NFL 2010-2011 Season Discussion Thread

He's definitely a terrible coach, but it's hard to lay all the Cowboys' woes only on his shoulders though, their failures have been systemic. I doubt Garrett is going to right the ship.

I am going to miss Wade Phillips and his post-game press conferences. Hopefully the Giants will hang another 40+ points on them this week.

Hard to believe this is essentially the same team that won the NFC East last year. Canning Phillips is appeasing the lynch mob until the shit really hits the fan in Dallas at the end of the season.

Well hopefully Garrett inspires them long enough to sink the G-Men before the Cowboys fall back into the mess of crap they deserve to be. (I doubt he will but I can hope)

The Dallas situation really underscores how important coaching is. The rest of the league caught up to whatever the Cowboys were doing and Wade Phillips didn't do anything to stay one step ahead. Look at the Giants last year - they have essentially the same team this year - especially on defense - and they are playing great because of Fewell.

I can't decide which team I want to win tonight...

Being a Cleveland fan, I despise Pittsburgh. But because I live in the Cinci area, I've had the fans shoving their "great team" down my throat since I was old enough to understand football. I know all teams have cocky fans, but because I live in this area they are the ones I am most familiar with.

Hmmm...

Interesting but not surprising that they fired Wade. Interesting because I believe Dallas said they wouldn't fire Wade mid season, but obviously they are just so embarassed that they felt he need to do so now at this point. I have no problem with it, the team got them to where they were at their peak in the last couple years, not Wade. He basically just sat around and let his talent filled team play great football, now that they aren't the fans see Wade was never really doing anything in the first place.
The key for the Jets, I think, is to start off good defensively. They can then be the offense they're better as, which is running the ball. The last 2 games, the offense played poorly because they gave up points in the first drive or two, forcing the offense to be more pass-oriented than they would like. And don't think that Hillis will be able to wear them down. The best part of the Jets is the run D.
Passing would be a better strategy since the Browns' pass defense stinks even if they can confuse the QB, as Brees still ripped them for over 300+ yards despite four interceptions. Their run D doesn't give up points, as they've allowed the least run TDs in the league. I could see this being a low scoring game due to both teams having a good defense and unreliable offenses.

Is the Browns' pass D worse than the Lions' pass D? Because they confused Sanchez for 55 minutes on Sunday. Although Sanchez does have a habit of looking confused on the field lol. But, to be fair to him, I don't think Brian Schottenheimer (Off. Coord.) has a clue on the field sometimes. Get this, I read in a Jets blog that he scripts his plays for the whole game before the game even starts.
Anyone else almost feel bad for TO? He is a beast wherever he plays and his crappy teams can't win.
No. If his attitude didn't force a quick exit from almost every place he went he might have been able to stick on some good teams for longer.

Crazy finish to MNF which actually cost me first place in my fantasy league. I was 7-1 going against the other 7-1 team in my league. I had no one last night and he had Steelers D and Mike Nugent, he was up 2 at the very end and had the Bengals scored that last TD I would have won. Oh well.

Probably. They've been torched by anybody with good receivers (Cincy, Baltimore, Pittsburgh, New Orleans) and New England's issues probably stem from the fact that they got rid of their big receiver that could've exploited that weakness. The Jets have good receivers, so it's up to Sanchez to get the ball to them if they want a great chance at a win. If the Browns can put constantly put pressure on Sanchez and force bad throws, they have a shot at another upset.

Edit: TO has great talent that's marred by a bad attitude that forces him out of good situations (Dallas, Philly) and into bad situations (Cincy, Buffalo) because nobody else wants to deal with his BS.

The Browns' pass defense isn't great, but their run defense is decent. Not like the Lions have great run offense anyway, but with Stafford out (again) I wonder how badly it will affect their passing game. Of course, the backup has played before and he doesn't look too bad.

I think it'll take a season ending injury to Peyton Manning to get them to change their mind about 18 game seasons. I think they should give the 16 game over 18 weeks aka two bye weeks another try.

I agree. Although I could get behind an 18 game season with 3 byes but that makes the season a month longer than it already is. If they go to 18 they should at least add one more bye week. I don't care about extending the Super Bowl to late February - there's nothing going on then anyway and you'd still get a 4 month off-season for the Super Bowl teams.

Plus extending into later February takes us closer to March Madness. That's a great transition.
Rams will win NFC west with a losing 7-9 record.
Well luckily the 49ers still have 5 division games left, I'd say with there recent resurgence, they have the best chance.

The onyl challenge in the scheduel for them the next 8 games is San Diego, and they are all but stable at the momment.

The Thursday night games on the NFL network start tonight.

Stupid NFL and your overpriced television packages...

I hope the Ravens get stomped tonight. I know no team is great this year, but I find them overrated. Plus, the Ray Lewis Old Spice commercials are obviously inferior to the other ones.

Not only that, but the NFL Network presentation is awful...

It felt like a preseason game from the few minutes I bothered to watch during the ad breaks for the Celtics/Heat game.

What a fantastic final minute. As long as Baltimore doesn't come back in the last 20 seconds, this one is going to end favorably (in my opinion, that is).

There's no need to extend the end of the season for any additional weeks, as they can just remove a pre-season week or two to get to whatever number of weeks they need since nobody likes the length of the pre-season.

Yeah, I'd rather have the teams play more games in good weather than in shitty February winter weather.

Tampa Bay
@Arizona
@Green Bay
@St. Louis

That just leaves St. Louis, Seattle and Arizona at home on the easier side but since the 49ers suck, non of these games are a gimme.
------
As for the NFL network if you have comcast digital cable you can add the sports entertainment package for $5 a month for it. And simply cancel the package when the thursday games are done.

I don't find Arizona or St. Louis to be a challenge for anyone really.

The Rams are doing very well for a team that had the #1 pick this year and are starting a rookie QB with no names for receivers. They have a good core of young players with Bradford, Laurinaitis, and Long.
I don't find Arizona or St. Louis to be a challenge for anyone really.
Those teams can say the exact same thing about the 49ers. Any road game is going to be though for nfc west teams. Right now they are a combined 2-14 on away games with one of those wins within the division.

Watched the CBS pre-game show and I don't get why they're so high on the Chargers. They only talk about how well Phillip Rivers is playing, but the last several years has shown that he can't win by himself. Getting to 11-5 from 4-5 is an insane prediction.

Similar opening drives for both teams as the Jets and Browns marched down the field to the redzone and couldn't seal the deal. 22 straight games without allowing a TD in the opening drive for Cleveland, but 10 games without scoring on the opening drive themselves.

And Cleveland gets the first TD to go up 10-3 as Colt McCoy can endure shots without blinking while Mark Sanchez freaks out at the first sign of pressure. Hillis made up for the fumble big time.

He freaked out into the endzone.

Yeah, think I'll start watching the Browns game til' the 49ers get on.

Unless Detroit can get a touchdown and 2PC, I love watching two bad teams play.
