of the post game guys say Wright's their best cover corner after the Cincy game and that they should make him the #1 over Brown even though both have had a lot of trouble with long passes/big receivers. They should give Haden a shot since he's probably their best player at CB with his great play on punt return coverage.

The Browns are alright, but they don't have enough real talent. I think they have a decent team, but not a team that will get them to the playoffs (probably).

P.S. Is it just me or does New England have a somewhat easy next few weeks? Browns, Vikings, Steelers I think are their next three. They will beat Browns, Vikings and should lose to Steelers. I think New England will be 7-3 by week 10.

They play the Chargers next week in San Diego.

That is how I felt. I had to keep flipping to NFL Network to find out the actual score.

They'll beat them too, that's who I was forgetting. The Chargers couldn't even win last week, when they had such a scrub of a team going against them.

Sounds like it your Fox station that forgot to turn on the AFD so the standard def broadcast would go to letterbox mode for the game. So call and complain to your Fox affiliate.
Is this the long term effect of concussions they worry about?
Its what a lot of football players go through after their career is over, concussions or not. They're not able to adjust and they turn violent and irritable, particularly during football season when they're used to getting into that mindset.

What a little shit. "If I get fined on that, it's got to be a travesty."

Or how about "There's a big difference between being hurt and being injured. You get hurt, you shake it off and come back the next series or the next game. I try to hurt people."

And I'm not being biased just because I am a Cleveland fan. When TJ Ward laid the dirty hit during the Cinci game, I was all for fining him and even suspending him.

You can play rough and make some nice tackles. I understand that this is football and it is a physical sport and I have no problem seeing guys get leveled when a corner back running full speed gives them a nice clean hug, but when you go out there with the intent on hurting the other players, it's less about skill and more about just being an ass.

EDIT:
You left a good quote out.

"There's a big difference between being hurt and being injured. You get hurt, you shake it off and come back the next series or the next game. I try to hurt people."

If you play hard people are going to get hurt. Although these guys are going for the big hits I don't think they are trying to injure one another.
Sorry I didn't see that. I swear they edited the article, but I'm not perfect either. I'll add it!

Thanks!
